Amanda Prowse and Penny Dommett nattering around the kitchen table, chatting about all things random. Are we sitting comfortably... here we go! Penny admits she's stopped saying the word SUBSCRIBE because she can now say it! We talk about Penny's wonderful wreath workshop - Mandy is panicking because she is artistically challenged! Real versus fake Christmas trees - what do we think? Which is actually the most sustainable? And are our trees up yet? We talk cut flowers and bulbs and how to decorate sustainably. Penny laughs at my beautiful crochet blanket which my beloved nanny made, until she knows the history of my favourite blanket. We talk home grown herbs and the lovely value of plucking something to use in your cooking! We take a deep dive into the collective experience of women who make things together - the beautiful world of women crafting together - it's ace! Mandy's collects embroidered art and is very proud of it. We debate using salt in cooking - it's all about balance! How are we already in December - where has this year gone? We end on bus travel and we laugh a lot, welcome aboard. Penny gives Ocado a big old plug and we discover that Penny has never eaten a Monster Munch - how? But she does rather like a farm shop - who knew. And don't forget - January 11th - save the DATE!!! XSo, if you fancy it, pull up a chair and join us for a delightfully irreverent chit chat about life and all its random tangents - bring a cuppa. Cake optional...
VYS0044 | For Fear of Little Men - Vayse to Face with Jo Hickey-Hall - Show notes They've talked of night-time scaries, they've talked of shadow men, but they daren't talk of fairies, for fear of meeting them... Bravely, valiantly, courageously, boldly confronting a topic that they have avoided delving into for the past two years, Hine and Buckley take a trip into the terrifying world of fairies with their guide, researcher podcaster and author, Jo Hickey-Hall, creator and host of the hugely successful Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast. Jo talks beautifully on the subject and the conversation flits magically around the topic on gossamer wings and a cloud of enchanted dust: what exactly are fairies? Where did the common "Tinkerbell" trope come from? Do fairy sightings herald a transitional period in the life of the observer? Are some humans part fae? Can anyone see fairies? Just how frightened should we be of the fae?... and what do Pukwudgies, puppets, pork-pie hats and the Monster Munch monsters have in common? As the weather, once again, gets colder and the days become shorter, Paul and Eli are feeling a bit gloomy. It's even worse for Silverman, as a long-standing issue with his teeth rears its ugly head and Gannon takes full advantage of his vulnerability. Don't worry though, they're both given a bit of a perk when they take on the tastes and textures of some cheap eats. There are new Doritos to try, knock off Monster Munch to investigate and something a little more… unusual! Things take a sour turn again when the Paul's Parlour Pass Times segment reveals a card game that is only going to bring out the very worst in them. “The Dilemma Game” asks Eli and Paul to solve some moral quandaries and it quickly becomes apparent that it's going to get very ugly and hit a bit too close to home for one of them! Long time no see! Today's episode is about the Atari and Children's Computer Workshop collaboration, Cookie Monster Munch. I loved Cookie Monster when I was a kid (I still do), and I also love cookies, but most cookies actually stay in my mouth, unlike some other monsters I could name. I hope that you enjoy the episode and that it was worth waiting for. Next up will be the very rare Master Builder by Spectravideo. Apparently my episodes covering Spectravideo games are also pretty rare. If you have feedback for Master Builder that does not include its history or how to play it, please send it along to 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by October 31st. On November 4th and 5th, I will once again be participating in Extra Life, to benefit the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Hopefully I will have my streaming ability together by then. Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.Joining Tim this time is actor and comedian Toby Hadoke, who's peering over fences when the bad guys aren't looking for a look back at The Red Hand Gang, Einstein A Go-Go by Landscape, the BBC's After The Bomb season, Children's BBC's adaptation of The Machine Gunners, quirky mid-eighties drama series Annika, Winter Flight, Strike It Rich! and Driving Ambition, Can't Help Falling In Love by Lick The Tins and Golden Wonder Odduns. Along the way we'll be debating the definition of 'Mutant' Monster Munch, finding out what happened if The Corrs stayed out after they were supposed to on a school night, revealing how to thwart a vampire armed with just a duvet, placing bets on who would steal whose lunch money out of Albert Einstein and Booga Benson, and exposing the secret enmity between Margaret Thatcher and TV's Sentreal from Doctor Who.You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/.If you enjoy Looks Unfamiliar, you can help to support the show by buying us a coffee here. No I will not try drinking it out of one of those geometrically ridiculous Odduns mugs.
For the next few weeks we're serving something slightly different as we present our Table Manners live on tour episodes. Sophie chatted Monster Munch, Nanny Claire's chocolate cake, what it's like to cook for a family of 7 and how her kitchen mantra is “this is not a café!” A brilliant guest and a true sport, Sophie's also tells us all about her new cook book, ‘Love Food Family: recipes From the Kitchen Disco'. For this episode, Yasmin and Alison talk to the brilliant, funny and down-to-earth Scottish actor Ashley Jensen, known for her roles in Extras, Ugly Betty, Catastrophe – and star of the Waitrose 2021 Christmas ad! She chats about Heston's mince pies and her taste for sprouts (with pancetta), and shares tales of growing up in Scotland in the 1970s, enjoying her grandmother's mince and tatties and a range of classic crisps including Frazzles and Monster Munch. She describes her no-nonsense response to Hollywood glitz and glamour (and her rejection of the idea that actresses must ‘stay young') and also expresses her admiration for footballer and campaigner Marcus Rashford and his work tackling child food poverty. To watch Ashley in the Christmas advert, go to waitrose.com/Christmas.To find out more about the show, go to waitrose.com/podcast.Host: Yasmin KhanCo-host: Alison OakerveeProducers: Sera BerksoyExecutive Producer: Nikki DuffyEditor: Nathan CopelinA John Brown production for Waitrose & Partners See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

And what a season it’s going to be!As a close family friend, Stephen and I have known each other for a while, but I had never sat down with him to really delve into his life story and how he came to be a jewellery designer to the stars. From his humble beginnings in Kent, to art school and apprenticeships, his time living in Canada was a very touching story and tribute to the effects of depression and it’s link to eating disorders – in men.More recently, his venture into restaurants as well as living with a very foodie wife, Stephen speaks eloquently about the food he loves and the places he eats in.We bond over our absolute love for a packet of Monster Munch, the best crisp in the world, which is why I have such respect for him!!I was also given an education into his jewellery world, how he creates his eye catching pieces, and how he created his synonymous range, Crystal Haze. This episode is sponsored by Squirrel Sisters – who are on a mission to help you treat your health. The football keeps on coming and Rebecca & Alex are back to chat about loads of Premier League and Champions League action, after both Liverpool and Chelsea booked their spots in the last 16. After a couple of nervy moments, Liverpool sent Salzburg to the Europa League, after Mo Salah scored an absolute worldie. We chat about some classic Mo, Naby Keita's fantastic week, Van Dijk raising the bar, as well as that nice, comfortable win over Bournemouth. Chelsea had a more mixed week with the big win over Lille preceded by a loss to an Everton side with Duncan Ferguson at the helm. Do Chelsea struggle without Tomori, why could the Everton players suddenly put in effort for this game, why did Calvert-Lewin turn into peak Falcao, and just how tight are those Big Dunc hugs? We also dig into the Manchester Derby - where it went so right for Man Utd and why it went so wrong for Man City. Why can Ole do it against the top six but not other teams, why are Fred and McTominay such a good partnership all of a sudden, why does Pep Guardiola think his team can't compete with the best this season, and Is Aaron Wan-Bissaka the greatest right back to ever live? We also delve into Napoli sacking Carlo Ancelotti, Son Heung-min's Goal of the Season contender, VAR actually doing a good job, pundits speaking out on issues that matter, and who Liverpool and Chelsea could come up against next in Europe. Plus, Christmas budgets, Monster Munch analogies, blue pills, "tri-brid", who combines all the sauces, willies out, and Star Wars/Harry Potter crossovers. *Please take the time to rate and review us on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts, as it makes it easier for other potential listeners to find us. Along the way we’ll also be finding out why professional wrestlers should never attempt topical satire, what caused ZX Spectrum owners to live in fear of Ian Durell, and how Piers Morgan caused the decline of the maize-based snack industry. Along the way we wonder why Winston is in this film, we debate whether Stay Puft was a real American brand of marshmallow, we quote the film Anti-Trust, we talk about my love of Monster Munch and the origin behind 'crossing the streams'. We also compare Ray and Venkman to Jez and Mark in Peep Show and talk Congo, Drag Me to Hell, Ernest Scared Stupid and adverts from the 80's (remember Mr Soft?).
Our guest this time round is Guardian columnist Suzanne, who tells us all about how to be a good mother, what makes a feminist, and the best way to raise teenagers without going bonkers. This episode was recorded in a yurt at Camp Bestival, just after Suzanne delivered a talk on feminism - so there's lots of chat about why we still need it, and some advice on dealing with sexists. Plus we discuss Kate Moss, mum friends, shoes, what it's like to have children in three different decades, and why Suzanne would always pick a packet of Monster Munch over pureed carrots.
