Amanda Prowse and Penny Dommett nattering around the kitchen table, chatting about all things random. Are we sitting comfortably... here we go! Penny admits she's stopped saying the word SUBSCRIBE because she can now say it! We talk about Penny's wonderful wreath workshop - Mandy is panicking because she is artistically challenged! Real versus fake Christmas trees - what do we think? Which is actually the most sustainable? And are our trees up yet? We talk cut flowers and bulbs and how to decorate sustainably. Penny laughs at my beautiful crochet blanket which my beloved nanny made, until she knows the history of my favourite blanket. We talk home grown herbs and the lovely value of plucking something to use in your cooking! We take a deep dive into the collective experience of women who make things together - the beautiful world of women crafting together - it's ace! Mandy's collects embroidered art and is very proud of it. We debate using salt in cooking - it's all about balance! How are we already in December - where has this year gone? We end on bus travel and we laugh a lot, welcome aboard. Penny gives Ocado a big old plug and we discover that Penny has never eaten a Monster Munch - how? But she does rather like a farm shop - who knew. And don't forget - January 11th - save the DATE!!! XSo, if you fancy it, pull up a chair and join us for a delightfully irreverent chit chat about life and all its random tangents - bring a cuppa. Cake optional...
VYS0044 | For Fear of Little Men - Vayse to Face with Jo Hickey-Hall - Show notes They've talked of night-time scaries, they've talked of shadow men, but they daren't talk of fairies, for fear of meeting them... Bravely, valiantly, courageously, boldly confronting a topic that they have avoided delving into for the past two years, Hine and Buckley take a trip into the terrifying world of fairies with their guide, researcher podcaster and author, Jo Hickey-Hall, creator and host of the hugely successful Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast. Jo talks beautifully on the subject and the conversation flits magically around the topic on gossamer wings and a cloud of enchanted dust: what exactly are fairies? Where did the common "Tinkerbell" trope come from? Do fairy sightings herald a transitional period in the life of the observer? Are some humans part fae? Can anyone see fairies? Just how frightened should we be of the fae?... and what do Pukwudgies, puppets, pork-pie hats and the Monster Munch monsters have in common? As the weather, once again, gets colder and the days become shorter, Paul and Eli are feeling a bit gloomy. It's even worse for Silverman, as a long-standing issue with his teeth rears its ugly head and Gannon takes full advantage of his vulnerability. Don't worry though, they're both given a bit of a perk when they take on the tastes and textures of some cheap eats. There are new Doritos to try, knock off Monster Munch to investigate and something a little more… unusual! Things take a sour turn again when the Paul's Parlour Pass Times segment reveals a card game that is only going to bring out the very worst in them. “The Dilemma Game” asks Eli and Paul to solve some moral quandaries and it quickly becomes apparent that it's going to get very ugly and hit a bit too close to home for one of them! Long time no see! Today's episode is about the Atari and Children's Computer Workshop collaboration, Cookie Monster Munch. I loved Cookie Monster when I was a kid (I still do), and I also love cookies, but most cookies actually stay in my mouth, unlike some other monsters I could name. I hope that you enjoy the episode and that it was worth waiting for. Next up will be the very rare Master Builder by Spectravideo. Apparently my episodes covering Spectravideo games are also pretty rare. If you have feedback for Master Builder that does not include its history or how to play it, please send it along to 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by October 31st. Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.Joining Tim this time is actor and comedian Toby Hadoke, who's peering over fences when the bad guys aren't looking for a look back at The Red Hand Gang, Einstein A Go-Go by Landscape, the BBC's After The Bomb season, Children's BBC's adaptation of The Machine Gunners, quirky mid-eighties drama series Annika, Winter Flight, Strike It Rich! and Driving Ambition, Can't Help Falling In Love by Lick The Tins and Golden Wonder Odduns. Along the way we'll be debating the definition of 'Mutant' Monster Munch, finding out what happened if The Corrs stayed out after they were supposed to on a school night, revealing how to thwart a vampire armed with just a duvet, placing bets on who would steal whose lunch money out of Albert Einstein and Booga Benson, and exposing the secret enmity between Margaret Thatcher and TV's Sentreal from Doctor Who.You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/.If you enjoy Looks Unfamiliar, you can help to support the show by buying us a coffee here.
