Holiday Wreaths HON Graves of Service Members Thousands of U.S. military service members buried in Marietta National Cemetery were honored with holiday wreaths during the Wreaths Across America event, Remember, Honor, Teach. Sixty sponsor groups collaborated to fund wreaths for the over 17,000 graves, with about 14,500 wreaths successfully placed. Donna Rowe, president of the Cobb Veterans Memorial Foundation, expressed hope to cover all graves next year, noting that all graves were covered last year. Despite some disappointment, Rowe described the event as incredibly emotional and powerful. Representatives from every branch of the armed forces participated, placing wreaths on service members’ graves corresponding to their branch. Attendees also came together to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, adding to the solemn and heartfelt atmosphere. Rowe commented on the significant personal stories shared by attendees, highlighting the deep impact and purpose of the event in honoring fallen heroes. STORY 2: Lawrenceville resident spreads hope and healing with Bracelet Project Lawrenceville resident Paige Brady, 17, started making bracelets as a coping mechanism for mental health struggles, which evolved into the Bracelet Project, sending thousands of bracelets globally. After a school shooting at Apalachee High School, she organized the creation of 4,000 bracelets for the community, receiving emotional gratitude from staff and students. Brady's efforts earned her a commendation from Governor Brian Kemp. As she plans to attend BYU-Idaho and go on a church mission, she aims to continue the project, working towards making it a nonprofit and organizing a Christmas initiative to spread joy in local communities.   STORY 3: Nicole Love Hendrickson To Deliver Commencement Address At Georgia Gwinnett College Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson will deliver the keynote address at Georgia Gwinnett College's winter commencement on December 14, marking the opening of the new Convocation Center. Re-elected in November, Hendrickson is the first African American chairwoman of Gwinnett County, overseeing a $2.5 billion budget. She has prioritized transportation, housing affordability, and economic security, and has been instrumental in initiatives like the Gwinnett Entrepreneur Center and Police Mental Health Collaboration. The City of Durango has partnered with Table to Farm Compost to offer free curbside pick-up of leaves through Nov. 29th. The 21st Annual Festivals of Trees and Wreaths is on the lookout for sponsors for the holiday event. This year, the festival will benefit both Community Connections and the new non-profit Our Own Lives, which was previously the direct services part of Community Connections before the reorganization earlier this year.
