The 2024 Emirates NBA Cup wrapped up on Tuesday night in Las Vegas and there were interesting takeaways both on and off the court. Kevin O'Connor is joined by Yahoo Sports contributor Tom Haberstroh (of The Big Number) to react to the Milwaukee Bucks win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, what it means for both teams involved and a post-game story that should not go overlooked. On the hardwood, the Bucks notched an easy 97-81 win over OKC, and Giannis Antetokounmpo looked unstoppable, while the Thunder could not get their offense going at all. The guys discuss how OKC may be a bit too defense-heavy in their roster construction and why a trade for elite three-point shooting must be considered this winter. In the locker room after the game, it was a different story. The Bucks left the league's provided champagne and beer celebration untouched; Kevin & Tom explain why Milwaukee's lack of enthusiasm for winning the Cup is a bad look for the league. Also a bad look for the league — TV ratings are down. The guys discuss growing concern around the NBA of the league's declining TV audience in the face of record in-game attendance and social media reach, throw out a few rule changes that could improve fan interest in the sport & discuss the new 2025 All-Star Game format.(0:00) - New York soundly defeats Minnesota in KAT's return(9:00) - Milwaukee defeats OKC in NBA Cup Final(26:15) - Bucks don't celebrate NBA Cup win: bad look?(31:15) - Declining NBA TV ratings(50:45) - 2025 All-Star Game changes: good or bad?

Stephen Curry added 20 points 12 assists and four rebounds as Splash Brother Thompson shined to help Golden State make 21 more 3-pointers — giving the Warriors an NBA record for most in the first two games of a playoff series at 42. James’ Cavaliers hit 40 against Atlanta in the 2016 second round. Tonight Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers, 7:30 p.m.                        (Series tied 1-1) Denver Nuggets at Phoenix Suns, 10:00 p.m.                            (DEN leads 2-0) NBA – Bucks fire Budenholzer as coach after early playoff exit The Milwaukee Bucks have fired coach Mike Budenholzer just over a week after their stunning first-round playoff loss to the Miami Heat spoiled a season in which they owned the NBA’s best record. The move also comes three weeks after the NBA finalized Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam’s purchase of a 25% stake in the team. NBA – Pistons, ex-exec Murphy named in sex harassment lawsuit A female former employee of the Detroit Pistons has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the team and its now-fired assistant general manager. The Pistons announced Thursday that Rob Murphy “no longer works for the Detroit Pistons or Motor City Cruise, in any capacity.” The team says Murphy was terminated for violating company policy and the terms of his employment agreement. Horse Racing – Churchill Downs suspends trainer Joseph after 2 horse deaths Churchill Downs has suspended trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. indefinitely and Lord Miles, who is trained by Joseph, has been scratched from the Kentucky Derby days after the sudden death of two of his horses at the track. The suspension prohibits Joseph, or any trainer directly or indirectly employed by him, from entering horses in races or applying for stalls at all Churchill Downs Inc.-owned tracks. The decision comes after the deaths of Parents Pride on Saturday and Chasing Artie on Tuesday. Both collapsed on the track and died after races. NFL – New York, California probing workplace discrimination at NFL The attorneys general of New York and California are investigating allegations of workplace discrimination at the NFL. Letitia James of New York and Rob Bonta of California said Thursday that they have issued subpoenas to NFL executives as part of an examination into the workplace culture at the league’s corporate offices in both states. The officials are both Democrats. They say they are exercising their legal authority to seek information from the NFL regarding allegations of gender pay disparities, harassment, and gender and racial discrimination. The league is calling the allegations “entirely inconsistent with the NFL’s values and practices.” NFL – Bears sign 4 of their 10 draft picks to 4-year contracts The Chicago Bears have signed four of their 10 draft picks to four-year contracts. The Bears agreed to deals with Minnesota cornerback Terell Smith, Oregon linebacker Noah Sewell, Kennesaw State defensive tackle Travis Bell and Stanford safety Kendall Williamson. Smith and Sewell were selected in the fifth round. Bell and Williamson were seventh-rounders. Sewell is the brother of Detroit Lions tackle Penei Sewell. The Bears also agreed to deals with 14 undrafted free agents. That includes record-setting Division II Shepherd quarterback Tyson Bagent. MLB – Major League Baseball Yesterday Detroit Tigers 2, New York Mets 0 Washington Nationals 4, Chicago Cubs 3 Minnesota Twins 7, Chicago White Sox 3 – 12 Innings Tigers 2, Mets 0 – Justin Verlander gives up 2 HRs in Tigers’ 2-0 win over Mets Justin Verlander gave up back-to-back home runs in his New York Mets debut and Eduardo Rodriguez threw eight scoreless innings and the Detroit Tigers completed a three-game sweep with a 2-0 win. Riley Greene and Javier Baez hit solo homers off Verlander in the first inning and that was enough offense for Detroit. Rodriguez gave up just two hits and one walk while striking out nine. Alex Lange pitched the ninth for his fifth save. Verlander settled in after his rough start, showing signs of the form that made him one of the game’s all-time greats. Nationals 4, Cubs 3 – Call’s walk-off homer gives Nationals 4-3 win over Cubs Alex Call hit a game-ending homer leading off the ninth inning, and the Washington Nationals recovered after blowing a 3-0 lead to beat Chicago 4-3 and take three of four from the skidding Cubs. Call lofted the only pitch from Brad Boxberger just inside the left-field foul pole and was greeted at the plate by exuberant teammates, who dumped a bucket of blue Gatorade on his head. Washington led 3-0 after seven near-flawless innings by starter Patrick Corbin, but the Cubs tied it in the 8th against Hunter Harvey. Kyle Finnegan pitched out of a jam in the 9th for the win. Twins 7, White Sox 3 – F/12 – Correa, Buxton lift Twins over White Sox in 12 innings Carlos Correa drove in a run during Minnesota’s five-run 12th inning, and he and Byron Buxton homered to lift the Twins over the Chicago White Sox 7-3 Thursday and avoid a three-game sweep. The AL Central-leading Twins had lost three of four. Correa spurred Minnesota to victory hours after downplaying remarks from Chicago reliever Keynan Middleton, who called Correa “a cheater.” Eloy Jiménez homered for the White Sox, who ended a three-game winning streak. MLB – Major League Baseball Yesterday Detroit Tigers 3, New York Yankees 0 Cleveland Guardians 3, Chicago White Sox 0 Pittsburgh Pirates 4, Chicago Cubs 3 Tigers 3, Yankees 0 – Cabrera intentionally walked with 2,999 hits as Tigers beat Yankees 3-0 New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone went from Scrooge to Santa Claus in the eyes of Tigers fans on Thursday in Detroit.  Boone elected to intentionally walk Miguel Cabrera in the eighth inning, denying the Tigers designated hitter of a chance for his 3,000th career hit. The decision came with two runners on, two out and the Tigers clinging to a 1-0 lead. One batter later, Austin Meadows blooped a two-run double to put Detroit ahead by three in a 3-0 shutout of New York. Former Yankee Michael Pineda picked up his first win as a Tiger, yielding three hits over five innings. Robbie Grossman doubled home Detroit’s first run off hard-luck loser David Mongomery, who allowed just two other hits while becoming the first Yankee to throw six innings this year. Guardians 3, White Sox 0 – Naylor, Plesac lead Guardians to sweep of White Sox 6-3 Josh Naylor had two hits and two RBIs, continuing his comeback from a devastating leg injury and helping the Cleveland Guardians complete a series sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 6-3 victory. Cleveland took both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday against Chicago, which has lost four straight. Naylor hit an RBI single in the fifth and a run-scoring double in the seventh. He was activated Friday after suffering multiple fractures in his right leg during an outfield collision last June. Pirates 4, Cubs 3 – Vogelbach’s HR rallies Pirates past Cubs 4-3 Daniel Vogelbach hit a two-run homer, Yoshi Tsutsugo had a two-run double and the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied past the Chicago Cubs 4-3. The Pirates rebounded from a three-game sweep at Milwaukee with nine hits in the opener of a four-game series at Chicago. Pittsburgh starter Bryse Wilson allowed Rafael Ortega’s leadoff single in the first, then walked three straight batters. Jonathan Villar added a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead, and Seiya Suzuki had an RBI groundout in the second for a 3-0 edge. Vogelbach homered in the third, and Tsutsugo’s double made it 4-3 Pirates in the fifth. Today Pittsburgh (Quintana 0-1) at Chicago Cubs (Smyly 1-0), 2:20 p.m. Colorado (Senzatela 1-0) at Detroit (Skubal 0-1), 7:10 p.m.       WSJM/WCSY 6:50 Chicago White Sox (Kopech 0-0) at Minnesota (Ober 1-1), 8:10 p.m. MLB – Cabrera aims at 3,000 in all-Venezuelan matchup Miguel Cabrera tries again for his 3,000th career hit when the Detroit Tigers take on Colorado at Comerica Park on Friday night. The 39-year-old star needs one more hit to become the 33rd major leaguer to reach the milestone and the first from Venezuela to do it. Cabrera is set to face a fellow Venezuelan, Rockies pitcher Antonio Senzatela, in the series opener. Cabrera went 0 for 3, striking out twice, and stayed at 2,999 hits in a 3-0 win over the Yankees on Thursday. He drew an intentional walk in the eighth inning, prompting loud booing and chanting from Detroit fans. NBA – Bucks’ Middleton out at least 2 weeks with knee injury Milwaukee Bucks forward Khris Middleton is expected to miss at least two weeks after injuring his left knee Wednesday night in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series with the Chicago Bulls. The Bucks announced Thursday night that the three-time All-Star had undergone an MRI earlier that day and that they would offer their next status update on him in “approximately two weeks.” That likely knocks him out at least for the rest of the Bucks-Bulls series. Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said after he Bucks’ 114-110 loss Wednesday that Middleton had a sprained medial collateral ligament. Golf – Cantlay-Schauffele team leads in Louisiana Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele are the first-round leaders at the Zurich Classic near New Orleans.  Cantlay holed a 25-foot eagle putt early and chipped in from 40 feet for birdie late. Schauffele contributed six birdies of his own, and their three straight birdies to close gave them a 13-under 59 in fourballs.  It set a tournament record since the Zurich Classic switched to team play in 2017, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup partners were willing to claim a piece of golf’s magic number. They had a one-shot lead over the team of Matthew NeSmith and Taylor Moore. Boxing – Tyson punch on plane leads to investigation Authorities have begun an investigation after former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson was recorded on video punching a fellow passenger on board a plane at San Francisco International Airport. The video was first shared by TMZ and shows Tyson leaning over the back of his seat repeatedly striking the unidentified man in the head, drawing blood. Prior to the physical altercation, the man is seen on the video standing over Tyson’s seat, waving his arms and talking animatedly while the former boxer sits quietly. NASSAR – 13 Nassar victims seeking $130M from FBI over bungled probe Thirteen sexual assault victims are seeking $10 million each from the FBI. They claim a bungled investigation by federal agents led to more abuse by the sports doctor. It’s an effort to make the government responsible for assaults that occurred after 2015. The Justice Department’s inspector general concluded last year that the FBI made fundamental errors when it became aware of allegations against Dr. Larry Nassar. He was a Michigan State University sports doctor as well as a doctor at USA Gymnastics. FIFA – FedEx Field in Maryland drops out as 2026 World Cup site FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, has dropped out of bidding to host games at the 2026 World Cup, and the Washington area has merged its campaign with Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium. The joint bid would have a fan festival on the District of Columbia’s National Mall. Seventeen U.S. stadiums in 16 areas remain in the bidding for the World Cup, and three cities each in Canada and Mexico are bidding. The bid plan envisioned 16 total sites across the three nations, and FIFA targeted mid-June for announcing site selections. NFL – Pro Football Hall of Fame expands opportunities for seniors Senior candidates will have more opportunities to be selected for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the next three years. The hall’s Board of Trustees has approved several changes to the bylaws governing the selection of Hall of Fame enshrinees. In the past, only one player who no longer was in the modern-era category could be voted into the shrine annually. But for the 2023-2025 classes, a maximum of three per year could be chosen by the selection committee. A deep backlog of senior candidates led to the revision. NFL – Texas woman drops lawsuit claiming Jerry Jones is her father A 25-year-old Texas woman who sued Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, alleging he is her biological father, has dropped her lawsuit. The Dallas Morning News reports that Alexandra Davis said in court papers filed Wednesday that she now wants genetic testing to verify her claim. Jones’ attorneys had asked in court filings that the suit be dismissed but did not address the paternity claim. The lawsuit alleged that Jones had a relationship with Davis’ mother, Cynthia Davis, who was working as a ticket counter agent for American Airlines in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the time. Alexandra Davis was born in 1996. Robbie Grossman doubled home Detroit's first run off hard-luck loser David Mongomery, who allowed just two other hits while becoming the first Yankee to throw six innings this year. Pirates 4, Cubs 3 – Vogelbach's HR rallies Pirates past Cubs 4-3 Daniel Vogelbach hit a two-run homer, Yoshi Tsutsugo had a two-run double and the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied past the Chicago Cubs 4-3. The Pirates rebounded from a three-game sweep at Milwaukee with nine hits in the opener of a four-game series at Chicago. Pittsburgh starter Bryse Wilson allowed Rafael Ortega's leadoff single in the first, then walked three straight batters. Jonathan Villar added a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead, and Seiya Suzuki had an RBI groundout in the second for a 3-0 edge. Vogelbach homered in the third, and Tsutsugo's double made it 4-3 Pirates in the fifth. NBA – Bucks' Middleton out at least 2 weeks with knee injury Milwaukee Bucks forward Khris Middleton is expected to miss at least two weeks after injuring his left knee Wednesday night in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series with the Chicago Bulls. The Bucks announced Thursday night that the three-time All-Star had undergone an MRI earlier that day and that they would offer their next status update on him in “approximately two weeks.” That likely knocks him out at least for the rest of the Bucks-Bulls series.
