Episode 182 of the Good PizzZa Podcast, we sit down with Nat and Benjamin from Humboldt Seed Company — one of the most respected cannabis seed companies in the world. But before Humboldt Seed Co. became a global name in cannabis genetics… both of these guys were just figuring life out.Benjamin actually wound up in California almost by accident after spending nearly 10 years riding trains across America — exploring life, traveling the country, and living outside the norm.Nat's journey west looked completely different. He was heading toward California with his girlfriend at the time… until she dumped him on the way. Suddenly, he found himself at a crossroads — either go back home to the East Coast or keep pushing west.Thankfully… he kept going.Eventually, these two crossed paths living in a commune in Humboldt County, California — and the rest is history.Founded by Nathaniel Pennington in 2001, Humboldt Seed Company became known for building strong, reliable cannabis genetics while helping push the science and art of breeding forward.Benjamin has also played a major role in helping expand Humboldt Seed Co. internationally — building relationships and helping bring their genetics across the world through partnerships, exports, research, and global cannabis networking. His work has helped push Humboldt Seed Co. far beyond California into places like Europe, South America, Jamaica, and other emerging markets. They're also doing some really cool stuff outside of Cannabis. They're creating seeds and collecting genetics from all over the world of actual vegetables and herbs that you can cook with outside of just the cannabis seeds that they're known for. In this episode we get into:

The Manatee County Commission was set for a showdown this week with state authorities and developers over controls for new development. It did not happen, and WSLR News reporter Dania Hefley explains. Next up: Everybody is riled up about flooding. WSLR News reporter Ramon Lopez got Sarasota County's new stormwater management czar in front of his microphone, and he asked Ben Quartermaine a few questions. Then: After hand-wringing about runaway spending and a possible deficit opening up in a few years, Sarasota County Commissioners agreed to hold a fifth budget workshop this week. It ended with few, if any, cuts, as Suncoast Searchlight reports. Finally: A Miami judge just upended the immigrant detention center in the Everglades set up by the state government. We get local reactions.
The show opens with the terrible natural disaster that has claimed over 80 lives at this point. It's horrible. But, the Left wasted no opportunity to blame it on cuts that have not happened and staff shortages that were fabricated. It's disturbing to see glee from so many who only see the world through party ideology. At the same time this was taking place, the DOJ and the FBI released a memo stating that Jeffrey Epstein did kill himself and that there was no “client” list. This strains all credulity! It defies all we have leaned, all we have heard from insiders and whistleblowers and all the context of what has transpired before. We then turn to the Sunday news shows to discuss the modeling around the One Big Beautiful Bill, the economics of illegals versus Americans, and how a rising tide does lift all boats. I get into my thoughts on Elon Musk and a third party for America. Unfortunately, this is a time where I cannot side with such a short-sighted strategy. An armed lunatic tried to kill border patrol agents. He's taking a permanent dirt nap, now. However, this is a result of the nonstop and dangerous rhetoric coming out of the Left. Finally, we close with media numbers for MSNBC and CNN for April through June. It looks like many of you are taking my advice and turning off the bought-and-paid-for Legacy/mainstream media. In the US yesterday, Federal Reserve Chair Powell delivered a speech to members of the House of Representatives (most of whom are not economists). The main messages were: no rush to cut rates, and trade taxes create uncertainty. This will not surprise markets. There was a further softening of the data dependency mantra, as Powell focused on future inflation as a reason to keep rates unchanged for now. Powell testifies again today.

Correction: The story in this episode about Malcolm X's legacy in Queens has been edited to clarify a statement by Najha Zigbi-Johnson. New York Congress members say the Trump administration will not move forward with cuts to the federal health program for 9/11 survivors after intense public backlash. Meanwhile, New York City's Office of Equity and Racial Justice is set to release its first-ever citywide racial equity plan next month. Also, the Yankees are lifting their ban on facial hair, allowing players to have well-groomed beards for the first time in 50 years. Plus, Governor Kathy Hochul held a press conference Thursday explaining her decision on whether to remove Mayor Eric Adams from office. Finally, 60 years after Malcolm X's assassination, WNYC's Ryan Kailath explores his lesser-known history in Queens.

Close race - Cocktails -> Cancerous now - New rules for medical bill deadbeats - Markets - Poor end of year - hard hit by Grinch - killed Santa Rally - Gym parking Lots - Resolutions for January - Yields starting to becom a problem - CME Fed Funds Futures --> No CUT MAN! Market Update - December Market Update Sector Update January Markets - As expected, the start of the year is typically a time when people make resolutions they hope to keep. - In the finance world, we often hear about returning to discipline, cutting losers, adding to winners, and adhering to all the fundamental rules. - Additionally, at this time of year, investors may consider becoming more aggressive, less aggressive, more diversified, or investing in last year's winning stocks. - These thoughts and actions contribute to market volatility, which usually fades away within a couple of months when resolutions are forgotten ---- Much like how the parking lots at local gyms are packed every January, but plenty of spots open up by March. Big Issue - The big issue we need to focus on now is the continuing increase in rates as the 10-year Treasury yield has now breached a key resistance level of 4.6%, which is significant. - There are several reasons for this move, but the simple facts are that the economy is still growing and prices are on the rise. ISM Report - Not Helping (From Briefing.com) - The ISM Services PMI increased to 54.1% in December (Briefing.com consensus 53.0%) from 52.1% in November. The dividing line between expansion and contraction is 50.0%, so the December reading reflects services sector activity accelerating from November. - The key takeaway from the report is that it was a double-whammy for rate cut expectations in that the expansion in services sector activity accelerated while the prices index picked up noticeably, printing its first reading above 60.0% since January 2024. • The Business Activity/Production Index increased to 58.2% from 53.7%. • The New Orders Index bumped up to 54.2% from 53.7%. • The Employment Index dipped to 51.4% from 51.5%. • The Prices Index jumped to 64.4% from 58.2%. • The Supplier Deliveries Index rose to 52.5% from 49.5%. • The Backlog of Orders Index fell to 44.3% from 47.1%. No Cuts for A While - With prices on the rise and the economy in good shape... CME Fed Funds Nat Gas! - Natural gas futures prices surged last Monday, hitting a new 52-week high following reports of a colder-than-usual temperature outlook for January. - Natural gas February futures rose around 15% during the session after an updated outlook by The Weather Co. and Atmospheric G2 released Sunday showed that the temperature forecast for next month is expected to be colder than average in the East, specifically from Florida to Maine as well as certain parts of the Great Lakes. - POLAR VORTEX? - Already prices are fading.... Booze Bummer - The U.S. surgeon general issued a new advisory warning Friday about the link between alcohol consumption and increased cancer risk, and pushed for policy changes to help reduce the number of alcohol-related cancers. - U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy said there is a "well-established" link between drinking alcohol and at least seven types of cancer, including breast, colorectum, esophagus and liver. For cancers including breast, mouth and throat cancers, increased risk may start around one or fewer drinks per day, according to his office.
The bond market is really running the show, says David G. Dietze, who looks at the 10-year rate stealing the spotlight in the current market. The next FOMC meeting takes place January 28-29, and David says there might not be a cut coming in early 2025. Later, he shares his stock picks, which include: Paramount (PARA), CVS Health (CVS) and Nestle (NSRGY). ======== Schwab Network ======== Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Of course there was also the geopolitical news that war between Israel and Iran is about to escalate, which adds to the uncertainty in the markets, and today Vince looks at what happened and analyzes the market's reaction. Ol' Kevin McCarthy has officially done it. He's gotten crossways with the conservative members of his party in his "deal" with Biden on the debt ceiling. Hear a thundering congressman from Texas - Wesley Hunt - who says he's a no, along with clips you'll hear from Chip Roy and Scott Perry of the Freedom Caucus. Then, Stigall tees off on on those who say they're made at Trump because he called his former press secretary "milquetoast" with Emerald Robinson. And the culture war continues to churn as Stigall goes through the stories. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
