On this episode of Vinyl Verdict, Bell, Jamie and Plouffe listen to Plouffe's next pick, Fatboy Slim's "Palookaville". Released in 2004, it is the last studio album from Fatboy Slim, a.k.a Norman Cook. Continuing his style of loops and beats, the album was released to mixed reviews, with many reviewers calling it a low-point in his career. Several reviewers also noted that the album could've used another pass to remove unnecessary songs. But what will the boys think? Will this album only appeal to long haired freaky people? Come along and find out!

Norman Cook, or Fatboy Slim, is a Brighton & Hove Albion superfan and a club legend, in every sense of the word. As a DJ, he's played to crowds of more than three hundred thousand people in places like Brazil and Japan. But he also remembers the days at Gillingham and Withdean, when the crowds were more intimate. In this episode, he discusses Brighton's Premiership and Europa League journeys, shapes, and what taxi drivers all over the world have to say about his beloved football team. This podcast is a Voiceworks Sport production in partnership with Brighton and Hove Albion. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Engage XR produced a 45-minute “Eat Sleep VR Repeat” – Immersive Metaverse Concert in collaboration with Fatboy Slim's Norman Cook that showed in a limited screening on March 30, 2023. It was an incredibly, mind-bending and groundbreaking VR concert experience that combined novel interactions and social dynamics, but also a trippy and psychedelic journey through the mind and music of Norman Cook. I had a chance to catch a press preview of this virtual concert on March 28th, and then unpack the creative process with Engage XR's Head of Studio David McDermott and Fatboy Slim's own Norman Cook on March 31, 2023 after they had finished all of their screenings. No news of upcoming shows has been released yet, and I'll try to keep these show notes updated with more information on future concerts, as this was certainly an experience not to be missed.
Albion fan and DJ Norman Cook discusses the season, Roberto de Zerbi, his connection with the city and the club, and the work of Albion in the Community. Newcastle commentator Matthew Raisbeck previews the game at St James' Park.
The La's y su (único) gran single “There She Goes”. Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, “Jennifer She said”. The Stone Roses, “She Bangs The Drums”. The Smiths, “Some Girls Are Bigger Than Other”. The Woodentops, “Good Thing”. Everything But The Girl, "When All's Well”. Grupo de origen Indie Pop con toques de Jazz, pasando por el Pop ochentero y acabando como una banda de electrónica en los 90s, pero siempre conservando su sello independiente. La canción se editó como single en 1985 muy influenciado por el sonido de gitarras de los Smiths. The Housemartins, “Bow Down”. Una de sus canciones más bonitas, que no se llegó a lanzar con single, pertenece al segundo y último disco de la banda, publicado en 1987. Poco tiempo después anunciaron su disolución. Como dato curioso, uno de sus integrantes, el que tocaba el bajo, no era otro que Norman Cook, más conocido por Fatboy Slim. Modern English, "I Melt with You”. The Essence, “Only For You”. The Cure, “Lovesong”. The Psychedelic Furs, “Heaven”. Peter Murphy, “Cuts You Up”. The Chameleons, “Tears”. The House Of Love, "I Don't Know Why I Love You”. Grupo Londinense de Rock Alternativo, con varios discos publicados entre los 80s y los 90s. Su mayor éxito fue esta canción, publicada como single en 1989. The Mighty Lemon Drop, "Inside Out (12'' Version)". Banda inglesa de Post-Punk muy influenciada por Echo & The Bunnymen. En activo entre 1985 y 1993. La canción se editó como single en 1988 convirtiéndose en su mayor éxito. Espero que os agrade el Podcast y ayude a conocer alguna de estas maravillosas canciones. Norman Cook has been a fixture as superstar DJ Fat Boy Slim since the 90s. He started his musical career as part of the band the Housemartins but it was Fat Boy Slim that changed his life. In 1998, his second album "You've Come Along Way Baby" went to number 1, featuring the now classic dance tracks "Praise You”, "Right Here Right Now” and “Rockafeller Skank”. His legendary party Big Beach Boutique II, took place on Brighton beach 20 years ago and made the history books as the biggest outdoor party to have ever taken place in the UK. Sky recently released a documentary about it called “Right Here, Right Now”. Here, Norman talks about that day, his journey to success, family, getting sober and life now. Norman has two children with his ex wife, radio presenter Zoe Ball and still lives in Brighton, where he even served coffee during the pandemic. SUPPORT MUSIC IS NOT A GENRE ON PATREON WATCH MUSIC is not a GENRE VIDEOS and MORE There's nothing that gets me going like a good Housemartins song. When you hear one of their mega hits on the radio, it takes you back to a time when… Okay you get it. Practically no one has heard of the Housemartins, the 1980s British jangle pop band whose biggest hit was an a cappella cover of the Isley, Jasper, Isley song “Caravan of Love”. If you were into the Smiths, you should go check them out. And while you're listening, keep in mind that their bass player was Norman Cook. Another forgotten name, right? Sure, except that in 1996 he adopted the stage name Fatboy Slim and helped to change the face of dance music. Like so many successful DJs, his roots were in music other than dance. In Cook's case, punk & the aforementioned jangle pop. Throughout all that he was DJing – often as DJ Quentox, but it didn't come to the forefront for him until the late 1980s when he formed the loose collective Beats International. This was back when sampling was becoming huge, but before any laws were passed to regulate it. Naturally, sampling lawsuits were becoming huge too. And one hit Cook so hard he had to pivot, which in turn helped to infuse his music with even more original ideas & exploration beyond the recontextualizing of sampling & remixing he had mostly been doing. During this time, he worked under the band names Freak Power, Pizzaman & the Mighty Dub Katz, before finally settling on Fatboy Slim, a name he says is “goofy & ironic” like much of his music. As Fatboy Slim, he blew up, particularly his second album, 1998's You've Come a Long Way, Baby. With “Right Here, Right Now”, “The Rockafeller Skank” & “Praise You”, he broke through internationally and never looked back. Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars continued the success, particularly with “Weapon of Choice” & that awesome Christopher Walken video. Since then Cook kept at it in various ways, as Fatboy Slim, the Brighton Port Authority, again as Mighty Dub Katz, and doing remixes for all kinds of artists including Cornershop, A Tribe Called Quest & the Beastie Boys. No matter what Cook does, he's always exploring & expanding, never settling for rote dance music of ANY kind. He always infuses his music with a variety of sources – samples, funk, electronica, rock, glitch, world, ambient, spoken word – and structures his songs like SONGS and not just seven minutes of danceable music. He's a DJ. An artist. A musician. And to some that's controversial. I've been a DJ off & on since I was a pre-teen. Even back then I understood that there are many kinds of DJs & many ways TO DJ. Play only the hits. Play the hits but throw in some surprises. Play obscure tunes altogether. Play a mix of genres or play all one kind of music. Play stand-alone songs, or crossfade & beat match. Create remixes of existing songs as new styles. Create entirely new mixes & remixes, both as recordings and completely on the spot live. It's been 25 years this week since Norman Cook put out the Fatboy Slim debut album 'Better Living Through Chemistry'. I thought it would be interesting to put together a mix based on the tracks from the album. Not just a normal mix though, I've been diving into the tracks themselves to pull out loops and samples which are sprinkled through this DJ set. It's a little chaotic but then again that seems on theme when you're talking about Fatboy Slim.
The subject that we have explored, possibly more than any other, in the past year of The Possibility Club podcast has been the impact of the pandemic on the music industry. We've heard perspectives on festivals and clubs from Norman Cook as well as the plight of venues from Mark Davyd and the Music Venue Trust. We spoke to songwriter Fiona Bevan and opera singer Meeta Raval about lockdown through an artists' lens. Why? It has been the microcosm of the macrocosm - an industry that was already under significant strain, learning the hard way that the 21st century is turning out to be very very different from the one before. Also the music industry is, at once, the jewel in the UK's economic crown punching above its weight around the world - and also an increasingly hostile place for new and emerging performers, writers or venues that people to take a few risks. Pre-COVID-19, all was not well - but the opportunities were huge. Afterwards, it will be similar - but potentially in different ways. In this episode, we return to music, and all of its diverse slipstreams, one last time. Our special contributors, thinking hard about what comes next, are: Rachael Perrin, a musician, social entrepreneur and creative industries coach - known by many for being the co-founder and co-director of community music facilitators, Soundcastle. Thom Milner-Smith is a music and live events promoter based in Worthing on the south coast. His company, atom presents, produces different scale gigs and shows - and had to make some big decisions over the past 18 months. And Laura Vane is known as 'the little lady with the big voice', a singer of her own volition collaborating closely with acts such as The Streets, Gnarls Barkley and MJ Cole - and also the frontwoman Anglo-Dutch funk band The Vipertones. Each of these guests are speaking in a personal capacity, and from the heart, from different stages in the pandemic - from right back at the start when lockdown was a novelty, to more recently in Spring 2021 with the UK cautiously opening up. --- Useful links: https://www.atompresents.co.uk/ https://soundcastle.co.uk/ https://lauravane.com/ --- If you've not yet signed up to Richard's free weekly love letter to society, Finding Chances, then you can for free at www.findingchances.substack.com. In this After Corona episode, we're returning to look at the music industry, which has had an incredibly tumultuous year, and building on our past conversations with Norman Cook, Amy Lamé and Fiona Bevan who all referred to the work of the man you are about to hear. Mark Davyd is the founder and CEO of Music Venue Trust, the charity that represents hundreds of small and medium-sized venues in the UK. He is the co-owner of Tunbridge Wells Forum, a venue he founded in a toilet over 20 years ago and was the former CEO of Rhythmix, for two decades the multi-award winning music and mental health organisation that worked with young people in challenging circumstances. Mark's past commercial music career has also seen him work as an artist manager, label owner and promoter. There is very little about the music industry that is not understood by my guest this episode. Mark, and the Music Venues Trust, have been hailed as heroes by many in the UK for running some very hard-hitting campaigns that put small and medium pubs and gig venues at the forefront of cultural recovery funding. Veteran radio DJ Steve Lamacq is just one of the voices calling for Mark Davyd and his team to receive an official honour - because since March 2020, an estimated £1.2million has been raised, preventing 556 music venues from having to close. We spoke to Mark shortly before Christmas 2020 - about the campaign and the forensic approach by the Music Venues Trust, and what elements of their approach worked and why, what more is to be done, and whether the music industry will be scarred forever by the near death experience of so many of its grassroots venues. Dub be good to me comme les religieux chanterait God has been good to me !
As you know, we're exploring the impact of Covid-19 and other 21st century traumas on UK life - particularly the worlds of business, culture and education - talking to those working at the coalface. A special area of focus, over a number of episodes, is the music industry. Already a sector facing radical adaptation in a digital age, always treading a fine line between a public devoted to live music, festivals and championing their favourite artists and unsustainable business models, the death of record sales and a fragile future for many grassroots music venues. Throw in a global pandemic, and even the most fundamental recording, touring, creating and performing becomes a minefield. We've spoken to Norman Cook about club and festival survival, Meeta Raval about the state of opera and Amy Lamé about London's night-time economy in lockdown - with many more expert voices still to come, who will help to unpick this complex and valuable world. In this podcast episode, our special guest is Fiona Bevan. East Anglian Fiona is both a singer-songwriter of her own folk-inspired music and one of the UK's most prolific pop and rock songwriters for global acts as diverse as Kylie Minogue, Steps, Nick Mulvey, Lewis Capaldi, Aurora, Ed Harcourt and The Backstreet Boys to name just a handful. A contributor to a clutch of top 40 hit singles and albums, and an acclaimed performer of her own work, Fiona is still best known by many for co-writing the song 'Little Things' with Ed Sheeran. The song was released by One Direction in 2012, getting to number one in 13 countries with platinum certified sales in the UK, USA, Australia, Norway, Mexico and Canada, winning a coveted BMI award for the song-writing. Richard spoke to Fiona about the real lows of being a performer when you are banned from performing, the highs of having a dizzyingly upbeat track included on one of the biggest selling albums of 2020 - and what she thinks needs to change as the industry recovers from this unprecedented crisis. --- Useful links: https://fionabevan.co.uk/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiona_Bevan http://www.navigatorrecords.co.uk/artists/fiona-bevan/ https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/kylie-minogue-songwriter-fiona-bevan-paid-only-100-in-streaming-royalties-for-album-work-xbdl0cxcs https://www.songwritingmagazine.co.uk/how-i-wrote/one-direction-little-things-fiona-bevan --- For more information on how you can get involved with The Possibility Club – an inclusive community of professionals working out what's next, have a look here > www.thepossibilityclub.org You can also receive Finding Chances, a free weekly letter from Richard Freeman, looking behind-the-scenes at business, culture, community and education by signing-up at findingchances.substack.com/ We'd love to know what you think of this podcast. Titres écoutés dans l'émission : “Right here, right now”, “The rockafeller skank”, “Fucking in heaven”, “Gangster tripping”, “Build it up, Tear it down”, “Kalifornia”, “Soul surfing”, “You're not from Brighton”, “Praise you”, “Love island” et “Acid 8000”. The Housemartins “Caravan of love”, Beats International “Dub be good to me”, Just Brothers “Sliced tomatoes”, Vinyl Dogs Vibe feat. Lord Finesse “Vinyl dogs”, John Barry “Beat girl - main title”, DJ Shadow “Entropy”, Ann Robinson “All brothers”, James Young “Barkin up the wrong tree”, Dust Junkys “Beat bo wash”. These conversations are through the lens of Post-traumatic growth - and seeing if there can be such a thing in UK society, culture and business. The Covid-19 pandemic has been the weirdest and least planned-for social experiment in our lifetimes, and it has exposed what is broken about many of our systems and sectors - as well as what is possible when you allow new ideas to be tested. In this episode, the topic is the UK's clubs, festivals and night-time music culture. And our very special guest is Norman Cook. Norman Cook has had a unique and prolific music career since 1985 when he joined indiepop band The Housemartins, before experimenting with new sounds in hip-hop, house music and big beat as a producer, remixer and artist - going on to become one of the most globally recognised superstar DJs in the mid-90s under his alias Fatboy Slim. Norman holds the Guinness World Record for having the most top 40 hits under different names and aliases - from Beats International and Freak Power to Mighty Dub Katz and Pizzaman. He is a regular staple on the summer festival circuits, headlining stages all over the world and closing stages at Coachella, Glastonbury the New Orleans Voodoo Music Experience and Bestival amongst many others; and his legendary one-off shows include performances at World Cups, in the House of Commons, at the London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony and to over 100,000 people on Brighton Beach. We spoke to Norman in September 2020, just as the second wave of coronavirus was starting to become apparent in Europe - and we talked about the impact of the pandemic on the world of dance music, festivals and clubs - and whether there can be anything positive taken from a time in which the experiences he is famous for creating have been forbidden and unsafe. --- Useful links: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatboy_Slim https://www.fatboyslim.net/ https://www.mixcloud.com/FatboySlim/fatboy-slim-lockdown-mixtape/ —-- For more information on how you can get involved with The Possibility Club – an inclusive community of professionals working out what's next, have a look here. On this week's episode I'm speaking to a real dance floor pioneer - Fatboy Slim. Known in certain circles as Norman Cook, he's from the first generation of Superstar DJ's, been the go-to guy for huge anthems over the last few decades, and is still a key player in the UK's rich tapestry of nightlife. He's truly royalty here in Cool Britannia, and I'm honoured to bow down and talk to him here on Life of The Party. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Cornershop are one of the most influential and original British bands of the ’90s but have not performed live for over 10 years. Tom interviewed founding members Tjinder Singh and Ben Ayres, who have been firm friends since college, about frustrations with the record label, both being “massive music freaks”, and Norman Cook remixing their No.1 hit ‘Brimful of Asha’.
Party Favorz is back with some deep peak hour music for those who start their party later in the evening. Red Alert features the hottest Tech House tracks at the moment with some funky surprises thrown in to mix things up and tingle your spine. Claptone & Mylo's "Drop the Pressure" kicks things off and sets the mood for subsequent tracks before all hell breaks loose. This track is currently sitting at the top of most DJ sets but it's the lesser known songs that are the real winners here. The Cube Guys have recently re-entered the scene after years of success in the commercial and underground space of the electronic music scene in the early millennium. Actually, they never went away but they're definitely making their presence felt these days. The joined up with Bando and re-grooved Dee-Lite's early 90's smash "Groove Is In the Heart" turning it into a deep Tech House track that would fill any dancefloor if we had any. Norman Cook a.k.a. Fatboy Slim is another master class producer and his infectious "All the Ladies" hits that deep groove spot and holds steady before we launch into another Cube Guys remix of the 90's alternative House classic "Red Alert" by Basement Jaxx. Johan S delivers the funky Tech House stomper "Smoke This" and Salt N Pepa's 80's classic "Push It" get's another rework by Safety First!, which is one of two versions currently out for 2020. "Push It" is just one of those songs that delivers in any environment and it would be really difficult to NOT make it a crowd pleaser. Trance megastars Above & Beyond take a stark turn and resurrect New Order's 80's alternative dance classic "Blue Monday" turning it into a massive roof-raising monster with it's signature synth. The always diverse Lucas Debonaire delivers a funky mashup that samples Michael Jackson's famous hook in "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" and mashes it with the 80's M|A|R|R|S Acid House classic "Pump Up the Volume" and creates an all new booty shaker that's bound to please. Another track blowing up at the moment is the Riva Starr remix of the 2009 Dennis Ferrer low-key House classic "Hey Hey." Here, Riva Starr drops in a familiar Giorgio Moroder groove, bumps up the BPM by 5 and flips this track 360 degrees. Buzz Low's "Thong Song" is a track I just can't get sick of no matter how many times I listen to it. It's definitely a crowd-pleaser with an infectious hook. If things weren't the way they are at the moment, Spinnin Records would have a smash on their hands. Roger M's "Discosizer" lifts the 80's Miguel Brown Hi NRG classic "So Many Men, So Little Time" and mashes it with our favorite DIVA Loleatta Holloway. In fact, there's another Loleatta sample buried in this set as well. I've said it before and keep saying it, this woman's back catalog is likely the most sampled in modern era House Music — full stop! As usual, I could go on and on but I'll let this set speak for itself. COMING SOON After the flubbed incident with Podbean erroneously cancelling my account and subsequently all the subscriptions, it's been one issue after another, while I was trying to make some cosmetic changes to the website. I've gotten through all that but it has put me behind schedule. I already have the cover art and track list compiled for the Spring Edition 2020, so expect that to finally drop by mid-week. I had several new Diva Hall of Fame entries scheduled but decided to drop the one I was saving for last by this coming weekend. My goal is to uplift everyone with things I know you want even if you don't know it yet. I'll follow-up with the other new diva entries, which are small potatoes in comparison the following week before diverting your attention again. I hope everyone is staying safe but still manages to have a fabulous weekend. Until the next time...ENJOY! Norman Cook is a legend. Under the moniker Fatboy Slim the British producer and DJ has been making us dance for decades. His breakthrough album “You've Come a Long Way Baby” gave us ‘Right Here Right Now', ‘Gangster Trippin', ‘The Rockafella Skank', and of course ‘Praise You'. Twenty years ago that song came in at #4 in the Hottest 100, but his popularity has never waned, and when he visited Australia to play massive outdoor shows, I asked him to Take 5. Norman's background is textured; in the 80's he was playing bass with The Housemartins, he had a hit with Beats International, and in 1996 was born again as Fatboy Slim. But at base level, he's a fan. So I asked him to Take 5 with his “dancefloor evergreens”; the songs that never left his crate, that he always returned to. What I didn't realise, is that Norman Cook was about to show us the musical blueprint of who he was today. From the turning point of how he became a DJ, to late nights with British Big Beat legends, and where his musical head is at today, this is an incredibly rich convo with a helluva soundtrack. Arthur Conley – ‘Sweet Soul Music' The Clash – ‘Magnificent Seven' Donna Summer – ‘I Feel Love (Patrick Cowley remix)' J Walter Negro And The Loose Joints – ‘Shoot The Pump' Underworld - ‘Rez'

In this final episode of the trilogy of podcast interviews with the 3 main people behind Ibiza - The Silent Movie, we finish off with none other than Fatboy Slim. Norman Cook has curated a soundscape that hugs the visual of this unique film. In the interview, we discuss his vast career in the music industry, from a little known band prior to the Housemartins all the way to his current artist name. We also talk about how he became the Musical Director and the process of which he selected and mixed the tracks for the soundtrack. I wanted to get these podcasts out prior to the film being aired on BBC4, so that you can all get an insight into the behind the scenes workings of the film. It's been an honour to have been involved in this film and I have to give Norman Cook my deepest gratitude for asking me to take part. As you’ll hear, it’s really quite a monumental career at that - indeed, he goes decades deeper than a few hit singles. From an early start with his band The Housemartins, he’s had more pseudonyms than Kool Keith and played to more people than - well, you name em… The very definition of a superstar DJ, let’s say! From some podcast chatter up top, to some light Millwall vs Brighton banter, to his early days in Reigate being a punk up against a sea of teddyboys, the homogeneity of culture these days, the relationship dynamics of being in a band, how he’s always been into indie and dance music when the two were not as mixed up as the present day, that insane Brighton beach show, collaborating with previous DPP guest Ryca, being very much in the public eye via his marriage to Zoe Ball and SO much brilliant music talk throughout. With the Scottish Tug of War team picking up 20 World Championship gold medals in various categories there's plenty of success to look back on and all eyes are currently on the upcoming British and Irish Indoor Championships on February 2 and 3. With the tournament scheduled to take place at Piperdam, in Dundee, the Scottish team can look forward to home advantage but also have to manage the extra pressure that comes with it. **Part Two** Alasdair, Will and Shona present the news round-up (24.28) as they go through some of the important headlines that caught their eyes, including more WADA controversy, the retirement of Katherine Copeland and a look ahead to the Netball World Cup. Inspired by collections and the meaning that people place upon them. Photographer Mark Vessey's latest project captures the inspirations of Norman Cook through his music. He talks to Art Related Nonsense about his work, how Attitude magazine led to his series photographing collections and how he ended up giving Kate Moss his collection of Vogue magazines.
Number 7 in my series of Podcasts, talking to artists and music industry people to find out about the Current State of Music and what that means to them. Midfield General is the recording alias of Skint label boss Damian Harris. A prime architect of the sound of big beat, Harris grew up listening first to punk rock, then hip hop, and finally acid house. He then moved to Brighton to study art, eventually taking work as a DJ while promoting clubs around the city. In 1994, his music knowledge landed him a job at Loaded Records, where former Housemartins member Norman Cook - a friend of Harris' since his days working at the Rounder store in Brighton - recorded as Pizzaman. Since then he has DJed around the world, run a very successful record label, left that label and has just recently returned to it. FInd out more at: http://www.skintentertainment.com/
Norman talks to Nihal about bringing a nightclub atmosphere to arenas and why DJ’ing still gives him a buzz.
On this weeks episode of the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, we are featuring a special guest mix from house music icon Jay Vegas. Here is a bit more about the man, myth, and legend. There's not many in today's scene whose music you can instantly recognize, but Jay Vegas has quickly become one of them, having developed his own unique twisted disco sound. 2010 saw the beginning of Jay's solo venture after moving on from previous alias Groove Invaderz. Since conception his funky style has been well received, gaining support from some of the industry's biggest names including; Erick Morillo, Mousse T, Norman Cook, Junior Vasquez, Danny Rampling and Grant Nelson. Grant Nelson in particular has helped push his sound by regularly featuring Jay's tracks on his Housecall Radio Show. In 2011 Jay joined San Francisco based heavyweight Jackin House label Guesthouse - settling in amongst a roster of hugely talented artists such as DJ Sneak, Gramophonedzie, Sonny Fodera, Gene Farris, DJ Dan and DJ Mes. As well as holding down a busy DJ schedule, Jay also runs his own imprint Hot Stuff Records. It's already become a firm favourite with DJ's, having released a string of Traxsource #1's with his own tracks: Say To Ya, Luv Drug & Body & Soul. Jay is no stranger to the music scene,he began his career in the early 90's alongside other local producers K-Klass and King Unique. Working under different aliases Jay remixed tracks for many successful pop stars like Holly Johnson (Frankie Goes To Hollywood) & East 17. His remix of East 17 - Hey Child (made with Matthew Roberts)went on to became a hit in Ibiza and Pete Tong's "Essential New Tune" as did his remix of Kaya - My God is Real which came out on Erick Morrilo's world famous label Subliminal. Jay's music has been released on all the recognized leading CD compilations: Ministry of Sound, Cream Anthems and Hed Kandi. Jay's musical taste knows no boundaries and he has never been restricted by genre - his "If it's good, I'll play it" mentality has took him around the world playing at some of the best clubs, from Ibiza to as far as Australia. While I've been diligent in revisiting other iconic eras and genres in our extensive collection, the 90s house scene has been calling for a fresh take. And with this mix, I'm confident we've paid proper tribute to this game-changing decade. First off, let's clear the air regarding Onephatdeeva's "Bad Habit" featuring Lisa Millett. Yes, the official release was in 2000, but the promo had been floating around since late '99, making it a perfect fit for this compilation. If you've heard it in our "Get Up n' Dance | Millennial House Classics v4," that's no accident—it's a track so good it transcends decades as do many of these songs. Now, let's talk about some of the standout tracks. Beats International's "Dub Be Good To Me" featuring Lindy Layton starts things off with its tantalizing blend of reggae-infused house, a Norman Cook (a.k.a.Fatboy Slim) touch that was groundbreaking for its time. Then we have Heavy D & The Boyz's "Now That We Found Love," remixed by the legendary David Morales. This song is a high-energy journey, an effervescent blend of rhythm and vocal prowess. The Bucketheads' "Got Myself Together" is an essential inclusion. The KenLou Mix provides a timeless vibe that remains as fresh today as it was back then. If you're more into the emotional depth house can offer, Saundra Williams' "I Want It, I Need It (Real Love)" with MK's Real Dub will evoke that feeling of yearning and release, which is what house music, at its core, often aims to do. Praxis featuring Kathy Brown rouses the dancefloor with "Turn Me Out," a floor-filler with a melody you can't escape. Kathy's vocals in this Delorme UK Club Mix are a resonant call to the dance floor, inviting and relentless. No 90s House Music Classics mix is complete without some Moby, and his "Move" in the Electro Mix is a nod to how versatile this decade was, blending elements of electronic music with classic house beats. And let's not forget the sugary sweetness of CJ Bolland's "Sugar Is Sweeter," revamped into a Drum n Bass Mix by none other than Armand Van Helden. This track embodies the adventurous spirit of the '90s, where artists and DJs were unafraid to experiment, to blend genres and break down musical barriers. Before we wrap up, it's important to give a nod to our namesake track "Let There Be House" by Deskee, remixed by WestBam. This song not only encapsulates the ethos of this compilation but also serves as a credo for house music itself—bold, unapologetic, and utterly danceable.

YEEEHAAAAAAAAAA!!! “What’s all the fussin’ about Shane?” -You People Well, I’ll tell you. We made it. We did it. We didn’t get fired (yet). It’s been a year since we started doing this damn thing, and Ryan even brought in a bottle of bubbly to commemorate the occasion. So in order to celebrate our first 365 days on ONEOFUS.NET we decided to do a supersized mixtape show for you guys. A mixtape show is pretty much the same as a regular show, only instead of just discussing one album, we all pick videos to surprise each other with, and alternate until no man is left alive. Or something like that. Also it was supposed to tie in with Memorial Day, but we couldn’t even get our shit together enough to even do that. Regardless, we think it’s a pretty amusing show and we hope you do too. And now the Players: KEVIN NEWSUM: Bleachers: I Wanna Get Better Is there anything that Jack Antonoff writes that isn’t anthemic? That word made a repeat appearance as we discussed this track and its corresponding video, wherein Antonoff plays an erstwhile therapist who lives in a terrible apartment building and dates (or did once), a girl who brought her own lamp over. Whatever happened to toothbrushes? Old Dirty Bastard: Shimmy Shimmy Ya One of the miracles of the internet that has since broken out is the marrying of ODB’s Shimmy Shimmy Ya (also seen in the opening scene of Knocked Up) to video of Dr. Teeth from The Muppets. It’s remarkable, and if you’ve not seen it go find the internet (oh, you’re here already!) and view. Beyond that, this was my take on soundtracking the Hip Hop Pool Party. Perfect for those who like it raw, whatever that means. Fatboy Slim: Weapon Of Choice You could make the argument that Norman Cook’s Weapon Of Choice here is a uniquely charismatic Christopher Walken. When this video hit the airwaves back in the day, seeing Walken’s giant forehead out of character, instead of reflecting his formal dance training, turned heads. We also talk about how Norman Cook / Fatboy Slim was once in the Housemartins, which some found surprising. ## RYAN NEWSUM ## George Clinton: Atomic Dog Clinton, of Parliament/Funkadelic fame, brought us this genius nugget of 8-bit (seriously, check out the video) wonder, Atomic Dog. Better known now for the legions (lesions?) of samples it spawned, this song nevertheless brought funk to the ‘burbs. Soundtrack to the time I totally “frenched” a girl next to a Joust video game when I was 11. Cheap Trick: She’s Tight This was my jam when I was hitting up my local skating rink as a fifth-grader. I distinctly recall requesting it from the (probably 17-year-old) DJ, and his reply, “Aren’t you a little young for that?” Yes, yes I was, because I had absolutely no idea that “She’s Tight” had a sexual connotation. Not so subtle on the video, though. Proud that Cheap Trick was my first for-real concert experience, even if it was at Astroworld. Gene: Olympian Ah yes, Gene. Not Morrissey. I repeat, not Morrissey. Totally picked this song because Shane is such a Smiths/Morrissey geek that I knew I’d get an intriguing reaction, and sure enough, he didn’t disappoint. Totally solid song, and this band would so totally not exist were it not for Morrissey/Marr, et al. ## SHANE BARTELL ## Falco:Rock Me Amadeus Well I went with a theme this time, starting with a video in the 80’s, continuing through to the 90’s, and Aughts. First up, I just thought everybody needed to be reminded of the genius that is(was) Falco. Well, this is FUCKING genius. However there was never a proper video releases with English lyrics (or we sure as shit couldn’t find one) so we bounced around a few. All worth the effort of finding on-line. The same thing can be said, nay, SHOUTED AT THE TOP OF ONE’S LUNGS about… Chavez: Break Up Your Band which is my favorite video of the 90’s. It just can’t be explained. Much the same as… Britney Spears:Toxic Very confusing. Still holds up in the lascivious eye candy department though. ### Coming Up ### OK! Hope you guys enjoy this show, we certainly enjoyed making it. Next time another curve ball…Mark Couvillion (producer Mark) hijacks our show and picks all the music we have to listen to. Until then…

Evolution… It began in Africa. Beware the first 35 minutes are naughty, one could say raunchy.. If you play it at work, it is at your own peril.. This is NOT background music for your sunday lunch if the folks are visiting.. Naughty, Deep n' Sexy and rhythmic episode. We start in Chicago and Detroit, where House began, then slowly incorporate rhythmic roots from Africa, where " it all began", to finally fuse it up with Latin and Brazilian influences , all throughout with a distinct naughty undertone. The set is both a challenge and an experiment, hence the title “Evolution… It began in Africa “. A challenge, for I wanted to try rhythms and musical colours I usually shy away from. An experiment, for I tried to build the set without looking at the beatgrid as a "beast" I needed to "tame". In all fairness, with these percussions and syncopated beats, the visual beatgrid is normally useless. Yet, without the comfort of the software finding the beatgrid, I had to dig deep and feel when, where and how to blend in the different layers of sounds I wanted to play with. A challenge to say the least.. but I wanted to learn how to do it before going back to the security and bliss of pure soulful house.. The first half hour is resolutely naughty to hook some of the listeners. Then, we dive into the rhythmic part with just enough sugar not to lose too many of you, to finally we settle in South America, a musical space I usually hardly cover. There are treasures buried deep into the mix and I will re-use some of them in my next set, which I promise, will NOT be a challenge but just a fun, upfront house, happy episode. Do not be taken aback with “It began in Africa”.. I really had to go there before dwelling back in my normal space. For this podcast to remain fun for me to do, I need to try new things and to…yes.. Jorge Montia Highlights: not sure everyone will like the first 35 minutes but I sure had fun with the samples.. "Can You Feel It" is smooth deep and sexy house. I personally love the rhythmic rendition of Dennis Ferrer's classic "Touched The Sky" the remixer on Soundcloud shifted the key. It is slightly off key and pure genius! "Domination" from Euphonik has all the wholemark of a future classic. " Mi Ma Bo" at the junction of Latin, Maanzi and pure house is the track that insipred the set. Do not miss "Yesterday's Gone" from Spiritchaser and the new Sandy Rivera with Kings of Tomorrow "Show Me".. I will resuse them both shortly. They should not be buried in a somewhat personal set like this one. I hope some of you will actually stay with me on this one and I absolutely promise that the next one with just be FUN. Xtian
Felipe y Diego nos hablan de You've come a long way, Baby, de Fatboy Slim.

After his 4 years of residency at Club Hipopotamus, he started to be invited to spin at Brazil's top clubs nationwide in cities like Rio,Sao Paulo, Belem, Campo Grande, etc. A few years later, the result was an international proposal to work in Portugal where he lived for three years spinning at Algarve's 1 club Trigonometria (2500 capacity) and also presenting a daily radio show at top English station Solar Radio. Back to Brazil, Rodrigo started his record company career working for Sony Music as a Dance music A&R. While his career at Sony was going up, Rodrigo has never abandoned the turntables andkept spinning at parties in many different countries (Brazil, Costa Rica, Spain, US, England). In 1991 Rodrigo was voted the 1 DJ in Rio de Janeiro by DJ Sound Magazine?s national poll, the most respected in the country. In 1997, moved to Miami to work with Sony Music's Latin regional office. Since then, Rodrigo has done everything : produced compilations, mixed them, remixed tracks, was executive producer of remixes of artists such as Mariah Carey, Earth Wind and Fire, Wyclef Jean, The Fugees, Shakira and Ricky Martin. Also started to produce electronic artists and has managed the album releases of DJ's such as Roger Sanchez, Fatboy Slim, X Press 2, DJ Rap and Josh Wink in Latin America. Rodrigo was also the VP of Strategic Marketing and New Media for Universal Music Latin America, handling a electronic music division with partners and distributed labels such as Defected, Subliminal, Ministry of Sound and Soulshine. He mixed many compilations for MoS and was the first DJ ever to mix a Subliminal compilation without belonging to the label's cast. Besides this, has his own production label, Exit 12 Inc. and handles a JV with US based labels Basswalk Records and UC Music Group. Rodrigo turntables = HOUSE Can be funky, techy, electro a mix of influences absorbed during his career. He has lived the story of House music in his own veins. From the born of the Chicago House and characters such as Marshall Jefferson and Farley "Jackmaster" Funk to Kevin Saunderson's Sound of Detroit. From the born of London's Acid House to the Soulful House of Tony Humphries and Frankie Knuckles. From the deepest garage sounds to the progressive days of Sasha and Digweed. From Mike Pickering's unforgettable sets at Hacienda to Norman Cook's mega parties at Brighton Beach. From Morales to Angelo and Ingrosso. And the list goes on names that certainly influenced him Tenaglia, Morillo, Jellybean, Farina, Sanchez, Levan, Vega and Gonzalez. He was always there and lived it all.Special Thanks to UC Media Group And Rodrigo Viera
