Andrii Shadrin is a 28-year-old Ukrainian corporal who serves in a military unit that repairs and replaces equipment damaged in frontline fighting. Shadrin describes what it's like to return to the battlefield after an injury, when military equipment and ammunition are in short supply. And, Nuha al-Junaid, a Yemeni woman in exile, has been speaking with people across war-torn Yemen and in the diaspora. Their voices show a diversity of experiences that reveal how life does not stop for war. Also, American officials have said that they had warned the Kremlin of an imminent terrorist threat in the days leading up to the March 22 attack that left more than 130 people dead. This is part of a US policy that requires intelligence-sharing in instances where civilian lives are in danger. Plus, remembering Algerian Jewish pianist Maurice el Medioni, who died at the age of 95.

Bush vows that the aggression “will not stand” and begins assembling an international coalition to force a withdrawal. Invited into Saudi Arabia, the recently reformed American military prepares for an eventual confrontation with Iraq's battle-hardened forces. Sarah Cypher is the author of The Skin and its Girl, out now from Ballantine Books! The novel follows  the blue-skinned, queer second-generation Palestinian-American protagonist Betty Rummani, as she navigates difficult questions in her own life by turning to her memories of her great-aunt Nuha for guidance.  The fictional Rummani family are in exile from Palestine, where they had owned a soap factory for hundreds of years, over many generations– a soap factory that was destroyed on the day that Betty was born with blue skin, where the story begins. With this book, I re-learned how to slow down and actually enjoy reading– reading for the pleasure of it, for beautiful prose, and to immerse myself in a world and a story and an experience. In this conversation we talk about Sarah's journey with the novel, its relationship with her identity as a second-generation Arab-American, and about navigating being a queer writer. www.sarahcypher.comInstagram: @sarahcypherTwitter: @threepennyFind us !Instagram: @queereverythingpodcastWebsite: http://www.queereverything.comYouTube: Queer Everything

Sign up for the 21 day Becoming Confident Challenge: https://soul.visalakshi.com/Jointhechallenge This week, I was a guest on a podcast and was interviewed by Nuha Omer, who is an incredible, high-achieving high school student. She just recently launched a podcast all about hidden biases in the South Asian community. The conversation was so powerful, I asked to share the interview here on my podcast. She asked some really incredible, powerful questions about mental health issues in the South Asian community, and we had so many takeaways from the conversation about what prevents us from getting mental health help within our communities. Why are so many of us so hesitant? What prevents us? Why is there a stigma around getting support? We are afraid to have the scary conversations, the very vulnerable, honest conversations, and that is precisely what Nuha knew to dig into in this episode. If you love this, let me know what you think. Don't forget to register for the 21 Day Becoming Confident Challenge! Much of the current innovation in the fintech space focuses on empowering the unbanked and the underbanked to have access to crucial financial services. One people group that has been continually overlooked is Gen Z (ages 11-25), who only have access to cash or their parents' cards to make payments. Zywa is on a mission to change that. Zywa is a social banking app and prepaid card created specifically for Gen Z, allowing teenagers to spend, receive and manage money completely cashlessly. They can also earn rewards and interact with their friends on the app, and parents are even able to send money to their kids to cover expenses in a controlled environment. Zywa was inspired by the lived experiences of its co-founders. Alok Kumar (CEO) and Nuha Hashem (CTO) grew up in the gulf region and identified the pain points of young people who were stuck with borrowing their parents' cards or asking for cash to make payments. They recently raised $3 million in seed funding which they will use to fuel their growth in the UAE and expand into Saudi Arabia and Egypt. In this conversation on The Change Officer Podcast, Alok and Nuha share: Zywa's fascinating origin story Why they decided to leave their established career paths and focus fully on Zywa instead Their experience and the value they gained from being involved in the YCombinator accelerator programme How they sourced, pitched to and selected investors for Zywa How they are building their business and their product Why they were able to successfully partner with banks What a growth team is, the value it holds, and how they built theirs How they are gathering the data to build a product that truly meets the needs of its users Find Zywa online: https://www.zywa.coHost: Vuk Zlatarov

Led by Nuha Siddiqui Erthos is developing a compostable plant-based resin to substitute to serve as a drop-in replacement for petroleum-derived products in the manufacturing of single-use plastics. Nuha spoke to erthos's mission saying "erthos is our take on the combination of earth and ethos. We are creating plant-powered alternatives for traditional plastic inputs. We aim to make these substitutes both compatible with existing infrastructure and compostable at end of life. Our product replaces polystyrene and polypropylene in single-use applications such as cutlery. We are not trying to reinvent the wheel, but we are trying to make it more sustainable." Nuha elaborated on the company's go to market strategy saying, "We are working with large established manufacturers and aiming to launch our product next year. The end-use applications include bottle caps, food casing, and cutlery." Here is the transcript summary of the podcast. -- Entrepreneurs for Impact is the only private mastermind community for investor-backed CEOs, founders, and investors fighting climate change. What's in a language? In Malaysia, you are defined by the language you speak. Your community, your schooling, your mindset and your identity is all informed by what language you primarily speak. In school, this results in different "cliques." In real life, the implications are scarier. My friend, Nuha, who went to a Chinese vernacular school for her elementary education despite being of a Malay descent, dissects the nuances of language in Malaysia and it means to speak a language and not the other.
