Get ready for a bone-chilling dive into Wisconsin's haunted history as Host Lyle Perez explores ten of the state's most ghost-ridden locations. With Halloween just around the corner, it's the perfect time to delve into Wisconsin's eerie past, from luxury hotels and mysterious mansions to desolate cemeteries and asylums. Wisconsin may be known for its natural beauty and charming towns, but hidden within its landscapes are tales of spirits and lingering souls. So, sit back, turn off the lights, and join us as we journey into the haunted heart of the Badger State. Featured Locations: The Pfister Hotel, Milwaukee 424 E Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53202 Known for its luxury and Victorian charm, the Pfister Hotel is haunted by its original owner, Charles Pfister. Guests report lights flickering, electronics turning on and off, and shadowy figures roaming the ninth floor. Major League Baseball players who stay here have encountered unexplained furniture rearrangements and disembodied footsteps. It seems Charles Pfister is as watchful over his hotel in the afterlife as he was in life. Summerwind Mansion, Land O' Lakes West Bay Lake, Land O' Lakes, WI 54540 Once an opulent estate, Summerwind Mansion is a haunting ruin where spirits are said to linger despite a fire that destroyed the building in 1988. Former residents reported ghostly figures, whispers, and even a skeleton discovered in the basement. A spectral woman is still seen in the upper windows, adding to the eerie atmosphere of this infamous haunted landmark. Old Baraboo Inn, Baraboo 135 Walnut St, Baraboo, WI 53913 Built in the 1860s, this historic tavern is home to “Charlie,” a ghostly bartender, and other spirits who make their presence known with phantom music, laughter, and ghostly touches. The second floor, once a brothel, is especially active with flickering lights and whispers in the night. Visitors can still stop by the inn for a drink—and possibly a ghostly encounter. Dartford Cemetery, Green Lake Park Dr, Green Lake, WI 54941 Known as one of Wisconsin's most haunted cemeteries, Dartford Cemetery is famous for apparitions, whispers, and chilling encounters near Chief Highknocker's grave. Visitors report seeing a spectral little boy playing among the tombstones and cold, ghostly hands gripping their shoulders, making this spot a must-visit for thrill-seekers. Sheboygan County Insane Asylum, Sheboygan 3400 County Rd EE, Sheboygan, WI 53083 The abandoned Sheboygan County Insane Asylum, closed in the 1970s, is a hub of paranormal activity. Ghost hunters report hearing screams, whispers, and spotting shadowy figures lurking in the windows. Though trespassing is prohibited, the asylum's sinister reputation lingers, attracting those brave enough to sneak a peek. Bloody Bride Bridge, Stevens Point Highway 66, Stevens Point, WI 54481 Legend has it that a bride who died tragically on this bridge still haunts it, appearing to drivers as a figure in a blood-stained wedding dress. Some drivers see her in their rearview mirror, sitting in the backseat. The bridge is notorious for paranormal sightings, making it a chilling drive for those daring enough to cross. Brumder Mansion, Milwaukee 3046 W Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53208 Built in 1910, Brumder Mansion is now a bed and breakfast filled with ghostly tales. Guests report the laughter of unseen children, phantom footsteps, and the figure of George Brumder himself wandering the halls. Stay overnight for a unique experience and perhaps leave with a ghost story of your own. Maribel Caves Hotel, Maribel County Rd R, Maribel, WI 54227 Locally called “Hotel Hell,” Maribel Caves Hotel has burned down multiple times and is rumored to contain a portal to the underworld. Ghostly figures, strange mists, and a faint smell of smoke greet visitors to the ruins, making it a notorious site for paranormal investigators. The Grand Opera House, Oshkosh 100 High Ave, Oshkosh, WI 54901 The Grand Opera House in Oshkosh, dating back to 1883, has seen numerous ghostly sightings, including a former stage manager who watches over performances. Staff and guests report phantom applause, Victorian apparitions, and cold drafts in the auditorium. It's a historic theater with a haunted twist, perfect for fans of the paranormal and the arts. Old Carver School, Carver Historic Schoolhouse, Carver, WI Abandoned for decades, the Old Carver School is said to be haunted by a former teacher. Visitors hear children's laughter, footsteps in empty halls, and the unnerving sense of being watched. This haunted schoolhouse is a reminder that some teachers stay dedicated long after the final bell has rung. By now you've probably heard that our good friend Heidi Parkes is the 15th Artist in Residence at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee. I talk about Heidi like everyone knows her, and if you've been in my world for very long, I'm sure you've heard me talk about her. We are both former public school educators turned professional artists and have been friends for almost a decade now. If you're not familiar with Heidi's work, she documents her life in her quilts, tracking days, places, and memories through applique and embroidery. In this conversation, Heidi gives us an inside glimpse to this new residency. It's something she's tried out for 3 times before and never got it. She decided she'd take a break for a while, and just when she did, something unexpected happened: they reached out to her. *WHY LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE?*Listen to this conversation if you ever:① applied for something and didn't get it ② have an interest in setting up a public studio, or ③ are looking for a creative transition in your own life*CONVERSATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS*04:04 Heidi's Studio Practice05:03 Transition to Public Studio05:29 The Pfister Hotel Residency06:55 Previous Artists in Residence09:30 Reflections on Rejection and Persistence15:52 The Studio Space at Pfister22:04 Interacting with the Public27:06 Expectations for the Residency30:00 Preparing for the First Public Event*REFLECTION PROMPTS*1. *Perseverance in Art:* Reflect on a time when you faced rejection in your creative endeavors. Mookie Betts won't be staying at the supposedly haunted Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee with the rest of his Dodger teammates
Welcome to the neighbor of our home state and our bitter rival, Wisconsin. Today, we travel to the best city in that state, Milwaukee. In this beautiful city by the lake, we get to a hotel that has been around since the late 1800s, the Pfister Hotel. This hotel has more stories than there are rooms in the hotel, and a lot of them around Baseball, which made Davis very happy.Listen to Davis get overly happy about the amount of baseball tie-ins that Jake brings to the party. Listen to Jake tell so many personal stories, that even have some IG stories behind them. And listen to Lisa as she gets into a history that is filled with an intense amount of angles.Jake, Lisa, and Davis may insult the great state of Wisconsin more than they should, but we still had a great time visiting this cheese-and-beer-filled state! Hope you are not lactose intolerant, because this difficult could get difficult for you. But more than likely, you'll just have a good time, as we get through the 97th episode of The Possibly Paranormal Podcast. Join Dr. Ed as he tries to keep it together as Dr. Evan discusses the haunting of the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Ed also tells us about the pretty horrific story of the Monte Cristo Homestead in New South Wales, Australia. Are you a fan of cryptids? Dr Ed updates us on the chupacabra showing up in Michigan (not really), Bigfoot showing up on Google Earth (also not really), and a ghost who wants to deny him coffee. Please give us a listen and share with your friends!
My guest today and I worked together in Club Med Cancun in 2004/2005 with Hendel. His first season was in Club Med Sandpiper in 2004 as a Waterski G.O. Originally from Chicago and now living in Austin, Texas, please help me welcome, Parker Burke! Before Club Med, Parker obtained a degree in Business Management with a Minor in French. He even did a semester abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France in 2002 (and we never talked about this during our season in Cancun!). After Club Med, he got a Master's degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management. You could say hospitality is in his blood because his maternal grandfather owned and operated the historic and opulent Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee. Parker had his first meeting with Club Med in New Jersey and when it came to the talent portion of the audition, he did something so weird and wild at that interview, that people requested he do it at each different village he worked at (if you don't know, then please listen!). Parker worked for Club Med from 2004 to 2007 and worked in the resorts of Sandpiper, Cancun and Ixtapa. It wouldn't be a My First Season interview if we didn't talk about hurricanes and Parker had quite his share of them. Ever the optimist, he acknowledges that if it were not for Hurricane Wilma, he never would have met his future wife in Sandpiper in 2005! Parker has always had an extreme personality so lately, he has gravitated towards trail and ultra running. I ask Parker why anyone would run a 50k for “fun” and he is kind enough to answer my many questions on that subject. We talk a lot about Parker being a Waterski G.O. and how rewarding it was for him to teach disabled water skiers, moments he will cherish and never forget. We end the interview with Parker telling us the three things he misses the most about Club Med. **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. This week, Charlie is joined by the hosts of the “And That's Why We Drink” podcast and authors of the new book “A Haunted Road Atlas: Sinister Stops, Dangerous Destinations, and True Crime Tales” Em Schulz and Christine Schiefer. They discussed their fascination with paranormal and true crime stories. Christine and Em outline their individual careers before ATWWD. Christine worked as a staff writer for Nickelodeon and Em shares some deep dark secrets from their time working on “The Price is Right”. The three talk about their shared experience staying at the notoriously-haunted 5-star hotel in downtown Milwaukee, The Pfister Hotel, and other interactions with ghosts.
The Pfister Hotel sits three blocks from Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and once advertised itself as the only fireproof hotel in the city. The hotel was built to be the "Grand Hotel of the West" and it really was a gorgeous hotel with Victorian artwork, beautiful chandeliers and gold trim that still exist. This started as the dream of one man and was completed by his children. Today, guests can experience a lavish stay and perhaps even a few bumps and creaks in the night. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of the Pfister Hotel! The Moment in Oddity features Lady Wonder the Psychic Horse and This Moment in History features The Ra II Expedition.
