Welcome to The B-Side! Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today we talk about one of the most successful performers of all time: Eddie Murphy! Our B-Sides include: Metro, Holy Man, Life, and I Spy. Our guests today are filmmaker and returning guest Nicholas Gray and incredible actor Alvin Keith. We discuss Eddie's stratospheric rise, the perceived failure of the underrated Harlem Nights, and his underwhelming ‘90s output. In 1987-1988, Eddie's stand-up special Raw was one of the most financially successful theatrical releases of the calendar year. There's the tonal strangeness of Metro, the fact that Eddie is not the lead of Holy Man, the subtle brilliance of Life, and the tired, cynical result that is I Spy. We talk about how Eddie only ever auditioned for Saturday Night Live as an actor, as well as his famous moment at the Academy Awards in 1988 in which he called out the lack of Black representation. There's this great quote from Carmen Ejogo about working with Eddie on Metro: “He was utterly charming but... did he tell me this? He gets told, "There's this script, it's a bit shitty, are you interested?" "No, not really." "Well, you know, we're going to give you $30 million to do it." "Yeah, all right then." And that's where he's at. He's not doing it to be the next Poitier. It is what it is for him, and that's what he's like on set. He's just showing up and getting paid, whereas I was like, ‘What's the motivation here?'” We debate Eddie's inherent softness (and also his edge) and how it works to his advantage, him turning down Rush Hour in favor of Holy Man, and his music career!
TVC 732.5: Actress and novelist Denise Nicholas (Room 222, In the Heat of the Night, Freshwater Road) talks to Ed about working with Sidney Poitier as a director three times (and how she particularly relished the comedic roles she played opposite Poitier and Bill Cosby in Let's Do It Again and A Piece of the Action); how she first met Carroll O'Connor long before they starred together in In the Heat of the Night (and before O'Connor came to mentor Denise as a writer); why she enjoys writing literary fiction among all other genres; and how Denise has "a little Norman Lear in her" as a writer. Denise's memoir, Finding Home, and her novel, Freshwater Road, are available wherever books are sold through Agate Publishing and Amazon.com. Denise Nicholas is also one of the six authors—along with Denise Billings, Otto Stallworth, Jr., GW Williams, Hattie Winston, and Charles Floyd Johnson—whose work is featured in A Gathering of Voices: The Longwood Writers Workshop, an anthology of vibrant, introspective, lyrical, and personal stories that provide a full, rich, and multidimensional look at life in Black America. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Lilies of the Field is a 1963 American comedy-drama film directed and produced by Ralph Nelson. Poitier won the Academy Award for Best Actor, becoming the first Black actor to win in a leading role.
E por que, em 2026, No Calor da Noite ainda parece tão atual?• 04m11: Pauta Principal• 1h14m17: Plano Detalhe• 1h21m24: EncerramentoOuça nosso Podcast também no:• Spotify: https://cinemacao.short.gy/spotify• Apple Podcast: https://cinemacao.short.gy/apple• Android: https://cinemacao.short.gy/android• Deezer: https://cinemacao.short.gy/deezer• Amazon Music: https://cinemacao.short.gy/amazonAgradecimentos aos padrinhos: • Bruna Mercer• Charles Calisto Souza• Daniel Barbosa da Silva Feijó• Diego Alves Lima• Eloi Xavier• Flavia Sanches• Gabriela Pastori Marino• Guilherme S. This week, Shat The Movies heads into the Pacific Northwest wilderness with Shoot to Kill, the late-'80s thriller that blends serial killers, mountain survival, and peak "competent adult movie" energy. Starring Sidney Poitier, Tom Berenger, and Kirstie Alley, this 1988 sleeper feels like the kind of grown-up studio thriller Hollywood simply doesn't make anymore. Gene and Big D break down Poitier's no-nonsense authority, Berenger's quietly unhinged menace, and Kirstie Alley's refreshingly capable romantic lead. Along the way, they discuss outdoorsy masculinity, Reagan-era law enforcement vibes, and why this movie works so well despite flying completely under the pop-culture radar. Is Shoot to Kill an overlooked gem of '80s thrillers—or just a solid, workmanlike chase movie elevated by great casting and real stakes? Lace up your hiking boots and find out. Encore! Encore! This December Janet, John, (and Pen) wanted to revist the astounding life of the director of A Warm December, an extremely talented actor, activist, and diplomat... Sidney Poitier! Born in Miami, Florida on February 20th in 1927, this Bahamian-American actor changed the game for black actors forever in the motion-picture industry by becoming the African American to win the Academy Award for best actor and the first Black movie star. Even though he seemed destined for the stage and stardom, Poitier worked hard to amass such a massive career in Hollywood. He got his start in the American Negro Theatre after applying for the second time after a previous rejection because of his accent (which he worked on changing to American pronounciation for six months). While studying acting, he made his Broadway debut in Lyrsistrata in 1946. His first film role was as Dr. Luther Brooks, a hospital's only Black doctor who treats a bigoted white cirminal, in No Way Out (1950). His refusal to play into racial sterotypes helped create inroads for Black people into American media culture. He later starred, worked in, and directed many films such as, Porgy and Bess (1959), A Raisin in the Sun (1961), and A Patch of Blue (1965), A Warm December (1973), Uptown Saturday Night (1974), and Stir Crazy (1980). He also went onto winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for Lilies of the Field (1963). He also received a Grammy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and a British Academy Film Award! Want to share your thoughts about the podcast? Text a Message!Enjoy this bonus podcast interview with Actor, Stuntman, and Storyteller, Damion Poitier!I loved how he shared the indescribable connection he has with his beloved Sammi; as well as his passion for honoring horses and all that they've done for us and continue to do. I can't wait to you to listen! PLEASE click here for the fundraiser page and the full story. Here's what Damion wrote:"Hi, I'm Damion, and this is Sampson or as we call him Sammi. Sammi saved me, and I need your help to save him. With your support we will make a documentary, not only about his treatment, but the immense effects these fascinating creatures have, and have had, upon humanity, and how we can be better custodians for them.So how did we get here? Three years ago I was in the midst of a very challenging assignment. The beginning was creatively and financially rewarding, but as time went on the challenges began to outweigh the creative output, it started to take its toll on my mental health. My wife, a lifelong equestrian, saw this and started what can only be called a quest. Seven months of daily searches, trying to find the perfect companion for me, something large enough to carry me without difficulty but also engaging enough to form a bond... And she succeeded beyond anyone's wildest imagining.Sammi saved me.The things I learned about myself and the methods I developed to be a good companion for him also served me. and I was able to better navigate the demands put upon me. For two years our bond flourished and grew. Things were good and getting better. But entertainment is a fickle business and circumstances rapidly and dramatically shifted. My efforts to ride out the reduced opportunities were only successful with familial support, then things took an even worse turn.Sammi fell ill.Sammi was diagnosed by two different vets with PSSM1 and DSLD. Now there are treatments available that can potentially help however they are not certain and quickly become costly. And so I come to you. Now one thing I try to be very aware of when I reach out, is what do I offer when I ask, and this is a pretty big ask so I wanted to figure out a pretty big offer.I have been in the entertainment business for 25 years and worked on a wide variety of projects at all levels. What that gives me is access to everyone I need to put together an amazing documentary series, not only about Sammi's recovery, But the importance and influence these majestic beings have had on humanity as a whole. In just the time since I began working on this the amount of things I have uncovered about their influence is staggering. They are so universal to human advancement, the very unit by which we measure mechanical energy is called Horsepower.Horsepower; and we start with Saving Sampson. Thank you.You are allowing me to honor a gift I can never repay. And to show a being of pure love how much he is appreciated. Now this project is evolving, and the scope is very dependent on the response, so you are going to want to check the socials often to see what we are building to.Thank you so much for joining me as we saddle up, Together we are Saving Sammi."~~~~~~~~~~Thanks for listening! Please write a review if you're inspired!
For our Series 5 finale, we're talking about the history and folklore of England's largest county, and Eleanor is telling a story so epic we've split it into three ridings! Or, should that be three parts?!We start off chatting about St Hilary of Poitier, a right pain of a saint known for his pedantry and not much else, after which we yomp on to Yorkshire and get a bit literary! We discuss all sorts to do with the county's past, not least the legacy of the Brontë Sisters, Whitby and its enduring Goth Weekend, and its claim to possess England's oldest pub, and plenty else, all before Eleanor offers up a silver platter of tasty County Dishes, including Yorkshire Pudding, Ilkley Cakes, and, of course, Parkin. As for folklore, interspersed with some excerpts from next Saturday's Local Legends interview with Yorkshire-based folklorist, author and musician Paul Weatherhead, we talk about UFO abductions, demonic cats guarding treasure on lonely hilltops, screaming skulls, greedy dragons, lumbering giants, and much more besides. Then it's on to the main event: the first third of Eleanor's sharp-clawed mystery story, "Old Stinker."Fingers-crossed you enjoy the episode, be sure to check out the second part of Old Stinker tomorrow and its conclusion on Wednesday, and we'll also be back on Thursday with the first episode in our new Bonus Series Magus, about the legendary life of King Solomon, all before the full Local Legends chat with Paul comes out on Saturday! The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays (Magic and Medicines about folk remedies and arcane spells, Three Ravens Bestiary about cryptids and mythical creatures, Dying Arts about endangered heritage crafts, and Something Wicked about folkloric true crime from across history) plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcast Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Sidney Poitier was a trailblazing actor, film director, and diplomat who achieved numerous significant accomplishments throughout his career. As the first African-American to win the Academy Award for Best Actor, he made history with his powerful performances in films such as "Lilies of the Field" and the 1967 classic, "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." Poitier's impact extended beyond the silver screen, as he used his influence to challenge racial stereotypes and advocate for civil rights. In 2009, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his contributions to American culture, and his legacy continues to inspire future generations of actors and activists. We're going to hear Sidney Poitier being interviewed by Bill Parkhurst on the radio show Between the Lines in 1981. More at KRobCollection.com
The couples paired up in Martin Ritt's 1961 musical drama Paris Blues were more than just smart casting. Real life married paramours Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward play Ram and Lillian, a jazz musician and the woman he falls in love with him. Damion Poitier is an American actor and stuntman, best known for his role as Chains in Payday 2. He made an uncredited appearance as Thanos in The Avengers, the character's first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has also had roles in Captain America: Civil War, Star Trek, Jarhead, and Never Die Alone. Poitier played Cenrari 7 in one of my personal favorite movies “Hunter Prey” along with his breakout role as GoldFace on the hit CW television series, “The flash.”
SEASON 2 - EPISODE 101 - WILLIE BURTON - PRODUCTION SOUND MIXER On this episode of the Team Deakins Podcast, production sound mixer Willie Burton (OPPENHEIMER, LOVE & BASKETBALL, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION) joins us to talk about his career and the world of audio. We learn how Willie's love for all things audio began as a teenager in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and drove him to hitching a ride with a visiting minister out to California to pursue a higher education and deepen his knowledge in the field. After a string of odd-jobs and an engineering career in the sonar division of the Long Beach Naval Shipyard, Willie weathered years of rejection before gaining admittance into the sound union, becoming the first African-American in the local's history, and finally began his long career in film and television. Throughout the episode, Willie remembers those who helped him advance in his career; among them fellow trailblazer Sidney Poitier, who gave Willie his first break sound mixing a feature on the Poitier-directed LET'S DO IT AGAIN. Willie later shares how he likes to prepare for a film, and we discuss some of the challenges Willie faced recording sound on OPPENHEIMER and TENET. Towards the end of our conversation, we ask Willie if he's ready to hang it up, and we also learn about Willie's involvement in a new educational program in Kansas City exposing young men and women to the world of filmmaking. - This episode is sponsored by Aputure

The Dank Diplomat Ngaio Bealum is back on OMFYS and he's picked a pair of movies to get high to from Criterion Channel's current series HOLLYWOOD CRACK-UP: THE DECADE AMERICAN CINEMA LOST ITS MIND. First, LEE MARVIN is punching dudes in the nuts and throwing them out of high-rise windows all to get his $93,000 back in POINT BLANK (1967). It's heavy on the testosterone but has lots of psychedelic and French New Wave touches from then-young director JOHN BOORMAN, who went on to make some of the trippiest movies ever made with EXCALIBUR (1981) & ZARDOZ (1974). Also starring Angie Dickenson, Sharon Acker, Carrol O'Connor (Archie Bunker), and introducing John Vernon (Dean Wormer from Animal House). Then SIDNEY POITIER is a prison psychiatrist trying to unravel the twisted psyche of a deranged but dangerous nazi played with menace by crooner BOBBY DARIN. This movie is chock full of the tripped-out dream sequences that we live for on this podcast, all set to an awesome jazz theremin score by Ernest Gold and photographed with intensity by Ernest Haller, the man who shot GONE WITH THE WIND and REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE. This is the forgotten collaboration between producer Stanley Kramer and Poitier, who also made THE DEFIANT ONES (1958) and GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER (1967), but Bob thinks PRESSURE POINT is their best. And if all that ain't enough, we've got a young PETER FALK thrown in here for good measure. Both movies are now streaming on CRITERION CHANNEL, which is really knocking it out of the park these days. Welcome back to The Video Store Podcast, where we dust off the shelves of cinematic history to bring you some of the most engaging flicks you might have missed or perhaps want to revisit. Today, we're diving into a selection of films where action, suspense, and unforgettable characters light up the screen in ways only the '80s could manage, with a slight spillover into '89. So, grab your popcorn and let's get into it.First up, we have 'Shoot to Kill' from 1988. This one's a thrilling mix of wilderness adventure and crime drama, starring Sidney Poitier in his return to cinema after a decade away. Poitier plays an FBI agent on the trail of a killer in the rugged Pacific Northwest, and what makes this film stand out is its breathtaking scenery coupled with intense action. The dynamic between Poitier and Tom Berenger, who plays a mountain guide, adds a memorable layer to the story. It's a film that combines the beauty of nature with the tension of a chase, making it a unique entry in the thriller genre of its time.Moving on, 'The Soldier' from 1982, takes us into the heart of Cold War espionage with a plot that feels like it could have been ripped from today's headlines. It's a spy thriller that delves into the concept of a rogue KGB element trying to ignite World War III. What's fascinating about 'The Soldier' is its raw portrayal of international espionage and the lengths to which individuals will go to prevent global disaster. The film, though not widely known, showcases some innovative action sequences for its time and a plot that keeps you guessing. Then there's 'L.A. Takedown,' directed by Michael Mann in 1989. This film is actually a precursor to Mann's later, more famous work, 'Heat'. While 'L.A. Takedown' might not have the star power of its successor, it shares a similar story: a master thief and a seasoned cop on a collision course. The film was originally made as a television pilot, and its tight pacing and gritty portrayal of Los Angeles crime scene offer a fascinating glimpse into Mann's evolving style. For fans of crime dramas, it's a must-watch to see the early foundations of what would become one of the genre's classics.Last but not least, we turn the spotlight to 'Streets of Fire' from 1984. This film is a rock & roll fable, blending action, music, and a neon-lit aesthetic into a unique cinematic experience. Directed by Walter Hill, it features Diane Lane as a rock singer kidnapped by a biker gang, leading to a rescue mission that's as much about explosive action as it is about electrifying music. The film's tagline, "A Rock & Roll Fable," perfectly captures its essence, offering a mix of genres that creates a distinct vibe you won't find anywhere else. Each of these films brings something special to the table, from the natural beauty and suspense of 'Shoot to Kill' to the early exploration of themes Michael Mann would further develop in 'L.A. Takedown'. 'The Soldier' gives us a glimpse into Cold War tensions with a spy thriller twist, while 'Streets of Fire' offers a musical, action-packed journey unlike any other. Whether you're revisiting these titles or experiencing them for the first time, they each offer a unique slice of cinema that's well worth your time. That's it for today's episode. I hope you find these recommendations intriguing and give these films a watch. Until next time, keep loving movies, and remember, there's always something worth watching at The Video Store.Subscribe to the Video Store Podcast* The Video Store Podcast* Apple Podcast* RSS This is a public episode. Redmond, a Detroit native now based in Toronto, has been captivated by the world of film since his early years. It was during his 8th-grade English class when the timeless classic "A Raisin in the Sun" became the catalyst for his passion. The course not only delved into the book but also screened the iconic film adaptation starring the legendary Sidney Poitier. It was at this moment that Redmond's love affair with cinema began. As he grew, films impact deepened, prompting him to pursue a formal education in the craft and earn his Film and Video Production Certificate from George Brown College in Toronto. Driven by the profound influence of Poitier's work, Redmond aspires to follow in his footsteps and leave a meaningful mark on the world of film, hoping to contribute positively and make an impact just as cinema has done for him. Welcome to It's A Wonderful Podcast!! We always love coming back to Sidney Poitier on this show, and finally, this week, Morgan and Jeannine take a look at the movie that won him his Best Actor Oscar; LILIES OF THE FIELD (1963)! Poitier acts as a wandering prophet, unknowingly answering the prayers of a group of nuns who want to build a chapel in the desert. What results is a warm-hearted, optimistic movie of community, togetherness and religious fulfilment that forced Morgan and Jeannine to wonder why this was the movie that won him the award above many other more intense, powerful roles and movies! CHRISTMAS ADJACENT 4: QUADRUPLING DOWN ON OUR LEAST POPULAR SPECIALS!Happy Holidays from all of us at The Good, The Pod, and The Ugly! We bring you three films that reference Christmas a few times but are in no way "Christmas Movies" filled with the spirit of the season and all that shot. Nope. It's "Christmas Adjacent" and, given our downloads for these, no one likes them but us! #1 (LUMP OF COAL): INVASION USA. Conceived by, and starring, Chuck Norris as the only man who can fight off a US invasion completely centered in Florida (take it, please!). This is a nasty, sadistic film that, in 1985, broke with Norris' normally whitebread heroism and suffered a bit initially because of it. It didn't do too much in theaters but, we Americans and our love of being scared by any sort of Other about to take away our liberty knows no bounds and it became one of the best-selling VHS tapes ever as a result. It has a guy who kills dudes by jamming his gun down the front of their pants. A highwater mark for cinema! Ken brought this to the office Christmas party because he is a sadist. #2 (YOU WERE GOOD THIS YEAR!): SNEAKERS (1992). A smart, purely entertaining ensemble techno-heist classic that holds up! Redford, Straitharn, Poitier, Phoenix, Akroyd, Kingsley, McDonnell are all part of one of the best-oiled team movies ever made. It is ridiculous how fun this is. When films like this go off like clockwork it makes you wish all films would spend as much time as this one did in development cracking the plot. Thomas brought this one to the Christmas potluck and is a champ for it. #3 (A FEW LOSING SCRATCH-OFF LOTTERY TICKETS FROM UNCLE PHIL): LONG KISS GOODNIGHT (1996), which breaks our "no Shane Black" rule but that is ok. We did Dial Code Santa last year which pretty much broke our other rules. As the song in I Think You Should Leave says, There's No Rules. Made from a script that someone paid FOUR MILLION DOLLARS for. If you thought a female-centered action movie starring the beautiful Geena Davis (who hadn't and still hasn't ever opened a movie) and Samuel L Jackson directed by a Finnish man who, yeah, directed Cliffhanger, but also Die Hard 2 and The Adventures of Ford Fairlaine, curiously cribbed from Robert Ludlum and cheap paperbacks by a depressed Shane Black, would be a resounding success off a 90 million dollar budget, pack your bags and move to Hollywood! A studio somewhere needs you to fail big with the crap you greenlight and receive a golden parachute when it is sold to Pepsi. Erik brought this one to the community caroling event and makes a few arguments in its favor. Happy Holidays in whichever way you celebrate. And if you don't, they are Christmas adjacent so these are right up your alley because they don't have much to do with Christmas other than what time of year they take place (spoiler: December). Hilary of Poitier was a Bishop in western France in mid-fourth century. He is one of the first Trinitarian Theologians who would be able to pass later orthodox standards. He plays a very interesting role in the history of the fourth century. We mention Athanasius of Alexandria, Arius of Alexandria, Constantius, Constantine the Great, Julian the Apostate, Martin Luther, John Calvin, Michael Servetus, Karl Barth, and more.
For the next two episodes, we'll be looking at films whose only commonality is their title. In this episode we're screening two films titled No Way Out. In the first half, it's the 1950 version starring Sidney Poitier in his feature film debut, along with Richard Widmark, Linda Darnell and Stephen McNally. Poitier is a doctor who runs into race issues and a medical complication during his first night in a new assignment. The issue snowballs until there's a full race riot going on. Poitier's character comes up with an interesting tactic to prove he did the right thing that first night, but it nearly backfires on him. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wordsandmovies/support
"Sneakers" is to Dick Ebert as "Hackers" is to Gene Lyons. This 1992 thriller doesn't have flashy graphics, funky fashions or a techno soundtrack—but it does have Ben Kingsley, Sidney Poitier, Dan Aykroyd and Robert Redford. In loafers. With its playful tone, low barrier to entry and established cast, this gateway thriller appeals to the familiar to explain the cutting-edge. And Big D likes that. "Sneakers" also has unexpected jokes, serious schemes and nostalgic tech. And Gene Lyons likes that. But the movie isn't perfect. Among its flaws are a cavalier treatment of a superweapon, potential abuse of a blind character, unimaginative demands and a smidge too much predictability. Eleanor of Aquitaine or Aliénor d'Aquitaine as we call her in French is a woman who wanted to rule. She lived through pretty much all the of 1100s and to be both a woman and a ruler, she had to go against the grain at every turn. By birth she was a Duchess, which is as high as any woman could get. But she wanted to more. How did she become a Queen of both France and England? What surprising decisions did she have to make? Find out by listening to this episode of the podcast. Eleanor spent a lot of her life in Poitiers, the city most associated with her name. She is buried at the Abbaye de Fontevraud where she lays next to Richard the Lion Harted, her favorite son. Because of her marriage to Henri II who became King of England, she brought a lot of the western half of France into the possession of the English King, which is one of the things that led to the Hundred Year War. She inherited Aquitaine because her brother died and in the custom of the south of France she was next in line. Eleanor of Aquitaine marries Louis VII Eleanor's life had a rocky start. Before he died, her father married her off to Louis VII of France because they were close in age and she needed to be spoken for before his death. But Eleanor and Louis were a bad match. She was too flamboyant for him and they did not get along. It took her 8 years to get pregnant with her first daughter. Soon after the birth of this first child, the couple went on a crusade together and during that crusade she wrote to the Pope to ask for an annulment. The Pope did not grant the annulment and asked them to work things out. She got pregnant again and had a second daughter and then Louis VII also wanted an annulment because she was not giving him a son. The annulment was granted after 15 years of marriage and two daughters. Marriage to Henry II of England Eleanor had met Henry II while she was still married to Louis VII and had fallen in love with him. After her annulment she decided to marry him despite the fact that he was 10 years younger than her. They were married 8 weeks after the annulment, proving once again that she knew what she wanted. This is a period in her life where she gave birth to a lot of children, only 1 of 10 died at a young age which was impressive at the time. These were also the days of troubles with Thomas Becket and the terrible turmoil this caused in English history. Imprisonment and outliving her husband Henry II had Eleanor imprisoned at various chateaux towards the end of his life. He was trying to get her to stop plotting against him, but it didn't work very well. He got sick and died and Eleanor of Aquitaine finally got to rule parts of England and France late in life. Her son Richard was only preoccupied with the crusade and left his mother to make many decisions. But Richard died soon after coming home from a crusade and Jean sans Terre (John, King of England) became the King. He was her least favorite child and she wasn't happy that he became king, but in the end she supported him. Despite her tumultuous life, Eleanor of Aquitaine was the mother, grandmother, or great-grandmother of all ruling families in Europe. She left an enormous life on the history of England and France.
