In this episode Gary Mansfield speaks to Sara Prinsloo (@saraprinslooart) Sara Prinsloo is a Sheffield based artist exploring her own mental health and lived experiences through art. “My art is a journey into an unconventional adolescence and those ‘things' that just stay with you forever. The aim is to make sense of my own life experiences: dealing with grief, coming from a working-class background and the impacts of being reckless as a youth.” Anger and frustration is an emotion often at the forefront of Sara's work. Raising topics of class insecurities, anxiety, toxic labelling, in the aim to re-think negative emotions and open up conversations of why they exist in the first place. In 2019, Sara created the @itsokayproj which provides a platform for others to share their mental health experiences, whilst celebrating the creative ways we express ourselves. By publishing zines, working with over 100 contributors and hosting workshops, she has been able to help defeat negative stigmas in relation to mental health. The project was set up in memory of her sibling. Sara was shortlisted for the 2023 Cooper Prize in Barnsley and her work can be seen on display at the Cooper Gallery until April 2024. Gavin's Profile on Amazon advises he was “Born in Port Elizabeth in South Africa in 1968, I was raised in the beautiful coastal city of Cape Town receiving my schooling at Bergvliet High School in Cape Town, I matriculated in 1985. I was raised by a foster family from the age of four, as a result of our family fracturing, During the compulsory two years of military National Service, I joined the permanent force in the middle of 1987, attaining the rank of Sergeant. I served until 1995, then entered the private security industry, eventually the Logistics industry, and ended up owning a small logistics business in 2016. Suffice it to say, I was NOT a good businessman, and the company folded, as it was also heavily impacted by the worldwide pandemic, where, like so many worldwide, I lost my livelihood, my self-respect, and I think, my sanity. In December 2019, I was diagnosed as bipolar, and to be honest, I think that was the best thing that ever could have happened.I started writing as a catharsis, but eventually, it became a way of life for my everyday expression. I wrote about 1300 pieces from poetry to flash fiction during 2020 and 2021 and decided to publish them on Amazon. Reviews may be harsh as I am not an English expert, I tend to create viscerally, and in many genres. All I can really say as a writer is that if any piece of my writing touches you in any way, I have succeeded in some way of affecting someone's life. Writing has become my passion. I hope some of that passion reflects in my work if you should read any of my books. To date, I reside in Tableview, Cape Town.” His books can be bought on Amazon and he can be found on Tiktok (tiktok.com/@tiktoktok_35)

Veteran journalist and Author Arlene Prinsloo interviews the legend that is Jeffrey Archer regarding his latest book. About the book: London, 1988. Royal fever sweeps the nation as Britain falls in love with the ‘people's princess'. Which means for Scotland Yard, the focus is on the elite Royalty Protection Command, and its commanding officer. Entrusted with protecting the most famous family on earth, they quite simply have to be the best. A weak link could spell disaster. Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick and his Scotland Yard squad are sent in to investigate the team. Maverick ex-undercover operative Ross Hogan is charged with a very sensitive – and unique – responsibility. But it soon becomes clear the problems in Royalty Protection are just the beginning. A renegade organization has the security of the country – and the Crown – in its sights. The only question is which target is next in line… About Jeffrey: Jeffrey Archer, whose novels include the Clifton Chronicles, the William Warwick novels and Kane and Abel, is one of the world's bestselling authors, with sales of over 275 million copies around the world. Famous for his discipline as a writer who works on up to fourteen drafts of each book, Jeffrey also brings a vast amount of insider knowledge to his books. Whether it's his own career in politics, his passionate interest in art, or the wealth of fascinating background detail – inspired by the extraordinary network of friends he has built over a lifetime at the heart of Britain's establishment – his novels provide a fascinating glimpse into a range of closed worlds. A member of the House of Lords, the author is married to Dame Mary Archer, and they have two sons, two granddaughters and three grandsons. He splits his time between London, Grantchester in Cambridge, and Mallorca where he writes the first draft of each new novel. About Arlene: Arlene Prinsloo is a veteran journalist, who has worked for Netwerk24, Rapport, Die Burger and Beeld in a career spanning 30 years. She has covered royal news as a blogger for Sarie and Netwerk24. Prinsloo lives in Cape Town.

Aim-listed Sylvania's Dump Operations (SDO) achieved a solid production performance of 67 053 oz of platinum, palladium, rhodium and gold (4E) platinum group metals (PGMs) for the financial year ended June 30. This was in line with its production targets and notable given that it was a turbulent year with macroeconomic challenges, CEO Jaco Prinsloo says. “A key contributor to achieving this result was the stellar performance of the Tweefontein plant, which achieved monthly, quarterly, six-monthly and annual production records during the period. “Furthermore, and no less stellar, our Doornbosch plant achieved ten-years lost-time-injury-free in June and was awarded the 'Best-in-class Safety Performance' commendation by the Mine Metallurgical Managers Association of South Africa,” Prinsloo acclaims. “Strong effort was put in by all production teams and the newly commissioned [milling and flotation (MF2)] circuit at Lesedi, as well as the improvement in run-of-mine (RoM) PGMs grade received from the host mine in the last half of the year, assisted the group to deliver ounces in the mid-range of its stated production target,” Prinsloo adds. The new Lesedi tailings storage facility was successfully commissioned during March, with optimisation of the Lesedi MF2 plant continuing. The MF2 expansion at Tweefontein is on track to start commissioning and to start contributing PGM ounces during December. Following the successful roll-out of MF2 and ultra-fine screening circuits at various operations since 2017, this technology is now also being implemented at Lannex, with commissioning scheduled towards the end of the 2023 calendar year. For the period, Sylvania achieved net revenue of $151.9-million, group earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation of $82.8-million and a net profit of $56.2-million. It had a positive group cash balance of $121.3-million with no debt and no pipeline financing. Sylvania bought back 6.6-million shares in the market, equating to $7.1-million and cancelled six-million shares. The lower PGM feed grades and recovery potential associated with the considerable increase in opencast RoM sources during the period impacted on both PGMs production and operating costs for most of the year. The effect of high global inflation and economic uncertainty continues to impact the cost of reagents, fuel and transport. “Clearly, commodity pricing has been more volatile than we have seen for some time, with a 23% decrease in the average basket price received, which impacted our overall financial results for the year. However, looking forward I am optimistic about the uptick displayed in the chrome market. “The impact of higher global cost inflation is inevitable, and we continue to maintain prudent cash management with disciplined capital allocation and control, as well as production cost control. “This ensures that the company remains in a position with sufficient cash reserves to cover working capital for the pipeline period, finance capital projects, fund growth and exploration and mitigate any potential future adverse impacts it may face,” Prinsloo outlines. Sylvania has declared a yearly cash dividend of 8p an ordinary share for the full year. A windfall dividend of 2.25p an ordinary share was declared and paid in April. “Looking ahead, I am confident that our operations will continue to deliver a strong production performance and, as a consequence, [we] have set an annual production target of 68 000 oz to 70 000 oz [of 4E PGMs] for the year ahead,” informs Prinsloo. Back-up power supply systems will be implemented at the three most affected operations during the next year to mitigate any potential power supply disruptions associated with either vandalism of power supply infrastructure or potential load-shedding by national power utility Eskom. Post-period end, all of the conditions precedent for the sale of 100% of the shares in, and claims against Grasvally Chrome Mine, to Forward Africa Mining, have...

Have you ever pushed down parts of yourself to fit in? I'm guessing we all have. What if you're a person of colour? How does that complexify the story? Today's guest is executive coach Kanchan Prinsloo. You'll hear how Kanchan learned to fit in, because true belonging didn't feel accessible to her – neither in society, nor in her own family. Kanchan learned to “perform” vulnerability, connection and belonging. She created a “second self” that felt acceptable and believable. Maybe then she'd feel enough. But pushing down her truth (and the secret she was hiding) felt too much, and Kanchan realized that true belonging meant exploring who she REALLY was, under the façade of the performer and the “fitter-inner.” Now in her mid-50s, Kanchan is owning her story – much of it for the first time, here on the pod. She's still in the mess of the process, which is precisely why I invited her to speak to us. She offers practical tips for “women of culture” to help navigate their own explorations. Poignant and thought-provoking. Selfdood? Of bloot 'n fratsongeluk? Bestel Vlam deur Sidney Gilroy by goeie boek- en aanlynwinkels. Ook as e-boek beskikbaar. Christianity is no longer the dominant worldview of the West. So how do we follow Jesus in a society that is walking away from him? Is it possible to live in a way that engages with and blesses the culture we find ourselves in whilst honouring the way of Jesus? What are some of the challenges and opportunities we have in a post-Christian, post-truth world? Does how we live even matter any more? In this seminar, recorded at The Cause to Live For 2021, Amy & Paul discuss the invitation of Jesus to our generation and why the hope of the gospel is as important as it's ever been.

This is episode 36 and its time to return to Xhosaland. Before we do that, let's step back a little and consider the effect of action beyond Africa that was having an influence on the continent, particularly the southern reaches. Adam Smith may have been somewhat bemused, as American historian Noel Mostert writes in his book frontiers, to find that the very year in which his masterwork was published saw the start of a struggle on the seas that rested on his own declared twin pillars of global destiny – America and the Cape of Good Hope. The American colonies were in the process of being lost to Britain as Smith published his work – and a wider war was buffeting the seas. The Cape had been drawn into the American War of Independence which changed the destiny of Southern Africa. It's not well remembered these days, but as America's early history is interwoven with South Africa's. As all of this was taking place on the high seas, the colonists in the Cape found themselves at war on two fronts with two different groups of people. The Xhosa and the San. As the Dutch East India company feebly tried to stop trekboers from advancing beyond the Gamtoos river near Algoa Bay, a true frontier had developed from 1770 onwards. It was a loose, ill-defined area along the south east coast and the Dutch colonists had now hit a human barrier that stopped their freedom of movement. That barrier was the Xhosa people.
