Send us a textPathological jealousy, Sandbanks, Dorset murder. This case dates from 1972, it is an unknown case, I can find no information about it online. The information comes from files in the National Archives. The podcast is told in one take and there is no editing. I think there is some frog and sparrow noise in the background. I will attempt a change of subject matter for the next pod.

But not if you complete the entire trip on a bicycle, which is what former Everton defender Sylvain Distin has just done! Big Sylvain biked up to 90 miles every day for 10 days to raise money for families affected by the crisis in war-torn Ukraine. Officials in southern England have declared a "major incident" after thousands of people flocked to local beaches.Bournemouth and Sandbanks, in Dorset, were hit particularly hard as crowds came to enjoy the hottest day of the year so far, according to a statement released Thursday by local authority Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council.Despite advice to stay away from the area, it was overrun with cars and sunbathers, leading to gridlock, illegal parking and anti-social behavior. By Thursday morning, more than 40 tons of waste had been removed from the coastline.Council leader Vikki Slade said she was "absolutely appalled" by the scenes."The irresponsible behavior and actions of so many people is just shocking and our services are stretched to the absolute hilt trying to keep everyone safe," said Slade in the statement. "We have had no choice now but to declare a major incident and initiate an emergency response."The UK is slowly easing its coronavirus restrictions and groups of up to six people are allowed to meet up outside in England. However, the sheer number of sunseekers caused huge problems.Illegally parked cars obstructed roads, and the council handed out 558 parking enforcement fines -- a daily record.Rubbish crews also suffered abuse and intimidation as they tried to remove mountains of rubbish from the seafront, according to the statement, and there have been a number of incidents involving excessive alcohol and fighting. In response there will be extra police patrols, security provided for rubbish crews, and more parking enforcement.Authorities also found people camping illegally overnight. They were evicted and seafront rangers will carry out extra patrols as a result.Slade implored people not to visit the area and likened the scenes to a public holiday."We are not in a position to welcome visitors in these numbers now or to deal with the full range of problems associated with managing volumes of people like this," said Slade. "PLEASE do not come. We are not able to welcome you yet."Assistant Chief Constable Sam de Reya, of Dorset Police, also called on people to stay away from the area, explaining that the extra measures activated after declaring a major incident will only go so far."We are also reliant on people taking personal responsibility and strongly advise members of the public to think twice before heading to the area," she said."Clearly we are still in a public health crisis and such a significant volume of people heading to one area places a further strain on emergency services resources."Parts of the UK are preparing for a further easing of lockdown restrictions on July 4, but there have been other signs that members of the public are increasingly flouting the rules.Overnight into Thursday, at least 22 police officers were injured and emergency vehicles were damaged in London after a street party descended into violence. And on June 13 several thousand people attended two illegal raves near Manchester, northern England, and three stabbings, a rape and an overdose death were reported between the two events.

The boys return from their respective family holidays to commiserate on how dang hard it is to do family holidays! They compare vacation notes, from cottages to shacks, from Sandbanks to the glorious wonders of Lake Simco beaches. Ryan and Crofton then get down to brass tacks and discuss some geekery - namely Persona 5 and Fire Emblem Three Houses, asking the question that nobody has the guts to address: "Were they separated at birth?"
Simon Tolson has had his fair share of highs and lows to get to where he is now in hospitality. An early high point was his first paid day as a fisherman. Since the age of 3 he’d wanted to fish and he felt like an astronaut when he stepped onto the deck…. But several years later, now married and with a mortgage, he had to switch careers. He left the sea for a surprisingly different job - selling printers and photocopiers for Pitney Bowes. That led to a new high, because the sales skills Simon developed not only worked for office equipment. They came in handy when he turned his attention to holiday homes. It was the early noughties, and there were generous tax breaks if you were renovating a property as a holiday let. Simon and a colleague began to build a new business, offering holiday homes as promising investments. So far, so good. But then in 2007, everything changed…. In this programme you’ll hear how Simon worked his way out of the prolonged low that followed… And how, despite challenging odds, he’s now the proud owner of Rumsey Holiday Homes, with beautiful views of the sea and the occasional chance to fish...

It was during a chance visit in 2000 that Catherine Langlois fell in love with Prince Edward County, a rural peninsula that pushes out into Lake Ontario about an hour west of Kingston. Catherine had also fallen in love with the art of wine-making while working in the world-renowned vineyards of Burgundy, France, an opportunity she took while studying hospitality management in Montreal. Catherine, who grew up on the south shore of Quebec City, got a Farm Loan, sold her home and bought 15 acres of land near the town of Wellington. She traded in her red motorcycle for a blue tractor and went about planting and building what was only the fourth winery in Prince Edward County; that number now tops 40. Sandbanks Winery started by selling 4 wines to local restaurants, but Catherine opened the store when it became clear there was a growing demand for her wines. Sandbanks is now a commercial success with 19 products listed at the LCBO, Ontario’s Liquor retailer. Sandbanks Winery is also the LCBO’s fifth top supplier of VQA wines, which are wines made from 100% Ontario grapes. Catherine was recognized as the Quinte Region’s Remarkable Woman of the Year in 2017 for helping to put the region on the map and playing a vital role in boosting the region’s economy and its stature as a tourist destination.

At 35 Benjamin Wilson appeared to have it all. A financial trading maestro he was the local boy made good, living in a £4 million mansion in Sandbanks and able to spend most of his time on the golf course. However, this was all a facade. His world came crashing down when it became clear that he was in fact running a classic ponzi fraud. Although on a much lesser scale than Stanford and Madoff, this financial crime caused devastation in his local community as some victims of the crime lost everything they had worked for all their lives. Now serving time in prison, this podcast tells the story of Benjamin Wilson.

In this episode of Informed Choice Radio, Martin talks about what happens when your defined benefit pension scheme goes bust. There is also a roundup of the latest personal finance news and an update from the world of Informed Choice. What happens when your pension scheme goes bust? Retail giant BHS going into liquidation is clearly bad news for its 11,000 employees, but what about the 20,000 members of its pension scheme? There are around 6,000 defined benefit pension schemes in the UK. The majority of these are in deficit, which means they don’t have enough assets to cover their liabilities. The latest estimates suggest it would cost £571m to fully cover the BHS Pension Scheme liabilities, using insurance or a buyout. That money simply isn’t there, so what happens to members of the BHS Pension Scheme? There is a lifeboat scheme in the UK, it’s called the Pension Protection Fund. This was established to pay compensation to members of eligible defined benefit pension schemes, when there is a qualifying insolvency event in relation to the employer and where there are insufficient assets in the pension scheme to cover Pension Protection Fund levels of compensation. In this episode of Informed Choice Radio, Martin explains how the Pension Protection Fund works, who pays for it and what level of compensation the members of bust pension schemes might expect to receive. Personal finance news update -The most expensive seaside town in the UK is Sandbanks in Dorset, closely followed by Salcombe in Devon. -Older investors appear to be holding their nerve ahead of the EU Referendum, with almost three quarters not changing their investment strategy since the vote was announced. -The final design for the new £5 bank note has been revealed, before it enters circulation on 13th September. -Bond giant Pimco has warned that a "radical" political party taking power in the eurozone could tear the bloc apart. -Department store giant BHS is going into liquidation, after attempts to find a buyer for the stores failed. -A vote to leave the European Union could result in a 10% fall in the value of the FTSE 100 index during the next year.
