Welcome back to the Mind Movement Health Podcast! In this enlightening episode, host Kate Boyle sits down with special guest Amy VanLiew, an expert in helping women over 50 build bone strength and improve their health through specialized fitness programs. Amy shares her journey from a corporate engineer to a health coach and personal trainer, highlighting the importance of strength, low-impact cardio, Pilates, and posture. The discussion dives deep into osteoporosis and osteopenia, offering invaluable insights into building and maintaining bone density through resistance training, starting as early as your 20s and 30s. Amy also provides practical tips on how to incorporate strength training safely, emphasizing the importance of mobility, flexibility, posture, and balance. Discover key advice on when to start thinking seriously about your bone health and the benefits of consistent, mindful exercises. Plus, learn how to handle stress and its impact on physical well-being. Whether you're already experiencing bone density issues or looking to prevent them, this episode is packed with advice and encouragement.   Connect with Amy: Even as your aches and pains of age can start to creep in, Amy helps women over50 get moving through online workouts and specialized programs designed for just what we need-strength, low impact cardio, Pilates, balance, posture and more. What's different from traditional workouts (often geared toward people in their 30s) is that hers will leave you feeling good, not beat up. That way, you can “be healthy...enough” to do all the things you love to do in life! After retiring from a 26-year career as an Engineering Program Manager, Amy carved out a space in her life to pursue a greater passion for helping others. She knows that it takes time and effort to be healthy without aggravating the aches and pains that naturally come with age. She pursued extended education to focus specifically on what women over 50 struggle with including a certification in Integrative Nutrition, Menopause, Arthritis and Osteoporosis Fitness, Myofascial Release using the MELT Method, Corrective Exercise with The Biomechanics Method and has just completed an intense Pelvis Pro course with Dr Sarah Duvall. Along with filming new content for her digital fitness studio, Amy loves spending time at home with her husband and 2 furry kids, and continually expanding how many women over50 she helps get moving and feeling better! It was my first understanding in how diet, stress, and environment can have a major impact on our health."Heather - "Hi! I'm Heather and have been teaching Pilates since 1999. I am a Mother of 2 boys and I own this wonderful business where I get to help people find their groove again. After my first was born, I healed my Diastasis Recti and pelvic floor using the methods I have learned through Pilates and other DR work. After my second, I was so busy with the first, I had a much harder time healing my DR. After 3 years and still not loving the way everything looked, I dove deeper.I lift, CrossFit, and practice Pilates. My core was strong, but after having two babies late in the game (my first came when I was 37 and the second right before I tuned 40), I lost more elasticity than I was willing to admit. The work I had done was working to a point and halting.I found Sarah Duvall's Postpartum Exercise Specialist Certification program and through what I have learned from her and my own experience, I have been developing a system to help mamas heal their pelvic floor and Diastasis, help answer those embarrassing questions as to why I pee when I jump, and empower these mamas to feel strong and beautiful."Connect with Clare and Heather on Facebook and Instagram @mamacarecomplete or check them out on their website at www.mamacarecomplete.com.------------------------------------------------------Ready to get your toddler to listen in 2 seconds?Heather has her M.Ed, and a proud Twin Mama of busy toddlers. Welcome back everyone!2021 Didn't start the best way but things seem to be improving, so hopefully by summer time everyone will be able to go out and have some sort of normality for a change. We start 2021 a little bit late with a new season but I wanted to take some time to gather different topics that could bring some motivation and knowledge to your day. Season 3 is here and I cannot wait for you to listen to more amazing people. Today we have Grace Sisto, a yoga teacher that reflects calm and serenity along with some powerful information for anyone interested in starting yoga for the first time, or as a new mom and for mamas that would like to start their yoga journey. Also to any mama that would like to know how yoga could benefit their pregnancy journey as well as their motherhood journey.During Grace's pregnancy, she trained in Pre and Post-Natal Yoga, a practice which gives her immense joy to teach for the sense of connection and empowerment she's able to give back to women. One of the benefits of running a cash practice is the flexibility you have in running your own business: you decide how many patients you treat, the hours you work, and the price you charge. But what if you want more? Sarah Duvall is a physical therapist who found herself frustrated at the lack of accurate information available when she was trying to alleviate her own pelvic pain. After selling her second cash practice, she focused her energy on educating as many people as possible, and now she's helping millions with her courses and membership sites. Today, she joins Aaron to chat about the resources she's created for patients and PTs alike. She shares how she started -- and sold -- two cash-based practices before starting her online business, and how she leveraged email marketing before it was trendy. Sarah says one of the secrets to her success is being opinionated, so you'll hear exactly why she thinks it's so important to reach beyond the doors of a clinic to heal the masses. If you're ready to grow your reach and make your knowledge available, don't miss the advice she drops in this episode.   “The more opinionated I am about something, the more I tend to find my tribe.” -Sarah Duvall   What do you want to hear from the CashPT Lunch Hour? 069: Yoga with Pelvic Organ Prolapse with Dr. Sarah Duvall   After meeting physiotherapist Dr. Sarah Duvall through a webinar, Shannon knew that Sarah, through her expertise and passion for pelvic health, would make a great guest for an episode of The Connected Yoga Teacher, complimenting the series of episodes on pelvic health (links below).   In addition to her work as a physiotherapist who specializes in helping women recover from pelvic health issues, Sarah has experienced first-hand how emotionally and physically draining it can be to suffer from pelvic health issues when, following the birth of her child, she was diagnosed with Pelvic Organ Prolapse.   Sarah mainly works with women, specifically athletes and mothers, who need help with pelvic health issues including Diastasis and Pelvic Organ Prolapse. She was tired of seeing injuries that were entirely preventable; prolapse that worsens after birth, abdominal separation that just didn't heal, and back pain from women lifting their infants.   Dr. Sarah Duvall's goal is to help women exercise better. She sees many trying to back into shape after having a baby through jumps, crunches, sit ups, and other physically damaging workouts that impact both the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor. Sarah wants to empower women to build strength without getting hurt. She runs online courses for moms who are recovering from pregnancy and childbirth as well as those tailored to professionals who are working with pre and postnatal students.   Sarah defines Pelvic Organ Prolapse, the importance of breath awareness in relation to pelvic health, prolapse prevention, and advice for yoga teachers on how to support and accommodate those with prolapse.   4:30 Sarah's journey to becoming a Pelvic Health Specialist   5:40 Sarah defines Pelvic Organ Prolapse   8:20 Breath and pelvic health   14:00 Using your sitz bone to check-in with your breath and pelvic floor (a good exercise to teach your students)   18:10 Who is most susceptible to Pelvic Organ Prolapse   23:00 What it feels like to have Pelvic Organ Prolapse   25:40 Different types of prolapse   26:30 Other breath practices Sarah recommends for teaching yoga, including breathing through transitions   30:45 How yoga teachers can help students in class who've been diagnosed with prolapse   33:55 Is breath holding damaging to pelvic health and the importance of giving women hope they can resume their physical activities   37:00 Sarah's personal experience with Pelvic Organ Prolapse; the challenge of healing, relapses, and the emotional impact the diagnosis and treatment   43:15 Other considerations when you have a student with prolapse   44:05 How to recognize if you're straining or bearing down through kinesthetic awareness and the importance of checking in throughout the yoga class   47:15 What Sarah wants to tell yoga teachers and those teachers who are dealing with Pelvic Organ Prolapse themselves   48:15 How to get in touch with Sarah and her other offerings   49:20 Shannon's key takeaways Links   Email: sarah@coreexercisesolutions.com   Sarah's Website: Core Exercise Solutions   Course for Healthcare Professionals   Courses for Moms: Pre and Post Natal Pelvic Health Care   Dr. Sarah Ellis Duvall on Facebook   Core Exercise Solutions Youtube Channel   Printable PDF about Pelvic Organ Prolapse   Relevant TCYT Episodes:   007: Breath and Pelvic Health with Trista Zinn   008: Core Breath and Pelvic Health with Kim Vopni   009: Kegels, Mula Bandha, and Pelvic Health with Shelly Prosko   033: A New Perspective on Diastasis Recti with Sinead Dufour   The Connected Teacher Facebook Group   Book a Consultation Call with Shannon   Yoga for Pelvic Health Teacher Training with Shannon Crow Gratitude to our Sponsor Schedulicity
