Today with Roger Magalhaes Welcome to Window Treatments for Profit! There's a difference between someone who just puts up blinds and a true professional window treatment installer. Today, I am chatting with Roger Magalhaes, owner of Shades in Place, Inc., about what it takes to be a true pro in the business. The Breakdown: [1:30] Roger shares the story of his journey in the window treatment business [12:34] LuAnn tells a story of an install gone bad [17:14] Roger talks about the importance of professionalism in the industry [21:50] Roger breaks down his upcoming training opportunities and resources The Ah-Ha Moments “It isn't just a hammer, a drill, and a nail or a screw. There's a nuance to the art of installation.” -LuAnn Nigara   “It is one of the reasons I don't really subcontract work anymore. I'd rather refer and let them do it their way and say you can hire this guy, but you are totally responsible for it. Some people don't understand that it's not your job—you are working for someone else.” -Roger Magalhaes   “I don't think there's anything wrong with subcontracting professionals, as long as they subscribe to a high degree of accountability and professionalism. And that's what you're doing, and that's what's exciting.” -LuAnn Nigara More About Roger Magalhaes Roger started in the window coverings industry in 2006 as a part-time installer for a national chain. After only two months, he was asked to leave for “standing out.” Clients continuously requested him over the other installers, and this didn't sit well with his colleagues. Following this experience, Roger traveled all over the country acquiring training from companies like Somfy, Hunter Douglas, Norman Shutters, and Lutron. He also attended the Custom Home Furnishings Academy for formal installation training focusing on drapery and other soft treatments. Roger is the owner of Shades In Place, Inc, located in the Boston area with over 600+ 5 star reviews. He is the founder of the Facebook group Free Speech Window Covering Pros with over 1000 members, a regular columnist for Window Fashion Vision magazine, a presenter at the International Window Coverings Expo, the Installation Instructor for the Window Fashion Certified Professional FastTrack program and he sits on the board of directors with WCAA National. Em 2020, Roger found a second business: Trading Up Consulting with focus on Installation Training for Window Treatment Professionals. We've reached the final episode in our six-part series exploring the benefits of the ProduKtive System, our proven method for applying The ONE Thing to your life, such that by doing it, everything else becomes easier or unnecessary. Sometimes, good habits are all you need, but getting them to stick can be easier said than done. Let's explore how we can build them into our lives with intentionality. Chances are, you've heard the idea that all you need to make seismic changes in your life are a few good habits. Many of us roll our eyes and dismiss the notion. If you want to lose weight, it's easy to say, “Just form the habit of working out.” If it was that easy, you'd already be as fit as a pro athlete. The secret to all of this is that it actually is that easy. You just need to know what habits to form to get you from A to B. More often than not, that takes breaking down both cause and effect. What are the reasons you're not achieving or maximizing your goals? What can you do to change that? That's where our habit building should focus. And that's the topic of this episode of the podcast. For more information on exactly how we can all build simple habits into our lives that allow us to really focus on our ONE Thing, visit the1thing.com. Imagine teaching prenatal yoga for years and envisioning how your birth will unfold. Then learning that your baby is breech and despite many attempts to turn baby head down, you will need a cesarean birth. This is what happened to Christa.  In episode of Yoga|Birth|Babies, I speak with founder of KITH & KIN, yoga teacher, and new mother Christa Nader. Christa shares how she wrapped her mind around changing her birth plans and how she prepared for her cesarean birth. Personally, my biggest take away from this conversation was how beautiful and powerful Christa's birth was. We discussed how cesarean is often seen as “the ugly step sister” in the birth world and the need to change that perception. Support Our Sponsors: Hello Fresh: America's #1 meal kit! There are so many traps we can fall into that justify why we can't stop and plan our futures out properly. Maybe we're too busy. Maybe it's impossible to see the future with any worthwhile clarity. Maybe we work for an organization and it's not our vision that's being implemented. Or maybe it's just far too easy to stay attached to the way things used to be instead of having to imagine a whole new potential. If any of this sounds like you, then you should know that it's so much easier than you think. A few simple adjustments will allow you to become actually productive instead of just busy. Casting a proper vision is the only way to make sure we work towards your ONE Thing instead of accidentally making our way to the wrong destination. But to start with, let's take a look at the lies of productivity.Do you consider yourself to be a good multitasker? Is your instinct to tackle everything at once? If so, you're falling for the same myths so many people are tricked by when it comes to productivity. Studies show that we waste 28% of our time spent while multitasking. She also reveals what to do prenatally to enhance your chances of being one of those fortunate people with a well balanced body and a functional birth. (Hint: prenatal yoga is a pretty smart choice!)  So if you ever wondered why some births are fast and furious while others slowly putter along, this will shed some light on that and give actionable takeaways to help find that delicate balance between baby and the passageway within the parent's body.  Support Our Sponsors:  Somfy: Learn more about Somfy powered motorized window coverings, or connect with a Somfy dealer in your area to get a customized quote for your home by visiting somfysystems.com/podcast Boober: Looking for a  lactation support, birth doulas, mental health therapists, and postpartum doulas. Use the code PYC to get 10% off your first service at www.getboober.com  Get the most out of each episode by checking out the show notes with links, resources and other related podcasts at:prenatalyogacenter.com If you love what you've been listening to, please leave a rating and review! Yoga| Birth|Babies To connect with Deb and the PYC Community:  Instagram & Facebook: @prenatalyogacenter Youtube: Prenatal Yoga Center Learn more about your ad choices. As a childbirth educator, I am thrilled that I see so many people putting thoughtful effort into learning about their options for birth and thinking about their birth values. Unfortunately, the same rigor is not often put into postpartum education. Not just how to change a diaper or feed your newborn, but the emotional rollercoaster of postpartum, and the messiness of parenthood. In this episode of Yoga|Birth|Babies, I speak with Doctor of Clinical Psychology and a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Dr. Jane Shomof. Jane and I discuss the importance of postpartum planning and as well as recognizing the difference between postpartum anxiety versus postpartum depression, and postpartum OCD. Jane also shares how she sees society's expectations of new parents can play into the struggle many new parents experience. Do you know the questions you should ask to ensure a happy, fulfilling, and lasting relationship? More importantly, do you know who you ask them to? (Hint: sometimes, the correct answer is yourself). Conversations are the backbone of a relationship, but that doesn't mean we know how to have them. Whenever one stops working, it's a safe bet that it's because of a breakdown of communication, be it not ensuring each other knows what's expected of them, or simply allowing a disconnect to take hold. Friend of the show and New York Times bestselling author, Susan Scott, founded Fierce in 2001, after 13 years of leading CEO think tanks and over 10,000 hours conversing with senior executives led her to realize that, while no single conversation is guaranteed to change the trajectory of a career, business, or life, any conversation can. This led to her sharing her valuable knowledge in the form of the Fierce book series, starting with the award-winning Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success at Work and in Life, One Conversation at a Time. Now, she's turning her insights toward the world of romance with the upcoming Fierce Love: Creating a Love That Lasts, One Conversation at a Time, so she joins us to lay everything out there: where do we go wrong in our love lives and what can we do to align them with our ONE Thing?THE ONE THING TO IMPLEMENT FROM THIS EPISODESusan Scott's philosophy is to take things one conversation at a time, but to really maximize what we get out of each one. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
