This week I'm pleased to introduce you to Darcy Hegarty on Chit Chat Across the Pond. Darcy is a fellow screencaster for Don McAllister's ScreenCastsOnline and I'm really impressed with the videos he creates. They're tight, they tell a coherent story, and he even starts with the problem to be solved! I started chatting with him about his process and discovered that he's only been doing this for a short while. I also found out that he has a far different process for creating his screencasts than I do, so I asked him on the show so he could teach me how he does it and you get to learn along with me. You can find connect with Darcy by emailing him at darcyh@oceanfire.studio and follow him on Twitter at @sensible_of

Michael Potter is the Executive Producer of For Mac Eyes Only, and the organizer of the annual Macstock Conference and Expo. Mike's love-affair for all things Apple began in his Junior High's Library playing Lemonade Stand on a pair of brand new Apple ][+ computers. His penchant for Apple gear continued to be nurtured by the public school system when, in High School, he was hired as a lab supervisor to help run the Apple ][e lab for his fellow students and their Print Shop needs. Then, further still, in college he often opted to help a friend with her Computer Graphics coursework instead of focusing on his own studies, but only because it helped get him closer to the Mac-lab. While we were in Las Vegas for CES, we carved out some time to have dinner with our good friend, JF Brissette, who is also the editor of all of my videos for ScreenCastsOnline. He brought his daughter Lila to dinner and she started talking to me about her journey of discovery into accessibility on Apple devices. I asked her to come on the show to talk about her perspective on accessibility as a young person without any disabilities. She's delightful and intelligent and I really enjoyed seeing these topics through her frame of reference. If you'd like to connect with her, you can find her on LinkedIn as Lila Brissette.

This week I asked Don McAllister, owner of ScreenCastsOnline to come on the show to talk about how he automates the production of his video tutorial podcast business. We start at his humble beginnings as a new convert from Windows with a Mac mini and a monitor, up to and including a global workforce with automated workflows. He's even moved his Mac Pro into MacStadium so it's a resource for his back end production folks. I must do a disclaimer that I do screencasts for Don's show, which means I have a conflict of interest in telling you how awesome it is. We try to stay to the technical parts of the show production but we're both so enthusiastic about the service it's hard to avoid talking about the quality of what Don and his staff creates. We hope you'll join us during Apple's March 25th event in our chat room at podfeet.com/chat. My latest ScreenCastsOnline tutorial is on the awesome blogging tool MarsEdit. We attended CSUN’s Assistive Technology Conference and I've got an overview of what we learned along with interviews with Assistivewear about Proloquo2Go, their AAC App, and Ocutech low vision aids, and I'll tell you about QD Laser's retinal projection eyewear called Retissa. Mixed in with all the CSUN talk we've got a review by Allister Jenks about SleepPhones (he calls them pajamas for your ears)) and I've got a review of the Ampere Unravel and Qi charing case for AirPods. It's a fun-filled, action packed show!

Wally Cherwinski reviews the very few guidelines for the submissions, and then provides both information and inspiration on how you can create something that will be shown on the Macstock screen. Drawing from his experience as a videographer, Wally’s tips on using your iPhone and/or Mac to tell your story, and what that story might be, will have you up and running in no time. Wally Cherwinski has authored a new book targeted at making video creation more approachable...and he has hit the mark! Video To Go is for anyone who wants to create engaging video, but doesn’t want to get mired down in technical details. While Wally provides some specific ideas about how to shoot, he also teaches you how to think about what your final product will look like, and what to shoot to get there. He discusses the use of cutaways, changing angles, looks, and why you no longer need expensive video gear to succeed. This edition of MacVoices is supported by our Patreon campaign. Things To Eliminate in the Coming Year and Tips for Successful Resolutions Be sure to subscribe in iTunes and leave a review in the iTunes store! It helps others find the show! Thank you! Main Topics Dan's Topic: Some Things to Eliminate in the Coming Year I'm not a big "New Year's Resolutions" guy, so in keeping with the Exupery quotation I've discussed in previous shows and use to guide me on our simplicity journey, I thought I'd give resolutions a little twist. If you recall, Exupery said, "Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but nothing left to take away." So let's resolve to remove some things that add no positive value in our lives. Only you know what applies to you and what's right for you, but here are some suggestions for consideration… Stop wasting opportunities: Opportunities to grow are all around us Grow by Learning...Education is a great way to invest in yourself Take a class (online or in the real world)…lots of places offer Adult Education classes Or teach yourself! Check your local library to see if they have how-to or self help books Other Great Resources: Also check http://www.khanacademy.org for classes I watch CreativeLIVE.com for free courses given live by experts. After the live class is over the classes are available for purchase. Screencastsonline.com has great tutorials for Mac and iOS-based platforms. Run by Don McAllister Lynda.com has all sorts of courses, from business, photography, videography...the gamut of software for Mac, PC and others (you can also get 7 days free unlimited access here) Izzyvideo.com for video tutorials If you're a podcaster, Cliff Ravenscraft's classes are great! Find them at PodcastAnswerman.com and use discount code SIMPLE for up to $500 savings on Podcasting A to Z! I have or had paid memberships in all of these and see them as an investment in me and our businesses Grow by Experiences such as Volunteering Getting active in your children's school or after school activities Mentor someone in your chosen profession or a student studying for your profession If you belong to a church, see if your church needs help with something you're skilled at Stop letting what you already have go unused: The first thing that comes to mind is Experience and Expertise and that ties in with the opportunities to grow we just mentioned Look around and see if you are using technology to your advantage If you're not sure how to use some of your tech, there are tons of free How-To tutorials on YouTube to help out. Stop "holding on"…some stuff is just not necessary any more: If you have unnecessary "stuff" you can donate it, sell it, give it away to a friend or post it on freecycle.org (complete listing for all countries where Freecycle operates at SimpleLifeTogether.com/freecycle But there's probably more than "stuff" you need to get rid of... Bad habits Same old routines- If they're not working for you it's time to let them go Work situation: If you're ready for a change than check out Dan Miller's 48 Days Podcast Stop Letting Others Dictate How You Use Your Time: DVR your shows or "cut the cord" and watch online on sites like iTunes, Hulu, Netflix, in the US. Outside the US, just Google TV Steaming sites to find those available in your area, such as the BBC's iPlayer. Don't forget to check your local network sites to see what streams they offer, too. Another way to control your own time is to: Choose Podcasts over radio. Podcasts allow for time shifting your favorite content. You can listen to podcasts as your walk, run, work, commute, travel, do chores…whenever you want? Break free of the 10 to 20 minutes per hour devoted to advertising on commercial broadcasting stations. iTunes University has free college-level classes, tying into the education suggestion mention earlier.
