At 20 years, her flagship show, the NosillaCast Podcast, became the longest-running Apple-centric podcast. In the NosillaCast, she focuses on reviewing tech products with an EVER so slight Apple bias, while weaving accessibility throughout her content. She also co-hosts the Programming By Stealth podcast, where Bart Busschots teaches the audience to program through an audio podcast (with Bart's tutorial shownotes). Bart and Allison also hosted the podcast Taming the Terminal, which is a 40+ episode guide to the macOS Terminal, which you can also get as an ebook through Apple Books. She has a tech conversation show called Chit Chat Across the Pond, which currently comes out at least once a month with Adam Engst of TidBITS as her most frequent guest. She's a founding speaker at Macstock Conference every year outside of Chicago, and a frequent guest on the Daily Tech News Show and Clockwise podcasts. She is also a video screencast tutor for the subscription service ScreenCastsONLINE. She and her husband, Steve, produce video interviews from trade shows such as CES and CSUN's Assistive Tech conference. She's an avid exerciser, walking around 7 miles a day, and enjoys time with their dog Kepler, and two cats Ada Lovelace and Grace Hopper. Yes, their pets are all named after scientists! [Overview] Learn how to add alt text to social media images to make your posts accessible and inclusive. Allison Sheridan demonstrates practical tips for Slack, Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Discord, and more from her recent ScreenCastsONLINE demonstration. In this accessible tech tutorial, Allison Sheridan walks through the essential steps of adding alt text (alternative text) to images across popular social media platforms. You'll hear how screen reader users experience posts with and without alt text, highlighting why it's so important to include meaningful descriptions. Alison explores platforms like Slack, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Mastodon, and Discord, showing exactly where to find the alt text settings and how to craft descriptions that capture the feeling and context of a photo. She also demonstrates how AI tools such as Be My Eyes can help generate rich alt text automatically and shares a bonus tip on using Mona for Mastodon to streamline the process. Whether you want to make your content more inclusive or simply expand your reach, this tutorial gives you the tools to write clear, effective, and engaging alt text for any platform. Mike Schmitz returns to the Road to Macstock Conference and Expo to discuss his session, “Think Different: Using AI as Your Creative Copilot.” He explains how he uses AI not to automate the end product, but to enhance the early stages of the creative process—particularly brainstorming and idea generation. By reframing “hallucinations” as sparks of inspiration, Mike shares how large language models help overcome creative bottlenecks, reduce friction, and support consistency without sacrificing originality. He also highlights specific tools that allow independent creators to scale their reach more effectively and thoughtfully.  This edition of MacVoices is brought to you by our Patreon supporters. This week I'm pleased to introduce you to Darcy Hegarty on Chit Chat Across the Pond. Darcy is a fellow screencaster for Don McAllister's ScreenCastsOnline and I'm really impressed with the videos he creates. They're tight, they tell a coherent story, and he even starts with the problem to be solved! I started chatting with him about his process and discovered that he's only been doing this for a short while. I also found out that he has a far different process for creating his screencasts than I do, so I asked him on the show so he could teach me how he does it and you get to learn along with me. You can find connect with Darcy by emailing him at darcyh@oceanfire.studio and follow him on Twitter at @sensible_of
