Baricentro in Irlanda e in Europa, Leo Clancy, CEO Enterprise Ireland ci spiega come l'Ente supporta PMI innovative e startup nello sviluppo e globalizzazione.

He holds a BA in Philosophy, and a Masters of Library Science, and is currently working towards a PhD. in Education and Critical Studies.A 2021 Educause article showed that while many believe students who have grown up with technology are not concerned with the privacy for their data, research shows otherwise. A 2018 Pew Research Center survey found that almost all Americans 18 to 24 years old utilize social media, ranging from YouTube to Twitter. A 2019 Insider Higher Ed survey found that 46% of faculty taught at least one course online. As technology within education continues to grow, and the world becomes more connected through the internet, student privacy will continue to be a topic of discussion. In the U.S., specific laws and regulations aim to protect student privacy, such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).Learn more about CITI Program: https://about.citiprogram.org/

This month we're featuring Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Their laboratory in northwestern Ontario is the only regional acute care hospital for 48% of Ontario's land mass containing just 2% of the province's population. Despite courier and inclement weather delays, distance from major centres, and critical staffing shortages, this group is dedicated and ready to deliver every day. Their team worked hard to bring COVID-19 RT-PCR testing on board on 3 separate platforms, mitigating supply chain issues and test kit shortages. We spoke with Georgia Carr - Manager, Laboratory Services, Jim Uliana, Senior Technologist, Biochemistry, and Lyllian Stavropoulos - Specimen Procurement & Dispatch Coordinator, about their reflections one year after the onset of the pandemic. Season 2 of the Dish focuses on how labs have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some are rapidly ramping up testing and overcoming immeasurable odds testing for COVID-19, others are struggling or working on other testing while staff are re-deployed elsewhere. Join us as we follow one lab each month and explore how the pandemic is impacting labs across the province, from the patterns between to specific local situations.

Cybersecurity isn't an issue that can be dealt with simply by using technology. It's about working together to solve challenging puzzles, bringing together technology and people to solve complex problems. This week's guest on MindSET, Arlette Hart, Senior Technologist for Cybersecurity at Leidos, believes cybersecurity sits at the intersection between technology and people. For Arlette, if you want to protect against cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities, both technology and people have to work together. Of course technology is important, it creates an opportunity for us to better detect, sense and react to activities happening, and even predict them, but it also creates new challenges of having to then protect the things that you've just created. It's a vicious cycle. Joining Arlette in this podcast is MindSET host, Meghan Good, Cyber Solutions Lead for the Intelligence Group at Leidos. And what makes the conversation so rich is that, while they both have cybersecurity as their focus, including its challenges and innovations, they've come at it along very different paths. On today's podcast:Cybersecurity sits at the intersection of people and technologyThe various pathways to cybersecurity at LeidosThe biggest threat to cybersecurity todayThe advancements in cybersecurityThe impact of COVID-19 on cybersecurity

Prior to working for Pure, Cody worked at EMC and Penn State, where he graduated with a degree in Information Sciences and Technology. I have known Cody for a while now. He is the husband of the sister (Janice) of my daughter in law (Nicole). My son Anthony got to know Cody when he and Janice started dating him. Cody helped Anthony to find a job at Pure Storage. I got to know Cody through Anthony. Wow, that was hard to explain. Since getting to know Cody, we have spent a good amount of time together. We had Cody and Janice over to a VMware get together during VMworld Barcelona - where he had a great time connecting with VMware folks that only knew Cody through his blog. We have gone snowshoeing. Attended Cody and Janice's wedding. And have attended numerous family gatherings. Cody has been an early listener of my podcasts. He gave me feedback and now that he has become a manager, is perfect to have on the show! I hope you enjoy!
This episode we speak with Subbu Allamaraju. Subbu is a Senior Technologist at the Expedia Group. Topics include: Learning from incidents, changing culture, Why Complex Systems Fail, drifting into failure, forming a hypothesis, showing value from your reliability work, and the importance of understanding how your business makes money.
Far too often, as an industry, we (the cybersecurity professionals) tend to talk about security with other security professionals as opposed to a larger group of people outside of the industry. The challenge with this is that we end up missing out on driving a culture of security into the rest of the business, and we lost out on understanding how cybersecurity can help the business beyond keeping things from hitting the fan. Wouldn’t it be good if we could cross that bridge such that we all have a good picture for what’s important for the business — and ultimately for humanity and the societies for which we create? What if, for example, at the same that we’re researching and developing a new medical technology designed to improve the health of humans, we also look at the cybersecurity, cyberprivacy, and cybersafety elements of this new invention? What if we take that up one more notch to teach students at all levels that this is paramount and that these “cyber” elements shouldn’t be an afterthought, but part of the mindset and culture of each person and the organization for which they work? While I may be a bit aggressive — and may even be, perhaps, presenting a utopian view for which we are from realizing — these are some of the main drivers underneath a conversation I had earlier this year with Brendan Bonner, Chief Technologist — Technology, Content and Business Services at IDA Ireland, and John Durcan, Senior Technologist at Enterprise Ireland. I wanted to get their collective view on the state of technology, cybersecurity, and privacy in Ireland and the rest of the European Union in connection with other innovations and industries in which both entities invest heavily. You’re in luck with this podcast. Because we had such an engaging conversation, this podcast warrants two parts. One part for the drive/ride into work — the other for the return home. Part 1: The roles of IDA Ireland and Enterprise Ireland in the areas of innovation, technology and cybersecurity and the value of investing in cybersecurity education, talent growth, international policy, and binding ethics with technology and society. Some of the specific topics discussed: - Horizon 2020 in Ireland and Horizon Europe 2021-2027, which calls explicitly for ethical secure artificial intelligence - The synergies and collaboration between Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland - Collaboration amongst industry, academia, law enforcement, government, and the community - The launch of Cyber Ireland and other similar clusters designed to formally connect industry with the rest of the ecosystem - The launch of a government-lead disruptive technology innovation fund - The value of the R&D ecosystem in Ireland to drive meaningful connections between the human element and technology - Several examples of how different technologies — such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and blockchain — are being used to make an impact on society - Initiatives designed to improve the lives of the citizens, including those driven by smart city innovations - Ireland is positioned as a leader in the EU in relation to ethical development and use of artificial intelligence research and education Have a listen. ________ This episode of At The Edge is made possible by the generosity of our sponsors, Interfocus and Nintex. Garry Kasparov, Claudio Guarnieri, Geraldine de Bastion With this session, we aim to facilitate an informed and well-tempered debate that moves towards a better understanding of cyberwarfare, as well as other interferences within political processes – in doing this, we will highlight the multitude of new and troubling forms of “Hacking Democracy” that are by far not limited to the digital realm. Garry Kasparov (13th World Chess Champion, Oxford Martin Fellow, fierce tweep, Chairman for the Human Rights Foundation), and Avast Security Ambassador, and Claudio Guarnieri (Security Researcher with Citizen Lab, fierce tweep, Senior Technologist with Amnesty Technology and Security without Borders) will discuss the digital impact on human rights and fundamental values, and what can be done to keep up with these threats and the web of trade-offs that can endanger privacy, individual freedoms and overall security (though security is a complicated concept in itself). This session will not be limited to debating an individual state's role: as a Soviet citizen and a pro-democracy leader in Russia, Garry Kasparov has seen, up close, how governments use and misuse the control of information. Claudio Guarnieri extensively researched and reported human rights violations in the digital realm in many countries, including Iran and Azerbaijan, and even the U.S. The asymmetrical acceleration of information creation and the human ability to process and cope with it are one aspect of the debate. From spam to propaganda to phishing attacks, the huge amount of data we produce and share quicker than ever before is being used against us. Other aspects the debate will tackle are: • How can we sort through fake news and political propaganda? Where is the balance of corporate management, government regulation and individual empowerment? • Is technology agnostic? Our increasingly powerful tools can be used to either help or harm the causes of democracy and individual freedom. • Does maintaining privacy and security without repression or anarchy require a commitment to private, public and corporate engagement? And what does dedication to transparency mean in this context?
