»Éva ThiébaudAvec des contributions de : Tamara Bower, Christel, Katherine Davis, Françoise d'Eaubonne, Dominique Fauquet, Sarah Franklin, Claude Guillon, Sheila Jeffreys, Joris, Lola, Stanfield Major, Marie-Odile Marty , Elise Matthesen, Corinne Monnet, Annie S. Jules Louise was same-sex attracted, but more importantly she wanted to be a Good Person and “safe space for others” — so wound up married to a man. How did that happen? In this nuanced, heartfelt, and open conversation, Jules recalls her indoctrination into an ideology which destabilized her understanding of the world and herself, and her later emergence, along with that of her husband, detransitioned autogynephile Ray Alex Williams. We discuss Social Justice Camp, the Five Isms, hormones, polyamory, crossdressing vs dressing in crosses, internalized homophobia, Marxist Feminist analysis, the importance of material reality, phenomena, reconceptualizing vulnerability, and leaving the cult of gender for the cult of Taylor Swift. Plus: Cori correctly guesses the sex of a “they,” Nina is a cruel and horrible person who will never be invited to dinner at some people's houses, and a proposed TERF-Tranny Christmas in July! First up, hear the We the Women promo WLRN created for that gathering happening in the Pacific Northwest this summer. More info at https://www.wethewomen.world/. After the promo, we begin the show with a special 8th anniversary greeting from Thistle. Then, it is on to the world news with Mary O'Neill before we dive into our discussion of the Taylor Swift Phenomenon from the perspectives of Zinetta, Emily, KatyJean, and Jocelyn, and from the perspectives of authors Lierre Keith and Sheila Jeffreys. What a way to celebrate our 8th year together as a collective of media activist women! We are so blessed to have all of these amazing guests on our program to help us reflect on and understand ourselves better in the context of the Taylor Swift phenom and how it is impacting girls and women. We hope these discussions help us to make our OWN society of women speaking to women in an atmosphere of openness and mutual respect. So, it is a long edition, Edition 97. Three hours long to be exact and it is packed with feminist community content. We are proud to present three PSAs this month for upcoming feminist events. Kellie Jay-Keen will be in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 17th for a Let Women Speak event. Learn more at https://www.letwomenspeak.org/event-details/letwomenspeaknzjustice. There is also a PSA for Feminist in Struggle's (FIST's) first national conference. Learn more at https://feministstruggle.org/ about that event happening the first weekend in July near San Diego. WLRN is a place where we can take turns speaking and listening to each other to build ourselves up and into a movement powered by friendships and sisterhood. As Sekhmet says in her commentary this month, being part of a volunteer-powered collective is hard sometimes. Women don't always like each other or agree or get along, but at WLRN we have persevered because, as Sekhmet also says in her commentary, we are that loyal to the growth of feminism. After the discussions of Taylor Swift, you'll hear a new song by Thistle called "The Tide" that she wrote after listening to Taylor Swift's Midnights and Folklore albums and getting inspired. She recorded it live in her apartment studio with a little "meow" right before she rocked it! Emily also weighs in with a mini-commentary right before Thistle's song with some final reflections after the two discussions with our guests were completed. And finally, stay tuned as ever for Sekhmet SheOwl's commentary at the end of the show. Thanks for listening.

Corinna and Nina rant and complain about the current “Gender Critical” online discourse. What is a lesbian? Is Corinna gay, or homosexual? Is DARVO a floor wax, or a dessert topping? Although we perpetuate the problem by talking about it, by the end we propose a solution. You'll hear lots of misgendering, talk of Nina's sex-pozzie San Francisco days (again, sorry), and references to IQ points. You won't hear our usual intro and outro, because Nina had to edit this one while Corinna left town and couldn't send the files. Corinna and Nina answer your important questions, such as: what is a feminist? Should we be cheerful instead of angry? Who cuts our hair? Boxers or briefs? Is “cis” a slur? We also discuss the TERF-Tranny spectrum; our origins in a state fair livestock exhibit; the social benefits of taboos; Republicans' ability to eff up a sure thing; how social contagions are a force of nature; The Law of Conservation of Evil; iatrogenic infantilization; masculinized women; how 2nd-Wave Feminism is like broccoli; and Corinna's plans to start microdosing testosterone. It's truly a broad-ranging conversation, as we cover more territory than a costumed llama! What is a feminist? Journalist, author, and English badass Julie Bindel has opinions, informed by decades of work in the Women's Liberation movement. We discuss women who aren't feminists being mistaken for feminists, women denouncing feminism, far-right incursions into feminism, male protectionism, Political Lesbianism, kicking men in the nuts, separatism, homosexuality, butch-femme nonsense, bodyguards, Patriarchy, incels, and fake leftist men. Bindel passionately, intelligently, and articulately voices a Feminist position that will satisfy supporters, while supplying substance and heft for detractors to push against. Sheila Jeffreys, from the UK: "Can Human Rights as a concept survive?" Sheila Jeffreys is a lesbian feminist activist, author and academic. She became an active feminist in 1973 in the UK. She moved to the University of Melbourne in Australia in 1991 where she taught sexual politics and back to the UK on retirement in 2015. On behalf of WDI CN to publish this interview. 仅代表WDI CN转发此采访。 This interview is made by WDI CN with Sheila jeffreys. Below questions are discussed with Sheila: 1. In your autobiography Trigger Warning, as well as in many of your speeches, you described the heyday of political lesbianism in the 1970s, where women could go to women-only conferences, groups, cafes, and women's centers, and lesbians could spend all their non-work life in lesbian or at least women's company. Half a century later, in the name of trans rights, women are losing the single-sex spaces we've built for ourselves including online. We can't even agree on the definition of a woman, as whoever identifies as a woman today can be seen as a woman. Political lesbian pioneers like you wouldn't have imagined this situation back in your days. What do you think is causing this downfall of feminism? 2. In the 1970s, feminists commonly accepted that choosing to become a lesbian was a revolutionary act. It was easy then for many feminists to accept that their proclivities were constructed and subject to change. You said that this is not a particularly feminist insight. Social scientists developed the knowledge that human behavior, instead of being ordained by biology, was socially constructed. Today, in this very conservative time, the idea that sexuality is socially constructed dropped out of favor. Biological determinism reigns in terms of sexual orientation. In your opinion, why has that fundamental understanding of social constructionism been overturned? 3. Both in China and the West, many feminists claim that feminism has nothing to do with sexual orientation. They think being sexually or romantically attracted to men should not affect their worthiness as feminists, and that political lesbianism is repressive in that it constrains women's genuine sexual desires. Why do you think becoming lesbians is a political choice that liberates women? 4. When talking about the social construction of sexuality, you always emphasize that whatever's socially constructed can be changed, and that allows the possibility of revolution. You've shared your experience that back in the early 80s, you and other lesbian feminists conducted workshops at conferences on how to change sexual fantasies. You believe that sexual fantasies can certainly be changed or abandoned altogether. However, for many women, it's easier said than done, particularly when it's about getting rid of men from women's sexual fantasies. This partly explains why straight women are trying to downplay their sexuality, and lesbians find their heterosexual sisters untrustworthy. Would you mind telling us in detail how those workshops help women eliminate their undermining sexual fantasies? And if those methods may help a straight woman abandon her heterosexuality and embark on the journey of becoming a lesbian? 5. In your book Anticlimax, you define ‘heterosexual desire' as the eroticized inequality of power, and ‘homosexual desire' as eroticized sameness of power whether expressed within lesbian, gay or heterosexual relationships. You articulate that heterosexual desire can exist also in same sex relationships, because women and men do not escape the heterosexual construction of their desire simply by loving their own sex. In your later book Lesbian Heresy, you mention there are lesbians who eschew sexual practice altogether on the grounds that dominance and submission are too ingrained in how we feel about sex to be altered. You suggest the deliberate construction of ‘homosexual desire' as a different tactic to this deconstructive lesbianism, i.e., being as lesbians, but without sex... In 2014, Thistle Pettersen interviewed Sheila Jeffreys on community radio station WORT, 89.9 FM via the Access Hour. She wrote this song for the occasion that WLRN now plays at the end of each monthly podcast.
In this 59th edition of WLRN's monthly handcrafted podcast, hear Emiliann Lorenzen deliver the world news before enjoying the song "Girls" by Girl in Red. Stay tuned next for Mer Safina's interview with lesbian feminist scholar and activist, Sheila Jeffreys. Jeffreys talks about the social construction of our sexuality and what that means for women under patriarchy. Finally, don't miss Sekhmet SheOwl's powerful commentary on the topic, encouraging women to closely examine the ways in which our sexuality is used to reinforce male power. Thanks for tuning in to WLRN, community-powered radio collectively created for our sisters worldwide.
I talk to Sheila Jeffreys, we have hugely entertaining and inspiring chat! We talk about harmful beauty practices, the modern women's movement, transgenderism and what it's like to be a girl these days! Sheila is a former professor of political science at the University of Melbourne. An English expatriate and lesbian feminist scholar, she analyses the history and politics of human sexuality. " I am in the very fortunate position of having been able to contribute to two waves of feminism: The Women's Liberation Movement and the new wave that is taking place now. Trigger Warning: My Lesbian Feminist Life is both an engaging autobiography and a fascinating account of feminist history. From the heady days of the Women's Liberation Movement through to the backlash against radical feminism as neoliberal laissez-faire attitudes took hold. Fast forward to the current re-examination of feminism in light of the #MeToo movement and an emerging new wave of radical feminism.Sheila Jeffreys' bold account makes it clear that the feminism and lesbianism she has championed for decades is needed more than ever. With honesty and frankness, she tells of victories and setbacks in her unrelenting commitment to women's freedom from men's violence, especially the violence inherent in pornography and prostitution. We also learn what her steadfastness has cost her in terms of personal and professional rewards.Trigger Warning places radical feminism within a cultural, social and intellectual context while also taking us on a personal journey. Sheila Jeffreys has tirelessly crossed the globe to advance radical feminist theory and practice and we are invited to share in the intellectual and political crossroads she has encountered during her life.Accessible yet detailed and rigorous, this landmark volume is essential reading for everyone who has ever wondered what radical feminism really is." We've reached a small milestone in our team: 100 episodes of the FiLiA podcast. To celebrate this very special episode, I spoke with a few of the amazing women who bring life and magic to FiLiA - Lisa-Marie, Julian, Sally, Kruti and Raquel. Their reflections, insights and discussion can be heard here, covering the three charitable aims of FiLiA: building sisterhood and solidarity, amplifying the voices of women and defending women's human rights. The team discuss highlights and challenges of the journey this brilliant feminist charity has been on so far, the importance of organising an annual gathering for women to speak together and where FiLiA plans to go. Women joined the discussion from the Welsh Hills, London, Portsmouth and the Dominican Republic (so we hope listeners will forgive us if the audio isn't perfect) to share FiLiA memories, feminist insights, favourite quotes, and ways to support our work (for example by signing up to the Friends of FiLiA scheme or donating a solidarity ticket to enable more women to come to the conference).I've had the honour of being podcast coordinator for a little while (from when we had just over a dozen podcasts until now). Alice, one of our interviewers, suggested that I write something for the occasion as well. I don't know if she realised that I could easily fill several pages of thoughts about the beauty of hearing women's voices and audio podcasting as a uniquely useful medium for feminist discussions (for many reasons, e.g. no need to worry about visual appearances & busy women can listen while they're doing other things). Brevity has never been my strong suit, sorry, but I shall share some reflections here.My first podcast recording session was with Sheila Jeffreys and Heather Brunskell-Evans. I was stressed, trying to work out how to capture this online discussion and troubleshoot our connectivity issues. What I'll remember is sitting in my room once recording was underway, pinching myself that these two amazing feminists were speaking to each other and I was allowed to listen to their conversation and share it with others. But also wondering, “how the hell did I get the privilege of being involved in this?”I volunteered as podcast coordinator because two other women I respect, who share my first name, kindly nudged me toward the opportunity on the FiLiA website. I'd applied for the role rather sheepishly, with little relevant experience, but was greeted with warmth, met a wonderful team of hard-working women and am still on a crash-course in “proper” feminism I shall treasure for life. I've had a more valuable education in creating and listening to these podcasts than any university course in “Gender Studies” could hope to offer.I learned that from the start, FiLiA's ethos for these podcasts is that women themselves will have as much control over their own participation and words as possible - to try to create a woman-centred space. Our podcasts are perhaps slightly peculiar in that they don't follow a set format, really. We have no time-limits or fixed type of discussion. Our production process embraces the do-it-yourself style, which means we'll vary in audio quality, but the benefit of this approach is that simple, free audio recording and editing processes are an equaliser – so in theory any woman with an internet connection could get involved with podcasting if she wanted to. We all learn together, from each other. Our guests are phenomenal women, from all over the world, involved in all sorts of work & areas of expertise, a mix of maybe more familiar and newer feminist voices. We have a roster of talented volunteer interviewers and editors, who all have their own ways of approaching the podcasts, working together. I have far

Now in the process of reclaiming her womanhood, Carol is focusing her energy on helping other detrans people find a community, particularly women who don’t conform to gender stereotypes. Finally, don't miss Sekhmet's powerful commentary on the significance of the Declaration and the growing numbers of women worldwide who are signing on. ***Please note this recording contains explicit content.*** "This article is a feminist response to the campaigning activism and queer and transgender theory which promotes the ‘degendering' of public toilets. This campaign originates in the demands of men who transgender to access women's toilets. Activists argue that sex segregation of toilets is the result of nineteenth century moralism and is a discriminatory practice. They say that degendered toilets would be safer for women because the good men would protect women from aggressors, and they show a remarkable degree of insensitivity to women's needs and interests. The campaign is increasingly effective, with schools in the US and local councils in the UK moving to degender toilets in response. This article will argue that the safety of women as a group requires that toilet provision should remain sex segregated or take the form of individual cubicles that offer privacy and safety to all users."

Thanks to Anonymous for sending WLRN this sound file from 2014 when Thistle Pettersen interviewed Sheila Jeffreys, Elizabeth Hungerford and Jane Doe on the Access Hour at Madison's community radio station WORT 89.9 FM. The lead-up to this show and the aftermath were notable since trans activists and advocates complained to the station that this show was "trans misogynistic" and full of "hate speech."
After two years, Thistle Pettersen went back into the studios of WORT 89.9 FM, the community radio station in Madison, to interview Meghan Murphy LIVE on the Access Hour and to play a pre-recorded interview she did with Julie Bindel. Thanks to WORT's Access Hour for allowing these interviews to be broadcast from the station. Ms. Pettersen was banned from the station's premises in January 2016 due to transactivist complaints about her previous LIVE interview with Sheila Jeffreys in 2014 and the broadcasting of Ms. Pettersen's radio documentary of the Last Michigan Womyn's Music Festival in 2015. The ban was lifted in February 2016, but she did not feel comfortable going back to the station until 2018. Even now, there are staff and volunteers at the station who believe that what you will hear in this program, and in any of the programs that Ms. Pettersen produces is "hate speech." Thankfully, the mission of the Access Hour slot in particular, allows for differing points of view on women's liberation politics to be aired on Madison's community radio station, WORT 89.9 FM In these two interviews with Murphy & Bindel, learn more about Ms. Bindel's book, the Pimping of Prostitution and why taking a stand for abolishing prostitution and sex trafficking is the most feminist stance one can take. In addition, hear what Meghan Murphy of Feminist Current has to say about current gender identity legislation and why she testified before the Canadian Senate against it. To learn more about Ms. Pettersen's ban from the station visit https://bannedbytrans.wordpress.com/ and click on "Censored by Transpolitics: A Master Post" and scroll down to Tiers 3 & 4.
