The Phillies signed right-hander Jordan Romano to a one-year, $8.5 million contract on Monday at the Winter Meetings in Dallas. But they still need to find an outfielder and more to upgrade a team that wants to win the World Series. We're back from the Winter Meetings in Dallas, and we spent Friday talking about Dave Dombrowski's comments on the final day of the meetings on Wednesday, when he said it wasn't the right time to trade a package of top prospects for Garrett Crochet, who was traded to the Red Sox. A musician described as “the most interesting voice on the guitar for a generation”, Edinburgh-born Sean Shibe is as at home on the electric guitar as he is on the classical acoustic one. Winner of awards including the 2018 Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award and the 2022 Leonard Bernstein Award, he was nominated in 2023 for a Grammy, and continues to prove himself as an original mind at the frontier of contemporary classical music. In this conversation, Sean demystifies the electric guitar while eloquently introducing us to a deliciously diverse selection of music. He has an inspiring approach to both the acoustic and electric guitar which embraces tradition while pushing boundaries. Sean Shibe performs with the Australian Chamber Orchestra under artistic director Richard Tognetti for Scotland Unbound around Australia until November 18, with performances at the City Recital Hall on November 9, 12 and 13, and at the Sydney Opera House on November 10.
Have you ever fantasized about being locked, padded, and regressed 24/7?
The Phillies entered the week believing they are the best team in baseball. Their sweep of the Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park only reaffirmed those beliefs. “We don't care who's coming,” Johan Rojas said. “We don't care who we are playing. We're just going to beat them.” So many good things happened this week against L.A. Trea Turner continued to swing a hot bat, drawing comparisons to Jimmy Rollins' 2007 NL MVP season. Phillies pitchers held Shohei Ohtani to three singles, striking him out in a few big spots. Cristopher Sánchez rebounded in a big way on Wednesday. Rojas made a fantastic catch in left-center field on Thursday night. Ruben, Jim and Todd dig into it all. They start the show by talking about a shocking confession Ruben made on the 94 WIP Morning Show on Thursday. Did he really call into WIP using a fake voice? The Sixers beat the Knicks in a grimy, ugly, 90s basketball fashion, and we love it. We talk about the win, Oubre's game, BBall Paul's game, and the fight that happened. We debate who the Sixers best player is when Maxey and Embiid are out, discuss Ben Simmons being out for the season, the team meeting with Kai Jones, and whether we're nervous that there hasn't been an Embiid update. Ole Larson is a salt of the earth guy who is running for MatSu School Board as an incumbent and former Board President. He worked in an arena, prisons and youth detention facilities, for decades and has a refreshing no-nonsense style free of pretension and manure you'll often find on school boards.I get to interview Ole today on the show but in many ways, it's as much about his opponent, Diane Shibe, as it is about Ole.As my friends Suzanne Downing in MustRead Alaska (HERE) and Joel Davidson in The Alaska Watchman (HERE) have reported, Shibe is banking on Valley residents being dimwitted. While casting herself in conservative red campaign colors and school choice slogans, Shibe is rolling in dough, the most in MatSu Valley School Board race history, from a legion of liberals including outside DC funding groups, the NEA, Anchorage School Board President Margo Bellamy, former Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Pat Chesbro, Tom Klaameyer, the current president the National Education Association in Alaska and Ted Swanson, the only current progressive, woke member of the Mat Su School Board. She even has the gall to say on her campaign website that she's in favor of school choice. The NEA, Shibe served as President of the local chapter in the Valley, is without a doubt the biggest opponent of school choice in America today. President Abraham Lincoln noted with wonderful clarity that "No man (or woman) has a good enough memory to be a successful liar."Oh Diane and your donors, the tangled web of deceit you weave. In 1908, Philadelphia was a two baseball team city. It was not only home to the established Phillies, it was also where the upstart American League team, the Athletics played under the watchful eye of club owner Ben Shibe and his right hand man, Connie Mack. The A's quickly became the team of choice as they almost immediatly found success and pennants in the City of Brotherly Love. Because of the team's accomplishments on the field and at the gate, the club began construction on the first all concrete and steel baseball stadium, they would eventually name Shibe Park. The ballpark would revolutionize baseball from the all wood tinder boxes to a state of the art baseball palace. And their incredible feats of engineering would serve as a template for baseball stadiums in the future. The A's were the hottest ticket in Philly... that is until Jack Shibe did something that altered the relationship between ballclub and the surrounding neighborhood. #ShibePark #BenShibe #ConnieMack #PhiladelphiaAthletics #ConnieMackStadium #PhiladelphiaPhillies #NegroLeagues #PhiladelphiaStars

At last, Cinderella has made it to the ball. After postponement, rearrangement, and postponement again because of, first the lockdown, then social distancing requirements, Andrew Lloyd Webber's new musical, Cinderella, opened last night. Emerald Fennell takes a radical approach to the fairytale: in her version Prince Charming is missing, presumed dead; the beauty industry is satirised and the banality of surface allure exposed. Still, there is pazzazz aplenty: big numbers, big frocks and big hair; a leather-clad chorus of dancing hunks; some close-hauled corsetry. What does it add up to? Has it been worth the wait? John Wilson was there, as was critic Sarah Crompton, and they discuss the show and Sarah gives her verdict on the most important live showbiz event of the year. Award-winning guitarist Sean Shibe has recorded a new album of music that has comforted him over the Pandemic, and puts his own spin on Spanish music that is so often associated with the classical guitar. He explains what he put this selection of music together, and performs Satie live in the studio. Prano Bailey-Bond's debut film 'Censor' had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. It references and celebrates 'video-nasties' from the 1980s. She explains where the idea came from and why the time period was one she wanted to explore. We mark the passing of Dame Vera Lynn, the Forces' Sweetheart, whose songs helped raise morale in World War Two. After Dame Vera's death, aged 103, was announced today, composer and author Neil Brand explores her unique musical gifts. Scottish guitarist Sean Shibe's critically acclaimed work brings a new approach to the classical guitar by experimenting with instruments and repertoire. His new album Bach: Pour La Luth Ò Cembal, featuring works written for the lute but played on guitar, is number one in the Official Specialist Classical Chart. PlacePrints is a series of audio plays by David Rudkin invoking the hidden stories imprinted on ten different locations around the UK, and spanning time from the Stone Age to the present day. Jack McNamara, director of theatre company New Perspectives, has been recording these vignettes over four years with actors including Josie Lawrence, Toby Jones, Stephen Rea, Juliet Stevenson and Michael Pennington. Theatre critic Susannah Clapp reviews this ambitious endeavour. Alison Brackenbury is Front Row’s poet-in-residence this week taking inspiration from her travels around the country. Wherever she goes Alison visits museums and galleries. Their current closure this has inspired her to write new poems about some of the museums she has visited, and so, imaginatively, open them up. Today she takes us back to the 16th century and to Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. Here Mary, Queen of Scots, witnessed her husband murder her secretary, and confronted John Knox who objected to rule by ‘the monstrous regiment of women’. They started off by challenging each other to figure out the most significant individual shortstop seasons ever played, but the results were not necessarily what either Pesach or Scott expected. Join the Baseball Rabbi to hear some wild stats - some crazy, some significant, some truly insane - as they search for the greatest seasons ever played by a shortstop. Plus: if you could go back and watch a game in any bygone baseball field, which would it be?
If professional baseball had a Founding Father, it would be Harry Wright. Philadelphia was one of the early cities to adopt the game, and sporting goods manufacturers Ben Shibe and Al Reach took advantage of it. And if you listened to the Phillies on the radio, you knew broadcast announcer Harry Kalas.

The Dogecoin community uses its size to support good causes all over the world. #doge #dogecoin #cryptocurrency In 2014, the Dogecoin community raised 50,000 US Dollars to help send the Jamaican Bobsled Team to the Sochi Winter Olympics. For World Water Day (March 22nd 2014), loyal Shibes raised 30,000 US Dollars to help build clean-water wells in the Tana Valley, Kenya. Shibes have even tried NASCAR (North-American Stock Car Auto Racing). In March 2014, Shibes paid 55,000 US Dollars to sponsor a driver named Josh Wise. Wise raced in a Dogecoin themed car! Sean Shibe, a real rising star of the guitar world, has just released his first disc, called 'Dreams and Fancies' on the Delphian label - and we've named it an Editor's Choice recording in the September 2017 issue of Gramophone. In this Gramophone podcast he talks to Editor Martin Cullingford about English music for guitar, about Julian Bream, and about the unique appeal of the instrument and its repertoire.
This week, Travis and Devin take to social media to get questions from their adoring fans. They talk about audibly transmitted VD to why Secret Wars is a thing. They cover the first week of FFO results, tell you how to get involved with the home version of the game, and establish this week's challenge. The show raps up this week with a new character from the shop sitting down to talk about his childhood, how he became caught up in DC comics, and how he and Steeph are basically Bruce Wayne and Tommy Elliot. Promos this week come from Musings of a Shibe, Passers-by Podcast, and Wicked Radio Network. Don't forget to support our networks: Danger Entertainment, Wicked Radio Network, The Tangent-Bound Network, and Michigan Internet Radio
We get back to our roots this week with some actual comic talk. Travis talks about selling his individual issues of Preacher, Devin talks about what he has read, and Steeph is sad that all the new Marvel titles aren't flying off the shelves. We also talk about Walking Dead news, the Supergirl TV show, and the Preacher trailer. Promos this week come from Danger Entertainment, Hot Butter Podcast, and Musings of a Shibe.
On this week's show, more #FFO shenanigans are afoot when it is revealed that Travis may have mislead Steeph on what counts as fast food, Ken Johnson sits in as co-host and old time radio announcer, Jason "Mexican Gambit" Jimenez returns to the show after a long hiatus, and Travis talks about the recent internet kerfuffle about Frank Miller's drawing abilities. This week's show features promos for Musings of a Shibe, The History of Bad Ideas, and the The Tangent-Bound Network.
