Presbyterian Church Erupts In Civil War After Proposing Clergy Be Monogamous

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is tearing itself apart — and the trigger is about as basic as it gets. A proposal that clergy be required to be in monogamous relationships has ignited a furious denominational revolt, with progressive committees and pro-polyamory advocacy groups inside the church fighting the rule tooth and nail. The "More Light Presbyterians" hosted a "faithful polyamory 101" training last month while actively lobbying against the standard. Three separate advisory committees condemned the proposal, calling it an instrument of "shame, silence, and coercion" against "marginalized persons."Sean Reynolds was raised Presbyterian in Snohomish County, and he genuinely cannot figure out what happened to the church he grew up in. The activists pushing back aren't fringe outsiders — they're official denominational bodies using the language of equity and inclusion to argue that asking clergy to stick to one partner is itself a form of discrimination. The Adam and Eve argument? Somehow that's now a controversial position inside a Christian institution. This is what progressive capture of mainline institutions actually looks like at the end stage: not a slow drift on social justice talking points, but an outright war over whether basic monogamy belongs in the clergy conduct code at all. Sean breaks down the proposal, the groups leading the backlash, and what this moment says about where PC(USA) — and the broader progressive project — is actually headed.Subscribe to @reasonablenews and hit the bell so you never miss a segment.#Seattle #GovernmentWaste #KingCountyGO PREMIUM WITH REASONABLE+ FOR UNCENSORED ACCESS

On the latest episode, we cut through the fig leafs and happy talk from Sound Transit officials to lay bare the hardball political realities underlying their decision to kill the long-promised light line extension to Ballard, which has been left unfunded and postponed indefinitely. Who to blame? Erica says it is a systemic failure, pointing to ST's excessively slow, expensive, and politicized planning process, noting that it took approximately 30 years just to fund the relatively simple Graham Street Station. Sandeep argues that executives from Pierce and Snohomish County strategically outmaneuvered Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson and King County Executive Girmay Zahilay to get their priorities addressed, at Seattle's expense. This successful political power play ensured the Everett and Tacoma segments of the Sound Transit spine were fully funded while leaving the high-ridership Ballard extension dead in the water. Can some newly passed amendments promising to explore new approaches and find cost-saving measures somehow save the Ballard line? Or is this more political "bullshit" that will not address the agency's deeply flawed and entrenched status quo institutional culture or do anything significant to mitigate the multi-billion-dollar cost overruns plaguing Sound Transit projects? Neither Erica or Sandeep see much cause for optimism, though David suggests that will largely depends on whether the County Executive and Mayor follow through and turn the heat up on Sound Transit to deliver.   The discussion then shifts to the latest "defenestration” in Mayor Katie Wilson's office, with the forced resignation of her housing and homelessness advisor Jon Grant, the latest fallout from the breakdown in relations between the mayor's office and the Council. While critics on the right claim this is evidence of chaos at the top, we all give the mayor credit for demonstrating decisive—if "cold-blooded"—leadership by prioritizing her office's performance over personal loyalty as she moves to repair the seriously frayed relationships with councilmembers. And we suggest this is an indication of a shifting power balance within the mayor's office away from activist outsiders to more experienced city hands. Our editor is Quinn Waller.Send us a text! Is spring actually showing up in the Pierce County real estate market — or is this the quietest "selling season" we've seen in years? In this episode of Inside Abode, host Dave Jones sits down with Jeff Tucker, Windermere Real Estate's Principal Economist, to break down what the latest Northwest MLS data really means for buyers, sellers, and agents across Pierce County and the greater Puget Sound. The headlines: closed sales are down 2% year-over-year, but pending sales are up 3%. New listings surged 14%, leaving 30% more active inventory than last April. The median sale price dipped about $5,000 — more evidence that PNW prices have stayed remarkably stable while other markets swing.Jeff walks us through the regional split too. Snohomish County closed sales dropped 15%. King County's median slipped 7% to $1,030,000. We talk about what that means for sellers trying to price right, for buyers who finally have options, and for the most balanced market we've seen in years.Spring is still a strong window to list — but the playbook has changed. More inventory means buyers are choosier, pricing matters more, and presentation wins.

July 11, 2006. Snohomish County, Washington. 56-year old Mary Cooper and her 27-year old daughter, Susanna Stodden, leave their homes in Seattle in order to go hiking on the Pinnacle Lake Trail over 60 miles away. Later that day, Mary and Susanna's bodies are found alongside the trail after they have both been shot in the head and even though some of their clothing was removed, neither of them were sexually assaulted. For years, Mary's husband is looked at as a potential suspect before he is officially ruled out, but even though a partial male DNA profile is eventually found under Susanna's fingernails, it has not been matched to anyone. In addition, we'll also discuss the unsolved murders of 25-year old Patricia Dixon and her five-year old daughter, Amanda Dixon, who also lived in the Seattle area and were both shot to death inside their motel room in Anaheim, California during a vacation to Disneyland in March 1984. On this episode of Zen and the Art of Real Estate Investing, Jonathan Greene interviews Lauren Rogers, investor relations and acquisitions lead at Veritas Equity Partners. Lauren shares how she transitioned from a high-level career in global tech to multifamily real estate and why she chose to partner with an experienced operator instead of starting with small, hands-on deals. Drawing from Veritas' focused strategy in Washington State, she explains how their tight buy box, workforce housing thesis, and in-house property management approach create consistent, risk-adjusted returns. Lauren and Jonathan explore the realities of value-add investing in Snohomish County, why geographic discipline matters more than chasing hot markets, and how exterior improvements, operational efficiencies, and local relationships can meaningfully impact NOI. They also discuss the mindset shift required to move from active DIY investing to passive syndication, especially for high-income professionals seeking long-term wealth and cash flow. Listeners will gain insight into how syndications actually work behind the scenes—from underwriting and leverage to investor communication and trust—and why forced holding periods and conservative debt structures can protect capital over time. In this episode, you will hear: Why Lauren left global tech to build a career in multifamily real estate How Veritas defines its 20–60 unit workforce housing buy box The importance of focusing hyper-locally within Snohomish County How in-house property management can improve NOI and operational control The difference between active ownership and truly passive syndication investing Common fears new investors have about multifamily syndications Follow and Review If you enjoy the show, please follow Zen and the Art of Real Estate Investing on Apple Podcasts and leave a rating and review.
