From storytelling and search visibility to nurturing community and staying adaptable, Lauren offers actionable advice for professionals and entrepreneurs who want to stand out and connect meaningfully in 2024 and beyond.Building a Personal Brand That Grows with YouLauren Davis's approach to personal branding is rooted in intentionality and authenticity. Drawing on her experience as a record store owner turned branding consultant, she emphasizes that branding isn't about perfection—it's about connection. Every interaction online contributes to your personal narrative, and managing that narrative proactively ensures your audience sees the real you.Her five-step process begins with being findable online—optimizing search results, claiming your digital space, and differentiating your name or identity. From there, it's about nurturing relationships through value-driven content, genuine engagement, and consistent communication. Lauren also underscores the power of storytelling, urging professionals to build community through shared experiences. Finally, she recommends auditing your brand regularly to stay relevant as trends, technology, and your personal goals evolve.Lauren points out that AI is reshaping how personal brands are discovered, with search engines and chatbots pulling from public content to form impressions. To stay ahead, professionals must be proactive—keeping profiles current, managing reputation across platforms, and using keywords and narratives that align with how they want to be found. The key takeaway? A personal brand isn't built overnight; it's cultivated through clarity, consistency, and connection over time.About Lauren DavisLauren Davis is a personal branding strategist, speaker, and Founder of Lauren Davis Creative, where she helps entrepreneurs and professionals build impactful, human-centered brands. In this episode of Your Dream Business Podcast, host Teresa Heath‑Wareing talks with Lauren Davis, a marketing & brand consultant, about how public speaking can boost your business. Lauren shares her journey into speaking, offers a framework for deciding whether to say “yes” to unpaid gigs, compares keynotes vs. workshops, and shows how to make the most of events (think networking, pro photos/videos). A big emphasis is put on making sure speaking opportunities align with your values and business goals. Key Takeaways Choose Speaking Gigs That Align with Your Values & Goals Not every opportunity is worth taking. Lauren emphasizes evaluating engagements based on how well they match your personal values, the audience, and your long‑term business vision. Saying yes to misaligned opportunities can dilute your brand and effort. Weigh the Difference Between Keynotes, Workshops, Paid & Unpaid Gigs Workshops and keynotes serve different purposes. Workshops might offer more interaction, learning, or depth, while keynotes often give broader visibility. Similarly, unpaid gigs aren't always “bad”—they can offer exposure, networking, or content. But you need criteria (audience, promotion, platform) to decide whether the cost in time/energy is worth it. Maximize What Each Event Gives You Treat speaking engagements not just as “one‑off gigs” but as opportunities. Get professional photos/videos, leverage them for marketing, build relationships with other attendees/speakers, and ensure organizers promote you well. These extras amplify the value of the speaking moments. Hey y'all, The strange, gore fest franchise that is Evil Dead began with a small independent film that grew into a franchise phenomena from a cult following. Now the fifth film in the franchise is out. For this week's episode, and in their final episode as hosts, Lauren & Paul review Evil Dead Rise. They start with their own pasts with the franchise before delving deeper into the film. They talk about what makes an Evil Dead movie, what this one does with the franchise fodder, and how well it creeped us out. Lastly, Paul and Lauren are leaving as permanent hosts of the Film Buds as Henry returns. It has been a great time with them on the show, and they can still be found around on Letterboxd and Instagram. And be on the look out for their new venture, coming soon. Hey y'all, For those of y'all not in the know, the recent merger of Warner and Discovery led to not only a further consolidation of a relatively cramped market, but also the loss of completed film and television. Following the merger, the company, under the direction of David Zaslav, multiple projects in various stages of post-production were canceled and used for tax write off purposes, the most prominent of which was Batgirl. However, one of those films leaked. Yes folks, last weekend a completed animated Scooby Doo film, Scooby Doo and Krypto Too, leaked online. So naturally we had to talk about and review this never to be released film. Was it bad enough to warrant cancellation? Was it secretly a tie-in to the now dead Snyder-verse (It does not)? What's our favorite Scooby Doo crossover? We'll answer all these questions and more in our review. Happy Black History Month, y'all, This week we bring our cinematic celebration to a close, but we do it with MUSIC!Music is a core, human experience, but that doesn't mean that music history is immune to the reality of human history. While many were enjoying rock'n'roll, few were honoring or even aware of its relation to the Black community as White artists and disc jockeys profited off the sound. For our review this week, we watched the recorded Broadway show, Memphis. Boasting a predominantly Black cast, and about the history of rock'n'roll on radio, we'll discuss how well the show honors the history. Furthermore, we'll discuss the different ways stage can be used to tell a story, how well this recording works, and more. Hey y'all,Black representation in film has a long and complicated past that extends back to the beginning of Film. Blackface, racial disparity behind the scenes, and more all made it difficult for accurate Black representation by Black artists. And in the wake of the Civil Rights movement came a subgenre all its own, Blaxploitation. The style of filmmaking taps into many of the zeitgeist elements of the 1970s, including sex and violence on screen, and even included Horror. For this week's episode we're looking at the Blaxploitation Horror Blacula. We'll discuss the tropes of Dracula, how they work in this new setting, and review Blacula. Hey y'all,January-March is in many ways a little bit of a nebulous time of year. Summer Blockbusters haven't started, it isn't Holiday Movie season, and many of your serious award contenders have yet to come out. So what are we supposed to talk about? The same thing we did last year: Black History and Excellence my dudes. Throughout history, but even in the last year alone, there have been incredible, powerful, transcendent pieces of art that shaped generations of artists and cinema lovers. So all month long, we're celebrating. To begin, we're reviewing 2022's The Woman King. The film is based on a true story and was considered an awards favorite. We'll discuss how well it handles that history, whether it was a true contender or an Award Bait flick, and more. Beyond our review, we'll also be discussing the new changes at Netflix, as well as James Gunn's big DC Studios announcement. And of course, be sure to check out last week's episode. Thank y'all,The Buds
Hey y'all,The career of a filmmaker is an interesting thing. Some are like one hit wonders. They make something great and vanish. But some endure. One of America's most prolific directors, Steven Spielberg has been working for almost 50 years, defining part of America's zeitgeist with massive blockbusters and sweeping historical epics. But how did we get here? All month long, we'll be reviewing Spielberg's work, and this week is his first domestic theatrical release. Today we are reviewing The Sugarland Express, followed by a discussion on the film's legacy. We also discuss the current awards season, and how Spielberg fits into the current awards race. Thanks as always for listening and be sure to check out last week's episode.Enjoy y'all,The BudsYou can follow Nick on his IG, Twitter, Discussing Film, Knotfest, or personal website. You can follow Mad and her work on her Instagram, Twitter, and personal website. We have to keep it local, keep it real, and focus on the issues that matter. I explain why Republicans have demonstrated they will not change in the majority. Instead, we need a new type of candidate, running with a new message. To demonstrate this, I'm joined by Lauren Davis, a candidate for Dallas County judge who just won a primary against the GOP establishment. She is a regular mom and business owner who ran because her kids were bullied by school officials for not wearing masks. She is a new mold for conservative candidates running on a new message.
