This episode examines the South Carolina Capital punishment. How is it decided whether a murder becomes a capital offense? Who decides whether someone might face the death penalty? Why was Alex Murdaugh not charged with a capital offense? Those questions and more are answered by former U.S. States Attorney for the District of South Carolina, Bill Nettles. Nettles discusses a very interesting case in which he defended a man on death row. Bill Nettles possesses an extraordinary, almost unparalleled depth and breadth of experience. You cannot find an attorney who will be better equipped to provide you with the high-quality representation you deserve. Mr. Nettles was appointed United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina by President Obama and was sworn into that office on May 3, 2010. As the US Attorney, he dramatically overhauled the office to focus on public corruption, fraud and white collar crime, while also greatly increasing resources to the extraordinarily important false claims whistleblower division. Under Mr. Nettles' leadership, the US Attorney's office made white collar crime and public corruption the highest priority of the criminal division's efforts. He also earned national praise for the innovative and intelligent approach his office took to drug crimes. Mr. Nettles was the longest serving US attorney since the 1960's, ensuring he had an extraordinary impact on the personnel and the policies of that important office. Because of his service as the United States Attorney for the entire state of South Carolina he has worked with the heads of the Department of Justice to help shape policy for the last 5 and a half years. Before being appointed a US Attorney, Mr. Nettles graduated from The Citadel and earned his law degree at The Widener University School of Law, where he was on law review and was a member of the moot court honor society. After graduating, he began a career that has taken him into every corner of the legal system. Starting in 2005, he worked at Sanders & Nettles, LLC until being appointed the US Attorney. If you find yourself in need of an experienced lawyer in South Carolina and you want to speak with our attorney about your case, please call the Law Office of Bill Nettles at 803-284-8906 for a free consultation. One of the biggest races on the ballot in Chicago this election cycle is the Cook County State's Attorney race.In the spring, Eileen O'Neill Burke beat her democratic opponent by 1,571 votes - two tenth of a percent. Now, she faces Bob Fioretti, a familiar name in Chicago democratic politics, now a republican. On today's podcast, Quinn Myers previews the race after sitting down with both candidates.Host - Jon HansenReporter - Quinn Myers Want to donate to our non-profit newsroom? We believe all neighborhoods deserve to be covered in a meaningful way.We amplify positive stories, cover development and local school council meetings and serve as watchdogs in neighborhoods often ostracized by traditional news media.Ground-level coverageOur neighborhood-based reporters don't parachute in once to cover a story. They are in the neighborhoods they cover every day building relationships over time with neighbors. We believe this ground-level approach not only builds community but leads to a more accurate portrayal of a neighborhood.Stories that matter to you — every daySince our launch five years ago, we've published more than 25,000 stories from the neighborhoods, covered hundreds of community meetings and send daily and neighborhood newsletters to more than 130,000 Chicagoans. We've built this loyalty by proving to folks we are not only covering their neighborhoods, we are a part of them. Some of us have internalized the national media's narrative of a broken Chicago. We aim to change that by celebrating our neighborhoods and chronicling the resilience of the people who fight every day to make Chicago a better place for all.

Send us a Text Message.During her tenure as Cook County's (IL) top cop, States Attorney Kim Fox has often left many cops and crime victims frustrated with the impossibility of career criminals ever facing a felony charge. Ironically, that same standard doesn't seem to apply when the States Attorney herself becomes the victim of lawlessness. So if you're looking for a big gulp of some carbonated street justice, pour out a little time for your homies and give this episode a listen. In this shorter clip Mary Cole explains how The Therapeutic Intensive Monitoring (TIM) Unit of Lake County Illinois tries to help people arrested that have mental health issues. https://19thcircuitcourt.state.il.us/1167/Therapeutic-Intensive-Monitoring-TIM-Uni In July 2005 the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit established the Drug Court component of the Therapeutic Intensive Monitoring (TIM) Court. In January 2007 Mental Health Court was started and in 2011 the Veterans Treatment and Assistance Court was established for veterans. The mission of the TIM program is to reduce crime, enhance public safety and reduce jail populations by providing a comprehensive treatment and supervision plan. Each component of TIM Court has an established multidisciplinary team consisting of treatment professionals, probation officials, judges, assistant state's attorneys and assistant public defenders. The Adult Probation's TIM Unit supervises all clients of Drug Court, Mental Health Court and Veteran's Treatment and Assistance Court (VTAC). Each Court is assigned a Probation Officer that acts as the TIM Court Coordinator. The TIM Court Coordinator prepares weekly agendas and chairs Mental Health Court, Drug Court and VTAC staffing meetings. Staffing meetings include members from multidisciplinary teams that support each court. Members of the Probation Field Supervision Unit augment supervision in the community to all three courts. The TIM Court Program has received supplemental funding though two SAMHSA grants, one BJA grant, and annual Adult Redeploy grants. Each grant involves significant administrative duties which are managed by Adult Probation staff. https://www.maryforlakecounty.com/ https://www.maryforlakecounty.com/donation_front_page --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lakeforestpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lakeforestpodcast/support

Live from the Heart of America—I'm Steve Gruber—ready to fight for you from the Foxhole of Freedom—giving you better analysis and insight than anyone else—shining a spotlight into the darkness of the political/media industrial complex swamp—and delivering— the relentless pursuit of truth! Here are the 3 Big Things you need to know to start today— Number One— A college professor was fired in Texas for having the nerve to teach that biological sex is based on X and Y chromosomes—I mean how dare he teach actual science??? Number Two— Here is something interesting—Donald Trump is the only living or former President—whose ancestors were not slave owners—let that sink in for a moment— Number Three— Its quite clear that with yet another leak that impacts only Donald Trump and never Democrats—that the deck is getting stacked against the 45thPresident of the United States AGAIN! This time—the left wing propaganda machine is pumping out stories about a leaked audio tape that they claim—proves Donald Trump had illegal classified documents in his possession after leaving office—and that he shared those documents with people who could not legally see them— So today we will start by dissecting the audio and then hearing what Trump and others have to say about what is actually going on— Now this tape that has been intentionally and illegally leaked I might add—is from two years ago—and I want us all to listen together ok? So that may sound damning if you are told what to listen for and what you are hearing—but is it really anything significant—I don't think so—because nobody on the left has been able to say at this point what document it would even be—and they have not produced the document either—this is all conjecture at best—and another smear job at worst and all with the same intent—destroy Donald Trump at all costs— And those on Trumps team are saying this recording proves nothing—except that Democrats are desperate to get Trump out of the race—and protect their 81 year old incumbent from being pummeled in the 2024 Election— And for the former President—he says this is par for the course—and is very predictable— There are even some high profile liberal journalists—and yes, believe it or not a couple do still survive in the wild—well they are pointing to a pattern of lawlessness coming from the Biden White House and permeating through his entire Administration— By the way—while this latest distraction is dragged across the American media landscape—the whistleblowers are getting larger in number and louder in their cries that David Weiss the States Attorney investigating Hunter Biden and the Biden family corruption scandal that involves numerous allegations of bribery and money laundering—well the newest whistleblower known only as Mr. X—he says Weiss had no authority to do much of anything and had to run everything past his higher ups— Weiss denies that he was a kept man—and on a leash leading all the way to AG Merrick Garland and ultimately Joe Biden—and that's why you can expect him to face hard questions from Republicans in the US House about what his role really has been in the Hunter Biden corruption investigation— Which reminds me of something— Yeah—Joe Biden jokes about whether or not he is a corrupt politician—and now it looks like that was no joke at all— By the way where is he?
He calls in to talk to Simon about the validity of what is going on.
John Campbell, Ex. Dir of Sheriffs and States Attorneys, joins Kurt & Anthony to discuss the potential impeachment of the States Attorney and Sheriff in Franklin County.

Maxine Waters Remembers Belafonte Republicans across the nation are in an all-out assault on black prosecutors. Today we will speak with a Black state attorney from Florida who has come under fire from conservatives, including DeSantis, who alleges that she's soft on crime. The controversy surrounding the acquisition of cable company Tenga by Standard General continues. This time New Jersey Democrat Senator Bob Menendez is calling out his colleagues and threatening to boycott all further appointments to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission. We will show his entire speech as he railed on the Senate floor. The white woman, Carolyn Bryant Donham, who was the catalyst for the 1955 lynching of 14-year-old Emmett Till, has sparked a debate about justice versus vengeance. I will share my thoughts on the Yazoo Herald article "Pursuit of Donham Finally Over." Y'all have been texting and tweeting me about the Republican guest Robert had on yesterday's show. I was in L.A. for an event; when Stacey Washington said Trump's policies are better for black people than Biden's. Today, I have a little to say about what Ms. Washington said on my platform. Ya'll don't want to miss that! One week to the day, the icon Harry Belafonte died, and today we continue our coverage honoring his life as we speak to Representative Maxine Waters about how she remembers Belafonte and all the work he's done as an activist. Rev. Al and I so excited about this episode, the Mayor and Rev. go back a long ways, both graduates of City Collge High School, and both leaders in this community since their High Schools Days. An amazing athlete Kurt Schmoke lead the City Knights to Championships two years while he was in High School, Junior and Senior year. One of his mentors was George Young, a man who went on to run the New York Giants, he helped Kurt set his sights high and was pivitol in his journey to Yale. Kurt remembers wanting to be Mayor back to his early days in High School inspired by then Mayor Tommy Dellasandro during a speech at school. A graduate of Yale undergrad and Harvard Law School and as a Rhodes Scholar he landed himself in Oxford for two years. In High School he was a member of the famed Boys Club the Lancers. As a Lancer he traveled the world and it opened his eyes to cultures all over the world. He didn't get smaller he got bigger, and before you know it he was Baltimore's States Attorney and eventually its Mayor, where he served three terms While Mayor he focused on making Baltimore "The City that Reads" and he tore down and rebuilt every multi-story public housing project in Baltimore. As the President of UB he lends his experience and his vision for a new Station North which is underway with UB playing a real role in the redevelopement and repositioning land in the immediate area as construction begins on Baltimore's New state of the art Train Station along with UB's redevelopment of the US Post Office site adjacent to the campus. A man raised in the public schools here in Baltimore he shows us what's possible with good parents and good mentors in life. Thanks Mayor Schmoke, for all you have done over the years, thanks for what you are doing now, this was a great conversation, we thank you for your time!

In this week's “A Reagan Forum” we go back just over one week to our Reagan Forum with Former Attorney General Bill Barr. This wasn't just a regular Reagan Forum – it was also our first Reagan Book Club event, a membership program which connects like-minded individuals with exclusive reading materials, impactful experiences with world-class authors, and a passionate community to cultivate meaningful connections and thoughtful discussions about the history, state and direction of our nation. Bill Barr came to the Reagan Library to discuss his new book, One Damn Thing After Another, his candid memoir which takes readers behind the scenes during seminal moments of the 1990s, from the LA riots to Pan Am 103, to 30 years later while facing an unrelenting barrage of issues, such as Russiagate, the COVID outbreak, civil unrest, the impeachments, and the 2020 election fallout.
Welcome to Episode #28 of the Guns and Yoga Podcast. Today I am speaking with retired States Attorney Trish Froehlich. I met Trish and her husband this summer at a yoga training in Wichita. We instantly connected and I knew I wanted to have her on the show. First Responder wellness must include our colleagues in the Prosecutors Office; and not just the prosecutors but court clerks, evidence clerks, and those who work with the victims and witnesses. Trish talks about her career as a prosecutor, her exposure to secondary trauma, and what retirement has been like. Trish has been practicing yoga since 2008 and discusses how it helped her regulate her nervous system throughout her career. She became a certified yoga teacher after she retired and shares with us how her husband, a retired cop, decided to join her during her teacher training. Not only are they living their best life in retirement, practicing and teaching yoga, but they get to share it with each other. We discuss how nervous system activation impacts health, weight, and mental well-being. She originally started practicing yoga as a means to control her asthma symptoms, and is now committed to teaching others of its life changing benefits. If you are interested in trying yoga, regardless of whether you are brand new or have been practicing for years, I invite you to my new YouTube channel where you can access and try my yoga videos for free. I also post these videos on my main website - WendyHummell.com. Additionally, I am currently enrolling for my April 2022 cohort of Radical Resilience. Radical Resilience is a transformative lifestyle coaching program based on holistic habits, circadian science, and dynamic group support. If you are looking to make a change in your life, shoot me an email to schedule a free strategy session where we can discuss whether this program might be a good fit for you. And, as always, if you find value in this episode, make sure to share it, give us a review, and if you'd like to be notified of future episodes you can subscribe on our Podbean website or email us at wendy@bluelineyoga.com. Thanks!
