Today, the Two Mikes spoke with Mr. Maxime Bernier. Mr. Bernier is a French Canadian from Quebec and the leader of the populist People's Party of Canada (PPC). Under Mr. Bernier the PPC is seeking to give Canadians a choice that has not been made available for decades from either the incumbent Liberal Party or the Conservative Party, the later which is nearly as globalist and anti-populist as the former. Mr. Bernier knows the last point first hand as in the past he was an elected a Conservative member of Parliament and a cabinet then minister but soon found out the party had no use for his populist ideas. Mr. Bernier's policy proposals include controlling immigration which currently is almost out of control in Canada via a moratorium. About 97/% of the country's population growth is coming from that immigration, and it also is bringing “internal conflict to Canada's streets”. He also aims to encourage and work for the return of commonsense and individual responsibility to the country's government and to Canadians generally, as well as to return to Canadians the individual freedoms that have been taken from them over the long tenure Trudeau's tyrannical and Soros UN, and WEF loving party.
As in the United States, Mr. Bernier – like Mr. Trump in the U.S. – has been cancelled by the national media, and especially by the Canadian Broadcasting Company. The components of mainstream media in Canada annually receives $2 billion from the taxpayers and uses it to protect the regimes interest, no the interests of working Canadians. As a result, Mr. Bernier has been crisscrossing Canada – we spoke to him while he was in Vancouver – in an effort to educate Canadians about himself, the PPC, and what both stand for and what they intend to achieve when in government. In sum, Mr. Bernier said that there is much to be done in Canada to revitalize the faltering economy and avoiding a tariff war with the United States, to restore civil liberties and keep national government within its constitutional bounds, to reestablish a cohesive society, and to make sure that that their government and lives are being run by accountable Canadians and not by the favorite boot-lickers of overseas globalist organizations. This episode examines the South Carolina Capital punishment. How is it decided whether a murder becomes a capital offense? Who decides whether someone might face the death penalty? Why was Alex Murdaugh not charged with a capital offense? Those questions and more are answered by former U.S. States Attorney for the District of South Carolina, Bill Nettles. Nettles discusses a very interesting case in which he defended a man on death row. Bill Nettles possesses an extraordinary, almost unparalleled depth and breadth of experience. You cannot find an attorney who will be better equipped to provide you with the high-quality representation you deserve. Mr. Nettles was appointed United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina by President Obama and was sworn into that office on May 3, 2010. As the US Attorney, he dramatically overhauled the office to focus on public corruption, fraud and white collar crime, while also greatly increasing resources to the extraordinarily important false claims whistleblower division. Under Mr. Nettles' leadership, the US Attorney's office made white collar crime and public corruption the highest priority of the criminal division's efforts. He also earned national praise for the innovative and intelligent approach his office took to drug crimes. Mr. Nettles was the longest serving US attorney since the 1960's, ensuring he had an extraordinary impact on the personnel and the policies of that important office. Because of his service as the United States Attorney for the entire state of South Carolina he has worked with the heads of the Department of Justice to help shape policy for the last 5 and a half years. Before being appointed a US Attorney, Mr. Nettles graduated from The Citadel and earned his law degree at The Widener University School of Law, where he was on law review and was a member of the moot court honor society. After graduating, he began a career that has taken him into every corner of the legal system. Starting in 2005, he worked at Sanders & Nettles, LLC until being appointed the US Attorney. If you find yourself in need of an experienced lawyer in South Carolina and you want to speak with our attorney about your case, please call the Law Office of Bill Nettles at 803-284-8906 for a free consultation. The role of the private sector in facilitating the climate transition journey of our world has been much talked about recently. While many corporations, including those in the fossil fuel sectors, have started drafting out their own journeys to “net zero,” Ajay Banga, the newly appointed president of the World Bank, has also emphasized the need for active private sector finance in the climate transition. There is a growing realization that governments alone cannot do all that is needed to prevent the worst-case scenarios that the world is increasingly faced with. And yet, the full scope of how the private sector can actually expedite this once-in-an-era transition has not been explored enough. In this episode, Suresh Narayanan joins Anirudh Suri to explore the role of the private sector in the climate transition journey.Episode ContributorsSuresh Narayanan is the chairman and managing director of Nestlé India Limited. He has been in this role since August 2015. He also serves as the chairman of the CII National Committee on Food Processing Industries. Andrew Pascal serves as Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of PLAYSTUDIOS (Nasdaq: $MYPS), a developer of award-winning, free-to-play casual games for mobile and social platforms. Mr. Pascal formed PLAYSTUDIOS in 2011, positioning the brand to be at the forefront of the then-nascent mobile gaming industry. Mr. Pascal's achievements and forward-thinking insight allowed PLAYSTUDIOS to garner early support from gaming giants MGM Resorts International and Activision Blizzard, among others. Under his leadership, the company grew its portfolio of game offerings and real-world rewards while simultaneously embarking on a global expansion, opening offices and design studios in Burlingame, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Austin, Texas; Hong Kong; and Tel Aviv, Israel. Through its first decade, Mr. Pascal conceived and led the development of playAWARDS, a groundbreaking loyalty marketing platform that is key to the company's growth and retention strategy. Following nearly 10 years of successful growth across its mobile and social gaming apps, Mr. Pascal led the company's transition to a publicly traded enterprise (MYPS) in 2021. The transaction valued PLAYSTUDIOS in excess of $1 billion. Mr. Pascal remains in the Chief Executive Officer role, along with his founder-led management team. In 2021, PLAYSTUDIOS was honored to win the exclusive rights to develop Tetris in the mobile gaming space. Tetris is ranked the number 1 game in the history of gaming. In 2022, Mr. Pascal led the acquisition of Brainium Studio for $70 million. The acquisition adds a rich suite of popular casual games, such as Solitaire, Spider Solitaire, Sudoku, and Mahjong, to PLAYSTUDIOS' portfolio of industry-leading casino style social games. Prior to founding PLAYTUDIOS, Mr. Pascal was widely recognized for his stewardship of Wynn Las Vegas and Encore Las Vegas, the flagship luxury casino resort properties owned by Wynn Resorts, Ltd. Having joined the company during its start-up phase in 2003, Mr. Pascal served as Senior Vice President of Product Marketing and Development, ultimately ascending to the roles of President and Chief Operating Officer in 2005. Throughout Mr. Pascal's tenure, Wynn Las Vegas garnered multiple awards from the world's leading hospitality guides, including the coveted five Red Pavilions from Michelin, five Diamonds from AAA, and five Stars from Forbes (formerly Mobil Travel). Healthy skepticism and sharp critical thinking are governing principles for Airbnb treasurer Brian Moore. In this episode, he explains how a critical—but not negative—approach provided the framework for deciding whether Airbnb should start accepting cryptocurrency from guests who use its booking platform. The decision, for now, not to accept crypto like bitcoin came down to the costs relative to other currencies and the relatively low volumes of derivatives available to hedge a digital asset. Managing currency risk is a core competency of Airbnb treasury: the company accepts more than 40 currencies and pays hosts in more than 60. Under Mr. Moore's leadership, the treasury team created a foreign exchange cash flow hedging program. In addition to discussing his approach to hedging (remain agnostic on rates, don't try to time the market), he discusses with NeuGroup Insights editor Antony Michels his view—especially relevant in the wake of recent bank collapses—of when corporates should use revolving credit facilities (don't wait too long). Prior to joining Airbnb in September 2021, Mr. Moore most recently served as treasurer at pharmaceutical distributor McKesson and built a new treasury department at Dover Corporation, a global manufacturer. Outside of work, in addition to spending time with his family, Mr. Moore loves to ski and play the electric guitar. He was in several rock bands a couple of decades ago and is currently putting together a new group that he hopes will play some gigs this year. It has no name yet—we'd like to suggest “The Healthy Skeptics.”

Before being appointed a US Attorney, Mr. Nettles graduated from The Citadel and earned his law degree at The Widener University School of Law, where he was on law review and was a member of the moot court honor society. After graduating, he began a career that has taken him into every corner of the legal system. Mr. Nettles began his career as a public defender in Columbia, S.C. providing criminal defense services to indigent defendants who could not afford attorneys. During that time, he ensured that the legal system would not leave the economically disadvantaged behind. From 1997 to 2005, Mr. Nettles worked in private practice as a sole practitioner. He continued his criminal defense work and became one of the region's most well- respected “white collar crime” lawyers. He also represented clients accused of drug crimes, handled several court-appointed capital cases, twice tried cases that were argued before the United States Supreme Court and worked in medical malpractice and other torts. From 2005-2010, he worked at Sanders & Nettles, LLC . In 2010 Nettles was appointed United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina by President Obama and was sworn into that office on May 3, 2010. The cancellation of “Reliable Sources” — a show that has aired for about three decades — is a striking change by Chris Licht, the new chairman of CNN, who took over this spring after the sudden resignation of Jeff Zucker. Mr. Zucker left after failing to disclose a romantic relationship with another top CNN executive. He has given few other public clues about any possible broader changes at the cable network. Welcome to a program where if you hear the phrase tick-tock you can rest assured we are talking about either a clock or the time of day… it's the Modern Moron Little bit of a long episode for you  and in it we spend a great deal of time talking about exclusivity.  That's a good thing right?  You hear about something being exclusive that means not everyone can get it, or experience it.  And not only does it mean you do get to experience it, most people do NOT get to experience it… whatever “it” is… they're excluded.   Now that I say it out loud, this podcast seems pretty exclusive because it's basically it's you, me and maybe one other person we don't know.  That's pretty exclusive! We talk about exclusive brands of alcohol like George Clooney's Tequila who started Casamigos Tequila in 2013 along with two other partners for about 1.8 million… so $600K a piece.  In 2018 they sold it for $1B, that's billion with a B, which made him the highest paid actor in 2018 even though he didn't make film.  So be looking for Senator Single Barrel Rye Whiskey coming to a… specialty liquor store?  Hmm I think it's going to be more exclusive than that.  You'll probably have to go straight to him. Next up, we talk about the latest investigation into Trump searching for people leaking information to the news media during his administration.  Trump went to Apple to get phone records.  The Senator is upset because he says Obama did the same thing while he was in office. Now, you know that the last thing I would ever want to do is agree blindly with the Senator.  So… I did look up a couple of things and when I say I looked it up I mean barely… no, I do not read the entire article from newspapers, that's why most decent journalists should write with the traditional inverted pyramid goddammit.   Okay, the articles I'm citing are from a NYT Op Ed.  Yes it's an opinion article BUT, it's the NY Times.  Also  Wired Magazine.  You may be thinking, “why Wired?”  And I will tell you if you'll calm down and listen to me for a second.  I chose Wired because A) I've heard of it, even though they are a tech magazine that focuses on technology as it effects areas of our life including politics, B) because it's another left leaning source… left center and C) because mediabiasfactcheck.org rates them HIGH due to proper sourcing. From a 2013 Wired article - The Department of Justice secretly obtained phone records for reporters and editors who work for the Associated Press news agency, including records for the home phones and cell phones of individual journalists, according to the AP, in what the agency characterized as "serious interference with AP's constitutional rights to gather and report the news." The records, covering all of April and May 2012, were seized by the DoJ earlier that year and covered more than 20 separate phone lines. The records listed outgoing calls for both the work and personal phone numbers of individual reporters, as well as the general phone lines for AP bureaus in New York, Washington and Hartford, Conn., and a main number used by AP reporters in the House of Representatives. And this is from the December 2016 OP ED in the New York Times:  If Donald Trump decides as president to throw a whistle-blower in jail for trying to talk to a reporter, or gets the F.B.I. to spy on a journalist, he will have one man to thank for bequeathing him such expansive power: Barack Obama. Mr. Trump made his animus toward the news media clear during the presidential campaign, often expressing his disgust with coverage through Twitter or in diatribes at rallies. So if his campaign is any guide, Mr. Trump seems likely to enthusiastically embrace the aggressive crackdown on journalists and whistle-blowers that is an important yet little understood component of Mr. Obama's presidential legacy. Criticism of Mr. Obama's stance on press freedom, government transparency and secrecy is hotly disputed by the White House, but many journalism groups say the record is clear. Over the past eight years, (remember this was written in 2016) the administration has prosecuted nine cases involving whistle-blowers and leakers, compared with only three by all previous administrations combined. It has repeatedly used the Espionage Act, a relic of World War I-era red-baiting, not to prosecute spies but to go after government officials who talked to journalists. Under Mr. Obama, the Justice Department and the F.B.I. have spied on reporters by monitoring their phone records, labeled one journalist an unindicted co-conspirator in a criminal case for simply doing reporting and issued subpoenas to other reporters to try to force them to reveal their sources and testify in criminal cases. Now I don't think this article would be allowed to go to print in the NY Times if those statements were untrue, especially citing the number of cases.  Again, I'd take Obama over Trump any day of the week as a president but it's good to point out hypocrisy when it occurs.   And of course, no politician, regardless of party affiliation, wants what they consider classified information to get leaked from someone who is supposedly on their team.   Okay, so then we get to my favorite part of this episode where the Senator tells me he's going on a retreat to one of the most exclusive social clubs on the west coast.  The fun part is trying to figure out WHO decided this club is so exclusive.  Because when I try to search for it guess which club doesn't show up in any top ten lists of exclusive clubs?  He finally has me go to the Wikipedia page for the club he's talking about, but you and I know that either of us can make any statement we want on a wikipedia page so apparently this club is so exclusive that nobody knows about it.  Hell, my house is just as exclusive as this goddamn place.  I'm the only member.  How's that for exclusive?  Okay, I've talked to much already and the episode hasn't even started.  It's time to get fancy and really exclusive on the Modern Moron. CLOSE - Wow, long winded.  By the way the tequila from way back at the beginning of the episode isn't Geroge Clooney Tequila, it's Casamigos tequila as I said. George Clooney didn't sell his name or anything, that's just me being an idiot.  That's it, thank you for listening to this 96th episode of The Modern Moron… you know, for old people.  See you next time. Claus Eilersen, Senior Vice President of Novo Nordisk, Japan, provides deep insight in leading in the pharmaceutical industry in various countries including the US, Canada and Japan. Mr. Eilersen first entered Novo Nordisk after graduating from business school as a liaison between the headquarters in Denmark and Japan, as well as the US doing business development. He initially lived in the US but in 1995 moved with his family to Japan to become the CFO and eventually became the President of Operation in Canada. In 2005, Mr. Eilersen returned to Japan to step into his current role as Senior Vice President in the Japan office.   Having led in multiple cultures within the same organization, Mr. Eilersen describes doing business deals in Japan as a “complete immersion in a different culture” with a “very steep learning curve.” To build trust amongst his team, Mr. Eilersen held one-on-one meetings with his direct reports and set ambitious targets while establishing the company's own distribution system. By having a clear common goal, Mr. Eilersen believes this strengthen the motivation and engagement of his employees. Additionally, in order to establish mutual respect, Mr. Eilersen tried to see things from his employees and customers perspective. For example, by making numerous visits to clients across the country, Mr. Eilersen gained a clearer understanding of what particular question or service is expected from a particular customer and was able to provide a better solution. By talking to customers Mr. Eilersen saw first hand the meticulousness of Japanese consumers, who will only accept the exact number of products or else doubt the brand's quality and lose trust. Having worked in North America where defect products were accepted if for a discount, Mr. Eilersen calls this an important lesson learned. Under Mr. Eilersen's leadership, Novo Nordsik of Japan came up with with innovation by creating a centre of excellence for quality to detect early signs of quality issues, which was implemented globally. Mr. Eilersen believes that these consistent and sincere effort to understand how business is done in Japan is appreciated and over time forms trust.   To encourage people to stay accountable with high engagement, Mr. Eilersen delegates responsibility to staff with a clear message telling them this is their responsibility and they need to make their own decisions. Mr. Eilersen takes a bottom-up approach to gain input and feedback from people in many layers of the organization to create a project plan with high team engagement. The company also encourages people to come up with ideas on how to make the business better and gives out rewards for the best ones in order to create a culture for people to think in terms of improvement on a daily basis. To further stimulate innovation, Novo Nordisk forms project teams with a specific focus to solve a particular problem with leadership monitoring the execution. From such projects, Mr. Eilersen noticed people becoming more excited and productive, coming up with proposals that improved work efficiency by 15%. Additionally, Mr. Eilersen emphasizes the importance of having some degree of tolerance for mistakes and use them as a learning opportunity instead of blaming an individual.   Mr. Eilersen also realizes that rather than rewarding people individually, team rewards were more effective in boosting morale as Mr. Eilersen believes that for his Japanese employees, the “sense of belonging to a team is very strong and important.” Moreover, Mr. Eilersen has come to think the ultimate driver of engagement for his Japanese team comes from the satisfaction of doing a good job for a good cause and having the haraochi, the gut feeling that this is the right thing to do. Mr. Eilersen believes that this haraochi can be achieved through various discussions from several different perspectives of the organization.   To newcomers of Japan, Mr. Eilersen advises to dive in and immerse oneself completely in the culture and see things with one's own eyes on how business is done in Japan. He recalls from his first real experience in Japan, he spent much time observing how people interacted to understand the culture and way of communication. Mr. Eilersen also advises to stay approachable and spend time with your employees and customers through nomunication. Lastly, Mr. Eilersen advises leaders coming into Japan to form allies within the company and make improvements by following the Japanese guidelines of how things are done, instead of having a “I can fix this” mentality.

Referred to as the “Band Pioneer,” A.R. McAllister would help to promote the high school band movement in the early 1900's.Part one of A.R. McAllister takes us through his early years up to the National High School Band contests in the 1930s.My sources for this episode included scholarly writings from Philip Hash, Illinois State University, and Jeffry L. Kluball, Jeff Kluball, Darton College. Additionally, information was taken from resources such as School Musician Magazine, the Joliet Herald News, the Joliet Spectator, The Joliet Township High School Band Alumni Association, and other documents housed at Joliet Township High School - Central Campus.FULL BIO from the Joliet Township High School Band Alumni Association:In 1913, A.R. McAllister, a manual arts instructor who played the cornet, was asked to organize a band for Joliet Township High School. Mr. McAllister, who grew up on a farm in Jackson Township, bought a cornet at age 14 with profits he earned from selling his pig at the Will County Fair. He studied music under James H. Ward, director of Ward's Boy Band in Joliet. Prior to directing the JT band, McAllister organized the Trinity Girl's Band in 1905 and performed with local ensembles, including the Dellwood Park Band and Joliet Steelworkers Industrial Band.Under Mr. McAllister's leadership, the band won state championships from 1924-26 and national championships from 1926-28. In their hometown, the band received permanent possession of the trophy in 1928 and was praised by John Philip Sousa (see photo below). The band was exempt to play at the 1929 contest in Denver, but performed as an exhibition group. In 1931, the band regained the national title. In 1936, McAllister lead his young musicians through a week of nine performances at Radio City Music Hall where the band performed an Easter show with the Rockettes, playing for a total of 160,000 people. Peter Georgescu arrived in this country as a penniless Romanian refugee and rose to become the CEO of Young & Rubicam. This is why he's so heartsick that with flat wages, disappearing jobs, and a shrinking middle class, his kind of rags-to-riches story doesn't seem possible now. But he has a message for his fellow CEOs: we're the ones who must take the lead in fixing the economy. Marshaling deeply sobering statistics, Georgescu depicts the stark reality of America today: a nation with greater wealth inequality and lower social mobility than just about any other country in the developed world. But the problem isn't that free-market capitalism no longer works—it's that it's been hijacked by shareholder primacy. Where once our business leaders looked to the needs and interests of a variety of stakeholders—employees, community members, the business itself—now they're myopically focused on maximizing their shareholders' quarterly returns. Peter's American journey started with a gifted admission to Exeter Academy in the fall of 1954—which generously overlooked his inability to speak English and having had no formal schooling since second grade. He then went on to graduate from Princeton University, cum laude, and earned an MBA degree from Stanford Business School. In 1963 he entered Young & Rubicam as a trainee in their research department. Thirty-seven years later he retired as Chairman and CEO of Young & Rubicam with Y&R at the pinnacle of the advertising and related communications industry. Capitalists Arise! shows how the short-term thinking spawned by shareholder primacy lies at the root of our current economic malaise and social breakdown. But Georgescu offers concrete actions that capitalists themselves can take to create a better future. The irony is that if businesses do this, shareholders will do even better. In the long run, businesses can thrive only when society is healthy and strong. This book is a manifesto calling on capitalists to heal the nation that has given them so much. Peter Andrew Georgescu, Chairman Emeritus of Young & Rubicam, was born on the eve of the Second World War in Bucharest, Romania. His Romanian parents were educated in England and France. Peter's father was the Managing Director of Exxon's operation in Romania. While on a business trip to New York in 1947, the Iron Curtain fell and Peter's parents could not return to Romania. Overnight they became the enemy of the Communist regime (his father would have been killed if he'd returned to Romania). Peter and his brother were left in Romania with his grandparents and would remain apart from his mother and father for eight years. His grandfather was seized and imprisoned as a political threat, and then murdered in captivity. Shortly after his grandfather was taken away, Peter, only nine years old, was arrested along with his brother and grandmother and sent to a work camp. In 1953 his father was approached by Romanian Communist diplomats in New York and asked to spy for them in exchange for keeping his children alive. Georgescu's parents refused and went to the press, causing an international scandal. With the intervention of Congressman Frances Bolton and President Eisenhower, the boys were reunited with their parents in April of 1954. Under Mr. Georgescu's leadership, Young & Rubicam successfully transformed from a private to a publicly-held company. During his tenure, Young & Rubicam built the most extensive database on global branding and, from its findings, developed a proprietary model for diagnosing and managing brands. Within the marketing community, he is known as a leading proponent of creating unified communications programs, agency accountability for measuring the impact of communications programs, and structuring value-based agency compensation.
