The recent surge in gold prices has been described by some as a once-in-40-year gift for investors. It has been a perfect backdrop for the precious metal, driven by a weaker US dollar, escalating US-China trade tensions, and growing concerns about global economic stability. Gold equities have also participated in the rally, although not quite to the same extent as the underlying commodity. So, where to for gold from here and which companies are best placed to capitalise? To help answer those questions, Livewire's James Marlay was joined by Ben Richards from Seneca Financial Solutions and Daniel Sullivan from Janus Henderson. Ben and Dan share their perspectives on the current gold market dynamics, where they are finding value amongst explorers, developers and producers, and – most importantly, which stocks they like.  Please note this episode was filmed on 9 April 2025.

In the latest episode of Livewire's Buy Hold Sell, host James Marlay is joined by two battle-hardened commodity experts to run the ruler over one of the most volatile and recently unloved sectors of the market: lithium and battery metals. After a meteoric rise in 2021 and 2022, lithium prices have taken a sharp turn, falling significantly over the past year. This pullback has left many investors questioning whether the sector's structural tailwinds—such as electrification and the global energy transition—are still intact. Joining the conversation are Ben Richards of Seneca Financial Solutions and Daniel Sullivan from Janus Henderson Investors, who share their insights on where value is emerging and what to steer clear of. They delve into the recent price weakness, explore how far valuations have reset, and debate which companies and commodities are best positioned for a rebound. Whether you're already exposed or just lithium-curious, this episode is essential viewing for anyone trying to navigate the next phase of the commodity cycle. Recent weeks have delivered a fresh bout of volatility across global markets, driven by tariff tantrums, bending bond markets, and irritable investors. Nothing has been spared, not even commodities. Prices for iron ore have softened, copper has been smashed, and coal has continued to come under long-term pressure. But as seasoned investors know, periods of weakness can often uncover the most compelling opportunities. With that in mind, Livewire's James Marlay sat down with two commodities specialists in Janus Henderson's Daniel Sullivan and Seneca Financial's Ben Richards to pick through the rubble. They share their outlooks for key commodities, the forces shaping supply and demand, and where they're finding value — both on the ASX and globally. A few weeks ago, the Indian government formally notified the rules implementing the controversial 2019 Citizenship Amendment Act, or CAA. The law provides persecuted religious minorities hailing from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan an expedited pathway to Indian citizenship, provided they belong to the Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jain, Parsi, or Sikh communities. Notably, the law does not provide such a pathway to those who belong to the Muslim faith. The notification of the CAA rules—on the eve of India's 2024 general election—has kicked off a fresh debate over the law, its implementing provisions, and the resulting implications for the future of secularism in India. To discuss all of this and more, Milan is joined on the show this week by legal scholar M. Mohsin Alam Bhat. Mohsin is a Lecturer in Law at Queen Mary University of London, where he specializes in constitutional law and human rights. Mohsin has written extensively about law and citizenship in India.Milan and Mohsin discuss the origins of the CAA, its constitutionality, and the fine print of the CAA rules. Alperstein said commercial real estate investors are going to have to be “more diligent, more operationally focused, as they strive to add value and profitability relative to recent years when low rates, decreasing cap rates, and a high amount of leverage was a big part of the way value was created and profitability was obtained.”As for transaction volume, the current environment of higher rates, more rigorous underwriting from the lender side, and a pullback from the banks is going to make it challenging, particularly to get bigger deals done, Alperstein said.

“You can propagate the work by sharing the work. And so its exciting for me to sit down with all walks of life - every genre of person possible, professionally, athletically - and this translates to them.” In honor of National Honey Month, we're in great company with Daniel Sullivan, Owner of Shipwreck Honey and Resident Beekeeper of three iconic Pacific Northwest lodges - Salish Lodge & Spa, Cedarbrook Lodge and The Lodge at St. Edward.  In partnership with these lodges, Daniel has created bee programs that raise awareness around American beekeeping and sustaining the honeybee population, while also ensuring these lodges are able to produce enough honey to share with every visiting guest and local alike, giving all access to honey as it should be - always fresh and all natural.  As we close on Season 3 of this series and look forward to the change in seasons this fall, Daniel paints a picture of what it is like to host honey bees and humans in harmony, sharing a sweet taste of what a future with a world full of bees and honey abound looks like.  Top Takeaways [1:45] As a child growing up in Washington watching his Grandfather tend to his own bees, Daniel found himself in early adulthood wanting to similarly live a life that was self-sufficient, had a sense of freedom, and promised a sustainable and positive future.   [9:00] Honeybees create honey to keep themselves warm and to feed their own colonies during the winter. Beekeepers like Daniel must be responsible in only taking what could otherwise go to waste. [13:50] The flavor, perfume, color and bouquet of honey depends on the time of year and the plants the bees are pollinating. [17:15] Honey has numerous health benefits…topically for your skin and hair, in wound or burn treatment, as an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial ingredient in recipes, in soothing your throat and acting as a cough suppressant when you're sick, just to name a few.  [27:40] How Daniel creates an environment that is safe for the honey bees and the hotel guests alike. [39:40] Salish Lodge & Spa has been famous for over 100 years for its four-course Country Breakfast with the iconic Honey from Heaven™ service where honey from Daniel's own hives is poured from high above guests' plates onto buttery house-made biscuits. [46:35] Cedarbrook Lodge highlights an inspired menu elevating the honey from the on-property apiary that Daniel manages inclusive of seasonal scratch cocktails such as the aptly named “Bee's Knees.”  [49:55] The Lodge at St. Edward features Daniel's apiary near the bountiful chef's garden steps from Cedar & Elm restaurant, which is led by Chef Luke Kolpin, former chef at Noma in Copenhagen and Canlis in Seattle.  [56:40] The future is sweet for Daniel and his community of farmers as they collectively look to open a farm school for children and parents alike to learn about the importance of honey bees.  Visit For Yourself Salish Lodge & Spa Website | @salishlodgespa Cedarbrook Lodge Website | @cedarbrooklodge The Lodge at St. Edward Website | @lodgeatstedward Shipwreck Honey Website  | @shipwreck_apiaries Stay In Good Company Website

In this episode of Capital for Good, we speak with Heather Higginbottom, the president of the JPMorgan Chase PolicyCenter, which develops and advances sustainable, evidence-based policy solutions to drive inclusive economic growth in the United States and around the world. Having served at the highest levels of government in the State Department, the White House, and Capitol Hill, Higginbottom is one of the country's leading experts on a range of domestic, economic, foreign, and budget policy issues.   In this conversation, Higginbottom explains how the PolicyCenter allows JPMorgan Chase to work on a variety of issues related to a more inclusive economy, drawing on the firm's expertise, experience, and resources — its unique insights, perspectives, learnings, and assets — including original research through the JPMorgan Chase Institute and its global philanthropy and business and investment expertise. These include a number of areas of the firm has focused on historically, including neighborhood development (i.e., affordable housing), jobs and skills, small business and access to capital, and significant new commitments related to inclusive growth, including its recent $30 billion commitment to advance racial equity, reduce systemic racism, and help close the racial wealth divide. Using the example of the PolicyCenter's Second Chance initiative, an effort to reduce barriers to employment for people with criminal records, Higginbottom describes how JPMorgan Chase works on these issues within the firm — and with partners like the Business Roundtable and others at the industry level, including, in this case, the recently launched Second Chance Business Coalition.   Thanks for listening!Subscribe to Capital for Good on Apple, Amazon, Google, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Can you imagine what a driverless world would look like? The more you think about it, the more complicated it gets. Will there be steering wheels, a need for drivers' licenses, or road rage? Where do you even begin to think about the legalities behind this, and how will government keep up with this rapidly changing world? Luckily, for all the visionaries and entrepreneurs out there, lawmakers have their eyes on the future. In this episode, join Ed Bernardon, host of the Future Car Podcast, and Daniel Sullivan who shares his experiences and insights on the front lines as the Assistant Director of Policy at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Emmy Award and multiple NAACP Image Award-winning film, television and stage veteran Joe Morton is perhaps best known for his role as Rowan Pope in the television series “Scandal.” Morton’s television credits include a recurring role as lawyer Daniel Golden on “The Good Wife,” on the Network; five seasons as scientist Henry Deacon in the Emmy-nominated series “Eureka”; “The Cosby Show” spinoff “A Different World”; the Kyra Sedgwick-produced “Proof”; and “Grace & Frankie.” In 2016 he portrayed the role of Roy Wilkins alongside Bryan Cranston in the Emmy-nominated biopic “All the Way,” adapted from the Tony Award-winning Robert Schenkkan play.   In 2016 Morton appeared in the feature film “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” as Silas Stone, and he reprised the role in November 2017 in “Justice League.” His additional feature film credits include playing the title character in John Sayles’ “The Brother from Another Planet” and roles in “Terminator 2: Judgement Day,” “American Gangster,” “What Lies Beneath,” “Blues Brothers 2000” and “The Astronaut’s Wife.”   Recently, Morton starred as the titular role alongside Tom Hanks in Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles’ production of “Henry IV.” Staged by Tony Award-winning director Daniel Sullivan, the critically raved show featured Morton as Henry IV and Hanks as Sir John Falstaff. In spring 2016, Morton portrayed the groundbreaking comedian Dick Gregory in the one-man show “Turn Me Loose,” executive produced by Grammy Award winner John Legend. Morton was honored with the NAACP Theatre Lifetime Achievement Award and was awarded the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play. Also, he was nominated for the Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance. In October 2017, he brought “Turn Me Loose” to Los Angeles at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.   Born in Harlem, Morton was raised in a military family and spent parts of his childhood in West Germany and Okinawa, Japan, before finishing school in New York. After attending Hofstra University, Morton debuted on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning musical “Hair,” followed by his starring role in “Raisin,” the Tony Award-winning musical adaptation of Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun,” which earned him a Tony nomination and Theatre World Award for his portrayal as the embittered Walter Lee Younger. In addition, he appeared in David Hare’s “Stuff Happens” at the National Theatre in London as Colin Powell and played Serge in “Art” on Broadway (and in London’s West End) with Judd Hirsch and George Wendt.   Morton is a huge proponent of diversity in Hollywood and uses his platform to express the need for more contemporary non-white roles in television and film. Morton devotes his rare free time to writing, playing his guitar and recording music. Music has been a huge part of his life, and his talent has led him to write and score a multitude of songs for various film and TV projects.

Do you want to evangelize in a post-Christian society? There are a few things you need to know. We all proclaim the same gospel, but we all need to use different methods. The methods that St. Paul used in Athens or Rome and the approach of a missionary in India, Southeast Asia, or parts of Africa will be different than someone who lives in a post-Christian society. There are, however, universal principles that stand the test of time. Today, Mike and David go through three ages of evangelization, explain how to overcome four hurdles in evangelizing, and also three different types of evangelizing. Snippet from the Show: “No matter how opposed someone is to Christianity, you have to understand that deep down, it is what they want. It is what they most desire. It is the answer to all their questions.” SHOWNOTES: *5 Practical Takeaways: * 1) Read Evangelii Nuntiandi 2) Fast for someone at your parish 3) Pray and reflect on St. Augustine’s Prayer to the Holy Spirit 4) Read 2 Timothy 4 5) Write down and reflect on this quote “She exists in order to evangelize.” What parts of your life exemplify this? What parts do not? The first time Daniel Sullivan was introduced to solar, he was hooked. He said he knew right away that it would take off, even though it was an expensive and somewhat obscure technology at the time. His boss shut him down. And that was just the first time someone told Sullivan that his big solar bet was a loser. In the latest episode of I Made it in San Diego, a podcast illuminating the stories behind the region’s businesses and entrepreneurs, Voice of San Diego’s Lisa Halverstadt sits down with Sullivan to talk about how and why he went all in on solar despite the naysayers' warnings. Sullivan got a slow start, but his persistence eventually led to the creation of a solar company that now pulls in $50 million a year and operates in San Diego, Orange County and the Inland Empire. He says his main motivation to build the business was the California energy crisis, the oil and gas industry and his newborn son. "So it all came together for me that this is what I need to do," he said. "This is what makes sense and we can't continue to be beholden to an industry that wreaks havoc all over the world." Sullivan's road to success wasn't smooth. He explains how he went from sleeping in a garage and living paycheck-to-paycheck to running a multimillion-dollar business. "It was really a sink-or-swim situation," he said. "You know when you don't have a backstop, when you don't have a safety net, when you don't have a means to provide for yourself unless you succeed at every stop, you're very mindful of every decision you make. ... There's no room for error."

Frequent Booth One listeners will remember that Paul has appeared on past episodes, talking about his long-running hit production of Tony n' Tina's Wedding and just being his hilarious, Booth One type entertaining self. He's working on writing a sequel to that outstanding piece of audience interactive theater. We can't wait! Gary and Paul take a look at the current Broadway season, highlighting Glenn Close as Norma Desmond in the new revival of Sunset Boulevard. The NY Times says that her reinvented performance after 22 years "may well guarantee its status as one of the great stage performances of this century." And "one of those rare instances where more is truly more." An actor cannot win a Tony for the same role, even in different productions. Yul Brynner was given an honorary Tony when he appeared in a revival of The King and I. Could there be a "special" Tony Award in the offing for Close? Read the full review here. We also discuss the upcoming revival of Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes, featuring Laura Linney and Cynthia Nixon in the roles of Regina and Birdie, directed by Daniel Sullivan at the Manhattan Theatre Club. One of our favorite theater reviewers, Charles Isherwood, is leaving his post at the New York Times for points unknown. Isherwood not only reviewed Broadway and off-Broadway fare, but he was a frequent viewer and critic of Chicago and other regional theater productions. Judy Garland no longer rests in New York State. Her remains were recently exhumed and transferred to Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, ostensibly to be nearer her three living children. Now residing near the burial grounds of Cecil B. DeMille and Mickey Rooney, Judy's coffin is at rest in the Land of Angels. "City of stars, are you shining just for me?" Paul tells of his experiences watching films projected on the side of Douglas Fairbank's memorial in Forever Cemetery. Perhaps one day soon they will screen The Wizard of Oz in tribute to a great lady. A final tidbit of information for our listeners - check out Ryan Murphy's newest series, Feud: Bette and Joan upcoming on Sundays to FX. Shakespeare's 'Cymbeline' Comes to Central Park

The Public Theater’s second free Shakespeare in the Park presentation this summer is the late romance “Cymbeline,” a twisty tale of duplicity and betrayal directed by Daniel Sullivan. The cast features Shakespeare in the Park regulars Lily Rabe and Hamish Linklater as young newlyweds separated by the titular king and his conniving queen. The convoluted "Cymbeline" plot involves, among other things, a headless corpse, a beautiful heroine who fools everyone into thinking she’s a boy simply by putting on a boy’s clothes and Jupiter flying in and out of the action on an eagle’s back. The play has been in and out of fashion over the years, with many detractors over the last century or so. New York Times theater critic Charles Isherwood has seen several productions, so he has a sense of perspective to offer as he evaluates Shakespeare in the Park’s "Cymbeline" at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

You know summertime in New York has arrived when the Delacorte Theater unwraps itself for Shakespeare in the Park. The Public Theater presents two free Shakespeare works this season: The Comedy of Errors and later in the season, Love’s Labors Lost. The Comedy of Errors has been updated to the 1940s, with some musical touches, too (though not as extensive as those expected for Labors, which is billed as "a new musical"). Starring in the Comedy are actors Hamish Linklater and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, which Shakespeare fans will recognize from previous outings at the Delacorte (fans of the ABC sitcom "Modern Family" will also know Ferguson). And Shakespeare in the Park regulars may also recognize the handiwork of director Daniel Sullivan, who has become a reliable mainstay of the program in recent years with his productions of Twelfth Night, The Merchant of Venice and last summer’s As You Like It. The play turns on the confusion that results when Antipholus and his servant Dromio, visitors from Syracuse, arrive in Ephesus, where unbeknownst to them their identical twins also live. In this production each set of twins is played by a single actor. The production runs through June 30. New York Times theater critic Charles Isherwood sizes up the comedy and the errors.

Episode #134 is a different topic than usual. Instead of strictly talking Lean, today's discussion is about broader issues of healthcare quality and our United States military. Joining me are Daniel Sullivan, President and General Manager of the The Sergeant Thomas Joseph Sullivan Center (SSC), a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving health outcomes for current and former military personnel, especially those who are suffering from emerging, complicated, or currently unexplained post deployment health concerns.  Named in honor of a fallen marine, the Sgt. Sullivan Center promotes the health security of America's troops and the principle that none should be left behind. Also joining us is Gregory Jacobson, MD, a college friend of Daniel's and the co-founder and CEO of KaiNexus. The Sergeant Sullivan Center is named for Daniel's brother, Sergeant Thomas Joseph Sullivan, a veteran of the Iraq war, who died suddenly in his northern Virginia home at age 30, four years after returning from deployment. With his medical problems originating during his deployment in Iraq and continuing in the years following his return home, Sgt. Sullivan suffered a progression of unexplained health complications that included chronic pain, swelling, cardiovascular disease, and severe inflammation. His autopsy revealed life threatening problems that medical tests had not detected. Today would have been St. Sullivan's 32nd birthday, so I am sharing his story here.
