Is the traditional office a relic of the past, or is there still a case for the 9-to-5 at a desk under fluorescent lights? Is "flexible work" even possible for non-office jobs? This week, I'm digging into the provocative and often polarized debate about flexible work. This will be a dynamic conversation as I explore the intricate dance between innovation and tradition with Nik Froehlich, the CEO of Saritasa, who finds himself at a crossroads. While he champions the in-office experience, he acknowledges the pressing need to evolve with the changing tides of work culture. Together, we'll dissect the complexities of implementing flexible work arrangements without sacrificing the essence of collaboration and company culture. This conversation will go way beyond theory. We'll be unpacking real challenges executives face while talking through practical steps and real-world insights from the front lines of leadership. Regardless of whether you're a startup entrepreneur, a corporate executive, or just someone curious about the future of work, I think you'll find this conversation will offer a ton of valuable perspectives on balancing flexibility with functionality. Hopefully, you'll leave convinced that adapting to flexible work isn't just an option while simultaneously empathetic to the complexity and challenges required to make it a reality. Show Notes: In this episode of Future Focus, Nik Froehlich, CEO of Saratasa, shares his journey from a blue-collar background to leading a tech firm. Christopher and Nik discuss the intricacies of flexible working, how the COVID-19 pandemic forced companies to adapt, and the challenges and strategies in creating an effective hybrid work environment. They explore the importance of company culture, managing remote versus in-office employees, and the significance of intentional leadership. Nik and Christopher also emphasize the need for balance between flexibility and accountability, demonstrating how personalized approaches can better meet organizational and employee needs. 00:00 - Introduction 02:24 - Nik's Journey from Blue Collar to Tech Entrepreneur 12:36 - The Impact of COVID-19 on Business Operations 15:56 - Adapting to Remote Work and New Dynamics 20:20 - Challenges and Strategies for Hybrid Work 28:35 - Creating a Digital Culture: Tools and Strategies 33:00 - Generational Differences in Remote Work 33:56 - Maintaining Trust and Cohesion in Distributed Teams 39:06 - Balancing Remote Work Flexibility and Accountability 43:57 - The Future of Business: Physical vs. Virtual Presence 56:48 - Navigating Proximity Bias and Peer Perceptions 01:00:51 - Conclusion and Final Thoughts #flexiblework #futureofwork #remotework #business #leadership

Transcript available at LainieRowell.com. About Our Guest: Mandy Froehlich is a distinguished mental health advocate, educator, and author. Her professional path started as an elementary teacher who loved technology. As her story goes, she became incredibly burnt out long ago when there were no pathways to healing. Nobody wanted to talk about sad teachers, or so she was told. Although edtech and mental health might seem like completely different topics (they're not), they were her life for many years. She was a technology integrator and then a Director of Innovation and Technology, but she was trying to heal from the stress and strain of the classroom many years after she left it. Her goal was to help other people and advocate for policy change. She strives to be the mental health advocate that she needed years ago. It's no secret that teachers are leaving education in droves. So much so that it's causing drastic shifts in the ways schools will need to operate this fall. Some large school districts have as many as one thousand teacher job openings and this issue is only getting worse as post-pandemic educators are facing low wages, rising benefits costs, extreme student discipline problems, and polarizing politics. This is a crisis that has surpassed the traditional definition of a shortage. I have talked with several thought leaders about this issue, including Mandy Froehlich, who I met during one of Nicole Biscotti's Coffee Conversations on Zoom.Mandy Froehlich is a former elementary teacher, technology integration specialist, and director of innovation and technology for a number of schools in Wisconsin. She is currently an educational consultant, an adjunct professor at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and the chief operating officer of EduMatch Publishing. Mandy has written four books: The Fire Within, Reignite the Flames, Divergent EDU, and the Educators Matchbook. In this episode, we speak to Mandy about meeting teachers' basic needs, mental health support for educators, and recommendations for how leadership can support current workloads in education.Podcast Planner for Teachers and StudentsFlipboard EDU Magazine Flipboard Educators Blog Flipboard EDU Podcast Website 411 Immunitea Our focus is solely on creating natural products that leave you feeling happy and healthy. In this week's episode, host Kristin Hayes talks with Kailin Kroetz, an assistant professor at Arizona State University and university fellow at Resources for the Future. Kroetz discusses some of her research, which takes an empirical look at the scale of seafood mislabeling in the United States. Seafood is the most globally traded food commodity, with supply chains that can be particularly hard to trace, and with systematic evidence of environmental impacts from high rates of mislabeling. Kroetz discusses commonly mislabeled seafood products, identifies where more data is needed, shares ideas for mitigating some of the challenges, and explores efficient policy solutions for fisheries management. References and recommendations: “Consequences of seafood mislabeling for marine populations and fisheries management” by Kailin Kroetz, Gloria M. Luque, Jessica A. Gephart, Sunny L. Mandy Froehlich is an educator former instructional coach and Director of Innovation and Technology who passionately encourages educators to create innovative change in their classrooms. Her interest lies in reinvigorating and re-engaging teachers back into their profession as well as what's needed to support teachers in their pursuit of innovative and divergent thinking and teaching. Mandy consults internationally with school districts and post-secondary institutions in the effective use of technology to support teaching mental health for educators and how to create organizational change. Froehlich's work as a graduate instructor allows her to positively impact the next generation of instructional leaders. Her books on mental health awareness and educational engagement can be found on her website, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Edumatch publishing. Key Takeaways: Happiness is a human right. Build engagement through trust, support, and understanding what teachers need. Conversations containing emotion must always be done in person. Leaders must be explicit in determining how best to support teachers. Use the thinking protocol 1, 2, 4, and All. Organic conversations often yield the best results. Make sure you use different strategies outside of the norm to have conversations. The busier we are, the less time we have to be creative and innovative. Innovation is a teacher driven system that needs a positive culture and climate that takes teacher's needs into consideration. We need to get out of the deficit thinking trap. Schools should be about the feeling or emotion you get when you walk into the building. Successful education requires the leveling out of the inhumane practices (testing, data, etc.) with the relationship building and human aspects. People have to feel as if you know them as a human if there is to be trust. Mandy Froelich spends much of her time consulting with school districts and post-secondary institutions in the effective use of technology to support great teaching, mental health support for educators, and how to create organizational change in education. Her first book, The Fire Within: Lessons from defeat that have ignited a passion for learning, discusses mental health awareness for teachers. Her second book, Divergent EDU, is based on an organizational structure she developed to support teachers in innovative and divergent thinking. Her third book, based on educator engagement and mental health, is titled Reignite the Flames which has a companion guide/workbook titled The Educator's Matchbook.Mandy is passionate about learning and her profession in general, but her two favorite components of her position are being able to provide professional learning opportunities and present/keynote conferences. She believes that by providing these opportunities to teachers, she is in turn able to reach many more students and ultimately affect their learning experiences. Also, on a personal side note, Mandy was insanely afraid of public speaking throughout her life until she reached college. At that time she took multiple public speaking courses to try to get over her fear of speaking in front of people to the point where it was silly for her not to declare it as her minor because she had so many credits. The ability to get up in front of adults (which is not the same as getting up in front of kids) and not bawl like a baby is one of Mandy's accomplishments that she's most proud of. Just another reason she likes providing professional learning opportunities, presenting, and keynoting. At home you'll usually find her talking to her family or spending copious amounts of time telling her dog she's pretty. Mandy loves coffee and has a hard time being friends with people who don't. Mostly, she has devoted her life to finding what makes her happy…and seeing others happy fills her cup.

Welcome to Episode #28 of the Guns and Yoga Podcast.  Today I am speaking with retired States Attorney Trish Froehlich.    I met Trish and her husband this summer at a yoga training in Wichita.  We instantly connected and I knew I wanted to have her on the show.  First Responder wellness must include our colleagues in the Prosecutors Office; and not just the prosecutors but court clerks, evidence clerks, and those who work with the victims and witnesses.  Trish talks about her career as a prosecutor, her exposure to secondary trauma, and what retirement has been like. Trish has been practicing yoga since 2008 and discusses how it helped her regulate her nervous system throughout her career.  She became a certified yoga teacher after she retired and shares with us how her husband, a retired cop, decided to join her during her teacher training.    Not only are they living their best life in retirement, practicing and teaching yoga, but they get to share it with each other.  We discuss how nervous system activation impacts health, weight, and mental well-being.  She originally started practicing yoga as a means to control her asthma symptoms, and is now committed to teaching others of its life changing benefits.  If you are interested in trying yoga, regardless of whether you are brand new or have been practicing for years, I invite you to my new YouTube channel where you can access and try my yoga videos for free. I also post these videos on my main website -  WendyHummell.com.   Additionally, I am currently enrolling for my April 2022 cohort of Radical Resilience. Radical Resilience is a transformative lifestyle coaching program based on holistic habits, circadian science, and dynamic group support.  If you are looking to make a change in your life, shoot me an email to schedule a free strategy session where we can discuss whether this program might be a good fit for you.  And, as always, if you find value in this episode, make sure to share it, give us a review, and if you'd like to be notified of future episodes you can subscribe on our Podbean website or email us at wendy@bluelineyoga.com. Thanks!
