This week's Local Selection is from Dublin native and rising DJ and producer Aoise, as we invite her to soundtrack your Wednesday afternoon. The young DJ and producer is a graduate of the Sunil Sharpe, Doug Cooney and DeFeKT school of excellence, having studied DJ techniques and music production at BIFE. There have been many high hitters to come from this course and after hearing Aoise's take on tunes we look forward to what's in store for her. Her sound stems from dark, dubby techno that has developed and matured through the years, taking inspiration from the likes of Ø [Phase], Sterac, Oscar Mulero and Sleeparchive. Having shared lineups with some of Europe's heavy hitters Christoph Faust (FKA Inhalt Der Nacht), Sunil Sharpe, Tommy Holohan and Shampain, we expect to see much more of her in the future. About the release: Alarico is a young producer and dj from Milan born in 1999 and strongly shaped by late 90s/early 2000s techno by artists such as Glenn Wilson, Regis, Surgeon, Sterac and Mike Huckaby. Always seeking for groove and fast paced rhythms his style is deeply influenced by the old school era of Techno music, in this sense he wants to present his Ep on Newrhytmic Records with 4 raw and loopy cuts strictly made for clubs. "Cut Yo' Finger" is raw as it sounds. It's a very minimalistic track where groove is everything and few hi hats glues up the whole track driven by short decay percussions with a lot of rumble. "Fast Paced" is loopy and raw as well but with a bit more of a strange/trippy touch especially as soon as the pitched Rides enter the tracks. "Rotten" is the hardest of the ep. It's a track made out of a rolling bass sequence and a dissonant sequence made out of 3 violins, then hats and pads enter to create tension and a strange voice comes out of nowhere. "The Wanderer" has the aim to describe someone who is lost and wandering without a purpose while his life is passing by. The real protagonist of this track is the repeating bass sequence with a bit of Lfo and the chords in the background created using the same bass. As soon as the track goes a shaker with a slightly "off beat" hat sequence comes in and some violins enter the scene creating a climax. Mattia Trani has been toasted as "the future of Italian techno". The Italian has been active since 2012. He came onto the scene through his record label, Pushmaster Discs, and his musical output since then has been nothing short of prolific. Since 2012, Mattia has had 17 releases, 2 of which are LP's. His biography says " Mattia Trani is considered one of the most talented young artists of the techno music landscape of recent years, both Italian and European. Stefan Vincent (Dynamic-Reflection) is the provider of Bomphcast's 73rd edition to the podcast series. Amsterdam is the home base of this multi-faceted artist and it's a home that this artist can't live without. Stefan was captured by the sounds of Detroit techno, especially the sounds of Jeff Mills. Don't say we aren't good to you. Ending the year with a bang we bring you a special mix from the one and only Steve Rachmad, the longstanding Dutch techno veteran. A pivotal figure in dance and electronic music, he has cast a spell upon techno in a manner unlike any other, his music championed far and wide by a sprawling array of dj's. Never one to stand still he has channeled his creativity across a number of personalities and guises having released as A Scorpion's Dream, Adverse Match, Black Scorpion, Continuous Cool and of course Sterac. His music is machine driven, drawn on a wealth of experience and experimentation through hardware and analogue equipment whilst in the booth his approach as a dj is versatile and constantly changing. This mix was recorded at Thuishaven as part of the close of their winter season.

Dutch DJ Steve Rachmad is one of Holland's original techno producers. He's also one of the truest in term of his undiluted commitment to the music in its original Detroit-manufactured form. No wonder he carries with him a "Detroit pass" like fellow European greats Laurent Garnier, Maurizio and Luke Slater. Whether making and playing music as Sterac (his harder techno alias), Tons of Tones (his most Detroit-sounding records) or as his own groovy self, the Amsterdam fixture continues to move crowds after more than 25 behind the decks. The godfather of Dutch techno faces off with his alter-ego.
As any proper techno fan will know, Sterac is an alias of the legendary Dutch man Steve Rachmad and it has been since the 90s. Over the years, Sterac has been responsible for some classics of the genre (including the peerless album Secret Life of Machines), and recently he has been back working under the moniker on labels like Klockworks, Delsin and Mote Evolver. He also records as Sterac Electronics, however, an ever lesser used alias that is more focussed on electro sounds. As Sterac and Sterac Electronics his output joins the dots between Detroit and the Netherlands, both in the studio and the DJ booth. This podcast comes from Sterac Electronics in the wake of Dekmantel relaxing a short documentary about Steve, his musical taste, influences and views on DJing, and just ahead of him playing the Selectors stage at the festival later in the year. Starting with some glittery disco, the summery selection then dips its toe into frazzled 80s synths, dancing arps, tooting trumpets and the sweetest of vocal tracks. Stick this one on and it is sure to get your hips moving and your mouth smiling.
