We've all been there. Long nights in our lives, our work, our families. Empty boats in our finances, our work, our relationships. We find Simon experiencing a long night and an empty boat when he meets Jesus in Luke 5. Jesus invites Simon to a small, simple, act of obedience - an invitation to go out into the deeper water after teaching on the lakeshore that day and it changed the course of his life forever. When Jesus invites us into deeper water, what is our answer?
Chris O'Dell has led a fascinating life; one that planted her firmly in rock royalty's inner circle in the 60s and 70s. Befriending Derek Taylor in LA, she soon found herself working for the Beatles' Apple Corps in London. While there she was present for the recording of The White Album, Abbey Road, Let it Be, and sang in the Hey Jude chorus. She sat on the rooftop while the Beatles played their last live performance in January of 1969 and even lived with George Harrison and Pattie Boyd at Friar Park. She went on to be one of the first - if not, THE first - female tour managers, working with the likes of George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan on his 'Rolling Thunder Revue' tour. She inspired George Harrison to pen the song, "Miss O'Dell,” she's the subject of Leon Russell's “Pisces Apple Lady” and “Hummingbird," she is the “woman down the hall,” in the Joni Mitchell song, “Coyote,” and her picture can be seen on the back cover of The Stones's 1972 masterpiece, Exile on Main Street. We cover a lot of ground in this episode, but to get the full story, check out her book and website with the links below: https://www.missodell.com Miss O'Dell: Hard Days and Long Nights with The Beatles, The Stones, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and the Women They Loved Playlist: Pisces Apple Lady - Leon Russell Hey Jude - The Beatles All Things Must Pass - George Harrison Miss O'Dell - George Harrison Torn and Frayed - The Rolling Stones Just Like a Woman - Bob Dylan Follow My Rock Moment on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/la_woman_rocks Learn more about your ad choices. “Why don't you call me Miss O'Dell?” We're back after a short break! From the Beatles to the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, ELO, Santana, and all the bands in between, she saw it all. She's the woman in the hall in Joni Mitchell's' Coyote, Leon Russel's Pisces Apple Lady, the blonde seated next to Yoko and Maureen on the rooftop, and Layla's bestie. Chris O'Dell was one of rock-and-roll's first female tour managers and put in the work to keep all these boys out of trouble…for the most part! Keith Thompson is the author of The UFO Paradox: The Celestial and Symbolic World of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena. As a lifetime researcher of contact lore and a student of philosophy, psychology, and mythology, Keith Thompson is just the man for the job when it comes to wrapping our minds around these the strange reports of non-human intelligences & UAPs. Folding in depth psychology, Jungian archetypes, synchronicity, and the evidence of latent human superpowers, this episode goes a long way past the "little green men from Mars," trope, into the uncharted territory of the collective unconscious. In the Plus+ Extension, we consider the myth of Proteus in the context of "the phenomena" and its shapeshifting manifestations, exploring the constructive & correlative elements of intelligence in general. We investigate why scientific empiricism is so antithetical to the fundamental novelty of contact, and continue pulling the Jungian thread to determine if the external world can truly be mapped by uncovering the depth of the human psyche. We're going up in the world this week – longitudinally and latitudinally, with the GOAT of endurance, adventure Gothic, Michelle Paver. Michelle joins me for a big conversation about her novels Dark Matter and Thin Air – two of the most effective ghost stories of the 21st century. One takes us to the Arctic, the other to a Himalayan peak, both places littered with the dead… who may still be around. We talk about how ghost stories work, their tradition and what perhaps differentiates them from horror. We consider the challenge of writing heroes with imperial perspectives, and Michelle relates her own, eerie, dangerous experiences out in the frozen wilds. This is perfect winter listening, even if we did record it in July. Enjoy! Join us in this episode of Obsessed with Tia Walden as we delve into the common practice of reaching for caffeine first thing in the morning. We explore the impact of long nights and early mornings, particularly from the perspective of a mom with a teething nine-month-old. Discover the challenges of sleep deprivation and the struggle to find sustainable energy amidst exhaustion. In this personal account, Tia Walden shares her experience of being awake every few hours throughout the night, with a particular stretch from 1:00 to 2:30 AM feeling interminable. As the morning dawned around 6:00 AM, her little one was ready to start the day while Tia herself was left drained and fatigued—craving caffeine to provide a quick fix. However, Tia also brings her holistic nutritionist expertise to the forefront, reminding us that caffeine offers only a false sense of energy. It is a pleasure to welcome actor and musician Atticus Dean to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Atticus Dean started piano lessons at 6-years-old. As part of the Fab4ConJam online fan event, I convened these two Beatles insiders to take questions and reminisce. Chris O'Dell came from Tucson, AZ (yes! home of Jo Jo AND Linda) and was pulled into the Apple Press Office by Derek Taylor. She was a rooftop attendee as well as a one-time resident of Friar Park, witnessing the daily drama of the group as it ended, along with George and Pattie's marriage. She recalled her experiences in 2009's Miss O'Dell: My Hard Days and Long Nights with The Beatles, the Stones, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and the Women They Loved. Nancy Lee Andrews was a model, actress and briefly, in the music biz as well as a photographer. More importantly, she was Ringo's romantic partner from 1974 through 1980, and likewise a witness to much of the inside relations between the former Beatles. (She also attended the Concert for Bangladesh as a guest of her then-boyfriend, bassist and future Domino, Carl Radle.) Nancy's book of spectacular photos was published as A Dose of Rock 'n' Roll in 2008. These women have maintained a close friendship since the 70s and it was our treat to hear them recall those days during this terrific conversation.
On this episode of The It's Only Rock And Roll Podcast, Tuscon native CHRIS O'DELL tells how she parlayed a chance meeting with Beatle's publicist Derek Taylor into a career behind the scenes in the world of rock, first as secretary for The Beatles owned Apple Records, personal assistant to The Rolling Stones on their “Exile On Main Street” tour, then later as one of rock's first female Tour Managers working for George Harrison, Santana, CSNY, and Bob Dylan and more. We also cover her singing backup on a Beatles classic, living with George & Patti Harrison at Friar Park, and how Robert Stigwood quite possibly saved her from being murdered by a member of Derek & The Dominoes! ---------------------------------------------- ֎ Buy Chris's book “Miss O'Dell: Hard Days and Long Nights with The Beatles, The Stones, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton” - https://amzn.to/3tyibBw ֎ Chris's upcoming BeatleFest appearance https://www.thefest.com/guests/chris-odell-chicago-2022/ Visit the 'It's Only Rock And Roll PODCAST' online at: ● Homepage – www.ItsOnlyRockAndRollPodcast.com ● Facebook – facebook.com/ItsOnlyRockAndRollPodcast/ ● YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCFB7uJ3dg4IKSxsNny9Jiw/videos ● Instagram - @itsonlyrockandrollpodcast Be sure to check out our all-new OFFICIAL IORR PODCAST STORE!

Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy this new episode of The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we examine movies from established movie stars that have flopped at the box office, been forgotten by time, or remain hidden gems. These aren't the films that made them famous or kept them famous. These are the other ones. And, man oh man, does Sly have a bunch of other ones. We cover one movie from each decade of the movie star's career: his directorial debut Paradise Alley in 1978, the prison drama Lock Up from 1989, James Mangold's Cop Land (1997), the remake Get Carter and, finally, Bullet To The Head from 2013. We get a bad impression from podcast producer Conor O'Donnell and some sharp insight from our guest Chadd Harbold, an accomplished filmmaker with two films in theaters right now: Depraved, directed by Larry Fessenden, and Villains, starring Bill Skarsgård and Maika Monroe. He's also the writer/director of the film Long Nights, Short Mornings. The three of us discuss Sly's early career and ego-driven foibles, his reckless, action movie 80s, his career regrets and late-era resurgence. One thing we didn't discuss was this wild story involving Richard Gere on the set of The Lords of Flatbush. Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, or Overcast. Orlando Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman summed it up best: "Long night, long players."The Magic put an emphasis on length in their NBA Draft selecting Mohamed Bamba in the first round and Melvin Frazier and Justin Jackson in the second round. What do these picks mean for the Magic and how does the team move forward now?I break down the Magic's draft and what it all means with Orlando Pinstriped Post's Zach Oliver and Around the Association's Danny Thompson.
