As the Trump administration tanks the stock market and sends prices soaring even higher, Rachel and Aaron examine the stupid in “it's the economy, stupid.” Europe reconsiders a new world leader while here at home, Republican politicians become snowflakes. Plus, a chilling observation from the New York Times' chief White House correspondent, and how would Rachel have responded to Trump's boring Joint Address to Congress?Do you appreciate my fusion of political science, history, data, and current events? This week Rachel and Aaron go behind the Resolute Desk with Elon, Donald and "X Æ A-XII." They untangle a "very weird 20 minutes" from failed comedian JD Vance in Munich, start the clock on Marco Rubio's tenuous tenure as Secretary of State, and shine light on the plain-sight quid-pro-quo between Trump's Justice Department and NYC Mayor Eric Adams. Hey Strangers, #indiegame #gaming #ai Video games—and the people who make them—are in trouble. An estimated 10,500 people in the industry were laid off in 2023 alone. This year, layoffs in the nearly $200 billion sector have only gotten worse, with studios axing what is believed to be 11,000 more, and counting. Microsoft, home of the Xbox and parent company to several studios, including Activision Blizzard, shuttered Tango Gameworks and Alpha Dog Games in May. All the while, generative AI systems built by OpenAI and its competitors have been seeping into nearly every industry, dismantling whole careers along the way. But gaming might be the biggest industry AI stands poised to conquer. Its economic might has long since eclipsed Hollywood's, while its workforce remains mostly nonunion. A recent survey from the organizers of the Game Developers Conference found that 49 percent of the survey's more than 3,000 respondents said their workplace used AI, and four out of five said they had ethical concerns about its use. ======================================= My other podcast https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKpvBEElSl1dD72Y5gtepkw ************************************************** Something Strange https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRjVc2TZqN4&t=4s ************************************************** article links: https://www.wired.com/story/ai-is-already-taking-jobs-in-the-video-game-industry/ ====================================== Today is for push-ups and Programming and I am all done doing push-ups Discord https://discord.gg/MYvNgYYFxq TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@strangestcoder Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@codingwithstrangers Twitch https://www.twitch.tv/CodingWithStrangers Twitter https://twitter.com/strangestcoder merch Support CodingWithStrangers IRL by purchasing some merch. Today, I want to talk to you about indie authors. The beautiful creatures that are independent, self-published authors. I am an indie author, some of my best internet friends are indie authors and I'm sure a lot of you listening are indie authors, or at least have a friend that is. There are so many men and women (I see you, moms) out there doing the work to get their books into the hands of people all over the world. It's a lot of work. I literally have only one fully self-written and illustrated book available right now and it took me a really, long time to do that. Admittedly, I should market it more. You know how I feel, though? Like I'm bothering people when I tell them about my book. I'm so proud and so excited of what I created, but when I make a post about it, the little imposter-syndrome girl on my shoulder is like KELLI NO ONE CARES. I know know know some other authors feel that way too. I've talked to so many that feel bad over posting about and marketing their books because self-promotion feels like a bother. I believe the trick to helping the bashful Kellis of the world is showing more support to the indies. Going beyond just a “like” on an Instagram post. I'm going to hit on 7 ways to support an indie author in your life, or a random one on Instagram. Befriend them all, y'all. These little ways will add a boost of confidence and reassurance to someone that they're exactly where they need to be, doing exactly what they're called to be doing in their life, guilt free.Buy me a coffee and keep this podcast caffeinated! - https://www.buymeacoffee.com/MomswhocreateSupport the show
