My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Lorraine Norwood, author of the book The Solitary Sparrow. Lorraine is a former journalist and archaeologist who lives in Western North Carolina. Her short stories and essays have been published in Minerva Rising, New Southerner, Proud to Be: Writing by American Warriors, Volume 3, and Talking Writing, and have won awards in the Atlanta Writers Club contests. She is a member of the Historical Novel Society, Womens' Fiction Writers Association, and Author Accelerator. Her debut novel, The Solitary Sparrow, will be published in the spring of 2024. She is at work on the sequel, A Pelican in the Wilderness. The novels are part of a series set in 14th century England and France. Lorraine is also a certified Book Coach and developmental editor. She writes with an always-hungry yellow Lab, Sally, by her side and an aloof cat, Macavity, who sometimes deigns to be touched.   In my book review, I stated The Solitary Sparrow is an amazing historical fiction set in 14th century England and France. I loved the premise - a child, Meg, considered evil due to a birth deformity eventually finds her passion in medicine. But how will she move forward given her facial disfigurement, her family's station in life, and the fact that she is a woman?   Early in the book, Meg determines that she will become the first licensed female physician in English and hopes to provide care to women. She is tutored by a village healer, then a surgeon and his son, and even a school of medicine, though she must remain hidden from view because no females are allowed to attend. Despite it all, she thrives - gaining knowledge, wisdom, and even love.   If you love a story about persistence and courage, then you will love The Solitary Sparrow. Lorraine's research is top-notch and her characters come to life on the page. It's a must read.   Subscribe to Online for Authors to learn about more great books! https://www.youtube.com/@onlineforauthors?sub_confirmation=1   Join the Novels N Latte Book Club community to discuss this and other books with like-minded readers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3576519880426290   You can follow Author Lorraine Norwood Website: https://www.lorrainenorwood.com/ Social media: FB: @Lorraine Norwood X: @LorraineNorwood IG: @lorrainenorwoodwrites   Purchase The Solitary Sparrow on Amazon: Paperback: https://amzn.to/3ObBQ4e Ebook: https://amzn.to/3CIKwMK   Teri M Brown, Author and Podcast Host: https://www.terimbrown.com FB: @TeriMBrownAuthor IG: @terimbrown_author X: @terimbrown1   #lorrainenorwood #thesolitarysparrow #historicalfiction #terimbrownauthor #authorpodcast #onlineforauthors #characterdriven #researchjunkie #awardwinningauthor #podcasthost #podcast #readerpodcast #bookpodcast #writerpodcast #author #books #goodreads #bookclub #fiction #writer #bookreview *As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

In our conversation we talk about writing as a form of therapy, keeping work personal, and his life now as a teacher. We start our chat by listening to "Still Born," a poem that he hasn't read again since it was recorded at the The Low Beat on October 2, 2018. I ask then Aron where his poem came from and what has changed in his life since then.

Right now, as we each experience isolation differently, food is a comfort for many. These times are also a reminder of how much food is a vehicle for connecting with family, friends and culture. In Talking Writing: Food, we consider the use of food to convey history, community, identity, love and memory. It can also raise complex questions of class, gender equality, our relationship with nature, and ethics. Recorded online on Thursday 16 July, hear from a panel who experience and write about food in fascinating and varied ways. What is ‘normal’ when it comes to our bodies? When we think of what that is, we can’t help but be influenced by the excess of images and ideas of what we should (and shouldn’t) be. Queer bodies, obesity, bodies of colour, disability, illness and more tend to fall outside the narrow scope of the body in Australian collective thinking. For Talking Writing: The Body, we spent the evening examining what it is to move through the world with a body that can be marginalised by the limiting socially devised definition of what the body should be and do. In this event, writers discussed writing their own bodies, identity and the challenges of representation in a country that is still grappling with notions of what a ‘normal’ body looks like. Author and Judy Harris Writer in Residence at the Charles Perkins Centre, Tracy Sorensen, chaired this panel featuring author Peter Polites, queercrip poet and historian Robin M Eames, and award-winning Filipina poet and teaching artist Eunice Andrada.

This panel was curated and led by actor, writer and activist Moreblesing Maturure and featured Kaiya Aboagye, Eugen Bacon and Tyree Barnette. We have looked at regular content like blogs and podcasts for passive income.  However, there are better options for passive income that are one-time content products.  These include things like books, instructional videos, white papers, and more.  These products are excellent options since they provide recurring revenue from a single push to create it. One-Time Content Takes On Going Effort One-time is a description for the creation of the content alone.  It is not a way to describe the effort required to keep that income rolling in.  The good news is that the work to keep things going is often small and can provide a sizable return on a few hours of work.  The content itself is key to how much work will be required to keep it "fresh" and draw in more (or repeat) customers.  Beyond that, you will need to refresh ads, participate in communities, or provide interviews and feedback to bring in people. Carve Out Time The time required after your content is made available to the public should be minimal.  Thus, we have a passive income solution.  Even better, the kind of work required can quickly be scheduled around your normal activities.  These chunks of time can often be addressed in a late-night session or by getting up early once a week.  You might even be able to group your time into a weekend afternoon once a month.  Thus, all of these options should make it as easy as possible to expend the time needed for your content freshness without impacting your daily activities.  This approach can even be used to provide regular enhancements to that content with minimal time expenditures. Many Options To Choose From The number of one-time content options available makes it easy to find one that works for you.  Each of these has some strengths and weaknesses.  However, they are all common in passive income circles.  Therefore, you have numerous resources at your fingertips.  Here are a few available on this site alone.
