Proverbs 23:7 as a man thinketh in his heart For as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, “Eat and drink!” But his heart is not with you. THE MESSAGE Don't accept a meal from a tightwad; don't expect anything special. He'll be as stingy with you as he is with himself; he'll say, “Eat! Drink!” but won't mean a word of it. His miserly serving will turn your stomach when you realize the meal's a sham. HB shaw-ar Thinketh - as he estimates and calculates his future (IN DOING SO) he opens the gate to it. Are We Listening to What We Think??
Al-Qiyama or Al-Qiyamah القيامة meaning "The Resurrection",[1] or "The Rising of the Dead", is the seventy-fifth chapter (sūrah) of the Quran, with 40 verses (ayah).[2] 1-4 God is able to raise the dead 5-11 Unbelievers may mock, but they shall be overtaken by the resurrection-day 12-15 Man shall be his own accuser on that day 16-19 Muhammad rebuked for anticipating Gabriel in receiving the Qurán 20-21 Men choose this life, but neglect the life to come 22-25 Various thoughts of the righteous and the wicked on the resurrection-day 26-36 Man helpless in the hour of death 37-40 God, who created man, can raise him from the dead [3] 1 Nay, I swear by the Day of Resurrection; 2 Nay, I swear by the accusing soul (that this Scripture is true). 3 Thinketh man that We shall not assemble his bones ? 4 Yea, verily. We are Able to restore his very fingers! 5 But man would fain deny what is before him. 6 He asketh: When will be this Day of Resurrection ? 7 But when sight is confounded 8 And the moon is eclipsed 9 And sun and moon are united, 10 On that day man will cry: Whither to flee! 11 Alas! No refuge! 12 Unto thy Lord is the recourse that day. 13 On that day man is told the tale of that which he hath sent before and left behind. 14 Oh, but man is a telling witness against himself, 15 Although he tender his excuses. 16 Stir not thy tongue herewith to hasten it. 17 Lo! upon Us (resteth) the putting together thereof and the reading thereof. 18 And when We read it, follow thou the reading; 19 Then lo! upon Us (resteth) the explanation thereof. 20 Nay, but ye do love the fleeting Now 21 And neglect the Hereafter. 22 That day will faces be resplendent, 23 Looking toward their Lord; 24 And that day will other faces be despondent, 25 Thou wilt know that some great disaster is about to fall on them. 26 Nay, but when the life cometh up to the throat 27 And men say: Where is the wizard (who can save him now) ? 28 And he knoweth that it is the parting; 29 And agony is heaped on agony; 30 Unto thy Lord that day will be the driving. 31 For he neither trusted, nor prayed. 32 But he denied and flouted. 33 Then went he to his folk with glee. 34 Nearer unto thee and nearer, 35 Again nearer unto thee and nearer (is the doom). 36 Thinketh man that he is to be left aimless ? 37 Was he not a drop of fluid which gushed forth ? 38 Then he became a clot; then (Allah) shaped and fashioned 39 And made of him a pair, the male and female. 40 Is not He (Who doeth so) Able to bring the dead to life ?

We are reminded of the sacred oath that humans have taken, by housing the Divine Light within our bodies. The combination of both in one, is insan, who struggle to reconcile these two realities. The only way to reconcile this turmoil, is to dissolve oneself and transcend to the Ultimate Light. The nature of the mind is to blame and claim innocence. Its shadowy nature will always try to justify its existence. Once embedded with emotions- there is havoc. Restrict its work to outer world tasks, rather than the ego's desires for fame, glory and validation, amongst other expectations. The way to resolve the conundrum is to release yourself, your neck from the suffocation of your illusions and to give nourishment to those who are destitute, in whatever way is appropriate. Each one of us are orphans (yateem) and destitutes (fakir) asking for compassion, and the Qur'an has many examples referring to mankind as such. Since we are in the zone of duality, one aspect of us tries to reach for Divine Attributes like Generosity, Kindness, Clemency, rendering our body, our balad (city), as healthy as possible, if not, we will find ourselves filled with anger and suspicion, and other poisons-causing all sorts of depressions. The key to our contentment is that our loyalty should always be to the One and only boundless and Eternal One along with the practice of all blessings being attributed to the One who has provided them, failing which, we will reach a disastrous end. Translation by Shakir: I do call to witness this City;- And thou art a freeman of this City;- And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- And shown him the two highways? But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- (It is:) freeing the bondman; Or the giving of food in a day of privation To the orphan with claims of relationship, Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/shaykh-fadhlalla-haeri/message

To "think no evil" means to put the best possible construction on the motives and the conduct of others. It is not about evil thoughts or temptations to sin in the mind. It is about our attitude toward other people. If we are under the influence of charity we will "think no evil." Love will be our first reaction and we will not think evil until it is impossible not to. The devil has a great advantage over us in this matter because we have been hurt by the evil in others all our lives. But the Holy Spirit of God who indwells the true believer will enable him to overcome in this matter. To think evil is ungodly. To think no evil, even when the evil is obvious, is to be like Christ. We overcome evil with good, and this is a matter that is vital to our testimony as a Christian. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.

Psalms 40:17“But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.”Psalm 1391 O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/622a9079e8fb640012cb94f3. In this episode we discuss the contrasts of the worldly and biblical view of love for all mankind. While there are some similarities, the biblical view takes us further than we're able to go on our own. We need God's help to live and demonstrate a mature love that's in alignment with his Word.World View: Self-centered, temporal, measured, romanticized, emotional, sensual, reckless. (influenced by media, society, peers, music, books, magazines, etc.)Biblical View: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8Is long suffering (can endure evil, injury, and provocation without being filled with resentment)Is kind (Seeks to be useful. It will never be forward to suspect ill)Rejoiceth not in iniquity ( It takes no pleasure in doing injury or hurt to any)Rejoiceth in the truth (It takes no pleasure in the sins of others but is highly delighted to see them do well)Beareth all things (Covers a multitude of sins. 1 Corinthians 10:1-14 Exhortation abound in the Word of God, calling believers to stand! “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong” (1 Cor. 16:13). “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage” (Gal. 5:1). “…my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord…” (Phil. 4:1), and so we could go on! In this sermon, a great warning is given for the believers to stand guard against a mind inflated with pride. By looking at the example of Israel’s disobedience and the subsequent judgment that came as a result of this, the believer in Christ I warned so as not to follow suit. May the Lord speak to each one of us.

"As A Man Thinketh" by author James Allen was published in 1903 and is arguably one of the first "Self-Help" type books. His message though, the power of your thoughts and your thoughts make your reality, in my opinion, is still and maybe even more so, relevant. Yes, the language is of that time (when he uses "man" I know he means "mankind" not just men"). I recently reintroduced myself to its' words and with the help of http://www.gutenberg.org/ it is public domain and free to read share and podcast it! I know for me, it's easier to listen to a book such as this so I hope that you will get some benefit from my reading! This is part 1 of a 2 part series. 1 Corinthians 13 You cannot have opened the Bible long, before in every book, you’re confronted with the royal command, calling us on to fervent love! The New Testament epistles spare no end of space in urging us to fill up this command and there’s not a single New Testament epistle that does not contain some exhortation on love!! Amongst the many beautiful chapters in the Bible, must surely be found the thirteenth chapter of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians. Outside the life and example of our Saviour, there’s no clearer setting forth of the attributes of love than is found in this chapter. In this sermon, we place our focus on just one of the fifteen attributes; love thinks no evil. May the Lord speak to all of our hearts on this greatly important aspect of love.

These experiences have afforded him a deeper knowledge and insight into the criminal justice system and its impact on inmates and their families. It was during this last term of incarceration that Demar began to realize that he had a greater purpose. Rather than self-loathe or succumb to the negativity around him, Demar became focused on improving his circumstances by way of motivational speaking and self-empowerment. Tyson firmly believed that “As a man Thinketh in his Heart, so is he,” which comes from his favorite book by James Allen. The book laid the seeds for a paradigm shift and has become a part of Demar's lifestyle and daily mantra. From these experiences came the birth of URBAN LIFE NEWS MAGAZINE in 2014, a platform of expression and education, insight and motivation. This one articulate and dope publication combines Hip Hop - Street Culture and refined living. The Past, Present and The Future of Hip Hop Culture show-CASED tells the greatest truth. Dropping jewels and giving education through flash back pictures of neighborhood stars and legendary hustles, keeping listeners informed of the latest laws with legal essays and briefs which provide insight into Hip Hop Street culture and ultimately, reform. Demar hopes to inspire currently and formerly incarcerated persons and has worked with the Nassau County District Attorney's office on matters involving re-entry into society of gang members as well as advising juveniles detained by the system. He is married with 2 children. What we think, will be made evident in our outward actions. This means that our thoughts are nothing to be taken for granted. Our thoughts hold the power to determine our attitudes and our tomorrows. Fortunately, we get to choose what our tomorrows look like, one thought and one day at a time. Change your thoughts, and you change your world. True positive attitudes and joy do not come from a problem-free life, it comes from the choice to change your thoughts. Don't miss this important message that could very well change your life.
Ask and you shall receive - This week is a listener request! We are a little surprised it took us this long to dedicate an episode to our favorite personal & professional books. This week, we share each of our 3 favorite books, when we first read them, and the impact they have left on us. What books have made a significant impact on you? Music “Sunny” by Bensound.com. I do love the words by Jon Kabat Zin, one of the great exponents of mindfulness,Imagine:"That what you knew and what you didn't know,That what had been and what was yet to come,And the way things are right nowNo longer held even the slightest hint of anxiety or discord? "These words identify the feeling of being truly peaceful. However, despite such peaceful influences as waves rolling into shore; the sound of rain on a tin roof; or the sweet bird-song of spring; peace does not come from them, it is simply enhanced by them. Outward peace is simply useless without inward peace.Peace is something that you embody, patiently creating its place and space within you. When you are peaceful and emanate this peace to all around you, on a larger scale you are also contributing peace to the world. You are it - there is no other world. And remember people are attracted to those who are serene and quietly poised because they want some of what you exude! As James Allen wrote in his masterful work, "As a man Thinketh", in the early 1900's,"Calmness of the mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom and is the result of long and patient effort. The more serene you become clearly the more you will cease to fuss and fume and worry and grieve, and remain poised, steadfast and tranquil. Powerful words! And know that Peace conquers darkness. The darkness of anger, sadness, anxiety, depression, the sense of separation, and the feeling of isolation. It is the sunshine to the psyche and the panacea to the spirit. You must be peaceful in order to radiate it.Quote: Always find a little space in your day so that peace may surface to your conscious awareness and envelop you in its arms. Let the light in! Annemaree Rowley

Angel Quinonez has been on the show before and he's the one who recommended this book to me. There was so much valuable content that I read it a second time. Rather than just do an episode on it I thought I'd invite Angel on to share his thoughts as well. We go into the power of thought and how it plays a role in all areas of our lives. There are tons of valuable take-aways and I suggest you get the book and read it. But this show will give you a great idea of what it's all about. In this episode of I Do, We Do, we discuss lifelong learning. Learning didn’t stop for us when we walked across the stage for our high school diplomas, bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree. Learning is a key value of ours as a couple. To grow together, we constantly challenge ourselves, to grow more, and to learn more. It takes an investment in time and financial resources. In this episode, we discuss our favorite ways to learn including conferences, seminars, books, podcast, blogs, coaches, mentors, and self-reflection. Music “Sunny” by Bensound.com. What We Talked About in this Episode: We discuss our shared value for lifelong learning Learning doesn't end with formal education (like school) Lifelong learning can look like: formal education courses, conferences, seminars books, podcasts, blogs coaches, mentors, self-reflection Billy’s best learning has come from the things he has chosen to learn, not from things he was told he needed to learn We discuss how you can learn from books Every year, Billy sets a goal to read a book a week (only achieves some years) Billy believes in reading things that make you more of an expert, for him that is leadership development books Billy repeats some books because “repetition is the motor of learning” Some of those books are As a Man Thinketh, James Allen Five Dysfunctions of a Team, Patrick Lencioni Mindset, Carol Dweck We discuss how you can learn from other people “You’ll be successful because of the books your read and the people you meet.” Billy’s greatest mentor and coach has been his Dad You can learn about people through observations Billy has learned a lot through Ashley as well, in particular, empathy We’re better together because we teach other how to be better through the things we are individually passionate about We discuss our experiences learning through conferences & trainings In our most recent trip to Boston, we were in a training for facilitators of the New Politics Answering the Call We learned new thoughts on facilitating We are excited to learn more through the participants Billy recently attending the National Speakers Association Conference Billy learned best practices from other speakers Billy was inspired by the other 2,000 attendees Ashley is attending a conference this week Ashley walks away with entire notebooks of notes Ashley learns from the presenters, and alongside the other attendees and Ashley is excited to present this year! We discuss how learning is a commitment Every organization should invest in their people, because that is how the organization grows If your organization isn’t investing you, that doesn't mean you cannot invest in yourself you should always be investing in yourself It is the only invest in your life that you are guaranteed a return Ashley earned her MBA as an employee of the school, but continued to make the financial investment when she changed jobs even without her employer’s support We discuss how Ashley chooses to learn through podcasts Ashley plays podcast at her office nearly all day Ashley has learned alot from Jenna Kutcher’s Goal Digger podcast It’s a great way to get more intimate with the content Can learn in a more passive way to learn than reading You can learn from people who may never be able to meet and it is affordable!! We discuss how you can learn through reflection Reflection is taking the time to think back on past experiences and past activities If you didn’t learn in the moment, you can Ashley uses her bullet journal for reflection Journal prompts can be immensely helpful for guiding this Billy encourages clients to ask: What is right in my life? What is wrong in my life? What is missing in my life Reflection needs to be done in a quiet time We discuss our favorite ways to learn For Ashley it is conferences, podcasts, and reflection For Billy it is conferences, coaching, and books
