HEAVY Music Interviews
The Depths Of Oblivion With TOMMY CREEPER From THE WRATH

HEAVY Music Interviews

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 3, 2025 19:19

Interview by Kris PetersAussie rockers The Wrath recently released their third studio album, Into The Arms Of Oblivion, in the process affirming their position as one of this country's finest musical offerings. With over twenty years spent honing their craft, The Wrath have a self-imposed motto of tapping into differing sides of their musical psyche with each release, combining a plethora of musical riches together to dish out a sonic palate that traverses the spectrums of rock, punk, metal, industrial and gothic metal. The Wrath are not a band who are designed to be packaged neatly into one genre-specific box, nor are they a band that throws everything against the wall and hope something sticks. They are a band who love playing and creating music, with a strike rate of three albums in 22 years showcasing the band's insistence on getting things right.HEAVY spoke with frontman Tommy Creeper to find out more."With all the previous albums, if you have listened to all our stuff, they're all very different," he measured. "So when I want to write a new album, I really put effort into doing something different. For this one, we wanted to keep it simple and challenge ourselves to write it around melody; write it around being catchy and keeping it simple.""Simple is probably not the right word," Creeper corrected himself. "It's still pretty hard to write something that's, maybe technically, not so crazy, but still have all the parts and still have it sound like us. So that's where we leaned into in this one. The backup, the melodies and keeping it catchy and simple. That was the aim."In the full interview, Tommy emphasized that the singles released showcase only a portion of the album's variety and mentioned their unique performance experiences, such as a Halloween residency at Movie World, which allowed for creative freedom. He elaborated on the band's evolution, noting a shift from an emphasis on riffs to a focus on songwriting and melody, reflecting their growth as musicians and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

There's arguably no superhero in existence that has been reimagined, redefined, or reinterpreted more than Batman.  No matter how many times he's been rebooted, audiences are always willing to come back to Gotham City's greatest defender.  With so much Bat content out there, there's plenty to dissect, analyze, and of course, rank!  This podcast is dedicated to a surgical evaluation of Batman's history, with a focus on ranking several topics in the world of Batman, among other classic Bat themes and characters. Join hosts Daniel Cohen, Pop Break's former Film Editor, and Kris Ingersoll, co-host of the Media/Lit podcast, as they bring on several guests every month to share their passion for the one and only Dark Knight.  From Adam West to Robert Pattinson, no bat stone will be left unturned.  Bottom-line: If you're a Batman fan, this is required listening. It's the beginning of a new year, which also means the beginning of this year's theme on the Batman by the Numbers podcast; World's Finest.  Yes, this year we celebrate the other big DC superhero, the one and only Man of Steel, Superman!  As this year will not only bring a new DC Universe to film, but another massive Superman film from James Gunn, so we got to give everyone's favorite Kryptonian his due. As this is a Batman podcast though, we'll also be focusing on how Batman and Superman work, or don't work together.  As we all know, they have differing philosophies on how to fight crime and corruption.  In kicking off this year's theme, we dug up a gem from the late 90s that explores this theme rather well; The Batman/Superman Movie, otherwise known as the three-episode arc entitled “World's Finest.”   This first meeting of the animated series versions of Batman and Superman gives us everything; The Joker.  Lex Luthor.  Conflict between the heroes.  Harley Quinn.  Giant robots.  What else do you need? Daniel and Kris are joined once again by podcasting director of the pop break, Alex Marcus, as they dive into every detail imaginable with this movie, including the eternal question every DC fan has asked?  Who comes out on top – Batman or Superman. If you're in need of not only a Batman animated series throwback, but a Superman one as well, this is the episode for you. Also…find out why Alex Marcus has a childhood grudge with this movie that still hasn't healed!

Theme Park News in a Minute

- The biggest news this month was the opening of the Donkey Kong Country expansion of Super Nintendo World and Universal Studios Japan. This long awaited expansion opened on December 10th, and has had rave reviews from visitors. While POVs of the Mine Cart Madness coaster, look fun, but not super thrilling, the feedback on the ride has been very positive. Similar to the Mario Kart ride that anchors Super Nintendo World. This is not a thrill attraction, it is a family attraction. The best thing from what I can see from this expansion, is just adding space to Super Nintendo World. - Here in Australia we have had two massive openings in the last month, with both Movie World and Dreamworld adding their new lands, the Wizard of Oz Precicnt and Rivertown. - Starting with Movie World's new precinct dedicated to the Wizard of Oz, it opened on the 20th of December, without a soft opening period, with it's two new coasters: - Kansas Twister: A Vekoma Family Boomerang Racer, twin tracks with a top speed of 58km/h and a 95 cm (37-inch) height requirement - Flight of the Wicked Witch: A Vekoma Suspended Family Coaster, with a top speed of nearly 67km/h and 105 cm (41-inch) height requirement I've seen really mixed reviews of the lands so far. People have been damning for the lack of shade in the outside portion of the land, which is a danger for any Summer opening of a Theme Park land in Australia. They have routinely praised the indoor queue elements of the two rides. The rides themselves haven't been big hits, but I'm going to hold my judgement on them for now. - Over at Dreamworld, we have seen on the 23rd the opening of Rivertown. This new land takes the place of ABC Kids World, that kind of half merged into Kenny and Belinda's Dreamland when Dreamworks IP licencing deal was finished. Amusing that are of the park was originally known as Rivertown, so it's kind of return. Not really though. I'll get to that in a second. The new land brings one new, and one completely refurbished attraction. The new attraction Jungle Rush Vekoma switchback coaster with a low 95 cm (37-inch) height requirement, and high top speed of 80 Kmph. This is the first of it's kind of coaster in the world. The second attraction Murrissippi Motors, is a significant revamping of the Vintage Cars, that were previously on the other side of the park. - Elsewhere in theme Parks, Disney has announced that beloved Australian cartoon dog Bluey is coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World, as well as being added as a meet and greet to the Australian sailings of the Disney Cruise Line from next month. This comes on the back of Bluey's World, opening here in Brisbane at the start of November. Exactly what is going to happen at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, remains to be seen. I would expect to see meet and greets happening fairly quickly. - Universal Orlando has filed permits for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit to be removed, and replaced with a proposed new attraction. They have stated the existing ride will close in September 2025. The submitted plans, showed that the entire ride footprint plus some backstage area's near the New York area of the park, have been marked for the removal and replacement permit. The plans are obviously silent on what will replace the ride, but it is possible that this new area, might mean that the ride replacing it could be entered to from the New York area, rather than the current entrance near Minions Land at the front of the park. The wild speculation at this point, is that it could be a long awaited Ghostbusters attraction, running out of the New York section. - Disneyland have opened a new Haunted Mansion themed gift show, Madame Leota's Somewhere Beyond, which went in the space of the former Splash Mountain Fastpass distribution area. - Six Flags has submitted plans this week to "ALTER" rather than "Demolish" their "KINGDA KA/ ZUMANJARO" rides, which have been announced as being removed.

Hear about travel to Queensland's Gold Coast as the Amateur Traveler talks to Leanne and Lyle from BeachTravelWine.com about one of their favorite beach destinations. https://amateurtraveler.com/travel-to-queenslands-gold-coast/ Why should you go to the Gold Coast? Leanne and Lyle say, "We go for lots of different reasons, but I guess the main one would be, the stunning beaches, and I know lots of places have stunning beaches, but this would have to, I think, be Australia's best strip of beaches, and it's the best surfing beach area, in Australia. It has a really interesting nightlife too. It's the nature, it's right there at the mountains as well and it's adventure. It's got a nickname of the Glitter Strip or, our Glamour Strip. It's it's not Las Vegas by any stretch of the imagination, but it's got that feel about it." Leanne and Lyle lay out a week-long itinerary: Day 1: Start your visit in the middle of the Gold Coast, in Surfers Paradise. Explore Cavill Avenue, a pedestrian-only strip with attractions like wax museums and Ripley's Believe It or Not. Stroll along the beachfront walkways and enjoy the beautiful beaches and surfers. Check out the iconic Surfers Paradise beach area and consider visiting the Q1 building for breathtaking views of the Gold Coast. If you're adventurous you can climb the outside of the building. Keep an eye out for the meter maids made famous by the Beatles. Day 2: Head about 40 kilometers inland from the Gold Coast to Mount Tamborine, a mountainous area known for its lush rainforests. Explore the little town of Tamborine and the Gallery Walk, featuring craft shops, pottery, and more. Enjoy the Rainforest Skywalk and explore Lamington National Park, known for its hiking trails, waterfalls, and lookouts. Consider hot air ballooning or visit local wineries and coffee plantations. Day 3: Experience whale-watching cruises starting from South Port Marina. You'll have a chance to see humpback whales from June to November. After the cruise, explore the South Port Marina area and enjoy the beautiful views. Consider dining at local surf clubs and taking a stroll along the Tweed River with its picturesque views. Day 4: Visit Pacific Fair, a large shopping center with various shops, food courts, and outdoor areas. Explore Broadbeach, known for its range of restaurants and cafes. You can visit Kurrawa Surf Club for lunch, take coastal walks, and enjoy the park. Day 5: Explore Coolangatta and Rainbow Bay, where you can visit the iconic Snapper Rocks and enjoy the beach and local restaurants. You can also visit Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, where you'll encounter Australian wildlife, see wild lorikeet feedings, and enjoy various animal encounters and activities. Day 6: Take a day trip to Moreton Island, known for the Tangalooma Wrecks, sunken ships that create a unique snorkeling experience. Enjoy the underwater scenery with coral and various fish species. You can also participate in dolphin feeding, where wild dolphins swim close to shore to take fish from your hand. Day 7: Spend a relaxing day, perhaps visiting a spa or wellness center at your accommodation. Enjoy the beach, swim, and unwind, taking in the serene surroundings of the Gold Coast. Some optional activities would include exploring some of Australia's best theme parks including Movie World, Dream World, and Wet'n'Wild. Consider purchasing a multi-day park pass to experience all the rides and attractions these parks offer. You might also check if there are any local sporting events happening during your stay, such as NRL or Aussie Rules games. Fans of racing should think about attending events like the Gold Coast 500 V8 Supercars race or the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia. In both events, cars race through the streets of the Gold Coast. For a side-trip consider a day trip to Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, which is only about a 45-minute train ride away. Explore Brisbane's attractions, such as the Botanic Gardens, South Bank, and the River City's waterfront. You can attend unique cabaret shows like "Dracula's" or "Outback Spectacular" to add some excitement to your evenings. Be aware of the two weeks in November when kids Queensland and New South Wales visit the Gold Coast for "schoolies" celebrations. This is Australia's version of spring break for recently graduated high school seniors. It might not be the ideal time for a visit if you're looking for a quieter experience. If you are looking for a mix of glamour, beach, and nature, then consider Queensland's Gold Coast.

A keel-laying ceremony took place at Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku to officially mark the start of the revolutionary ship's physical construction, with Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku senior executives and teams in attendance. The keel laying, a longstanding maritime tradition, involved a 3,000-ton crane lifting a massive steel block that is placed into the new ship's building dock and on top of freshly minted coins, which represent the shipyard and cruise line. The coins are meant to bring luck during construction, and they will be retrieved and given to Icon's captain and crew before setting sail.Icon will set sail next year with the latest innovations and signature features Royal Caribbean's teams have imagined and reimagined in bold, new ways, including a shift toward cleaner energy. The first of three Royal Caribbean ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) – the cleanest fossil fuel available to cruise ships today. Combining LNG with a lineup of the cruise line's proven applications, such as shore power connection and waste heat recovery systems that repurpose excess energy to help power the ship's operations, Icon will be the next important step in Royal Caribbean's journey toward a clean-energy future.Signed, sealed, delivered… Celebrity Beyond. Exactly 20 years ago – on 5 April 2002 – the first two ships in the fleet were christened A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNA in Rostock. A-ROSA celebrates the anniversary on board its ships with an A-ROSA United Event, where guests celebrate together with the crew until late at night. With the introduction of the A-ROSA brand, river cruises were offered for the first time to a younger clientele – detached from conventions, casual, active and full of highlights on board and ashore. The company has always remained true to this concept.Review of the christening of A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNAAfter a construction period of only twelve months in the Neptun Yard Rostock, the two innovative river ships A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNA received their official names during a double christening ceremony on 5th April 2002 in Rostock's city harbour.Godmother of A-ROSA BELLA was the 18-year-old The Honourable Anna Sterling, daughter of Lord Sterling of Plaistow, Chairman of P&O Princess Cruises. A-ROSA DONNA was christened by Anja Mager, 19 years old and an office management trainee with Seetours in Rostock. After an experience ship tour and reception in the coffee house on board, the guests were invited to the dinner “La BELLA DONNA” with live entertainment in the Nikolaikirche Rostock.Immediately after the christening, the two 860-ton ships left the Rostock overseas port expertly packed and secured on a barge for the Danube delta.History of A-ROSAThe A-ROSA brand was founded in 2000 by Seetours, the German offshoot of P&O Princess Cruises. Shortly after the deployment of the first two Danube ships, the company was taken over by Deutsche Seereederei in 2003 and the Danube fleet was expanded by two more ships. The Rhône was introduced as a new trade lane in 2005, on which A-ROSA STELLA and LUNA have been cruising ever since. In 2009, the first cruises on the Rhine started and the financial investor Waterland bought A-ROSA. After three classic Rhine ships, two Rhine-Main-Danube ships were put into service in 2012 and 2014 with the A-ROSA SILVA and FLORA. In 2013, Jörg Eichler came on board as managing director and introduced the premium all-inclusive fare and family cruises with Kids Club from 2014.With the Seine, the second French cruising area was added to the portfolio in 2017. After the takeover by the British financial investor Duke Street in 2018, the A-ROSA ALVA set sail on Portugal's Douro. In the 20th anniversary year of 2022, a total of twelve A-ROSA ships will be sailing in five European destinations. In May 2022, the A-ROSA SENA, the most innovative ship in the fleet, will join them, offering more space for the A-ROSA concept – spacious balcony cabins, a dedicated Family Area with Kids Club, several restaurants and bars as well as a particularly large wellness and fitness area. Thanks to a hybrid drive system with battery storage, it is the most climate-friendly cruise ship on Europe's rivers. A-ROSA also presented its new orientation from 2023, where even more quality and individuality will be offered with a PremiumPLUS range. And more... This weeks guest is another Aussie making it in Hollywood, Josh Futcher. Josh had big dreams of making it as an actor and living on the gold coast, he did the thing that most south east Queenslanders do who wanna be actors – he got a job at warner brothers movie world when he was a teenager. It wasn't until he was 20 that he had his first taste of the actors life and ever since he has been hooked. In this weeks episode we talk about his views on when to move to LA, his successes, how he earns money now as well as depression how therapy can help during those times when it all feels like it isn't coming together. I also want to apologise in advance, I changed where I sit in my apartment, changed the mic and there is a little feedback that despite best efforts I wasn't able to reduce. Regardless of that, I hope you enjoy this episode with Josh.
