Joseph Seresin

Guest favorites Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci join the Matts for James Bonding, or do the Matts join them for The Big Ones? Either way, it's the podcast crossover event of the century and it's all about Vesper Lynd's moral dilemma in Casino Royale. And there's also a little bit of Nick Nack. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
M, the Head of the British Secret Service, assigns James Bond, 007, to play against and bankrupt Le Chiffre, the paymaster for a SMERSH-controlled trade union, in a high-stakes baccarat game at the Royale-les-Eaux casino in northern France. As part of Bond's cover as a rich Jamaican playboy, M also assigns as his companion Vesper Lynd, personal assistant to the Head of Section S (Soviet Union). The CIA and the French Deuxième Bureau also send agents as observers. The game soon turns into an intense confrontation between Le Chiffre and Bond; Le Chiffre wins the first round, cleaning Bond out of his funds. As Bond contemplates the prospect of reporting his failure to M, the CIA agent, Felix Leiter, gives him an envelope of money and a note: "Marshall Aid. Thirty-two million francs. With the compliments of the USA." The game continues, despite the attempts of one of Le Chiffre's minders to kill Bond. Bond eventually wins, taking from Le Chiffre eighty million francs belonging to SMERSH. Desperate to recover the money, Le Chiffre kidnaps Lynd and tortures Bond, threatening to kill them both if he does not get the money back. During the torture, a SMERSH assassin enters and kills Le Chiffre as punishment for losing the money. The agent does not kill Bond, saying that he has no orders to do so, but cuts a Cyrillic 'Ш' for шпион (shpión, Russian for spy) into Bond's hand so that future SMERSH agents will be able to identify him as such. Lynd visits Bond every day as he recuperates in hospital, and he gradually realises that he loves her; he even contemplates leaving the Secret Service to settle down with her. When he is released from hospital they spend time together at a quiet guest house and eventually become lovers. One day they see a mysterious man named Gettler tracking their movements, which greatly distresses Lynd. The following morning, Bond finds that she has committed suicide. She leaves behind a note explaining that she had been working as an unwilling double agent for the Soviet Ministry of Internal Affairs. SMERSH had kidnapped her lover, a Polish Royal Air Force pilot, who had revealed information about her under torture; SMERSH then used that information to blackmail her into helping them undermine Bond's mission, including her own faked kidnapping. She had tried to start a new life with Bond, but upon seeing Gettler—a SMERSH agent—she realised that she would never be free of her tormentors, and that staying with Bond would only put him in danger. Bond informs his service of Lynd's duplicity, coldly telling his contact, "The bitch is dead now.

Today, we're donning our tuxedos and stepping into the high-stakes world of espionage with the 2006 James Bond reboot, Casino Royale.Casino Royale marks a significant shift in the Bond franchise, introducing Daniel Craig as a more rugged, emotionally complex 007. Gone are the over-the-top gadgets and eyebrow-raising one-liners of previous Bonds. Instead, Craig brings a raw, visceral intensity to the character, along with a vulnerability we hadn't quite seen before. The film, directed by Martin Campbell, reboots the series, taking us back to Bond's first mission as a 00 agent. It's not just about the action (though there's plenty of that), but also about how Bond evolves into the iconic character we know. The high-octane opening sequence, the breathtaking parkour chase, and, of course, the tense, high-stakes poker game at Casino Royale are masterfully executed.Eva Green's portrayal of Vesper Lynd adds depth and intrigue, offering a love interest who's far more than just a 'Bond girl'. She's intelligent, enigmatic, and plays a crucial role in shaping Bond's character. And let's not forget Mads Mikkelsen's chilling performance as the villain, Le Chiffre.Casino Royale isn't just about physical battles; it's a psychological game, exploring themes of trust, betrayal, and the personal cost of being a spy. The film redefined what a Bond movie could be and set a new standard for the franchise. So, Dads, let's discuss how Casino Royale changed the Bond universe, the gritty realism of Daniel Craig's Bond, and maybe share some stories about our own less-than-glamorous attempts at suave sophistication (we've all been there).Shake up your martinis, and get ready for a deep dive into "Casino Royale" on this episode of Bad Dads Film Review.
The world waited patiently to see how they could follow up from Casino Royale….. and this is what we got. We are back in the Daniel Craig era this week to discuss his second outing as Bond. Join Andrew, Blane, and Corey as we discuss how NOT to dispose of your friend's corpse, why too many cuts can ruin your film, and for god sakes let Vesper Lynd go! At the end of the episode, we will offer our Awards & Judgments to see where this movie lands in James Bond History! Judgment Podcast LinkTree Judgment Email Music by brolefilmer from Pixabay

Welcome back to another episode of Movies that Make Us. We've survived the year that is January and we've moved into 00February. We're taking a look at the Daniel Craig run as James Bond, and this week is Casino Royale. Daniel Craig reinvents the beloved spy and puts his own spin on the character, bringing new levels of intensity and physicality to James Bond. This is actually the third film version of Ian Fleming's 1953 novel of the same name, which is actually the first James Bond film. It's the story of a young, raw, and unpolished Bond, who falls deeply for Vesper Lynd while trying to infiltrate a high stakes poker game against Mads Mikklesen's villain Le Chiffre. What are your thoughts on the film? Its true- Christine Granville was the most highly decorated female spy of WWII and Ian Fleming had loved her. She was the inspiration for his first Bond girl Vesper Lynd (played by Eva Green in the 2006 version of Casino Royale.)Casino Royale was his first book and he met Chrisitine while working in British Intelligence. She was beautiful, resourceful, and incredibly courageous. I am placing Eva's picture and Christine's picture side by side at Facebook/1001 Heroes and I'll let you decide. In this mission debrief for CASINO ROYALE, we identify the iconic elements we would use to describe it as "the one with", shake the Bond cocktail and pick this film's most potent ingredients, toot the horn for underappreciated elements, round up our favourite trivia tidbits, and give our final top/middle/bottom rankings. James Bond's first "007" mission leads him to Le Chiffre, banker to the world's terrorists. In order to stop him, and bring down the terrorist network, Bond must beat Le Chiffre in a poker game at the Casino Royale. Bond meets a beautiful British Treasury official, Vesper Lynd, who is assigned to deliver his stake for the game and watch over the government's money. But, as Bond and Vesper survive a series of lethal attacks by Le Chiffre and his henchmen, a mutual attraction develops. The recording took place on August 31st, 2022 in the USA and Australia. The Stinking Pause podcast – bringing you classic movie reviews since 2013 Incredibly…it's our first James Bond 007 movie review in nearly ten years of the podcast., So we thought….let's review two – and there is something of a method in our madness here as we take a look at: Casino Royale (2006) and Quantum of Solace (2008) James Bond (Daniel Craig) goes on his first mission as a 00. Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen) is a banker to the world's terrorists. He is participating in a poker game at Montenegro, where he must win back his money, in order to stay safe amongst the terrorist market. The boss of MI6, known simply as "M" (Dame Judi Dench) sends Bond, along with Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) to attend this game and prevent Le Chiffre from winning. Bond, using help from Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright), Rene Mathis (Giancarlo Giannini), and having Vesper pose as his partner, enters the most important poker game in his already dangerous career. But if Bond defeats Le Chiffre, will he and Vesper Lynd remain safe? …and Is there solace in revenge? James Bond (Daniel Craig) and M (Dame Judi Dench) sniff a shadowy international network of power and corruption reaping billions. As Bond pursues the agents of an assassination attempt on M, all roads lead to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a world-renowned developer of green technology. Greene, a nasty piece of work, is intent on securing a barren area of Bolivia in exchange for helping a strongman stage a coup there. The C.I.A. looks the other way, and only Bond, with help from a retired spy and a mysterious beauty, stands in Greene's way. M wonders if she can trust Bond, or if vengeance possesses him. Can anyone drawn to Bond live to tell the tale? “When someone says "We've got people everywhere", you expect it to be hyperbole! Lots of people say that. Florists use that expression. It doesn't mean that they've got somebody working for them inside the bloody room! Achtung SPOILER!

We go back to the start of the primordial ooze from which the entire James Bond franchise springs forth from. And what an ooze it is! Not only do we discuss the original Casino Royale novel, but we also talk about Ian Flemming and his issues, which bleeds into the issues we have with Bond’s premiere. Spoiler alert: we find it rough. How rough?? We felt the need for a special trigger warning for this one. That’s how rough. Trigger Warning: a more in-depth discussion about misogyny, violence against women and sexual assault than our usual episodes. — Hosted by Chris Nyarady and Keegan Flick-Parker Edited by Chris Nyarady Logo by Keegan Flick-Parker Boozing & Bonding Theme by MissingNo (Check them out at missingnoband.bandcamp.com) Website: www.boozingandbonding.com
Przewoziła tajne dokumenty do Anglii. Internowany to inaczej mówiąc uwięziony. To miasto, Zakopane, leży w pobliżu Tatr. Tatry to najwyższe góry w Polsce. W jakich? Np. w 1944 roku pomagała partyzantom we Francji. Nazwał go James Bond.

FALDER FOR MONTENEGRO Jeg havde planlagt to stop i Montenegro. Filmen The Dark Side of the Sun, som var Bratt Pitts første hovedrolle, var filmet i Kotor i Montenegro.
Zdravo! In the last episode of the Radio Vagabond, I was in Prizren Kosovo. From there I took a 300km bus ride west to my next destination, Montenegro! It was a country I had never seen before and the trip took me back through Albania which borders this small but beautiful land. Before I get into the details of this leg of my trip, I must say that travelling by bus through the Balkans is a great way to get from place to place in this region. The bus is nice, it's easy and best of all it's relatively cheap. FALLING IN LOVE WITH MONTENEGRO During my visit to Montenegro, I had planned two stops. The first was Ulcinj, a little town on the southern coast of the country and Kotor which was famous for its very old-world atmosphere. In Ulcinj I'd booked an Airbnb titled ‘New Cozy Apartment with Perfect Sea View' and it did not disappoint. It did have an incredible view and was just perfect for my needs. I've included a few pictures on TheRadioVagabond.com. I rented the apartment from Marko, a 24-year old student at the University of Tourism and Hospitality. He even went the extra mile and had his father pick me up at the bus station. I think he's going to do quite well in the hospitality industry. MORE ABOUT ULCINJ Ulcinj has an urban population of just over 10,000 people with the vast majority of them being Albanian. It is the centre of the Albanian community in Montenegro. Incredibly it is one of the oldest settlements along the Adriatic coast. Founded in 5th century BC, it had been part of the Roman Empire at one point. During the Middle Ages, it was under Southern Slavic rule for a few centuries and it has also been part of the Republic of Venice as well as the Ottoman Empire. As you can imagine this place is just steeped in history. Today it is a popular destination for tourists because of its 13km long beach (called Long Beach), Lake Šas, Ada Bojana Island and for its two-millennia-old Ulcinj Castle, which was exactly the place I was heading as soon as I settled in. MONTENEGRO NICE TO KNOWS Before I continue on with my story about my adventures in Montenegro, I'd like to share a few more details about this lovely country. It's situated on the Adriatic coast in South-eastern Europe. As I've mentioned it is a small country, home to only 622,000 people and it is only about 14,000 square kilometres in size. That's about the size of Connecticut in the US and is even smaller than my own tiny home country of Denmark. The landscape is diverse with rugged mountains, a narrow strip of beaches, azure water and picturesque coastal plains. Montenegro has a Mediterranean climate, winters are relatively mild and wet while summers are long, warm and dry. In the mountains of Montenegro, you'll find alpine conditions throughout the year. ULCINJ CASTLE AND OLD TOWN Seeing Ulcinj Castle or “Kalaja” is a sight to behold. It's also known as Ulcinj Old Town and the ancient castle and its surrounding neighbourhood is what makes this place very special. Interestingly, the castle and old town were built on a small peninsula to the right of the Rana Gulf, which is part of the Adriatic Sea. The rest of the city which is more modern was built outside the castle and its fortress. Ulcinj's Old Town is actually one of the oldest urban architectural complexes on the Adriatic Sea. It's been said that some people feel that the castle resembles a stranded ship with its arresting narrow and curved streets which were very typical in medieval times. I found myself marvelling at what a fascinating place this was to walk around as the sunset on the coastline. Two and three-story stone houses are packed closely together and are decorated with elements of the both the Renaissance and Baroque periods. It is in fact, considered one of the most unique representations of medieval architecture in Montenegro. As the sun goes down on an interesting day, I find myself sitting at a lovely restaurant sipping a glass of wine and watching the sun disappear into the Adriatic Sea. This is the good life... A FEW OF THE LITTLE-KNOWN FACTS ABOUT MONTENEGRO Despite being known as a stunning summer destination because of its sun-drenched beaches, Montenegro's nickname is derived from its epic mountains. The name comes from the Italian ‘monte' means mountain and ‘negro' means black. So, Montenegro is the land of the Black Mountain. Speaking of beaches, Montenegro has 117 of them along 293 kilometres of coastline and they come in all manner of terrain. You'll find everything from rocky ones to sandy ones, tiny hidden ones and glorious pink pebble ones. Montenegrins are known to be very relaxed and don't take life too seriously. In fact, they've developed their own set of commandments to live by. Among them are: “Love thy bed as you love thyself”; “If you see someone resting, help him”; and “If you have the urge to work, sit down, wait and you'll see it will pass.” This is a culture I can truly get behind :-) Now I'm fairly certain that for those 007 fans out there when I mentioned Montenegro, you probably conjured the scenes out of Casino Royale where Bond and Vesper Lynd were sipping champagne on a train, gambling in Hotel Splendid's casino and recuperating in a stunning seaside hospital in Montenegro. These scenes put Montenegro on the map with thousands of people booking their next vacation there as soon as the film hit the cinemas. Well, I have some bad news...it wasn't actually filmed in Montenegro. Not even a second of it. Montenegro's rail doesn't serve champagne, the casino was filmed in the Czech Republic and the hospital scenes in Italy. BUT that doesn't mean that this country isn't still one of the most beautiful places I've been to. On the topic of movies and films, one thing I'm not sure you would know is that in 1988 The Dark Side of the Sun, Brad Pitt's debut as a leading man was filmed in Kotor in Montenegro. He was paid a grand total of $1,523 for seven weeks of work. Even though he was paid very little, the experience must have been a memorable one because in 2010 when he was still married to Angelina Jolie, Pitt brought her to Montenegro to show off the absolute beauty that this country has to offer. ON MY WAY TO KOTOR The next stop on my journey was where Brad Pitt filmed his first leading role, Kotor. So, after two splendid days in Ulcinj, I hopped on another bus and found myself mesmerized by the stunning coastline. I absolutely couldn't wait to get settled so I could go out and start exploring Kotor. But, upon arrival, I had a really strange surprise at the hostel I had booked. I had missed something on the fine print on the booking site. Who even reads that stuff? Anyway, I found myself standing in the reception of the hostel where I had booked accommodation and was told that I was not allowed to stay there because I was too old!!! Their policy stated that only patrons between the ages of 18 and 40 would be allowed to stay. The worst part was they didn't even look at my passport to see how old I was. Devastated, realising I could no longer pass for 40, I made my way down the narrow streets to another hostel that was apparently for ‘old people'. I was only marginally comforted by the fact that Brad Pitt would've also been turned away as he is a year older than me. I was pleased when I walked into the new hostel, explaining my circumstances to hear the receptionist say, “We don't care about your age!” and he and I chuckled at my passing comment that I couldn't hide that I was over 40. I was actually not the only gentleman over 40 that felt offended by this ageist policy, a 70-year-old man I had a chat with said he'd been arguing with the same hostel for ages. He had even challenged the guy at the front desk to a foot race to the top of a hill with the terms that if he won, he would be allowed to stay there. Unfortunately for both of us, they didn't take the bait. WHAT A QUAINT LITTLE TOWN Once I checked into my new hostel in the old town of Kotor, I was ready to go exploring. The town was wonderful, narrow cobblestone streets with no cars and very old houses. I decided to stop off at a restaurant that sat opposite an incredible cathedral which was built in 1166. Behind it, I could see a huge mountain that perfectly framed this little town. It was almost as if I had been transported to the middle ages myself. I hadn't eaten yet and it was already 4:30 in the afternoon and I was starving. Happily, I was treated to a very late lunch and an ice-cold beer. Heaven! The following morning, I went exploring to find a neat little breakfast spot. And, yes, I did get breakfast instead of starting the day with a beer, even though my breakfast hunt the day before happened in the afternoon, I wouldn't recommend drinking on an empty stomach ;-) Unfortunately, it wasn't the perfect sunny morning I had hoped for but there were still a lot of people in town because a huge cruise ship had just arrived in town. I've actually never seen a ship this big before and I was particularly surprised that such a big ship could make it there. As you can see from the map it is a very unique coastline where ships have to pass through very narrow straits to get to the Kotor harbour. As I made my way through the old town of Kotor I was struck by how very Game of Throne-ish it felt. I found myself on a free walking tour where I was treated to the rich history of this town. AN INTERVIEW WITH PHILIP After the tour and a bit of food, I went back to the hostel to speak to the hostel owner Philip. We had another chuckle about my ageist experience the day before and my dismay at not being able to pass for 40 anymore. We spoke a little about the cruise industry and Philip told me that the largest cruise ship to ever dock in their harbour was an incredible 330 metres long. (insane!) I also marvelled at how much I felt like I was on the set of Game of Thrones and Philip had this to say: “It's very interesting, about the history of the city, nobody actually knows how old it is, but we all think it's about 15 or 16 centuries-old...which means it was built in approximately the 5th century” He added that the old cathedral I visited the day before was actually older than the ill-fated Notre dame Cathedral in Paris. Philip has the most incredible knowledge around the history of this old land but a relatively new country which only won its independence in 2006. We continued to talk about all the wonderful sights in Montenegro and Philip recommended that you spend at least a week in Montenegro to see the full country. I do urge you to visit Philip and his hostel, Montenegro Hostel B&B, which you can book on Hotels25.com. When you go please remember to say hello from me! In the next episode, I'll be taking you to Bosnia Herzegovina so remember to come back next week to hear all about my new destination. Until next time - my name is Palle Bo, and I gotta keep moving. I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! I really would like to hear from you. Where are you and what are you doing as you listen to this episode? Action Movie Anatomy hosts Ben Bateman and Andrew Ghai break down Casino Royale with special guest Cathy Kelley! Casino Royale (2006) is the twenty-first film in the Eon Productions James Bond film series and the first to star Daniel Craig as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. Directed by Martin Campbell and written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and Paul Haggis, the film marks the third screen adaptation of Ian Fleming's 1953 novel of the same name. Casino Royale is set at the beginning of Bond's career as Agent 007, just as he is earning his licence to kill. After preventing a terrorist attack at Miami International Airport, Bond falls in love with Vesper Lynd, the treasury employee assigned to provide the money he needs to bankrupt a terrorist financier, Le Chiffre, by beating him in a high-stakes pokergame. The story arc continues in the following Bond film, Quantum of Solace (2008), with implicit and explicit references to characters and events in Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015) --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
With their Bond podcast nearly over, Ian and Adham are less than overjoyed that the penultimate episode of For Your Ears Only is devoted to talk about the franchise's uncertain future, and the 1967 spoof spy flick Casino Royale. Where 007 is a retired knight of the realm, Vesper Lynd is actually Honey Ryder, and Le Chiffre is a minor antagonist who delights in magic tricks. Also, the feedback is fully updated, and special announcements await about next month's final installment!
