We owed you all an episode, didn't we? Well, here it is!We're back with the not-so-NEW episode we promised you of 'Adult-ish' featuring our fave co-host, Vincent Bernard, for a conversation around shredding & processing growth as an adult. While chatting about his academic plans in August (yeesh, we're behind), Vince takes a deeper dive into where he is in his life, his insecurities, and embracing the idea of "shedding." Much like abandoned crab shells, we humans go through periods of shedding and the duo speak to what the universe has been speaking to them in the Summer of 2021. While hitting a bowl and allowing their minds to flow, the duo mull over their desire to grow professionally and how they never really understood how important THIS aspect of life can be to adulting.Host: Afiya A.http://twitter.com/lajoliepoeta http://instagram.com/alja0214 Clubhouse @Aljaugustwww.aljathewriter.comCo-Host: Vincent Bernardhttps://www.facebook.com/vincent.bernard.543http://instagram.com/vincentbernard_83http://www.twitter.com/vincebernardAdult-ish Podcast http://twitter.com/adultishp0dcasthttp://instagram.com/adultishp0dcasthttp://facebook.com/adultishp0dcast
And the gang is back (sort of) for this pre-recorded episode of 'Adult-ish'! While not so timely, the episode talks to something that is all too relevant these days: cancel culture. Joined by co-host Vincent Bernard, the pair take on the latest person (at that time) to be hit with the cancel culture wave -- Da Baby. After making some disparaging comments during a concert, the rapper came under fire by many, including members and allies of the LGBTQIA community. Was it warranted? Was the apology sincere? Will he remained cancel? Though we already know the answer to several of those questions, listen on as the duo take on cancel culture and discuss whether or not a person every really remains "canceled." Do you ever feel a way when you re-watch one of your favorite films as an adult? While we know 'Adult-ish' host Afiya loves to tear into Disney films with her adult lenses, it's Mr. Vincent Bernard who has something to say about one of his favorite features. In this fun episode of 'Adult-ish,' the pair take on several films from their past including 'To Wong Foo: Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar,' and how the film reduced sexual assault to comedic plot as well as their personal favorite, 'Bram Stoker's Dracula.' The two really take a deeper dive into moments of the film that spoke to assault, rape, and sexuality on levels that weren't really there yet as younger folks. While we laughed and loved as children, as adults, the twosome sit back and take a harder look at these themes and how they expressed themselves. And yes, the two were slightly inebriated. But that makes the convo all the more fun!

It's one thing to have to learn how to adult, it's another when you have to take care of one, too. In this episode of "Adult-ish," host Afiya is joined by co-host Vincent Bernard to pose a big question a lot of older millennials like themselves are facing these days: how can I make the most of my life while taking care of my aging parent? Not all folks are often met with the responsibility of taking care of their older parent, but for the twosome, the looming thought is slowly becoming a reality and the duo sit and hash out what it means to... well, parent a parent. Listen on as they speak to their current experiences with the topic, give their thoughts on what can help the situation, and speak to the idea of a child who does not want to take care of their parent's in their twilight years — and why it's OK to feel that way. 2020 is about to go to dust, but not before leaving its mark. In this episode of "Adult-ish," host Afiya A. and co-host Vincent Bernard take a quick look back at how 2020 has changed their lives — and the lives of everyone on planet earth. Between the circus we called politics, to the devastation of the COVID-19 virus, the duo talk about the losses and stresses 2020 brought with and how quickly it's all ending. But it's not all sad talk! The pair talk about the lessons they've learned about life (and maybe love) in 2020 and what they intend to take with them as 2021 approaches to tons of optimistic people around the globe. Grammy nominations are out and per usual, many musical artists are in their feels about being "snubbed." One in particular, Teyana Taylor, took the snub pretty hard and went on to announce her potential retirement from music... but was it really warranted? In this episode of "Adult-ish," both host Afiya A and co-host Vincent Bernard examine the "WTP" singer's decision to leave the industry and poses the question: is she bowing out because of rejection OR because she feels it's time to step away from music? This ultimately leads to a larger discuss around the concept of stepping away from one's passion and how to do that like an adult, sans regret. In this episode "Adult-ish", host Afiya A. is joined by co-host Vincent Bernard to do a call back to 'Ep. 25: FAD #22 — Giving Yourself Time to Grieve Relationships Like an Adult-ish' and our dear Vincent takes the reins to talk about his experience with grief and mourning. Dubbing this episode an "Adult-ish Quickie," Vincent speaks to a recent loss of his and the thoughts behind having to grieve a loss in its entirety — from the physical loss to the emotional gap that death and/or the end of a relationship brings. In this moment of pure vulnerability, Vincent takes listeners on a transitive journey as he processes the death of a loved one, talks to the respect of allowing individuals time to process a loss, and then learning how to move on. Relationships may end, either through death or change of circumstance, but it's always important to take the time to grieve the situation. While a bit somber, we hope this quickie makes you a little more thankful for all those around you and all those you carry with you — however best you choose to carry them. The 2020 Election season has come but it's not-so-quiet gone...In this (mildly delayed) episode of "Adul-tish," host Afiya is joined by co-host Vincent Bernard to discuss their feels about President-Elect Joe Biden, Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, and the Don's attempts to keep them out of the office. The two mull over the relief that's been washed over, simmering rage that's bubbling over, and what it will mean to have things "go back to normal," once Trump and all his shenanigans have finally removed from the White House. *Note: This episode of "Adult-ish" was recorded a week before the Election Day results* The 2020 Election season has been one filled with bigotry, racism, social injustice, and just plain ol' stupidity — and we're getting into it. In this overdue episode of "Adult-ish," host Afiya and co-host Vincent Bernard get together to discuss the circus that our democracy has turned into and the drive to vote more than ever before. Between tackling the current sitting President, to discuss the "gift of whiteness" given to many of the ethnic groups as seen in the current iteration of "Fargo," the duo speak on the divided country we're all living in as well as the real reason Trump supports are waving their banners high in his name. Did the demand for justice go too far when it crossed the line of animated cartoons? Over the past few weeks, several actors and noted voice actors stepped down from their respective TV shows in an effort to allow for people of color to voice the 'minority' characters they'd been playing. Question is, was it really necessary? In this episode of "Adult-ish," host Afiya is joined by recurring co-host Vincent Bernard to discuss the pros and cons of this cartoon world shakeup. The two cartoon fans point out the slippery slope people of color may fall prey to when agreeing to keep characters of color to being played by people who look like then. Afiya dishes on the implications of voice acting being defined by a person's ethnicity over ability, and speaks to the impacts of making voice acting roles race-based. Meanwhile, Vincent dishes on his favorite voice actors in the biz and speaks to the number of coins that can leave many POC voice actors' pockets. It's been a rough two weeks, but we're BACK and bringing re-enforcements! While the media coverage of worldwide protests has taken dip, we haven't stopped noticing and the widespread demand for justice for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color). In this long-awaited episode of "Adult-ish," host Afiya and co-host Vincent Bernard are joined by the ever-shady, but always accurate, Gary. The Detroit native joins the duo for a chat on the recent spread of acceptance and accountability shared by major corporations the world over and discuss whether it comes from a place of White Guilt or actual accountability. Next, the trio steers the chat into a new direction: how the voice of Gen Z is the real G behind a lot of the protests. Mobilizing social media to point others due north in morality, the crew weighs the pros and cons to the generation being staunch and steadfast in their quest for justice and how it all boils down to being accountable to make sure a movement is not just a moment.
