"The Adventure of the Stockbroker's Clerk" by Arthur Conan Doyle, narrated by Jack Carmichael. “Human nature is a strange mixture, Watson. You see that even a villain and murderer can inspire such affection that his brother turns to suicide when he learns that his neck is forfeited." Content warning (and SPOILER ALERT!): This story contains a fairy graphic depiction of a suicide attempt by hanging. It occurs about halfway through the story. This episode is narrated by Jack Carmichael. Jack is a Kent-based Voice Over Artist/Actor and a graduate of East 15 Acting School. His personal career highlights so far include performing at Edinburgh Fringe with the comedy/puppet show "Ronnie and the Other World", puppeteering for the BBC Radio 4 Podcast "The Infinite Monkey Cage" and starring as DAX in the award-winning, sci-fi/comedy podcast "We Fix Space Junk". Jack also plays acoustic guitar, sings bass and is an amateur beat-boxer. Outside of the acting world, he enjoys running, baking and escape rooms! Miracle in Lane 2 tells the inspirational story of Justin Yoder, the first person with a disability to compete in the All American Soapbox Derby, and also presumably the first person to sit in a Disney screening room watching a movie about his life that inexplicably features loads of scenes of his parents going to town on each other. Frankie Muniz plays Justin, a plucky kid searching for a sport in which he can compete at the same level as his athletic brother Seth (So Weird's Patrick Levis). When he discovers soap box derby racing, it seems like Justin has found his calling, but will the set in their ways derby association allow him to compete with his modified car? Will crusty local misanthrope Old Man Vic share his wealth of soapbox knowledge with this wannabe racer? Is the driver essentially ballast? Hey! We're just dropping in to let you know some things! So! First and most importantly, we're hard at work on Season 4 — we've recorded Kilner, Samantha and DAX alongside some of our guest stars and we've got lots of recordings scheduled! We're working with some really fun people this season! Next step after recording is dialogue editing, then sound design, music composition and mixing and mastering! So we're going to be really busy for a while, but in the end it'll all be worth it! Season 4 coming and we can't wait to share it with you! But! We also wanted to let you know about our new sponsor, Intra Quest, a new fantasy adventure audio drama. It's co-produced by the wonderful Adam Raymonda, whose name you might recognise from sister show Forgive Me. Intra Quest follows three adventurers in a distant future as they embark on a quest that will — hopefully — save the world from a lurking evil. It stars a whole host of talented video game voice actors, including the voices of Megara from Hades, Mercy from Overwatch and Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption II. If you like We Fix Space Junk — and we're assuming you do if you're listening! — we think you'll enjoy Intra Quest. We got to listen to the first episode and we really enjoyed it. It's full of action, adventure, quips and really detailed sound design, as well as really fun characters and bizarre situations. You can find Intra Quest anywhere you listen to podcasts. Listen on, and we hope you enjoy it! https://link.chtbl.com/9VmHiom4?sid=fableandfolly Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

“The thing that had to change most fundamentally [in The Grand Sophy] is that Sophy is simply untroubled…she always has the upper hand, she always has the answer and she's always outwitting everybody. For the film…if a character is completely unassailable, it becomes frustrating. You have to find the kryptonite, you have to find what would make her vulnerable, and what would make her unsure of herself. If she's being so bold and outrageous, what are the consequences?' – Olivia Hetreed on adapting The Grand Sophy into a film Welcome to our final episode in this season of Heyer Today, the podcast all about historical novelist, Georgette Heyer. Sara-Mae has now been working on this programme for years, over which time, the world has been reshaped by a pandemic, she's had a child and met a huge community of Heyer admirers and fans. It's been a tremendously rewarding process in which she's gotten to reread the books she's loved almost all her life and see them with fresh eyes, alongside our Heyer newbies. Since she began this project, looking for Heyer content that was thin on the ground, new podcasts have sprung up, academic essays and conferences exploring the world Heyer created, as well as TV shows adapting the work of similar authors. All of which has made us hopeful that at long last, Heyer will get the recognition she deserves from critics and movie makers. In this final episode, we'll visit Heyer on her deathbed, with her best friend and husband Ronald at her side, as the magnificent Sarah Golding and Karim Kronfli give voice to her final moments in a tremendously touching scene. *Trigger warning, this scene may be difficult to listen to if you've lost someone from lung-related ailments. On top of that, we chat to screenwriter Olivia Hetreed, coming full circle on our journey to discover what happened to her and her husband, producer Andy Paterson's film version of The Grand Sophy. We'll also speak to Peter Buckman again, as he tells us all about his adaptation of TGS, born out of frustration in the film world. Plus, Jennifer Kloester, Heyer's biographer, will discuss the controversial side of Heyer's oeuvre, exploring accusations of anti-Semitism which have led some to call for her to be ‘cancelled'. Finally, we have an Aussie book club who've never read her work giving us their verdict on The Grand Sophy. SO. MUCH. GOOD. STUFF. This episode was edited, researched, produced and hosted by Sara-Mae Tuson. Beth Keehn worked with Sara-Mae on production, writing and research. Mike Scott also helped with production, as well as a little acting here and there. Rowan Scott for being an adorable addition to the Fable Gazers family. Thanks to Cat Warren and Will Dell for their help across the series with production. Michael Mandalis edited and recorded Beth's bits throughout the season and he did a marvellous job. Thanks also to Geraldine Elliot, Talitha Gamaroff and everyone who supported us in creating this work. We could never have made this without the help of all the guests we've had on this season's episodes. You're all totally fabulous, even if you didn't become converts. Heyer's deathbed scene was enacted by the magnificent Sarah Golding as Heyer, and Karim Kronfli doing his usual fabulous job as Ronald. We'd like to thank our wonderful cast across the series: Helen Davidge as young Heyer, Beth Crane and Hedley Knights playing multiple roles, including Heyer's son, Richard (please check out their brilliant pod We Fix Space Junk, amongst many others), Fiona Thraille (playing Pat Wallace and others), Thomas and Holly Golding as young Boris and young Richard, John Grayson as Frere, Karen Heimdahl, my mother, Cathy Tuson as Sylvia and Mike Scott, again. You all helped to bring Heyer's world to life, and we're profoundly grateful to all of you. Look out for bonus episodes later in the year, we have plans to work with the International Heyer Society and Jen Kloester on some special short episodes. The music used in this episode is from Emma Gattril's luminous album, Chapter I, as well as Jerome Alexander's cinematic Message to Bears work. Original music was composed especially for the podcast, by Sara-Mae and Tom Chadd, and their work will shortly be available on Spotify and Bandcamp or on request for people who donate to our Paypal. Comment and take part in our discussions on social media, we're @fablegazers on Instagram and @fable_gazers on Twitter. Special thanks to Peter Buckman for all his kind assistance, and for letting us use selections from his adaptation of The Grand Sophy, do go and find out more about it at thegrandsophy.co.uk Remember to rate and review the pod … it helps small indie companies like us to thrive. If you'd like to help us with future projects, you can go to our 'Support us' page and donate money to keep us in tea and biscuits. Heyer Today has been a Fable Gazers production. Show notes: The Grand Sophy extracts were produced by Jane Markham of Podcats, who cast six young actors, all members of the Oxford University Dramatic Society. You can listen to the podcast on most podcast platforms, including Apple, Spotify, TuneIn, ITunes, and Google Podcasts. Websites: www.thegrandsophy.co.uk. We hope you enjoyed the second season of Marilyn's Diary! We're now hard at work on the Halloween Special, and we're already working on the outlines for We Fix Space Junk Season Four! But in the meantime, we just wanted to let you know about a really cool new show from some dear friends of ours.Zachary Fortais-Gomm, creator of the Orphans, recently started a new podcast, RPG - Realms of Peril and Glory. Vabbè almeno 3 minuti grezzi son riuscita a farli.

The piece of music featured in this episode is called Theme from We Fix Space Junk. It’s a playful and futuristic piece. I wrote it as the opening tune for the comedy sci-fi audio drama We Fix Space Junk, a story about two female repairmen who travel space fixing things (and trying not to get killed in the process.) The soundtrack conveys fun, adventure and an overall positivity, and this week we’ll look at some of the insights into why and how it was made. My name is Hedley Knights. I'm a composer from London, and this is How I Make Music. IN THIS EPISODE 01:53 Influences for the piece came from Tim Souster’s theme for the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy TV show and from historical 70s depictions of the future. 03:32 The piece was written entirely in MIDI, using no live instrumentation. This gives it a more digital, futuristic feel. I used a deliberately fake-sounding string patch from a program called Reason and layered it with a more realistic sample-based string library to give it both the retro feel and extra emotion. 04:52 For the drums in this piece, my free trial expired! I had to replace the drum sounds with a different patch, resulting in slightly different versions of the piece over time. 05:41 I use a technique called portamento to glide smoothly between notes. This roughly emulates a theremin, a really common instrument in vintage science fiction. 07:05 The drums and bass groove well together. The song is in 6/8, but at a faster tempo than most compositions in that time signature. The bass, kick drum and ride cymbal groove well together to really create a fun atmosphere to kick off each episode. 07:41 I wrote the piece in C major, which is usually attributed to happy and bright sounds. I included a Bb to give the melody a darker, almost bluesier feel. I feel this conveys the tone of We Fix Space Junk pretty well, being a comedy with a dark side. 08:31 The brass layer is a synth patch which has a triumphant fanfare sound. 08:58 Once I’d written all the instruments, I reamped them by running them through my Midas 80 analogue mixing desk. The random imperfections give the piece a real, retro feel. We may have been hard at work working on the scripts for our second mini-season and our third season, but we've somehow also found the time to write a novella! Coming to Kindle, Patreon and all other reputable eBook formats on March 19th (We Fix Space Junk's first anniversary!)
Spoilers för Book of Dust: La Belle Sauvage, och filmen The Golden Compass. In which Marilyn gets to grip with her new life...In Episode 7 of We Fix Space Junk we met Marilyn. She's half Gontanan (giant wasp) quarter Human (the reluctant father, Jault) and a quarter cow...
