Keepin It Real w/Caramel "As We Say 100" is super excited that we were the first podcast to interview Ian. YAY! Ian is a very humble and funny guy. He is from Kissimmee, Florida but we will say Orlando.. everyone knows Orlando. He has been doing standup comedian for months and he is new at it but he is doing so well. He is funny and he definitely makes the crowd laugh and want Ian to come back. Ian has a bachelor's degree in radio/television and he edits podcasts. Ian is not only funny, he is smart.. what a combination. When Ian started standup comedy he started by going to random open mics to perform and make connections. I am super happy that he loves coming to our open mic at Pizza Avenue every month. Ian told Keepin It Real that now he is 21 years old and he went to Orlando Improv for the first time. When he went to the Orlando Improv he was very excited especially when he had a chance to see one of the best standup comedians "Jersey." I agree "Jersey" is super funny. Ian also said that he was the class clown in school and he wonders why he wants to be a standup comedian..lol (this guy). Ian wants to pursue his passion and love every moment. He wants to be on a huge stage and be able to show his talent. Ian gave some great advice to the listeners, if you want to become a standup comedian go for it, try everything and do not give up. What may be for someone else may not be for you. Don't be afraid to try. Ian family.. okay his CREW supports his every move and that's awesome. His girlfriend is amazing and she is definitely his ride to die chick, she is always there supporting Ian. She is in the front row smiling (she is a keeper). If you want to Ian for any shows or editing you can follow him on Instagram @ijcastro99 or Facebook at Ian Castro You can also email him at ijcastro99@gmail.com Make sure you come out and support Ian
Today's guest, Ian Lobas, is a successful entrepreneur, a personal performance coach, and the host of the highly popular podcast, Men On Purpose. When Ian and I get together our conversations always revolve around ways to continually push ourselves and be better as men. And a big part of that is finding your purpose and living it every day, without excuses. In this episode Ian and I talk about what it means to truly be on purpose, how to find your purpose, and the impact it can have on your life, and the lives of those around you.
When Ian first told me about this travel story, I honestly thought he was kidding. One thing is taking your kids on a vacation, but it's a whole different level of adventure and "bravery" if you wish, to embark on a round the World trip for a year to places you may not think were "kid compatible."Add to that, this feat was accomplished in 2008 and 2009, an era of economic downturn.Imagine quitting your secure job right before a recession to backpack around the world with an 8 and 10 year old. What would it be like to be that parent, let alone that child?Never has this story been more relevant than at a time when travel is restricted, family holidays are on hold and parents are having to cope with home schooling. This epic journey will of course be something that every member of the family will cherish forever. Great memories from adventures we did in the past stay with us and are more important than materialistic things.I have a lot of respect for Ian in this accomplishment.I urge you to listen to his story and check out his book, appropriately called, "Are we there yet?" Ian Brandt was born in 1975 and grew up in Philadelphia, as a child, Ian disliked the idea of stuffing animals in little boxes as veal, it seemed inhuman, and as time went by he gradually stopped consuming meat and became fully vegan at the end of college. Ian loved being in the kitchen and while he was young, he was always in there with his grandmother and aunt; he wasn’t really into the other things kids his age were into and preferred hanging around the kitchen. In our conversation, you will see that Ian never learned his culinary skills but through self-development and constantly trying, he was able to attain the height he’s found himself now. When Ian’s partner was pregnant they became skeptical about feeding their child dairy milk after reading books by John Robbins where they learned that being completely vegan could help reduce many health risks. Ian’s enterprunership journey began in 1998 after finishing college when he started the second-ever food cart on the streets of Salt Lake City. He also brought his vegan food cart to the farmers’ market, and summer concert series in the area. During that time Ian learned a lot about vegan food preparation and got first-hand experience in customer relationship management. A year after starting his food cart business he opened up Sage Café named after his son, a vegan based café which afforded people the opportunity to eat healthy. Several years later, after seeing the desire for vegan comfort food, Ian got the idea of opening a vegan diner. When an opportunity showed up to open a diner, he took it and the vertical diner was born, a diner where everything was prepared with organic ingredients and where people can actually eat better comfort food. In this episode, he says he doesn’t see veganism as a trend but a necessity, and that it is high time people stop eating animals. Ian also touches on some of the challenges he faced one of which includes keeping product cost low and having enough kitchen space. These challenges are one of the reasons why he bought an off-site commercial kitchen to create, prepare, and store the food for his two restaurants. He now uses this space to create and prepare food for other restaurants including his sought-after plant-based meat alternatives called Tender Tigers. After the tremendous success of the Vertical Diner in Salt Lake, 2019 Ian open a second location in Portland, Oregon to much fan fair.

Ian Friedman is one of the most sought after criminal defense lawyers in the country, and a partner at the Cleveland based firm Friedman and Nemecek. He joins the show to talk with Rob about the diverse nature of cases that he takes on, including criminal, cyber crimes and white collar manners. He talks about the law needing to catch up with the new crimes we are presently dealing with, and how sexually based charges fall within one of the toughest areas of law. Ian discusses how he and his clients deal with the potential major stigmas and penalties attached, and resources available to people who want to discover more. TAKEAWAYS: [1:04] Based in Cleveland, Ohio, Ian Friedman has served as chief legal counsel on behalf of individuals and entities from coast to coast and as far as Europe, Asia, and South America. In addition to his legal work, he is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law teaching Computers & Criminal Law. [2:38] Despite handling countless murder cases, people look at those that are merely charged with offenses with a hefty amount of judgement and paint the term “sex offenders” with a very wide stroke. To Ian, a sex offender can be many things on a broad spectrum. For example, it can be at 19 year old engaging in a sexual relationship with a girlfriend that is 16, or as far as people exploiting children, or engaging in non consensual physical acts with adults or minors. [4:37] Ian has taught about cyber crime since 2006, and it all changes so fast that it is necessary to talk about present cases in order to even catch up. Cyber crime examples can be online exploitation, hacking, third party intrusions, crypto currency offenses, online stalking and any sort of online financial crimes. He teaches his students to be able to both educate while still showing respect for the bench. [7:49] The Fourth Amendment touches about people’s right to privacy and prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures. This has also shifted and expanded a great deal as more and more cases deal with uncovering things within a people’s computer and search history. [9:53] Misdemeanors could (all jurisdictions are different) be anything from soliciting prostitutes, exhibisionism, etc. These carry very harsh consequences of embarrassment, loss of relationships and work. [13:02] Our laws are not caught up to technology, and we are using dated laws to fit new offenses in. There is a lack of understanding, and Ian believes it’s not always law itself but the sentencing of that law. [17:55] Charges on sexual offending also have one of the highest rates of false allegations because there can be ulterior motives. This stresses the importance of taking into account the motivations behind an accusation. [21:17] When Ian meets with a client for the first time, they are often terrified and mortified. Ian lets them know there is no judgement. He also has set up a network of former clients and family members to help support the new client. Treatment and rehab are not the final step, but more like an important step in the right direction. [30:11] Due to the strong stigma and penalties associated with accusations of this nature, it is so critical to work with people who have expertise in this particular area of the law. By the time it comes, it’s outdated.” “Sexting is a little bit like sex, drugs, and rock and roll.” “You need to go to people who have been doing the work for a while.”
Ian talks about what it's like to be a kid in the Mormon church. When Ian was 8 years old, he was baptized in the Mormon Church. He said that after a year, he finally learned about the Holy Ghost. Ian was almost severely injured in a car accident when he learned that the Holy Ghost protects people and brings peace. Ian says that the gospel is a gospel of choices. He was never forced to go to Church or to live as a Mormon. He was taught by his parents about the blessings of the LDS Church but he wasn't forced to live the commandments. He decided on his own to read the Book of Mormon. When Ian read the Book of Mormon, he prayed about the Book of Mormon and knew that it was true, though at first he was scared that it might not be. But Ian said he felt so much light and happiness when he prayed that he could not deny that the Book of Mormon was true. When Ian was 16 years old, he was watching the World Series in 2009 when his dad left to do an interview at a church building. Ian went to sleep but was awakened by the police who informed him that his mom had filed a Missing Person's report. The next day, while Ian was at school, he was called down to the office to find that his dad had passed away. He said he felt so much sadness and darkness. He didn't want to believe it. He told his mom that everything was going to be okay but he was still confused. He had to figure out if he was going to live with his family after death. He felt the Holy Ghost tell him to calm down. All of his anger left instantly after he felt the Holy Ghost. The gospel is an invitation. Pray to know if the things that you are reading are true. Growing up in the Church does not mean that someone is indoctrinated. What do you think about growing up in the Mormon Church? What do you think about the Holy Ghost? Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies
Looking for a way to add tons of value and increase services to your agency clients? Have you considered adding video as a service but not sure where to begin? Adding video can seem overwhelming but it doesn't have to be. With the right processes and systems, you can dive headfirst into offering video services to your clients with minimal investment. Learn how to seamlessly transition to a video offering so you can help your clients share their case stories. When they sell more and you sell more - it's a win-win. In this episode, we'll cover: How to build better relationships. Video marketing doesn't require a huge upfront investment. 3 video marketing strategy tips. #1 way to convince clients to buy your videos. Today, I talked with my good friend Ian Garlic. Ian runs a successful video marketing agency, authenticWEB, hosts his podcast, The Garlic Marketing Show, and consults on video shoots — now there's a trifecta! :) Ian has worked with big names, big businesses, and traveled internationally on shoots. Ian is on the show to tell us how existing marketing agencies can easily offer video marketing as a service. He's sharing the ins and outs, as well as tips and strategies to make sure you're successful right out of the gate. Video Can Help Build Better Relationships We ALL want better client relationships. When you welcome an awesome new you create a killer campaign, and then... what? They walk out the door and never come back. Or they move onto another agency that can do more of what they need. Offering a complementary service, like video, is a way to keep those clients around longer. Here's the great thing about video content. It's permanent. Facebook strategies shift, Google's algorithm changes, and those CRO strategies go out-the-door when the next big buzzword hits the scene. But, all videos — they aren't going anywhere. You can shove that video content into any other strategy, and it's universally understood. Clients love video content because it's evergreen. When you start pitching video content, you really have to understand your clients. What's their story? Why are they here? Once you sit down with them for a strategy session and really get to know them, they're going to stick around because you get them. They won't run off to the next agency that shoves a cooler, better strategy in their face because video is video. Why Video Service Doesn't Require Huge Upfront Investment I know what you're thinking. You don't have the time, resources, or people to start offering video. You're wrong. It's a lot easier than you think! Ian says you really only need one videographer and a solid strategy. The rest of the stuff - copywriting, editing, etc. - you can outsource. When Ian started, he didn't hire a team for video production; he hired a videographer and outsourced the rest. How did he do it? He had a process! You have to have a system in place that tells people what they need to get done. Without a system or even the right checklists, you'll likely be scrambling to get everything done, and you'll unknowingly let things slip through the cracks. 3 Video Marketing Strategy Tips Determine your low-hanging fruit. Make a list of which of your current or past clients could work well with video. Don't think you have to go out and capture new leads to sell your video service. You don't. Think about who, among your existing network, could benefit from video and pitch them a strategy utilizing your video service. Nail the strategy session. Strategy sessions are a great way to get to know your clients. But, they're also an excellent way to build your process. During the sessions, you'll figure out what the client needs, which is going to tell you what you need to do, step-by-step. Map it out to a successful end result. Now that you know what the client wants, start figuring out how you're going to do it. Get the sale first! Then, come up with a plan of how to execute the strategy you just made with your client. Don't worry about building a team. Just make sure you give the client a clear understanding of the plan and regularly communicate the goals. How to Sell Video to Your Existing Clients How do you actually get those clients to pull-the-trigger on your new video service? Put everything in perspective. Ask them this: "How much is one lead worth to you?" Flip their mindset from looking at video as a cost to looking at it as an investment. If they're a service-based business, one lead may be worth a thousand dollars... up to ten thousand. Once they think about the ROI for a second, they're going want 20 videos. If those videos only score them a few leads, they're still going to come out on top. The same thing works for non-service clients too. Have them think about the entire process in terms of ROI. They're going to see video as an expense. However, you need to sell it is as an investment by pointing out the benefits of this evergreen, multi-use content. Cashflow or Bookkeeping Issues? Salespeople need mental toughness to weather all the ups and downs of the industry, as well as the pressures and difficulties when things aren't going well. Sometimes clients choose another seller. Sometimes a customer ends the relationship. In other cases, we do everything we're supposed to do, and the deal still won't close. Today Ian Wendt talks with us about one of the most difficult moments in his career and how he got through it and continued his journey. TEACHING INSTEAD OF SELLING Sales is full of challenges, and it requires a certain amount of self-motivation. For Ian, though, the greatest challenge was when he decided that he didn't want to knock on doors. He realized that while he was really good at selling, he was even more valuable as a teacher. He needed to find a way to make himself valuable enough that he could teach other people how to sell and how to be mentally tough, which was what he was really passionate about. It's sometimes tough for people to build a sales career that doesn't involve knocking on doors. Finding a way to make the transition felt daunting to him. He was haunted by the fear of what would happen if he couldn't make it work. Ian shared a quote from the book Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds by David Goggins that goes like this: “Most people don't even start if they don't have a guarantee.” That was Ian's mindset at the time of the transition. PULLING THE TRIGGER Ian decided to sell for one more summer, and his regional manager used him to do some training. When Ian went to certain offices, those groups started seeing huge spikes in their performance. He was helping them close significant deals and move the needle. He started tracking his results so he could demonstrate his value. Ian asked for the opportunity to run a training program, but his leadership told him there was no such position available in the company. If, however, Ian could prove the value in his training, the company would consider creating one. Ian is a big believer that you don't negotiate until you bring value, so that's what he set out to do. He was determined to produce something he could negotiate with. TRACKING RESULTS Ian started tracking the offices, reps, and leaders that he was training. He tracked their metrics and their increases and the improvements in their completion rates for about three months. He visited about 11 offices and trained more than 60 reps. Once he had a binder full of information, the leaders called him in to ask what he was doing. They were seeing improvements and they wanted to hear how he was doing it. He got the leadership on board and he created a pitch for his proposed training. They jumped on board with his idea and moved toward getting started. UNSEEN STRUGGLES One of the biggest struggles for Ian was that he wasn't directly selling anymore. He was investing his time and efforts into these offices and these other sellers, so he wasn't selling a ton of accounts. He got a few sales, but he went from making a lot of money to making very little. Ian overdrafted his account at least four times, which was unheard of for him. He was battling the stress of the downward mindset. As a result, he now teaches that stress is the number one factor in negativity and negativity is the one thing that will destroy a sales career. Those reps that operate in fear can be completely debilitated. WHAT IF? What if I'm moving the needle but this doesn't pay out? Or what if I have nothing to show for all my work? Worse yet, What if I don't make enough to live off of? Ian lived with exactly that fear during the summer he spent training other sellers. He was plagued by the internal debate over whether to return to the regular sales or to keep trying to develop his training idea. RESULTS Ian put himself in a position to do work that he loves. Now he's over all of the training and content creation for his entire company, and he gets paid really well for it. He's grateful every day that he was able to create his own future. He recently spoke at a conference where he reminded the audience that sales will always be hard. But, he said, if you can master it, you can really control the outcome of your life. If you can sell yourself or sell a product, it will allow you to create the life you want, and maybe the life you never imagined. #Selling CLICK TO TWEET You can find a way to do work that you love and position yourself to look forward to the work week. He loves the opportunity to share what he has learned with other people, and he loves being surrounded by people who are constantly trying to develop themselves. “FEAR AND MENTAL TOUGHNESS” EPISODE RESOURCES Ian is in the process of developing a consulting and coaching program. BiblioFiles: A CenterForLit Podcast about Great Books, Great Ideas, and the Great Conversation
When Ian settled in to lead a discussion of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with his students, he looked for some way to tie the entire story together into a continuous narrative. Is there an overarching theme, or is this beloved Roald Dahl story just a series of morality tales? How is the tone in keeping with the rest of Dahl’s work? Is it possible to love something that just lays down the law on us? These are the questions that arise when the BiblioFiles team sits down to record a rambunctious, wandering episode without any prior planning or meditation…Referenced Works:– Charlie and the Chocolate Factory– Danny, the Champion of the World– Fantastic Mr. Fox– Matilda– “Paron’s Pleasure”– The BFGWe love hearing your questions and comments! Claire Diaz-Ortiz first discovered the Enneagram in 2005 and typed herself as an Enneagram One. When Ian first interviewed Claire in Season One, she came onto the show sharing her life through the lens of a One. But the more she and Ian dug into her narrative, the more Ian began to sense there was more to Claire's story. Ian suggested she consider reading up on Enneagram Threes...and she did. Today, Claire returns to reveal how her research into Enneagram Threes has had impacted her and helped her become "quiet enough to listen" so real, deep change can happen. Claire Diaz-Ortiz is an author, speaker and Silicon Valley innovator who was an early employee at Twitter. Named one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business by Fast Company, she holds an MBA and other degrees from Stanford and Oxford and has been featured widely in print and broadcast media. Ever wish you could "license" the rights to The Tooth Fairy? Ian Wilmsdoes. When Ian's 5-year-old son got upset about having to give his tooth to the Tooth Fairy, Ian wrote Brushalot: The Tale of the Tooth Fairy to answer his son's questions: WHO is the Tooth Fairy? WHY does she need his baby teeth? WHY do we need to brush and floss our teeth? Ian discovered there were no "real stories" about the Tooth Fairy like his, which features relatable characters including her brother, Sir Brushalot, his brave horse DEN-TIST, and evil Uncle Prince Plaque from Cavity Castle. The message for kids: the lifelong importance of brushing their teeth. Now Ian is turning the characters in the book into what he hopes will become a Tooth Fairy toy and animated film market. Ian is also a former US military officer, IBM executive, import/export business owner – and he never stops reinventing himself. Learn why and how More: www.brushalot.com
When Ian Anderson left the family home in Blackpool to make his name in the music business his father flung him hid old overcoat. "It'll be cold out there," he said. That was more than fifty years ago. 2018 sees the fiftieth anniversary of the release of the first Tull album "This Was". This anniversary is being marked by a special tour which begins in April. When Ian was our guest at Word In Your Ear he talked about: going to the police station as a 15-year-old because he wanted to be a copper, how the name of his band was as much a surprise to him as anyone else, what it was like to go on before Hendrix at the Isle of Wight in 1969, how The Who outshone the Rolling Stones during the filming of "The Rolling Stones Rock And Roll Circus", why any idiot can manage his own band and why so few do, the secret of breaking America and why this tour is definitely the last. September is Virginia Spirits Month! Celebrate with all of your favorites. Preferably while listening to this episode. Spirit Work. With Community Changes. Welcome to Episode 80 and the very first recorded after the events of August 12th. Meet Ian Glomski of Vitae Spirits, a former UVA professor of microbiology who decided to take his knowledge and apply it to the science of distilling. With fabulous results. Edacious is about community, so we begin with how August 12th affected Charlottesville, including disturbing events that happened right next door the day after. The fact this happened in summer, the slowest season for business, didn't help. At all. What then? We talk about it, as well as the challenges faced by our community as all sorts of changes, good and bad, happen when the town you live in has its moment in the national spotlight. We're used to being named the Prettiest Little Town That Ever Existed. How do we handle this new label? How do we move forward consciously, with awareness and compassion? And how do we embrace revitalization when the very concept looks different depending on your perspective? Ian's love of microbes began early, college in fact, when he discovered while he couldn't legally drink beer, he did have the ingredients to make it. A microbiology class improved his technique. A Ph.D. followed soon after. Eventually Ian became a professor at the UVA School of Medicine, but his passion for fermentation never waivered. Pair that with a family background in wine and a job which no longer fed him emotionally and you've got the perfect equation for a new life path. A boutique distillery focusing on making the best possible spirits money can buy. "There's a certain level of scientist in me where I try to control variables as much as possible, but you can only control so many things and there's a certain amount of intuition that I've developed...in the three-plus decades that I've been doing fermentation." Vitae Spirits was founded in 2015 and in only two years has made a name for itself, winning medals for its Modern Gin and Platinum Rum. Their tasting room is sleek, modern, yet insanely comfortable. A place right in town to tuck in and enjoy some tastings, maybe even a cocktail. Right next door to an awesome barbecue spot. But it's off the beaten path in the burgeoning neighborhood of Rose Hill. What are Ian and his team doing to get folks there? How are his mission and vision different from those of corporate distillers? "This was in my business plan...we want to maintain authenticity as best as possible...my ideal way of growth is essentially word of mouth. That has to be promoted in a lot of different ways...I'll never be buying an NFL football spot even if I could afford it because...I want it to feel like a garage band situation where people recognize us as their own private, personal thing. That means we have to keep in touch with our customers." One method is using story. When Ian pours you a tasting of Golden Rum, you are being served by the man who made it. When he travels to festivals and restaurants selling his wares you are looking in the eyes of the man who spent hours developing the nectar in your mojito. He oversees every step of the process from fermentation to bottling. That's huge. That use of story is elemental to good business growth. Incorporating a good logo by Convoy and beautiful bottle artwork by Lara Call Gastinger continues the story, sealing the deal. “There’s a really long history of alcohol being associated as a medicine or with a medicine…the distillation process was discovered by Muslim alchemists…the alchemists were looking for an elixir of life…they put wine in an alembic still, a colorless liquid came out…they put a pear in it and the pear never rotted…they interpreted that as that liquid was infusing life force.” The process of distilling rum, gin, and liqueurs is very different from creating bourbon or whisky. We discuss the ingredients as well as the process. Like those spirits, you have to jump through the same state and federal bureaucratic hoops. It's an incredibly long and challenging series of events. We talk about it, as well as some of the ways our Commonwealth is making it a bit easier which should result in a spirits boom similar to the ones we've seen with wine and beer. "For our rums we use the highest grade molasses..it's more like an evaporated sugar cane juice...sometimes referred to as sugarcane honey...it's super sweet and flavorful in the positive sense...we have almost completely uncooked evaporated juice so we don't get a lot of those bitter sulphery aromas..." Did you know there was a distilling "incident" in Woolen Mills in 1983? What is carrot vodka? What's the difference between grape vodka and grappa? Can you make rum from sorghum? What liqueur collaboration is in development with a local coffee roaster? What local citrus does he use in his orange liqueur, one you may not know about? Could absinthe happen in Virginia? What research did he do before starting? We cover it all! Are you a home bartender with no outlet for your passion? Create a cocktail using Vitae Spirits! Entries are due September 4th. Details below and on the Vitae Spirits website. You can find Vitae Spirits in many Virgina ABC stores and its cocktails in many local restaurants. Maps for both can be found on the website. Of course, you can also visit the tasting room, take a tour, enjoy a specialty cocktail, and purchase a bottle to take home. Ian founded Vitae the same year as Edacious. “Finding” is the title of saxophonist and composer Ian Christensen’s debut album, and it’s the twenty seventh release on PJCE Records. When Ian talks about getting lost in the music, he’s talking about what some people call a “flow state.” It’s the state of fulfillment you experience when you are completely absorbed in a task that you care about. For Ian, the moments when he achieves it make all his hard work seem easy.

It may seem like some people just don’t have a gift for sales. When Ian started his first sales job, his only training for the position was, "Hang in there. You’ll do fine." The job lasted two hours and ended with his boss telling him he should become a waiter. In this interview, you’ll hear how Ian went from being that no-talent kid to a highly sought-after sales management consultant in New South Wales. And he’ll be the first to tell you that if he can master sales, anyone on your sales force can too -- because salespeople aren’t born; they’re trained. This is an exclusive interview from Michael Senoff at www.hardtofindseminars.com.
