On Monday March 17, Toronto Police Services announced that they arrested and laid 29 charges against a suspect allegedly behind a spree of hate-motivated attacks on Toronto's Jewish community in 2024—and then, revealed a judge had released him on bail. Amir Arvahi Azar, 32, was arrested on Jan. 11, 2025, in the Willowdale neighbourhood of Toronto. He was kept in custody for two months, until this week's release order. Police highlighted the fact that they brought three “very rare” hate-speech charges against the suspect, including advocating genocide against Jews, wilful promotion of genocide and public incitement of hatred. The Ontario attorney general's office had to agree to lay these charges, but went further than that and tagged the charges as “terrorist activities” under the Criminal Code, opening the door to a life sentence if convicted. There is a publication ban on revealing too many details about the case. All this has led Jewish leaders to ask: why was the suspect released on bail at all? On today's episode of The CJN Daily, we speak to Rivka Campbell, executive director of Beth Tikvah Synagogue, whose premises were hit by arson in April 2024, and also with Guidy Mamann of the Tiferet Israel congregation, where a pro-Israel sign was torched in August. Related links Read more reaction in The CJN from Jewish leaders about the arrest, charging with hate crimes, and then court-ordered release on bail of a suspect alleged to be behind terrorism-related spree of attacks on Toronto Jewish community buildings and people last year. Read the Toronto Police Service's news release announcing the suspect's arrest and bail conditions, March 17. Hear how Toronto's most targeted synagogue, Kehillat Shaarei Torah on Bayview Avenue, became more resilient after each of its eight attacks, in The CJN. The Herle Burly was created by Air Quotes Media with support from our presenting sponsor TELUS, as well as CN Rail and the Ontario Real Estate Association.Greetings you curious, you courageous Herle Burly-ites! I want you to cast your mind back 5 or 6 years. Doug Ford, 1st term Premier of Ontario, had popularity numbers that, if they weren't all time lows, were lower than the voice of the great Johnny Cash, after a weeklong bourbon bender. Today, Mr. Ford is celebrating his 3rd straight majority government, increasing his seat totals each time out. 3 straight majorities is a political feat that hasn't been accomplished in Ontario in almost 70 years. The chief strategic architect of that turnaround and subsequent history-making success is our guest today on the pod, Kory Teneycke. Most of you listeners know Kory from his seat on the Curse of Politics political panel, where he gives as good a soundbite as he gets with me, Scott and Jordan.Today I want to have a deeper, more detailed conversation into the just finished Ontario election. We'll get right into the weeds of the strategies ... from Willowdale to Windsor ... Northumberland to Niagara ... Mississauga to Mushkegowuk ... and all points in between.Thank you for joining us on #TheHerleBurly podcast. Canada Immigration News from the CIC press release released on 23/05/2023. New arrangement expands work opportunities for Canadian and South Korean youth Good day ladies and gentlemen, this is IRC news and I am Joy Stephen, an authorized Canadian Immigration practitioner bringing out this special edition of Immigration news from CIC press release, . This news was released by the government on 23/05/2023. I am coming to you from the Polinsys studios in Cambridge, Ontario. Today is the 24/05/2023 The Government of Canada is committed to strengthening ties with South Korea, a key partner for Canada in the Indo-Pacific, as we mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries this year. Today, Ali Ehsassi, Member of Parliament for Willowdale, on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, highlighted the signing of a new Canada–South Korea Youth Mobility Arrangement. Under this arrangement, youth from the two countries will have more options when applying for international work and travel opportunities in each other's respective country through International Experience Canada (IEC) or the South Korean equivalent. The new arrangement features a number of improvements over the existing memorandum of understanding signed in 1995: The eligibility age will increase from 18–30 to 18–35. Two new streams—International Co-op (Internship) and Young Professionals—will be added to complement the existing Working Holiday category. Most youth will also have the option to participate twice in the program—each time for up to 24 months. The Government of Canada anticipates implementing the new arrangement in 2024. It will open up new opportunities for future work and travel, and further build on our countries' people-to-people ties while improving labour market access for Canadian and South Korean youth. Toronto Urban Farm Fills a VoidAli Lila thinks that the missing relationship that most urban people have in their lives is a farmer.People know lawyers, plumbers, electricians, dentists…but who knows a farmer?Through his Neighbours Feeding Neighbours farm in Toronto's Willowdale neighbourhood, Lila aims to change that.Intensive ProductionIntensive production is at the core of Lila's approach to growing. He says that he looked at the cost for a conventional farm to raise a head of lettuce. Then he started crunching numbers to see what his own cost would be.The results surprised him.He found that even as a small operation on very expensive land, his cost to produce a head of lettuce was similar to a large farm. So he redid his calculations with his costs adjusted upwards. And his cost to produce a head of lettuce was still similar.Lila decided that if his produce wasn't going through distributors and retail outlets—and if his cost was similar to that of a large farm—he had opportunity.Cubic-Foot PlanningKeeping his cost low, he says, depends on planning. “We don't do square-foot planning; we do cubic-foot planning,” he says. Lila explains that with changes in planting patters, he can increase production by 400%. He also attributes higher production to doing more things manually. “The way to increase the production, paradoxically, is to do more things with people,” he explains. Without bulky equipment such as tractors, he can grow crops more densely.Business ModelLila does not use a subscription model to sell produce. He feels CSA subscriptions are not how most people want to purchase food. Instead, he hopes people will think of flavour and good value when they think of his produce.

December 6, 2018 New England Dirt Show Page ABOUT THIS EPISODE MTB Ben was joined by Frank Lane, Tom Green, and Dan Streeter of the North Shore NEMBA organization while he was out at the Wicked Ride of the East. They discuss what they have going on in the Northeastern Massachusetts area, what you can expect from the trails and more. Music by Addison Chase Check out his band Dressed For The Occasion: www.dftomusic.com On Instagram @dftomusic Do you have an idea for New England Dirt? If so, let us know at nedirt@mountainbikeradio.com. ———– From the North Shore NEMBA Facebook group: “What North Shore NEMBA is all about: The area north of Boston has a number of state parks and conservation properties that are terrific for mountain biking. We enjoy these trails by scheduling rides for different ability levels, organizing trail maintenance events, running mountain bike skills clinics, and enabling fellow bikers to find a wider biking community. We are determined to make sure the trails are kept open for, and used responsibly by, all trail users. We take a broad view of what trail accessibility is all about, as shown by our chapter’s financial commitment to the ‘Vietnam’ land purchase. We regularly convene chapter meetings to share information and keep our priorities in focus. When you join the North Shore chapter, you can stay in touch with everything that’s happening by joining our NEMBA email list. Our group’s email list and web site serve as the primary means of communication for the North Shore chapter. They allow members to discuss and collaborate on chapter activities – ride scheduling, trail maintenance, access issues and problems, or other matters of interest to the group. Where we ride: Major state parks used by mountain bike riders in the North Shore area are Harold Parker, Bradley Palmer/Willowdale, and Georgetown/Rowley. Lynn Woods, Dogtown in Gloucester, and various other smaller properties are also popular with our members. Riders from the chapter area also work with the Greater Boston chapter to provide Bike Patrols in the Boston area, monitoring trail use (and abuse) and assisting anybody in need on the trails. Of course, we also take the opportunity to join in other NEMBA rides and events no matter where they take place. What we do: North Shore NEMBA has a number of different programs in which members can get involved, including: -Trail maintenance events at Harold Parker, Bradley Palmer, Willowdale, and Georgetown/Rowley state parks. -Organized group rides. These are posted in “SingleTracks”, on our NorthShore email list, and/or on the NEMBA ride forum. -The season-ending bash called the “Wicked Ride of the East”. There is a great deal of logistical support needed to set up, run, and clean up after this charitable event which regularly draws 200 or so bikers to Harold Parker State Park. -Beginner’s clinics to help neophytes learn (and help some veterans brush up on) trail skills. This is a great way to meet fellow bikers and try new challenges. --------- RELATED SHOW LINKS You can support this content by becoming a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/mtnbikeradio Support Mountain Bike Radio by shopping through our Amazon Affiliate Link: http://amzn.to/1SC3svC North Shore NEMBA - https://www.nemba.org/chapters/nsnemba North Shore NEMBA Facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/MTBNorthShore/ NEMBA's The Wicked Ride of the East - https://www.nemba.org/events/wicked-ride-east Join NEMBA - http://www.nemba.org/join Email Ben: NEDirt@Mountainbikeradio.com MTBBen on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mtbben603/ NEMBA Trails: http://www.nemba.org/trails SnowDog: https://snowdog.com/ Mountain Bike Radio Links: Shop via our Amazon Affiliate Link: http://amzn.to/1SC3svCGo to the Mountain Bike Radio Store: https://shopmbr.com/Become a Mountain Bike Radio Member: http://mountainbikeradio.bigcartel.com/category/mbr-memberships Mountain Bike Radio Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/MountainBikeRadioMountain Bike Radio on Twitter: https://twitter.com/MtnBikeRadioMountain Bike Radio on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mtnbikeradio/Mountain Bike Radio on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYE6EAkjP_dmm94_HbKya0Q

Joseph Boyden (born 31 Oct 1966) is, Wikipedia tells us, a Canadian novelist and short story writer. "He grew up in Willowdale, North York, Ontario and attended the Jesuit-run Brebeuf College School." His father Raymond Wilfrid Boyden, was a medical officer who was awarded the Distinguished Service Order and was the highest-decorated medical officer of World War II. Of Irish, Scottish and Métis decent, Boyden writes about the First Nations heritage and culture. Three Day Road, is a novel about two Cree soldiers serving in the Canadian military during World War I. It was inspired by Ojibwa Francis Pegahmagabow, the legendary First World War sniper. Boyden's second novel, follows the story of Will, son of one of the characters in Through Black SpruceThree Day Road. It won the Giller Prize. He studied creative writing at York University and the University of New Orleans, and subsequently taught in the Aboriginal Student Program at Northern College. He divides his time between Louisiana, where he and his wife, Amanda Boyden, are writers in residence, and Northern Ontario."
