The upcoming Week of the Young Child celebration provides a fascinating framework for understanding developmental priorities. From Movement Monday to Family Friday, these themed days don't just guide our approach to supporting children—they offer surprising lessons for adults too. Dr. Beth explores this reciprocal relationship, suggesting that young children might be teaching us as much as we're teaching them. As she reflects on early social skill development, from learning to share to simply tolerating others in their space, she reveals how these fundamental capabilities form the building blocks of all future relationships.Looking ahead, Dr. Beth announces upcoming episodes exploring resilience, uniqueness, cooperation, and hope—concepts that resonate whether you're raising young children, working with them professionally, or simply applying these principles to adult relationships. Share your thoughts on what you'd like to hear in future episodes, and join us for these enlightening conversations about the profound lessons from our earliest developmental stages.Support the showwww.bethtrammell.com

It is debatable who made Charlee's younger years more miserable: her mother, her alcoholic, father, her sexual predator, stepfather, or her brother. Forgiveness: Part 1: Teach Our Young Child How to Forgive

5–Minute Parenting: Tips to Help You Raise Competent, Godly Kids.

Play Episode Listen Later May 4, 2023 5:28

Parents need to help their child understand what forgiveness is and why they need to forgive others. For the Christian, forgiveness is based on God's love and His forgiveness of us. God also commands us to forgive others. He even lists consequences if we don't forgive others. Unforgiveness can hinder our prayers and our personal relationship with God.Even from a worldly perspective, psychologists, counselors and social workers recognize the importance of forgiveness and the negative effects of unforgiveness. Unforgiveness can lead to bitterness and hatred that impacts our happiness and quality of life. And it causes stress and anxiety which in turn affects our physical health and well-being.So where do we start to help our young children understand how important forgiveness is?1. We model forgiveness ourselves.  2. Teach them about God's forgiveness.3. Share scriptures about forgiveness.4. Help them understand it's ok to express their feelings to us and God.5. Explain to them that forgiveness is not a feeling—it's a choice and an action they take. 6. Teach them that God says not to take revenge (try to get back at them, which is what we humanly want to do).7. Teach them what they can do after they have forgiven someone. Ask God to help them with their feelings. Brainstorm  some ways together they could show kindness instead of taking revenge.8. One practical, concrete way to demonstrate forgiveness to a younger child: Buy a helium balloon, take it outside and ask your child to pray after you or pray on their own, “I forgive ______ for_______.  Help me show kindness and love to them.” Then let the balloon go and watch it disappear into the heavens.Scriptures on forgiveness: Matthew 5:43-44; Matthew 6:14-15; Matthew 18:21-22; Mark 11:25; Luke 6:37; Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:13.Check out free resources and downloads on my website: Website: http://SandraKayChambers.com Follow Me on Social Media: Instagram: http://instagram.com/SandraKayChambers Facebook: http://facebook.com/SandraKayChambersauthor Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/SandraKayChamberswriter Thanks to my Virtual Assistant, Alyssa Avant (https://alyssaavantandcompany.com), for her tech genius and help with this podcast.

Autism can present in many different ways, but at its core it's about social communication. Autism is usually suspected at a young age because children aren't developing language or social skills at the same rate as their peers. Sometimes parents don't want to have their child screened for autism because they are afraid of labels, stigma and limitations. But while overwhelming, diagnosis can also bring support, services and maybe even relief. Don't miss this special podcast episode with two CHC experts who are also parents of young children with autism: Sarah Knepper, MEd, Educational Services Manager at EBC Schools and Cristal Byrne, PhD, licensed psychologist at CHC's Catherine T.
