Amaya Athill joins Brendan Stasiewich on the PGA of Canada podcast to discuss the work that earned her the 2024 Warren Crosbie Community Leader of the Year Award. Amaya started her career as an attorney-at-law and was called to the Bar of England and Wales, Antigua, and Ontario. Amaya spent the first 10 years of her career practicing in Antigua and the United Kingdom in the areas of civil litigation, international law, and human rights. A golfer since the age of 5, after moving to Canada in early 2022, Amaya began working in the golf industry. Currently she is the Manager at Golf Canada where she manages the implementation of First Tee in Ontario, a program that provides opportunities for young people from historically excluded and systemically marginalized communities to access golf. Amaya qualified became a PGA of Canada Apprentice Professional in May 2023 and is one of the few black women members. Amaya has a passion for introducing BIPOC women to golf and her coaching is primarily focused on instruction of groups of beginner golfers within this demographic. In 2022 she founded Black Women Golfers, a group dedicated to creating space for Black women to learn, practice, and play golf. Amaya is an avid advocate for accessibility and diversity in the sport and utilizes her social media (IG: @golf_interrupted) to conduct interviews with BIPOC women in golf, highlight the importance of municipal golf, and collaborate with BIPOC golfers of varying levels.
Dr. Luke Benoit is constantly innovating. With a deep understanding of motor learning and biomechanics, the use of science in his coaching has helped his students in the past five years win five state high school championships in Minnesota, five state opens and five state amateurs. Brendan Stasiewich sat down with Dr. Benoit for an informative conversation about how more pros can use science to help their students improve.

Recognized in 2019 as one of GOLF's “Top 100 Teachers in America,” Whaley's resume includes: Golf Digest Top 50 Instructor LPGA Top 50 Instructor Two-time Connecticut PGA Teacher of the Year 10-time Golf Digest State Teacher of the Year U.S. Kids Golf Master Kids Teacher She is a five-time PGA Jr. League Championship finals Coach and has instructed more than 300 children to collegiate golf. Previously, she enjoyed a five-year tenure at Jim Flick Golf Schools, before becoming the Head Golf Professional at Blue Fox Run in Avon, Connecticut, in 2002. From 2004-06, she worked as an LPGA golf commentator for ESPN, and began her own instruction and coaching business, Suzy Whaley Golf, after ESPN. A dual member of the PGA of America and LPGA Teaching & Club Professional division, Whaley was an LPGA Tour member in 1990 and 1993. She famously qualified and participated in the 2003 Greater Hartford Open, becoming the first woman since Babe Zaharias in 1945 to qualify for a PGA Tour event. This occurred after Whaley became the first PGA of America woman professional to win the Connecticut PGA Championship. Whaley also is a three-time Connecticut Women's Open Champion; National LPGA Teaching & Club Professional winner; Connecticut PGA Section Champion; Connecticut PGA Club Professional Champion; and a two-time LPGA Northeast T&CP Section Champion. She competed in both the 2002 and 2005 PGA Professional Championships. Whaley also recently competed in the USGA Senior Women's Open, as well at the LPGA Senior Women's Championship. A 2016 Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame inductee, Whaley also serves on both the ANNIKA Foundation Board and the PGA Tour Policy Board. In addition, she is an Honorary Director for the First Tee of Connecticut. Whaley was honored with the 2017 Betsy Rawls Award from the American Junior Golf Association for her service, dedication and contributions to women's golf. She was also named a 2015 Sports Business Journal “Game Changer,” cited as a woman leader who has had a major impact on sports business. Whaley also received the 2015 Margo Dydek Award from the WNBA's Connecticut Sun, for her ability to engage, challenge and inspire, while serving as a role model. A 1989 graduate of the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor's Degree in economics, Whaley and her husband, Bill, are both PGA Members. Bill is the National Director of Golf for the PGA Tour Properties Division. They have two daughters, Jennifer and Kelly.

Williams presently has a record of 203-66-11-11 behind the bench in his WHL career, earning his 200th career win on Oct. 12, 2022. He was promoted to the dual position of general manager and head coach on Jul. 12, 2021. And of course, he led the World Junior hockey team to a gold medal this past holiday season in Halifax.

She joined UC after coaching at Brandon University for two seasons. Prior to that, she served as an Assistant Coach for the University of Victoria for three years as a full time student at the National Coaching Institute. Back in the day:) Shawnee was a basketball student-athlete at the University of Victoria and a member of two CIS National Championship teams led by coaching legend Kathy Shields. Recently, she worked for Basketball Alberta as the Director of Coaching Development and the Technical Director. Today she is a Master Coach Developer and Master Learning Facilitator for the National Coaching Certification Program where she trains and mentors both advanced and novice coaches from all sports. Since winning matters not only in sport but also in business, Shawnee has become a sought after corporate coach, life coach, mental toughness coach and motivational speaker. Her vast experience in the elite world of sport transfers directly to the boardroom where success is talent oriented and people driven. She is currently training corporate managers to become wise and insightful while leading their team to winning results.

Todd talks about what kind of posts on Instagram have helped him best reach students and grow his business. ABOUT TODD HALPEN Todd has spent 27 years dedicated to the game of golf. With an extensive competitive, instruction and business career in the game, Todd's experience is second to none. Having competed on the PGA Tour Canada, PGA Tour, international amateur events, his playing experience gives him an advantage over other teaching professionals that either don't compete anymore, or never really did. His work building the Swinkey (now Golfers Toolbox) from 2009-2013 has him more connected and researched than instructors twice his age. The Swinkey is the only training tool to receive a perfect score. He continues to train every day for competitive golf, and competes across Alberta and the rest of Canada every year. Not many other instructors can do this.
Learn from 2013 teacher of the year, Rob Houlding as we walk through his evolution of indoor golf facilities and dive into all the details you need to know if you're thinking of launching your own. We talk about everything from a set up to just get you started through Rob's current facility and what his set up looks like today. First Step: Know your audience! What do they want and will they be interested in training year round? Rob's market was (and still is) high performing juniors and elite performers and they were already practicing and playing year round, so adding the indoor facility was a no brainer. Space and Environment: You control your environment and every aspect of the students experience, make sure to engage and inspire students with your space. In his first space Rob didn't pay much attention to the environment and quickly realized it was pretty boring. After that he's always place an emphasis on making things more “golf like” even though student are indoors. Rob shares the exact dimensions and layouts he's tried over the years and walks through his best suggestions for getting started (plus ideas on budgets as well). Technology: We look at what the minimum amount tech Rob recommends and potential budget in place for just getting started with your first facility. Business: There's more revenue that can be generated besides just instruction with an indoor facility. Rob shares the top ideas that have worked at his different facilities over the years. Finance: We run through the numbers and talk about how to make this all work in the real world.
