With the NCAA Regional's is there a way to cover those events to give college golf more exposure. Are the logistics of doing such too much to handle? Could they follow in the footsteps of the Epson Tour with live streaming on the likes of Twitter or YouTube. NCAA sports... Do you like it more than professional sports. A prize purse increase on the LPGA Tour at their Amundi Evian Championship. Minjee Lee wins the Cognizant Founder's Cup at New Jersey's Upper Montclair Country Club. Whipping out things onto the table. Like the, to be reviewed, Tanto Golf Divot Repair Tool. We talk other equipment like Breakthrough Golf Technology's Stability Tour Fire putter shaft. Either way, the PGA TOUR is in Oklahoma and this week is the PGA Championship. We list our picks. There might be flag waving involved. Doug goes all "Brandel Chamblee" about Jon Rahm. Major performers in Major Championships. And yes, Tiger Woods is a part of the conversation. Yes Greg Norman, everybody does make mistakes. I met him once and I talk about that disappointment. Swing For The Green - Harley Abrams

As Operations Manager for SuperSpeed Golf, Harley Abrams knows that the main channels for consumers into golf, the two primary ways that players get the equipment they need to play the game, are direct to consumer sales, such as ordering clubs, bags or apparel straight from Ping or Titleist, and big box stores like Golf Town, who specialize in having every major brand names at brick and mortar locations, but generally make their profits on marking up the product offered.   Unique to golf though, explains Abrams, is a third avenue, what those in the industry call Green Grass stores, the pro shops, located on every golf course on Earth, big or small. The product in these stores can range from tailored sets and limited editions,  to ziplock bags of lost balls sold by the pound, but they all sell at the very least a round of golf, often acting as the course's front office, which means any customer who enters that store is a reliable buyer, someone already putting down money on the sport. What's more, while Covid-19 shut down or heavily restricted how many customers could use big box stores, pro shops and golf courses maintained a low but steady number of customers on and off the course, thanks to the four-player nature of the sport. This allowed SuperSpeed Golf to continue selling and promoting to active customers, craving escape in the great outdoors. Here's what the phenomenon of Green Grass stores can teach other e-commerce operators and business owners about blended distribution channels. Find your own patch of Green Grass. Getting in with the big box stores can take years of constant hustle and stress, and winning your way to partnering with a major direct to consumer brand more often than not means selling part if not all of your product to them, rights and all.  You need somewhere safe that you can establish your brand and start making your presence known, without having to bend to the terms of a larger partner, where you can have a more personal engagement with your core customers. Not every product is going to have a communal spot like a pro shop, you may have to look for other universal touch points, like famous fans and users of your product, or annual events. Sales will be spotty at first, but above all you're selling your brand at this point, and buying exposure to a wider audience of interested buyers. Settle down and get comfortable. Don't spend your time trying to get the attention of the big box retailers you dream of someday seeing yourself in, they don't make decisions about which products to partner with based on how persistent they are. Establish your brand, first and foremost. Sales, and the potential profit others can make from your product, are what matters, so spend your time focussing on selling as much as you can through smaller Green Grass channels. Prove that your products are popular and your brand is capable first, the big box stores will eventually take notice and follow in their own time, often eager to make a deal. Invite your friends. Celebrate and share stories about your users and product, how people use your products, who uses them, and new ways people come up with using your product. Your consumers, all of your consumers not just the influencers and celebrities, are your product testers, so listen to them when they find errors, fixes, new uses and unexpected outcomes.  Their ideas, freely offered, may be what takes your brand into the mass market, or finds a weakness that could have irrevocably broken it if left unaddressed.  Positive buzz and word of mouth are still the most trusted ways to make a sale, no matter how advanced marketing technology becomes. Find your own patch of Green Grass, set up shop wherever you can lay down roots, and let your brand and product become known to your customers by presence, convenience and word of mouth, and soon enough you won't have to worry about putting your neck on the line selling to big box retailers, they'll follow the customers back to...

Guest: CEO Coaching International’s Stephen Bebis. Stephen held a variety of senior merchandising roles at Home Depot before being named the VP General Merchandise Manager for the Mid-South Division. He also founded Aikenhead's Improvement Warehouse and built it to $1 billion in sales before selling it to Home Depot. After the acquisition, Stephen served as President and CEO of Home Depot Canada and chairman of the Aikenhead/Home Depot Partnership Board. Stephen also founded Golf Town, built it to 65 stores, and took the company public. Episode in a Tweet: There's always a crisis somewhere. The best leaders have a continuous planning process and the right people to execute it. Quick Background: When Stephen Bebis joined Home Depot in 1984 the company had just 14 stores. When he left in 1990, he was running a $20 billion division as a head merchant and was the VP of the southern part of the country. And while some might look back on the ’80s and early ‘90s as a booming time for business, think about everything that happened during the 6 years that Stephen helped Home Depot grow. Two presidential elections. Black Monday, 1987. Tumult in the Middle East, including Russia’s invasion of Afghanistan. Not to mention annual hurricane seasons and other unpredictable disasters. No, running a business isn’t easy during Covid-19. But as Stephen discusses on today’s show, CEOs always have to be prepared to adjust to unforeseen circumstances and refocus their efforts on how to satisfy and grow their customer base.

Today's guest is Jason Craig, an Independant Designer & Illustrator in Augusta GA. Golf Town! Jason shares with us that he is from the "blue-collar" midwest so design and creative was a bit of a right turn initially. He tells us about his first real design project being a 3 on 3 basketball tournament tshirt design, how he took it super seriously, but it was also the same project where he started seeing design and type not working together. He tells us about a job where he was doing poster designs for Kevin Hart and Perez Hall, and a wild story about how he was asked by Pastor Troy to design his album cover art! I huge lesson in his design career came from that too. We also talk about a board room kick in the gut he received after pouring months into a project... So much in this episode!

If you visited a Golf Town store just 12 months ago – you would have seen a very different company than the innovative brand which stands before you today. Making the decision to buy back its namesake from its US counterpart, Golfsmith, was just the first step on its transformative journey to re-establish itself as a premier, stand-alone Canadian golf retailer. And this year has been one for the books. While many retailers are facing declining foot-traffic, decreasing sales and store closures, Golf Town marches forward. Between relaunching their brand, to rebuilding their culture (in partnership with their store associates, no less), to introducing experiential store concepts across the country – Golf Town relishes in the unique opportunity to create a fresh foundation. One that is built on an evolved purpose, a forward-thinking strategy and encompasses its renewed core values: team, winning, adaptation and authenticity. But how does a brand in transition, faced with the uncertainty of today’s retail landscape, bring its brand to life and create an enduring foundation? We had the opportunity to speak with Sue Gilpin, Director of HR at Golf Town, to discuss the organization’s remarkable transformation.
