Hey all! On this episode of the Love & Life Podcast with me, Elizabeth Cunningham, I share about why you should even listen to me (or not!). I think it's really important to know someone's background, where they come from, and what schools of thought they may be influenced by. This gives a context for listening to someone. However, I don't think this is the end all be all of someone's (or in this case 'my') credentials. There is a difference in experiential v academic knowledge. And, it may depend on the listener, as well. Maybe you are someone who values higher education. Maybe you are someone who values experience. Maybe you think having a healthy dose of both is best. It is my attention in this episode to share with you the birds-eye view of my experience so that you have a general understanding of where I'm coming from and so you can choose how to listen to me or if you even want to at all! . Elizabeth Cunningham is a gifted writer and author of the the Maeve Chronicles, a series of novels following the life of Maeve, later known as Mary Magdalene, and her relationship with Jesus. In the Maeve Chronicles, we see the Gospel stories through the eyes of Mary Magdalene and hear in a new way the power of Jesus' teachings about reclaiming the divinity within us. We also see how Jesus and Mary helped to reweave the wisdom of the Sacred Masculine and Sacred Feminine in their lives and in their ministries. Jesus, Buddha and other spiritual teachers brought in the mystical roots of all of the great religions at the onset of the Age of Pisces 2000 years ago. In her storytelling, Elizabeth helps us to remember the deeper meaning of those early teachings that subsequently became distorted across the history of Christianity. I believe that we need to reclaim that deeper wisdom of the Age of Pisces to support us in moving into the Age of Aquarius. Our Story  You must meet Maeve, the Celtic Magdalen, the heroine of the four novels in Elizabeth Cunningham's The Maeve Chronicles. From her beginnings on the Celtic Island of Women Tír Na mBán, to “Druid School” on the Isle of Mona, and then on to Rome, the Galilee, southern France, and then back to Britain when Queen Boudicca of the Iceni was battling for her tribe and her sovereignty, Maeve has see it all.  Her sensibilities are both ancient and modern, and make her one of fiction's most powerful, enduring characters.  Elizabeth reads excerpts from Magdalen Rising, in which Maeve meets the Cailleach and gets her first sex-ed lesson from her warrior witch mothers and from Red Robed Priestess, the final novel in the series. Our Guest Elizabeth Cunningham is a novelist, poet, musician, and counselor based in New York's Hudson Valley.  She is the author and illustrator of The Book of Madge, a graphic novel, and the source of her best known work, The Maeve Chronicles. Her earlier novels include The Wild Mother, The Return of the Goddess, and How to Spin Gold. Her debut mystery novel Murder at the Rummage Sale and its sequel All the Perils of this Night (which can also be read as a stand-alone thriller), and most of her previous novels, will be reprinted by Monkfish Book Publishing in 2023 and 2024. Our Conversation When I picked up the first “Maeve book” over a decade ago, I felt an instant jolt of recognition. I felt the same when I met Maeve's creator, Elizabeth Cunningham at a writing workshop a few years later. Since then, Elizabeth has become a mentor and guide to me, helping me birth my own book (and all of my creative endeavors!) In our chat, we explore: * “Sovereignty, Maeve, belonging to yourself. Host, Elizabeth Cunningham, talks with Scott MacDonald, creator of End of the Innocence, about the importance of consent, why it seems to be so logical yet so illusive and what we can do to create a culture of consent. Click the link below to attend his free event, Culture of Consent: How do We Get There? Scott MacDonald is a former mathematics educator turned software engineer. He started End of the Innocence in November 2017 to bring about cultural change with the goal of eliminating sexual harassment and assault. End of the Innocence is about having conversations that lead to discovering what consent is to you, how you have interacted with it in the past and what you can do in the future. Many people think they know a lot more about consent than they really do. They "know", for example, that it's about sex. That's not necessarily true. We can teach children about consent from an early age that they have the right to decide what does and doesn't happen with their body and that others have that right, too. Then there's consent and long-running sexual relationships; how explicit does consent need to be? Does it suffice in that case for someone to simply not say "no" (assuming they're capable of doing so)? There are a lot of myths about consent and our conversation begins to dispel some of them. On this episode, host, Elizabeth Cunningham, talk with Shaun Hamilton, Video Editor, Gender Violence Advocate, Artist, Entrepreneur and my former "Sound Guy" reflects on his life as a white man in America and where his privilege has showed up. Some Topics that We Cover - How we are taught about cops as white kids growing up vs. how black and brown kids were taught about police. - Talking about how white girls are taught that if they cry that things will be ok or that it will get them out of things (ex: speeding tickets). - Concerning Black Lives Matter and the fight for racial equality: We need sustained action. There are a lot of minor victories up front but we need to keep going and keep taking action. - That everyone, all humans, no matter their color, desire love, happiness and connection. We may have different cultures, skin tones, backgrounds and we should celebrate that. And if we can see each other as fellow human beings and see ourselves in one another, we can come together in that and then celebrate our differences. - How do you stand as an individual and how do you stand as a business? What's the line between taking a stance as a business and news-jacking? - How this all ties back into love. If we stand for love, justice, equality then we can't be worried about always "getting it right" we have to keep coming from that place, taking actions, being held accountable if those actions didn't work, and then keep going. Listen in with host, Elizabeth Cunningham and polyamorous coach, Steve Yang, as Steve talks about how we've trained the people around us, how they can be with us and how we can "re-train" them how to be with us. A little bit about Steve: “I'm Steve Yang. I'm 41 years old, and I've been polyamorous for 7 years now. I have 1 life partner, and am dating 3 other women. My life partner is married (to someone else), has kids with him, and also one other lover in addition to me. I'm also a Relationship Coach, specializing in polyamory and non-monogamy, with 7 years of training and experience. I help polyamorous people who are struggling with communication and intimacy to restore love and authenticity so they can be free and empowered in their relationships.” You can reach me at: steve@coachsteveyang.com And my web site: www.coachsteveyang.com Thank you for listening to Love Dripping from the Walls! There were more than two women in this conversation. Maeve, aka Mary Magdalen, was not only in the room, she took over. Elizabeth Cunningham spent twenty years following the directives of that voice to write The Maeve Chronicles. Join us for wild stories, hair-raising biblical quotations, and spontaneous goddess songs. But in the end, the conversation landed where Magdalen and Jesus wanted it to: asking us to close the concentration camps by praying for those who persecute us. Talk about real prayer! “A story is true if it is well told.” We open this episode with a line from novelist Elizabeth Cunningham’s Maeve Chronicles, a series of books that reimagines Mary Magdelen as a Celtic warrior woman. It’s a brilliant truth when we’re talking about myth and fiction, but it’s terribly problematic it comes to contemporary politics. In this episode, Marisa and Rebecca discuss alternative facts, how they influence relationships, and what they have to do with storytelling.   What were the Women’s Marches about? Equality, standing against injustice, and making the holistic vision a reality: when something happens to one part, it happens to the whole.   “Can I believe you, can I trust you, do I feel safe?” These are basic questions we ask when determining whether we can feel secure in a relationship. In this episode we get into the concept of “gaslighting” and how it shows up in relationships and in women’s experiences.   Do we have different expectations about the role of truth and storytelling when it comes to our intimate relationships and the relationship between a citizen and a leader? To be storyteller is to be given great privilege and to take on great responsibility. We like to think it’s a creative, loving act, but it’s also an act of manipulation.   We need facts that we can all agree upon in order to create a nation. How do we settle on those facts?  We live in interesting times and we’re mired in the messy middle. Right now, we have more questions than answers and stories are being used in a way that seems more destructive than sacred.   You can reclaim how you live into your own stories and the stories you hear. Who gets to narrate your reality? Ultimately, you narrate your own.   PS: On second listen, Marisa realized that “we hold these truths to be self evident” is actually in the Declaration of Independence, not the US Constitution. For more on how stories shape relationships and relationships shape stories, visit Rebecca and Marisa at www.practiceofbeingseen.com.   For more on Elizabeth Cunningham’s work, please visit: www.elizabethcunninghamwrites.com

There has been so much written about both the real and the symbolic Mary Magdalene. What might those stories have to teach us today? Where does the old and the new intersect? I’ll be diving deeply into that with my guest today, author Elizabeth Cunningham. Stay tuned for something very special. The power of "going into the dark"The bridge between the stories of the Bible and the stories of other culturesWhy her character, Maeve, has taken on a life of her own and how she is relevant todayEncountering the Divine as femaleHow we ARE the EarthDeveloping an eye and an ear and a heart for beauty.Elizabeth Cunningham is the descendant of nine generations of Episcopal priests. She grew up hearing rich (sometimes terrifying) liturgical and biblical language. When she was not in church or school, she read fairy tales and fantasy novels or wandered in the enchanted wood of an overgrown, abandoned estate next door to the rectory. Her religious background, the magic of fairy tales, and the numinous experience of nature continue to inform her work.Elizabeth is best known for The Maeve Chronicles, a series of award-winning novels featuring a feisty Celtic Magdalene.
