From Marinda K Dennis: I wanted to share my story in hopes of helping others who are struggling with grief right now, especially those on the spectrum. My 15-year-old daughter took her life this past year. She was bright, vibrant, and full of life. Her 12-year-old brother, Andrew, is autistic. It has been quite the journey attempting to navigate my own grief while helping him through his. She was his world. He was her little shadow who followed her everywhere and wanted to be just like her in everything he did. He is now lost without her. I want to share what I have learned, what we have been through, and what has led us on this journey of trying to help others heal from pain. Andrew was in a fatal car accident with his father five years ago, and Andrew sustained multiple life-threatening injuries. We had to ensure that he was stabilized before we could even tell him that his father did not make it. It has been a long and hard journey for him through the years, and yet he's thriving right now despite it all. The 2019 police killing of Kawaski Trawick inside his own Bronx apartment has not received the same attention as similar cases across the country. But this week, an NYPD disciplinary trial began for two officers involved in the fatal shooting. The NYPD says the 32-year-old rushed at officers while holding a knife during the interaction, which lasted under two minutes and was caught on body camera footage. The Trawick family and advocates are calling for accountability after the Bronx district attorney declined to bring charges and an internal NYPD probe found no wrongdoing. The administrative trial will resume in mid-May.  In an effort to understand the fatal encounter better, Errol Louis talked about the case with Kawaski Trawick's parents, Ellen and Ricky Trawick; Loyda Colon, the executive director of the nonprofit Justice Committee; Eric Umansky, the editor at large from ProPublica; and Marinda van Dalen, a senior staff attorney for New York Lawyers for the Public Interest.  Join the conversation, weigh in on Twitter using the hashtag #NY1YouDecide or give us a call at 212-379-3440 and leave a message. Join us for the next episode of the Our Daily Magic Podcast (LIVE from the Facebook Group) as "I am Magickai" aka Kaí and Dell Henderson aka The True Essence Connector will be interviewing Skye Marinda.  Skye Marinda is a Tarot Coach in Washington, D.C. She has had the honor of giving over 400 tarot readings and leading spiritual workshops to over 100 people from all over the world. Combining spiritual and practical insights, Skye believes tarot has the power to deepen your perspective so that you can take the next steps towards the future you want.  The episode started with Skye sharing her story of when she started with tarot reading where she mentions she was an atheist (4:42) and explaining why she became an atheist (8:55). Moving on, Kai asks her style, on what kind of cards she use, and her clients (13:12).  Dell then asks both Kai and Skye (as tarot readers) if they think that the outcome of the reading is based on everything the client have done up until that moment (17:15). Skye shares her practice when reading (18:02) then Kai shares her own as well (19:13). He also asks on how do people who are uncertain of their future discover it through the help of tarot (20:52).  Since Skye is a tarot coach (based from her bio), Kai was curious on what's the difference from the everyday tarot reader and what do people see that makes them come back (23:09).  Kai then asks about Halloween, and its effect on Skye's readings where Sky mentions the nearing Samhain (26:00).  Kai became excited when Skye mentions her deck that she designed by herself as Kai is a deck designer as well (33:20). They discuss further on her style and decks as well as her deck preferences (35:12).  When asked about her future plans, she mentions that she would be launching her Youtube account the next day to reach more people (46:04). Be sure to check it out! She then gave advice to tarot reading aspirants to "not listen to the inner perfectionist" (49:43). As a treat, she did a mini reading live for all the viewers and listeners (55:23).  Listen to the whole episode to know about stuff related to tarot reading and MORE! E125:   Using your creative background to create a business that supports people is a great thing! Today we speak to Skye Marinda who is a Tarot Coach from D.C. Not sure what that is? I wasn't either because she made it with the tools and super powers she has. Coming from a background in art school and a love for Tarot reading she works with people in Tarot as a medium to gain confidence in themselves and work through their thoughts internally. She has given over 400 readings and 100 workshops worldwide. You don't have to know anything about Tarot readings to love this episode because I didn't know anything while interviewing!

Valeria Teles interviews Marinda Freeman —  the author of The Grief Train: A Healing Journey of Love, Loss and Renewal Marinda is a life-long spiritual student of many religions and disciplines. She has been a licensed spiritual counselor and teacher for over 20 years. Her book, The Grief Train, was the result of her personal exploration of grief after her husband died unexpectedly of a heart attack. She started a blog to write about her process and discovered that friends found solace and inspiration in reading her blog. Over a five-year period of studying grief as an emotion and mourning as a ritual and process, Marinda discovered the mourning etiquette of the 1800's that we no longer know or follow. She wrote her book in order to provide a gentle, spiritual, non-religious approach to grief as a way to help others. “I discovered after writing The Grief Train, that it was really an exploration of the meaning of death, of loss”, Marinda says.  “What did my husband's death mean?  What does widow mean?” Marinda has had a successful event design business for 35 years.  She is passionate about creating community and connection – the true purpose of every event.  Marinda designs events that bring people together – where they feel comfortable, inspired, and at ease in connecting with others.  She helps her clients think differently about their events for greater success – and to create not just results but memories. “For me, it's all about creating beauty – what the event looks like, and more importantly what it FEELS like.  I create beauty everywhere – in the home, the garden, and in the food I prepare.” Altars are another way to create beauty.  It could be an entryway arrangement signaling welcome, peace is here; or an altar designed for a meditation space, or to honor the loss of a loved one, or used more formally as a ritual, as explained in the book. Food is another life-long passion of Marinda's.  As a chef, she has taught cooking classes, developed recipes, and was Executive Director of Martha Stewart's catering business. As her husband Mike, was also a chef, she had to include recipes in her book. Marinda has lived in beautiful Marin County, California since 1991 and raised her daughter, Esther, there.   To learn more about Marinda Freeman and her work please visit: https://www.thegrieftrain.com/   — This podcast is a quest for well-being, a quest for a meaningful life to the exploration of fundamental truths, enlightening ideas, insights on physical, mental, and spiritual health. My great-grandfather, Samuel Bateman, was born in Manchester, England in 1832, converted to the Church, and came to Utah in 1850. He met Marinda Allen, my great-grandmother, in 1853 as he ferried her across the Jordan River and married her the following year. He was 22 and she was 16. In later years he took a second wife, Harriett Egbert (who actually had been a baby when her parents came to Samuel and Marinda’s wedding dinner). Marinda gave birth to thirteen children and Harriet had eight. Marinda’s youngest child, Juliaetta, was my grandmother. She wrote a biography of Marinda, with much about the family and her own life, entitling it Little Gold Pieces. This article is about that book.

Mormon Polyandry: More than One Husband

Gospel Tangents Podcast

When we talk about Mormon polygamy, we usually mean polygyny—where a man has more than 1 wife.  The opposite of that is polyandry, where a woman can have more than 1 husband.  Did you know that Joseph was sealed to women who were already married?  In this episode, Dr. Brian Hales talks about several of these instances.  We'll talk in detail about one of these women, Sylvia Session Lyon.  She gave birth to a girl named daughter, Josephine, and Josephine's mother said she was the child of Joseph.  They did a DNA test to see if Josephine was the daughter of Joseph or Windsor. I theorized that the marriage between Joseph Smith and Sylvia Sessions Lyon did include sexual relations in that plural marriage, and I had some theories as how that might have unfolded.  When the DNA evidence came back—and part of the theory was that Joseph was the father of Josephine [daughter of Sylvia Sessions Lyon.]  That's an important point.  But when the DNA evidence came back that Windsor Lyon was the father, it required me to re-write things.  I'll be honest with you.  It wasn't what I expected, but it was what I had hoped. Brian now believes that there were no sexual relations between Joseph and any of these 11-14 polyandrous marriages. Brian:  Why the women chose Joseph over their legal husbands, sometimes these men were active Latter-day Saints, we don't know.  It seems odd.  But it's not as odd as them practicing actual sexual polyandry without anybody ever talking about it or finding that to be controversial. GT:  Ok, so your opinion is of all the eleven polyandrous marriages, where a woman could have two husbands essentially, none of them involved sexual relations. Brian:  Correct. GT:  That's your opinion.  Ok.  So let's talk a little bit about… Brian:  Rick, let me interrupt though.  If people go to my books, they're going to be confused because I used the word eleven.  The twelfth polyandrous marriage on the chart is Sarah Ann Whitney to Joseph C. Kingsbury, which was a front marriage.  Everybody involved with that realized that she was sealed to Joseph but apparently there was some legal issues going on, so Joseph asked Kingsbury to have a legal marriage but not consummate the marriage.  Everybody agrees that was the relationship.  That's number twelve. Number thirteen is Lucinda Pendleton who we just know nothing about, and the fourteenth one is to Mary Herron who we have one attestation that connects her to Joseph sexually but we don't know any of the details.  If somebody goes to my chart, there's actually fourteen women on that but eleven of them we believe were eternity-only, two are undocumented so just take your guess, and then we have this pretend marriage with Sarah Ann, so fourteen in total. He theorizes that this was Joseph's attempt to satisfy the angel with a flaming sword.  Joseph was completing these sealings in order to fulfill the angel's command and also placate Emma. We also address the rumor that Joseph sent men on missions so he could marry their wives. Brian nods:  The problem is we have two sealing dates for Joseph and Marinda.  The other date is from an affidavit Marinda signed that is well after Orson Hyde returning from Palestine.  Even the one that appears to be a case where Joseph might have sent him on a mission, then he waits a year—it doesn't make sense.  A year later we have Joseph being sealed to Marinda, but again we have a second date.  The second date is a signed affidavit which we probably would consider to be more reliable than something that was just scrawled on a page in Joseph's journal, not in his handwriting but in I think Thomas Bullock's [handwriting.]  Again that story is false, yet it's a sound bite.  It's all over the internet.  We've got to kill it.  It's wrong.  It's false.  Joseph did not send men on missions and so he could marry their wives according to any reliable documentation. Why do you think that Joseph was sealed to other men's wives?
