In this special episode Will takes a deep dive into the Netflix documentary Hell Camp: Teen Nightmare, which explores the infamous Challenger Foundation—a adolescent wilderness therapy program in the late 1980s that became a cautionary tale of abuse and unethical practices. Will reflects on the emotional impact of the film, the human cost of profit-driven models, and the ripple effects of Challenger's abusive culture on the broader field of wilderness therapy. Drawing on his extensive research and writings, he examines how the program's legacy continues to shape the evolution of ethical standards and regulatory oversight in outdoor behavioral healthcare. The episode also features insights from undergraduate students in Will's Wilderness Therapy class at Plymouth State University. These students share their fresh perspectives on the documentary and discuss the broader complexities of wilderness therapy, including their views on consent, ethical practices, and the role of outdoor experiences in healing. Their reflections, shaped by personal and professional experiences, underscore the importance of learning from the past to create safer and more effective programs today. Together, Will and his students offer a nuanced exploration of the challenges and potential of wilderness therapy as a tool for mental health treatment. Will's doctoral dissertation is free on Proquest: Stories from the Elders: Chronicles and Narratives from the Early Years of Wilderness Therapy.

With the amount of time folks invest in their news feeds, social scrolls, podcasts, and hot-takes, you'd think we'd have a better grasp on “the whole picture.” But we only operate with a partial perspective regardless of the situation or issue. Billy Carson and Matthew LaCroix see it differently. They prove that the earth is not a closed system and contacts have very well taken place. Thus they contradict the straight prevailing spirit of the age. This needs courage. I recommend THE EPIC OF HUMANITY book as a groundbreaking look into the new reasoning and evidence. The old one has had its day.Erich von Däniken Best Seling Autor Chariots Of The Gods?'Book Reviews:"In their bold interrogation of the world's most ancient texts, Billy Carson and Matthew Lacroix have fearlessly peeled back the pages of time to bring us deeper layers of information - information which, if we take it seriously, defies everything we thought we knew about the origins and potential of human beings. If you are ready to have your deepest assumptions challenged, this epic journey is one you won't want to miss."Paul Wallis - 5thkind - Bestselling author of "The Eden Conspiracy."“My congratulations to Matthew LaCroix and Billy Carson on the publishing of their new book The Epic Of Humanity. In it they delve into the increasing evidence that ancient megalithic sites in many parts of the world were created long before the standard academic timeline of human civilizations being at most 6000 years old. Ice cores, oral traditions and ancient scripts tell us that prior to the end of the last ice age very advanced technological people created astonishing works in stone in different locations that were later inherited by cultures who repurposed them for their own needs.Matthew and Billy are helping to rewrite human history and to correct errors that standard academia has either ignored or dismissed. A brave effort and well worth reading and digesting.” Brien Foerster hiddenincatoursMatthew LaCroix is a passionate writer and researcher who grew up in the outdoors of northern New England. From an early age, a strong connection back to nature was established and built into the morals of his life. His persistent yearning for adventure led him into profound, life-changing experiences that inspired him to write for local and national magazines such as Backpacker and AMC Outdoors. While attending Plymouth State University, he published his first book at the age of 22 and began studying history, philosophy, quantum mechanics, and superstring theory. His focus became uncovering and connecting the esoteric teachings from secret societies and ancient cultures that disappeared long ago in our past. At 32 he published his second book; "The Illusion of Us", which combined years of research to discover the truth about history, human origins, as well as the fundamentals of consciousness. In 2019 he will be releasing his third book entitled; "The Stage of Time", which represents a compilation of ancient writings and theoretical physics in order to answer some of our most difficult questions. Every facet reflects a world of colors, and each sculpture captures a symphony of light.  Growing up in New Hampshire as a talented athlete and motivated student, Storms didn't discover his passion for art until his twenties, at the end of which he earned his BA in art with a focus on studio production from Plymouth State University. During his junior year, the young artist began apprenticing at the studio of coldworking artist Toland Sand, who was combining lead crystal and dichroic glass via a cold-glass process. Eventually Storms became a strong enough sculptor to branch out on his own and in 2004 opened StormWorks Studio. Storms' unique cold-glass process can take up to 10 weeks. He begins at the heart of the design by creating a core of lead crystal which is cut, polished and laminated creating reflective mirrors. When wrapped in optical glass, the refraction of light as it passes through the glass art creates rainbows of hypnotic color. The process requires repetitive cutting, grinding and polishing, and relies upon Fibonacci's theory of natural mathematics found in nature.  States Storms: “Natural beauty is created, not manufactured. From the repetition of florets in a flower to the scales of a pineapple's skin, Fibonacci numbers are found in the pattern of growth of every living thing in nature.”  Both challenged and inspired by the notion that his artistic goals were impossible, early on Storms invented a cold-working lathe uniquely suited to his process. His invention offered the artist the ability to turn glass and sculpt shapes with curves and details like one would produce from a wooden medium. Early memories of studying his father's craftsmanship on a wood lathe provided him with the blueprint for his vision. Pioneering new trails in the world of fine art has always motivated Storms.  Seen by the world in multiple viral videos featuring his kaleidoscopic and prismatic cold-fusion glass sculptures, Storms' pieces have also been featured in Marvel's film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1, and the artist created a life-sized bat to commemorate Derek Jeter's 3000th Hit. Storms' laborious process of repetitive cutting, grinding and polishing requires intense passion and rigid self-discipline, resulting in his signature works of contemporary glass art. Currently, Storms is developing new designs for wearable art. These wearable sculpture designs follow the same creative process and spirit as the artist's larger, more dynamic sculptures. He says: “My design philosophy revolves around creating something that fosters a closer connection with people. I want people to have a personal item they can take with them and truly fall in love with.  I believe the future holds great promise for wearable art, and I anticipate seeing its prevalence grow in the coming years.” Go to https://jackstorms.com?bg_ref=y1fqAS0f55for 10 percent off your Jack Storms artwork purchase! In this book, Abby L. Goode reveals the foundations of American environmentalism and its enduring connections to racism, eugenics, and agrarian ideals. Throughout the nineteenth century, writers as diverse as Martin Delany, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and Walt Whitman worried about unsustainable conditions such as population growth and plantation slavery. In response, they imagined agrotopias—sustainable societies unaffected by the nation's agricultural and population crises—elsewhere. Though seemingly progressive, these agrotopian visions depicted selective breeding and racial "improvement" as the path to environmental stability. In this fascinating study, Goode uncovers an early sustainability rhetoric interested in shaping, just as much as sustaining, the American population. Showing how ideas about race and reproduction were central to early sustainability thinking, Goode unearths an alternative environmental archive that ranges from gothic novels to Black nationalist manifestos, from Waco, Texas, to the West Indies, from city tenements to White House kitchen gardens. Exposing the eugenic foundations of some of our most well-regarded environmental traditions, this book compels us to reexamine the benevolence of American environmental thought. In this Nomad Futurist podcast, Bill Skinner, Operations Services Manager at Bloomberg LP, shares a dynamic journey highlighted by a commitment to constant learning in the critical infrastructure space — a path that has led him to operationalize training programs at Bloomberg and serve as a data center evangelist within the tech community through his position as President of the NYC/NJ metro chapter of AFCOM. Skinner had a natural proclivity for tech from an early age. His first computer was a Tandy 500 which he tinkered with, broke, reassembled and improved. In high school he excelled at computers, studying programming languages and software development as well as electronics. “My dad said, ‘you're going into computers.'” After graduating college with an IT degree and despite the dot-com crash, he managed to get hired by Sun Microsystems supporting Bloomberg financial. He hit the ground running. At Sun he received intensive training in data center engineering, learning about hardware, and working on what at the time were supercomputers. “Where I really learned was on the job. I've always been able to jump in and learn new things.”  Skinner talks about his career evolution, how he gradually became aware of the myriad elements that make up the data center environment:  the servers, the racks, the power, the batteries, the cooling. He moved into middle management in Bloomberg's New York City data center and was tasked with transforming the siloed work culture. He asked workers to expand their remit and found that those that met the challenge excelled. “My passion is leadership at this point…really growing people and helping them succeed, growing the department.” Skinner talks about the importance of having ongoing conversations with technology vendors to stay ahead of the curve, ensuring that the right questions are being considered and the right issues addressed.   “You go out there and ask what's coming? What should we be learning? What should we be addressing? Never hire for what you need today, hire for what you need tomorrow.” He also highlights the importance of continuous training and how that has been incorporated as an ongoing process at his company where they have instituted weekly internal seminars to challenge their employees and help teams grow. Skinner also talks about his leadership involvement with AFCOM where he was instrumental in revitalizing the NYC/NJ metro chapter after superstorm Sandy flooded and disrupted much of lower Manhattan. As a strong believer in the power of collaboration and community, Skinner's focus for the organization stressed and continues to encourage education, networking, and the pooling of information. “Let's see how you're doing it. Are we doing it differently? Are you doing it better? Let's compare notes so this will help everyone!”   Bill Skinner has twenty years of experience in the Data Center and Technology Infrastructure environment and is currently Operations Services Manager for Bloomberg LP, managing a range of teams responsible for automating infrastructure services for the company's extensive engineering/developer community. During his 17-year tenure at Bloomberg, Skinner has managed data center facilities, developed new standards, processes, and technologies, and built and enabled highly successful IT teams.  Bill Skinner is a frequent speaker at industry events and is the President of the NY/NJ Chapter of AFCOM. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Plymouth State University.
