IN THIS EPISODE: Today we discuss the challenges of being human at work with two of my favorite humans – Amanda & Simon Cookson. The three of us have a passion for helping leaders and organizations build more human workplaces and shift away from the commoditization of employees that has created stifling, unproductive and dehumanizing work environments. We talk about the power that humans have to innovate and succeed in times of disruption. We also talk about future trends in the workplace and the necessity for trust, vulnerability, and honesty, and a flexible, more person-centric workforce. Amanda and Simon are partners in both their personal and professional lives. They're married with two children and they are also the cofounders of the UK-based consulting firm, Northern Value Creators. Some of you might recognize Amanda from the “Leaders in Conversation” web series that she and I cohost. I think Amanda and Simon are both brilliant and as we move through the conversation I'm sure you'll see why. ABOUT OUR GUESTS (in their own words): Amanda: “I've always been drawn to rebellious ideas and their potential to change the world. Following years in senior roles, building award winning teams I realised that my approach and ideas were often at odds with conventional management thinking. Treating people like resources, controlling them through bureaucracy didn't feel right. I knew there were better ways. After my organisation went through a merger, radically shifting the culture; I began to feel like an outsider. My approach was not welcome and I felt under attack. Leaving this bruising experience behind me, I began my exploration into coaching and human leadership. I was fascinated by how my experiences had impacted me, leading me to study the neuroscience of conversations and how our brains react in the workplace. This deep work allowed me to do what I love today – making business better by making them more human.” Simon: “It started back in the DotCom Boom when I was part of the team changing the way we do banking. For the past 20 years I've been involved in digital start ups, technical consultancies and big IT firms. All trying to bring about change with technology. Stopping to reflect I realised most projects had failed, or at least failed to deliver what they promised. I wanted to know why. This investigation led to the founding of Northern Value Creators 4 years ago and shapes everything we do and believe today. We can't afford to keep getting it wrong. There are no more excuses. We can get the people piece right.” SHOW NOTES: To connect with Simon on LinkedIn and Twitter. To connect with Amanda on LInkedIn and Twitter. This episode of the Healthy Family Project podcast is all all about how to shop for organic foods. We're joined by Sally Kuzemchak, our official registered dietitian and author of RealMomNutrition.com. Sally dispels the myths and breaks down everything you need to know about buying organic. You can't walk into a grocery store without seeing all sorts of labels making bold health claims including organic labels on fresh and packaged foods. There is a lot of confusion among shoppers around what the organic label means, does organic equal healthy, and what nutrition information should actually be taken into account when making food purchases. As Sally notes "organic cookies are still cookies" and shoppers should not be duped into thinking organic always means the food item is healthy. Sally breaks down the meaning of organic when it comes to food labels, what we should know about the dirty dozen list, and what food items to prioritize when it comes to deciding between conventional and organic. Are you wondering what it's like to watch porn with your partner? Vanessa and Xander Marin explain how to! I’m a fan of sex. So is my wife. But I wish we were more insync. I go to bed early. She goes to bed late. I work during the day when she’s ready to play. Sound familiar? When Tatyana and I are turned on at the exact same moment, it’s fireworks, and it’s also rare. Let me be honest, lately our sex life has been bonkers. It’s been passionate, fun and sexy as hell (this is after 14 years together). In the past decade, there have been many times when I felt “This is probably the best it’ll ever be.” How ignorant of me. To think I knew everything. To think we’d explored the depths of our marriage to it’s fullest extent, to think I had somehow mastered sex. WTF. Boy was I wrong. The last couple years I’ve been learning about things that prove the proves -- I know what I don’t know (I’ve heard about Tantra, but what the hell is it), but mostly, most stuff I don’t know what I don’t know (Wait...what did just say, this is the first time I’m hearing about this!) The latter happens so often, I’m both frustrated by it (because I feel ignorant) and inspired by it (because there’s so much I can do). So...in the spirit of constant and never ending improvement, let’s talk about sex. Let’s talk about it, because when sex is amazing, your marriage is better, and that is at the core of being a great dad to your kids. Happy dad, happy mom, happy kids. So without further ado, here’s a little preview to what’s covered in my chat with the sex expert Vanessa Marin and her husband Xander… Dealing with mismatched sex drives Who’s supposed to initiate? How can we bring adventure into the bedroom? The impact of porn (and how much could be good for you) And lots more… Enjoy the show! And if you dig it, please leave a rating/review -- it means the world to our team, and our guests. QUOTE "Every single couple has mismatched sex drives. There's not a single couple out there where both partners want sex at the same time or way." - Vanessa Marin "There is no such thing as being universally good at sex." - Vanessa Marin PEOPLE MENTIONED Vanessa Marin Xander Marin EPISODE RESOURCES VM Theraphy Insta , Facebook, Twitter ABOUT OUR GUESTS Vanessa is a licensed psychotherapist with bachelor’s degrees in human sexuality and sociology from Brown University, a master’s degree in counseling psychology, and two decades of experience working with thousands of couples.
