Happy New Year, friends! Our first episode of 2025 spotlights Courtney Brame, who is doing a ton of work around men's mental health and erasing STI stigma. He's the founder of SPFPP (Something Positive for Positive People), which supports people who are living with herpes. He also founded SELFED, which promotes emotional wellness for men and recently hosted a symposium for Black men's emotional wellness, which is how he and I came into contact. Our conversation sits at the intersection of race, sexuality and wellness. We discuss Courtney's journey to becoming an educator, we ponder whether safety might be an issue with regards to the lack of straight Black men in wellness spaces, we talk about yoga therapy and changing the face of what yoga is to make it accessible to others, and we talk about cancel culture and how that can kill curiosity. Hope you enjoy this conversation!

Soft Cock Appreciation Week 2024 asks, “Why is talking openly and honestly about changes in erectile function still so taboo among men?” This question has been at the forefront of Erica Leroye's quest to demystify the erectile epidemic and treat men's sexual health as openly as any other health matter. In this conversation Erica speaks with Courtney Brame, founder of both Something Positive for Positive People- a vital resource for STI stigma re-education, and Selfed a mental and emotional health nonprofit for Black men, as well as a yoga instructor and yoga therapist in training. Courtney shares ideas from his years of his personal and professional experience helping people learn how to accept their bodies as they are and feel more free in communicating openly and authentically with partners. Join them as they explore: How it often takes a crisis to begin the shift from societal expectations of “what it means to be a man” to the personal explorations that create one's own truth. Redirecting thoughts of “I am alone in this and no one will ever want me again” to accepting what is in a way that encourages self-care and discoveries of new possibilities. JKS 55 The Misdiagnosis Drama of 2022Buried in the backyard. recorded over 2 years ago, 2 weeks before our trip to PCAP Palm Springs. If you hate cringy, raw, emotional podcasts, definitely skip this one.I don't cry in this one but there is a lot of processing. We didn't feel good about releasing earlier because we felt it too cringy for most listeners but,we were reminded of the importance of why we do what we do.Part 1We decided to get a second STI test done after not being able to get answers after a Dr appointment and were waiting to discuss results the following week. Then Dr wasn't able to see us IRL until a whole week after our phone diagnosis.Part 2Monday after the dr office test, we were told the diagnosis before our second test results by STDcheck.com came in and took steps to confirm diagnosis. Part 3While waiting to see the DR IRL friday, and after calling all our LS friends, the results from STDCheck came in NEGATIVE! When we saw the DR. she said the test she ran was misinterpreted & the sores she had were probably caused by something else but she didn't know what for sure.It turns out you had foliculitis and Myrsa most likely from a waxing appointmnt. We learned a lot from that experience. What new drama awaits as we prepare for another Swingcation? This week, I sit down with Yogi, Podcast Host and Founder of Something Positive for Positive People, Courtney Brame. As a wellness coach, Courtney focuses a great deal with mens mental health as well as addressing the stigma of those who suffer from Herpes. We talk about understanding how men think of conflict to "fix it", when they also need to address the language of an issue. Also, how you can be supportive of your partner when he shares his feelings and what you can do when you feel that therapy would serve you both. In this fascinating conversation, Courtney brakes down STI and herpes stigma, and how stigma around herpes cause more harm for people than anything else about it. Courtney unpacks why sexual health is mental health, and how the shame and fear that can come alongside living with herpes and other STIs can manifest in depression and isolation. Courtney also discusses with Jayda communication around sex and intimacy, how to actually bring up conversations around sexual health, and how having foundational conversations about things like STI testing and whatever else, can actually lead to greater intimacy and better sex. Courtney also talks about how he works with men around emotional wellness, and the complexities of encouraging Black men to be vulnerable, and the duality of how opening up can be something beneficial, but when it's the opposite how they've been socialised that can bring up challenges. Lastly, somehow Courtney and Jayda got onto the topic of anime! They both geek out together but actually have a fascinating discussion about how Courtney feels anime is an amazing example of men inspiring emotional openness and navigating emotional hurdles. Quicky #25 comes from Season 2 Episode 11: #27 Sex with Herpes: Diagnosis to Disclosure (with Courtney Brame) Today, I chat with Courtney Brame, the Founder and podcast host of Something Positive for Positive People. As a podcast, this serves as a hub of interviews with people living with genital herpes along with his own experiences navigating stigma from diagnosis to disclosure. As a nonprofit, SPFPP raises money to pay for people who are struggling with HSV stigma to receive therapy. After his own diagnosis in 2012, Courtney navigated the world identifying heavily with his diagnosis unconsciously as you'll hear more about in this episode. After finding community, all of his problems with dating and disclosure appeared to disappear. However, this made space for underlying concerns herpes had exposed. 1 was how many people despite having community and a space for finding love regardless of their HSV status wanting to end their lives. 2 was how true to himself he was able to be with these complete strangers who had one thing in common (knowing about his HSV status) versus how hidden he was with people who'd known him most of his life who did not know about his herpes status. We talk about living with herpes, from contracting the virus and receiving a diagnosis, to managing it, how it affects your masculinity and ultimately discussing it with and disclosing it to a partner. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/cam-fraser/message

Trigger Warning: This episode mentions suicide and suicidal ideation Courtney Brame, the founder of Something Positive for Positive People (SPFPP), sits down with guest-host Dr. Ina Park to discuss the ongoing need to foster spaces that destigmatize STI diagnoses. In the ninth year of his herpes (HSV-2) diagnosis, Courtney speaks on navigating life with the virus and what drove him to connect with people struggling with mental health issues as a result of their herpes status. What started as informally providing solidarity to those living with herpes, quickly became a podcast and platform for sharing the experiences of those battling societal stigma and self-shaming, creating pathways to disclosing their status and tools that can make waiting for a vaccine more manageable. Courtney says that “sexual health is mental health.” He hopes to expand the mental health resources available to those living with herpes and use the collective stories of the SPFPP community to inform health care practices, especially the delivery of an HSV diagnosis. Courtney engages those living with a positive diagnosis and their allies to transform the stigma that often works to silence them. Download the transcript of this episode. After discovering that many people diagnosed with herpes struggled with suicide ideation, Brame decided to interview those living with herpes and share their stories with other folks navigating herpes stigma. Something Positive for Positive People also works to give health care professionals tools they can use to provide anti-stigmatizing, identity validating, sex-positive health care. Courtney also hosts a podcast, called Something Positive for Positive People, where you can hear these stories and experiences directly.
The Iron Man Suit served Tony Stark very well to get him out of the unfortunate circumstance he was in. It definitely saved his life, but more importantly, outside looking in, it changed his life. When you take a much deeper look though, I am willing to argue that the suit didn't do anything at all. The creation of it came from Tony himself because he was present to his circumstances and out of recognition of his own needs, the Iron Man suit and persona was born. I've been struggling with integrating Honmychest into who I am as Courtney Brame, and all this time the answer was right here. I don't need to integrate something that came from within me. I need to remember that this creation served a purpose as a result of a situation I was present for, and recognized I had to become something more than what I believed myself capable of being in that moment. That moment has gone on for 5 years. 5 years of me challenging my beliefs of what I was capable of through the the experiences I had as honmychest only to realize none of those were possible without Courtney. Honmychest did for me what the Iron Man Suit did for Tony Stark. It was a pathway to Self. I ain't gathering infinity stones or anything like that, but I can confidently say that my Selfed path through the Honmychest suit has served its purpose as I explore one less external to cultivate my self image.

Herpes, Mental Health, Suicide, Stigma Welcome back to Asking for Myself, where I ask all the questions you're too afraid to. Today we're talking all things herpes and mental health. In this episode, I am joined by Courtney Brame, the the Founder and Podcast Host of Something Positive for Positive People. This conversation is as much about herpes as it is about mental health and compassion. That being said, we do discuss suicide. If that is something you are sensitive to our triggered by, please proceed with caution. Why does your work focus so much on mental health? How have you navigated advocacy alongside self-compassion and care? How do you talk about suicide while balancing your own mental health? Why does the herpes stigma exist? Why is it considered so much “worse” than other STIs? Why do doctors not always recommend testing for herpes? What is the protocol and expectation for sharing a positive status? What is the responsibility on each of us to get tested? What could a more empowering experience look like for receiving a positive herpes diagnosis? Is it healthy or worth it to find “closure” on who you contracted herpes from? How can we support someone who has received a positive herpes diagnosis? How has COVID impacted STI testing, if at all? Today I'm excited to welcome Courtney Brame to the podcast. Courtney is the founder of Something Positive for Positive People, a non-profit organization and podcast series on a mission to dissolve stigma, improve mental health, and promote minimization around sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Courtneys own journey began after getting a herpes diagnosis himself. After feeling left in the dark with healthcare resources, he began talking to others online, and soon realized the ways in which STI diagnoses had effects on mental health. On the episode today we cover how we can better have sexual health conversations, and in turn, how we can have deeper, more connected and authentic sexual experiences. Courtney also shares how we can become better allies around stigma in general, and cultivate a better mindset around sexual, mental health, and the reality of STIs. As a quick disclaimer, we do touch on the subject of suicide in this episode. If you are sensitive or triggered around this subject please skip through (14:00 - 19:30). We also have resources below if you are or know someone who is struggling. As you'll hear in this episode, Courtney's work is dedicated to destigmatizing the connections within the worlds of sexual and mental health. You are not alone. STDs are on the rise again in the US. So it's no surprise to see prevention campaigns everywhere. But, what happens when prevention efforts fail and someone tests positive? As a society, we do a poor job with sexual health and STI education. In this episode, I'm interviewing Courtney Brame, founder and podcast host of Something Positive for Positive People (SPFPP.org), a 501c3 nonprofit organization advocating for the integration of post-STI diagnosis support resources and STD prevention efforts while connecting people struggling with STI stigma to mental health resources. The podcast features interviews with people living primarily with herpes about their experiences from diagnosis to disclosure. We discuss stigma, discrimination, what to do post-diagnosis, communication about your diagnosis, and much more in our open chat about STIs.
What happens when people get a positive diagnosis for Herpes? Our guest, Courtney Brame, is the founder of the nonprofit organization (and podcast of the same name) Something Positive for Positive People, which focuses on creating community & mental health support for people dealing with HSV+ diagnoses. Theo, Courtney, and Sarah talk about what we know about STI stigma, how it affects our relationships with our selves and our partners, and ways that the medical community (and our own communities) can better support everyone affected by a Herpes diagnosis. This week we tackle something that most of the human population can relate to... herpes. Like many STI's there is a lot of stigma around herpes and many of us don't actually understand what it entails until we find out we have it. We are joined this week by Courtney Brame, the founder of Something Positive for Positive People, a revolutionary resource to educate and create a community for connection and support. You just found out you have herpes... now what? Your friend just told you they have herpes... now what? This episode explains it all! Today I am joined with Courtney Brame Founder & Podcast Host @honmychest. JKS 43 Poly-Morph with Dylan ThomasThis episode marks our most extravagant show and took almost 4 years, about $400 in production fees and an entire year of editing to create....Please try not to fall asleep listening to it!I sat down on a lazy, rainy Sunday back in the beginning of 2020 & had a man-to-man chat with Dylan Thomas of Life on the Swingset Podcast Fame.Dylan graciously answered my questions about when people & relationships morph from swinging to a more polyamorous identity. As you may know, I lean toward the Poly end of the spectrum but have questions & doubts about how I would navigate it and how that would work in my life.Sit back, relax and enjoy a Letterkenny (on HULU) themed flashback and Dylan's ASMR contribution to our show. You can find Dylan on most Socials as Dylan the Thomas or search Life on the Swingset. You can reach Mr.Sting at @JKSwingingPod on Twitter, email at JustKeepSwingingPod@gmail.com or leave a voicemail at 707-68SWING.If you like our show and the perspective we provide, PLEASE give us a positive review on iTunes. If you don't like us, say nothing and just move along .LOLThank You for listening, and "Just Keep Swinging"!Curious about the Swinger Dating site DOUBLE DATE NATION? EPISODE 198: Dating with Herpes: Disclosure, Stigma & Healing (00:05): You're listening to the Sex with Dr. Jess podcast. Sex and relationship advice you can use tonight. Brandon (0:18): Welcome to the Sex with Dr. Jess podcast, I'm your co host Brandon Ware here with my always lovely other half, Dr Jess. Dr. Jess (0:26): Feeling somewhat lovely this morning. I feel like we're getting into our 2021 groove. And you know if we go back to the Dionne Roberts podcast on rest, I've been getting more rest and sleep than I ever have in my life. I think I'm growing. I think I'm an inch taller. Brandon (0:41): I'm gonna attribute it in all seriousness to shutting my phone off earlier, making that commitment. And I've been trying to stick to it in 2021. I mean we're only a short time into that, but having that alarm set on my phone or whatever the setting is, to shut off my phone, is really I think helping me sleep. Dr. Jess (01:01): So we're getting more sleep, but my sleeps are a little bit tormented. I feel like my body is still adjusting to this whole eight hours plus sleep, like I think my body was more used to five and now it's like after five hours, even though we're going to bed earlier, I'm waking up. But I think it's getting us into a groove. I don't know it feels good in the body. Brandon (01:21): I agree. It feels good. Almost embarrassed to admit how early we have gone to bed some nights Dr. Jess (01:25): Don't tell the people. Brandon (01:27): We used to have dinner later. Dr. Jess (01:29): We used to go to remember, we used to make fun of the people who went to the club before eleven when we were young? Brandon (01:35): You're going to the club at at ten thirty, eleven? What's wrong with you? Dr. Jess (01:40): Now, we're fast asleep, fourth cycle of REM. I don't know how that works, so don't quote me on that. Today, we are going to be chatting with an old friend of the podcast who is really doing incredible work in this field via his nonprofit organization, "Something Positive for Positive People". And so he helps to provide therapy and support to folks who are diagnosed with herpes, and other STIs. And through his podcast, he shares his own story of diagnosis and the stories of other people who are diagnosed. And if you tune in or follow Courtney, his name's Courtney Brame,

JKS 41 To Tell & Kiss A couple of discussions on STI education, disclosure & oral herpes.I have to be honest, this was a tough one to release in that, true to the off the cuff, diary nature of our show, there are details and wording I wish we had included or done better.I did my best to address some of these in the intro and addendum. On the fun side...we compare our podcast to bratwurst & took some poles...oops, polls, and even a bit about a wishful STI prevention method thanks to Gilligan's Island.First we discuss whether people should do more research about STIs when they get into the LS. I realize now that we use a lot of jargon that newer people may not understand. We also talk about how we wind up discussing our experience with complete strangers. In the second half, we share a kiss at a party that opens up a new challenge and exposes feelings of hypocrisy. If you have questions about STIs/STDs and discussing them, please scroll down in the show notes for links. Today, I chat with Courtney Brame, the Founder and podcast host of Something Positive for Positive People. Key Points: - Courtney's experience receiving a diagnosis of HSV - Grappling with a diagnosis - Outbreaks and managing the virus - Masculinity and sexual confidence - Changing beliefs and combating stigma - Something Positive for Positive People podcast - Communication, intimacy and sexuality - STI/STD testing - Sexual health and ethnicity Relevant Links: Courtney's Instagram: @Honmychest Courtney's Tumblr: @HOnMyChest Courtney's Reddit: @HOnMyChest Courtney's Facebook Page: Something Positive for Positive People
Podcasting has brought so much to my life, both as someone who loves hearing others’ stories and as someone who wants to learn from the experiences of others. Hearing an array of experiences is what makes This is Not What I Ordered so powerful to me, and to listeners, as well. Today’s episode touches a bit on how podcasting is a form of therapy — both for the hosts, the guests, and the listeners. It also combines conversations about podcasting, chronic illness, and life in quarantine with two past guests: Monica Michelle and Courtney Brame. This conversation is full of fun banter and deep, powerful conversations. What I appreciate most about this conversation is that Monica and Courtney don’t shy away from sharing their own experiences during the pandemic, as well as prior to the pandemic. It’s so important to see how we all experience life through the lenses of our chronic conditions, as well as through our human lenses. I hope you find this conversation as refreshing and insightful as I did.

The harm caused by herpes simplex viruses (HSV) 1 & 2 often arises not from the pathology of the viruses themselves but rather from the stigma and shame associated with a positive diagnosis. In this episode, we attempt to lay a clear foundation for understanding not only how these viruses work but also what occurred to change the perception of them from “innocuous infection” to “dreaded disease”. Starting us off with his firsthand account is the incredible Courtney Brame, founder and host of Something Positive for Positive People, a non-profit organization and podcast that aims to provide community support, healing resources, and educational discussions around positive HSV and other STI diagnoses as well as larger issues in sexuality and physical and mental health. We then dive into the meat of the episode, tackling such questions as “how do these viruses hide out in your body?”, “what kind of treatment is available?”, “where did these viruses even come from?” and “why is there such a huge amount of stigma and what can we do about it?”. To help us address this last question is our other fantastic guest, Dr. Ina Park, Associate Professor, University of California San Francisco School of Medicine and Medical Consultant, Division of STD Prevention, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We chat with Dr. Park about her new book, Strange Bedfellows, when to have “the talk” with your kids, and how we as individuals can break down some of the shame surrounding a positive STI diagnosis. 61 year old Theresa, retired nurse/Salisbury, NC resident was diagnosed with HSV-1 and 2 after discovering her husband of 32 years' infidelity with men. That, on top of her diagnosis was the catalyst that led her to leaving that marriage where according to him, she 'had gotten what she deserved'. Theresa immediately recognized the mental hold the stigma behind herpes would have on her if she didn't do something about it quickly. She decided to be open about her status and put energy into doing things she enjoyed. She began dating within and outside the community, refusing to limit her options. In doing that, she met her now husband of 7 years. He was a muggle (someone without the condition of their potential suitor borrowed from the world of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter). Theresa's main takeaways are to not let the stigma define you, go be happy, when you get tested or get a partner tested, be sure to be assertive in your request and ask for a full panel which includes herpes testing so that you know your status. You're not a virus, you HAVE a virus! Your person is out there and you shouldn't limit out half your options by dating only individuals who share your condition. BAM there's the title. No Limits! Theresa's story is one that confirms our experiences in the moment equip us for what is to come to us so that we're prepared for it. Whether good or bad, how we perceive the experience really affects how we live life. We shouldn't put limitations on our happiness. We cut off entire worlds of possibilities in doing that. Be vulnerable. It's ok. There's strength there. I can be found on Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr @HonMyChest. I'm also Courtney Brame on Facebook. Twitter Instagram Check out Courtney's podcast, Something Positive for Positive People here. Jess was also interviewed about the herpes stigma recently and we've included the notes from the interview below. 1. Why is there a stigma around herpes? Sex is stigmatized and so all potentially negative outcomes of sex are intensely stigmatized. The unnecessary suffering that sometimes accompanies herpes is ultimately because of the stigma — not the virus itself. Herpes seems to hold a special stigma that is not proportionate to its health risk. In terms of health, most people with herpes have nothing to worry about. Outbreaks are often rare, decrease with time and can be relived and surpassed with antiviral medication. You do want to take precaution when having sex (herpes can increase the risk of HIV transmission and be a risk when pregnant), but overall, it need not have a significant impact on your (sex) life since we all should be practicing safer sex. Part of the stigma is reinforced by herpes jokes that don't seem to apply to other STIs. 2. What steps can one take to alleviate the shame and depression that often accompany a diagnosis? Know that you're perfectly normal — and healthy! People contract bacterial and viral infections all the time (the common cold, flu, etc.) and they don't hang their head in shame. It's absurd that we see sexually transmitted infections as remarkably different from the ones that occur from not washing your hands properly after riding the subway. I have a client who takes pride in smashing stereotypes and tells dates about her herpes when they first meet. She shares stats to normalize the conversation (1 in 5 Americans have it) and is armed with accurate information about its transmission (medication can reduce breakouts and transmission). When you share the fact that you have an STI, know that their reaction is really a reflection of their own knowledge and comfort (or lack thereof) and not a reflection of their feelings toward you. If they are judgmental, fearful or express hurtful rejection, it's likely a matter of their own discomfort (with sex generally - we stigmatize STIs that are easier to treat than the common cold) or lack of knowledge. I know it shouldn't be your job to educate people, but it can help the conversation to unfold more smoothly if you provide accurate info about transmission, management and treatment. Many of the clients I work with say that the majority of their experiences have been positive - they've been met with positive responses from new lovers who appreciate and learn from their honesty. 3. If you don't have herpes, what are some things you can do to help disempower the stigma? What are some things you'd suggest saying to a friend who's been diagnosed? Stop making herpes jokes. We're all guilty of this. If you look back at homophobic jokes in movies from 10-20 years ago, it seems shameful. Hopefully we can convince filmmakers to cut out the herpes jokes as well so that we'll look back and see how ridiculous, harmful and unfunny they really were. If a friend shares their diagnosis… Don't ask prying questions (how did you get it? do you have an outbreak now? who gave it to you?) Do research on your own. If you have questions, turn to reliable online resources (https://www.cdc.gov/std/herpes/default.htm, http://www.ashasexualhealth.org/stdsstis/herpes/) and don't expect your friend to educate you or answer all of your questions. Ask them what you can do to help. Do they want you to look for resources? Do they have questions you can help with Don't tell other people. It's up to them to share their health status with others at their discretion.

Courtney Brame is a personal trainer living in St. Louis, Missouri. After being diagnosed with herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) six years ago, he experienced a personal and spiritual growth journey that led him to create and host his own monthly podcast called "Something Positive for Positive People." In each episode, he interviews STD-positive people from around the world who share their experiences living with these conditions. His goal is to reduce the stigma living with an STD so that people can feel less alone and live more conscious lives. Courtney believes that happiness is achieved when you become more concerned about what happens through you, rather than to you. I recently had the pleasure of being a guest on a podcast called Something Positive for Positive People hosted by Courtney Brame. His podcast offers a safe space for people living with or affected by sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like herpes and HIV to share their experiences as a way to shake the shame and stigma that exists around these diagnoses. He originally invited me on his podcast to talk sex ed and SPF but little did he know, I too am a person living with HSV2 (herpes simplex virus type 2), and I’m not at all ashamed. So on this episode, I chat with Courtney about his journey toward the great work he is doing shaking stigma around STIs. Our chat touches on why accurate and open talks at home about sexual health are so important, some tips for managing herpes diagnoses, and he shares a really innovative connection he made between the horror film IT and social stigma around herpes. Today we have an extra special episode for you: not only do we have a guest but we have a male guest joining us! Courtney Brame of the Something Positive for Positive People podcast is here.Courtney works as a personal trainer and lives in St. Louis, Missouri - the STD capital of the US. We talk about why it’s the capital, his story with herpes and how that led to the creation of his podcast. You’ll hear all of that and much more on the 83rd edition of Life With Herpes! More About Life With Herpes About six years ago Courtney was diagnosed with genital herpes simplex virus type 2. He had recently graduated from college and had a good job. He woke up one day with symptoms of the flu: he had a fever, aches, chills, etc. He went to use the bathroom and noticed the top of his penis didn't look right. He describes it vividly saying it looked like someone took a dropper full of acid and just dripped it on his penis! Naturally, he was very worried so he got his mom to take him to urgent care. The doctor gave him antibiotics for chlamydia, gonorrhea and gave him a prescription for herpes. The doctor also gave Courtney a pamphlet explaining the virus, and then sent Courtney on his way. With a new diagnosis and very little information, Courtney went home and went straight to Google to find out how to manage it, and treat it. Once he had sorted through the information and had a better handle on the situation, he contacted his previous partners. But to this day he has never found out who gave it to him. On this episode of Life With Herpes, we talk about the positive impact it had on his life. It helped him change his approach to relationships and to learn what it really means to have a healthy diet and lifestyle. He's taken all of that knowledge and applied it to his life, which has helped him have only a few outbreaks over the last six years. We also talk about how we've both learned you can't look at someone and know if they have an STD or not. Society at large promotes these stigmas, and the only way to break through them is to continue to educate people whenever possible. Society also programs us and our perceptions of sex, as well as getting and having STDs. We wrap up with a chat about his podcast, Something Positive for Positive People. It started out as a way for him to prove a point. He had met someone who also had herpes and she thought it was the end of the world. They became friends and one day she told him she had contemplated suicide because of her status. He then started to hear more people talk about having that same response - in various secret groups and support groups people shared they had also thought of suicide after being told they had herpes. Because of that he decided to put together audio of people with herpes telling newly-diagnosed people it's okay to have the virus, it isn't the end of the world. The audio got some traction online and he invested in the podcast platform so he could continue to reach a wider audience. The podcast has become an educational tool and continues to evolve. Today it also includes conversations with people who have HSV 1 and HSV 2 as well as HIV and HPV. You can hear Courtney share why reaching people in all of these communities - and beyond - is so important to combating stigma. Hear his story and more on episode 83 of Life With Herpes. Today on the show, Áine is joined by the founder, executive director, and podcast host of Something Positive for Positive People, Courtney Brame! After seeing people struggle with suicide ideation following a herpes diagnosis, Courtney set out to alleviate their suffering by offering the stories of those navigating a diagnosis in their own way, creating a roadmap through stigma. What began as suicide prevention for people with herpes has become an overall platform to support people's communication around sexual health in a way that challenges stigma. Today, they chat about breaking down the stigma around STIs, where our public sex education is failing us and our kids, and how our self-identity as a whole ties into stigma. In this episode of Sexualchemy:How Courtney's own diagnosis led him to create resources for those with herpesWhy destigmatization is important for suicide preventionWhy American sex education is failing usHope and encouragement for those facing any STI diagnosisFollow Áine:Instagram: @sexualchemySexualchemy Twitter: @sexualchemyTwitter: @goddess122217 Linktree: Áine's LinktreeFollow Courtney:Instagram: @honmychest Twitter: @honmychest MŌN: @honmychestReddi: @honmychestYou can support SPFPP by donating to the non profit at www.spfpp.org!
