This episode is a conversation about peace, reconciliation and innovative storytelling featuring pioneering producer Jeff Gomez and Billy Price who is Creative Director of Unrival, the non profit organisation dedicated to empowering peacebuilders and the process of peacebuilding across the world. During Future of Film Africa 2024, Jeff and Billy discuss their unique collaboration and how they are applying a new modality of storytelling that champions reconciliation and understanding. In particular, we learn about process of peacebuilding and the concept of 'Just Peace' - and how Jeff's work in developing 'Collective Journey' narratives intersects with and supports this activity.. In a discussion that also encompasses the craft of transmedia and worldbuilding, we hear how producers and creators can apply and benefit from these strategies in their own work and also learn how Jeff is using them in projects such as ULTRAMAN RISING to great critical and commercial success. This episode was recorded as part of Future of Film Africa 2024 in partnership with Sèmè City of the Republic of Benin. More About Jeff Gomez and Billy Price Jeff Gomez is President and CEO of Starlight Runner Entertainment, a leading producer of highly successful fictional "Worlds," which maximize the value of intellectual properties by preparing them for licensing, merchandising and extension across multiple media platforms. Starlight Runner then utilizes a variety of technologies as well as a proprietary cross-media rollout technique designed to produce these "Worlds," directly extending them onto the Internet and mobile phone platforms, as well as into animated and live-action feature films, branded and sponsored digital content, video games, books and graphic novels, toys and merchandise. These in concert are also uniquely designed by Starlight Runner to validate and celebrate audience participation. The company's clients include The Walt Disney Company, Comcast, Mattel, Hasbro, and Scholastic. Jeff is also known for developing the rich interactive worlds of Hot Wheels for Mattel, Magic: The Gathering for Hasbro, The Black Belt Club for Scholastic, Turok Dinosaur Hunter for Acclaim Entertainment, and Team GoRizer for The Walt Disney Company. Jeff co-wrote and produced Hot Wheels World Race, a computer-animated feature and series for Cartoon Network. He is currently developing a slate of original "World" properties with Starlight Runner and various partners to be produced in the coming year. Billy Price is a multidisciplinary creative whose longing for a more just and peaceful world led him beyond the typical bounds of a professional creative when he began advocacy and relief work for refugees and asylum seekers. His efforts were instrumental in the formation of an innovative aid program in Juarez, MX— providing food, sustainable energy, and education to vulnerable migrant families. Other professional endeavors have involved collaborations with Grammy-winning bands, non-profits, startups, and healthcare companies, as well as his personal projects as a screenwriter, actor, and director (credited in film as William Price, III). Friendship has provided a fertile ground for creative endeavors throughout Billy's career. Many of his proudest professional accomplishments, from building an iPhone app to producing and directing film work, have been collaborative efforts with cherished friends he would just as readily spend a celebratory Sunday afternoon with. Billy's commitment to creativity in the context of bondedness bears itself out in his approach to the Film Lab, a collaboration with Justice Film Festival where participants celebrate the power of transformative, nonviolent storytelling together. His vision for the film lab is to cultivate a community of filmmakers dedicated to justice and peace and innervate an uprising of films from diverse and mutually empowering voices.

Around 20 years ago, J.J. Abrams and Jennifer Garner came together to produce one of the most popular shows on TV for a number of years. What's the next logical step? Make a game based on it, of course. We're going back to 2004 to a stealth action game that based on a hit ABC TV programme. We're talking Alias. On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we take a look at the topsy-turvy history of Acclaim Entertainment. We also discuss a trailer that had quite a few live-action shots of the TV show in it, as well as a featurette that includes a celebrity being genuinely excited about the video game they're in.In our review, you'll hear some chat on crab walking and competency, mission-specific spy gadgets, semi-involved hacking puzzles, enhanced vision, some Hitman-like wardrobe changes (and the outrageous outfits), split screen moments, punching and kicking that has a bit to it but is ultimately very clunky, weapon degradation that is astoundingly represented via in-game visuals, Broom or Fist, museums and embassies, a story that takes place between episodes 19 and 20 or season 2, a drop of Milo Rambaldi's blood, some lost charm, and the truly awful Marshall Flinkman. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Alias is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS

As we pick up our conversation with Gregory Fischbach, Acclaim's long standing contract to port Williams/Midway arcade games is coming to an end and a shift to originally developed content begins. The purchase of Valiant Comics, the launch of franchises such as Turok and NFL Quarterback Club will redefine the company as it nears its end and Greg goes off to new ventures. Gregory Fischbach has had a career most of us could only dream of. Starting out as a civil rights lawyer in the 1960s, he then represented some of the biggest musical acts of the 70s, before reinventing himself in the video game industry and running Activision's European operations. All of this culminated in the formation of Acclaim and the building of one of the most powerful publishers of the 8 and 16 bit eras. In part 1 of our interview, Greg talks about those early years, what drove him, and how business was done when games were young. NOTE: This interview was recorded over many sessions. Any meandering is purely due to the fact that we kept getting lost on tangents and coming back to topics sometimes weeks later. Yeah, we were having way too much fun. :) Send comments on twitter @videogamenewsr2 Or Instagram https://www.instagram.com/vgnrtm Or videogamenewsroomtimemachine@gmail.com And if you like what we are doing here at the podcast, don't forget to like us on your podcasting app of choice, YouTube, and/or support us on patreon! https://www.patreon.com/VGNRTM Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._Edgar_Hoover https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_Corps https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Lloyd_Prosser https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crosby,_Stills,_Nash_%26_Young https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Miller_(musician) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boz_Scaggs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merle_Haggard https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activision https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostbusters https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Branson https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_2600 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_64 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZX_Spectrum https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amstrad_CPC https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortal_Kombat_(1992_video_game) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8V7TwlYCt0 https://accelerate.games/ https://www.mobygames.com/game/toy-soldiers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6ZOWWs6rNE https://www.mobygames.com/game/turok-dinosaur-hunter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RCA https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bertelsmann https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acclaim_Entertainment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minoru_Arakawa https://www.mobygames.com/company/acclaim-entertainment-inc https://www.mobygames.com/game/mortal-kombat https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entertainment_Software_Rating_Board https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WMS_Industries https://www.mobygames.com/game/nba-jam https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Power_Team_(TV_series) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165600/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6RH33lDxrY https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LJN https://www.mobygames.com/game/simpsons-bart-vs-the-space-mutants https://macysthanksgiving.fandom.com/wiki/Bart_Simpson https://www.handheldmuseum.com/Acclaim/index.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Nintendo_Entertainment_System https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Genesis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortal_Kombat_(1992_video_game) https://www.mobygames.com/game/dave-mirra-freestyle-bmx https://www.mobygames.com/game-group/nfl-quarterback-series https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_64 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Probst https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Line_Cinema https://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/gtfo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroProse https://www.patreon.com/posts/36710924 https://store.steampowered.com/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameStop https://www.mobygames.com/game-group/mary-kate-and-ashley-licensees https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payola

Ever wonder what happened to some of the old third-party publishers of yesteryear? This week we look into a heavy hitter as we pour one out for Acclaim Entertainment! Find out how running a company based around arcade ports and licensing The Simpsons, Batman, Cool Spot, and many more can only last for so long. Especially when combined with a bunch of questionable business practices and a whole lot of crazy PR stunts.
The third episode of Founders Counsel explores the relevance of age when founding a company. It has been posited by some that one is over the hill in Silicon Valley at 35. From our experience representing founders, we know that this certainly is not the case. We explored this topic with three active founders at different stages of their lives to hear their stories, perspectives and advice. What we discovered was a fascinating conversation more about what motivates founders to create companies than about age. In addition, we found that all three of our guests on this episode are socially motivated in trying to make a positive impact, which has taken them on different paths. Our guests include a founder who has started several companies and has also taken a company public, a founder who is just now launching a company she first thought of ten years ago and a young founder still in his 20s who also has the perspective of being a VC. Hear their tips on balancing their time between their day job and side project, what made them conclude that “now is the time” to move forward, on developing external mentor relationships and essential qualities for success at any age. Episode guests:Ruma Bose – Founder, Former president at Chobani Ventures and Chobani Foundation. Ruma’s newest venture, coming soon, is a media tech play to empower young girls. Her prior experience includes executive roles with numerous early stage companies in the consumer industry, including President and co-CEO of Sprayology, an innovative wellness company selling vitamin and homeopathic oral sprays. Prior to that she was President at Vincent Longo Cosmetics and she also successfully co-founded and grew Finish Line Floors, a national floor care company. Her investment experience includes being a partner at Zuci Capital and a senior director at Roseworth Capital. Ruma is an active philanthropist and has raised awareness and significant capital for non-profit organizations. She authored the book, “Mother Theresa, CEO.”Gregory Fischbach – Founder and managing partner, Accelerate Games. He is former chairman of the board at Rabbit a venture-backed technology company he founded, founder & former CEO of Acclaim Entertainment which he took public, former president at RCA Records International, and former president at Activision International. Before getting into video games, Greg was a leading entertainment lawyer in Los Angeles. David Pickerell – Founder and early stage investor at Yes VC who is also currently launching Para: a suite of tools to empower gig economy workers. Prior to Yes VC, David was business operations lead at Nauto and was an early employee at Uber where he helped launch Uber in Las Vegas.
In August of 1996, TSR employees rushed from the exhibit hall at Gen Con to the federal courthouse in downtown Milwaukee to sue Wizards of the Coast and Acclaim Entertainment, filing the lawsuit before the convention was even over. Why? About what? And what is its significance today? Ben Riggs has your answers! Vote for us in this poll on ENworld! In January, an episode of Appendix N University will cover Three Hearts and Three Lions by Poul Anderson if you want to read it for the episode. Ben’s book on RPG adventure design, Encounter Theory, is on DriveThruRPG. Click here to pick up this essential volume! Like Plot Points? Support it on Patreon at the $2 level, and you’ll get a sneak peek into Ben’s book about the sale of TSR to Wizards of the Coast! This chapter concerns TSR West, an effort by TSR to open an LA office devoted to producing comic books, an effort that failed rather impressively. It is the product of a dozen interviews with professionals from comics, gaming, and Hollywood, and as far as I can reckon, it is a tale entirely untold until now. Image courtesy Wizards of the Coast.
Greetings, comics enthusiasts! This week, the original "Odd Couple"* Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) check out the first two issues of another mismatched pair of knuckleheads, Christopher Priest and M.D. Bright's Quantum and Woody from 1997! After the creator bios, they go through every pages of issues #1 and #2, chuckling all the way. There's also a history of how Acclaim Entertainment acquired Valiant Comics and created the line that would host this series, all the way to the company's eventual bankruptcy. Then, a list of some of Acclaim's not-so-acclaimed video games and poorly-planned marketing schemes! All that, plus some listener mail, it's more fun than a dungeon full of minibosses! *Except for that other Odd Couple, the play by Neil Simon that was actually the original weirdcomicshistory@gmail.com facebook.com/cosmictmillhistory cosmictmillhistory.tumblr.com @cosmictmill weirdsciencedccomics.com chrisisoninfiniteearths.com weirdcomicshistory.blogspot.com
PlayDead77 & Brave Dave continue their discussion on the Valiant Comics universe. In part 2 they discuss Valiant Comics entry into multimedia platforms such as TV, Film, and Animation. Valiant Comics began as an imprint of Voyager Communications, established in 1989 in part by former Marvel editor-in-chief Jim Shooter. It was discontinued in 1994 after being bought out by Acclaim Entertainment. After Acclaim closed its doors in 2004, the publisher was revived as Valiant Entertainment and has been publishing new material since May 2012.
TCW Podcast Episode 012 - History of Acclaim - "The Rise" We go over the rise of Acclaim Entertainment from its inception by two former employees of Activision.
