If you're a fan of video games and The Matrix franchise, you won't want to miss Jr's latest episode of WV Uncommonplace. In this segment, Jr gets nostalgic as he talks about two classic video games - Enter the Matrix and The Matrix Path of Neo - which were developed by Shiny Entertainment, founded by none other than Dave Perry of Earthworm Jim fame. Jr shares his disappointment that these games are not backward compatible with newer consoles, and he laments the fact that there has been no tie-in video game for the new Matrix movie. But Jr doesn't stop there. He believes that Warner Brothers and Atari could benefit greatly by re-licensing these games and getting the original voice actors involved. And he isn't afraid to call them out on it. Jr expresses his desire for companies to revive these games, citing the commercial success of actor Keanu Reeves and the potential market for updated versions of these games. The segment ends with Jr speculating why some licensed products turned out decently while others were downright terrible. It's clear that Jr is passionate about video games, and his enthusiasm for this particular topic is contagious. If you're a fan of The Matrix, you won't want to miss WV Uncommonplace's latest episode. Jr's perspective on the topic is refreshing and informative, and his enthusiasm is sure to have you searching for an original Xbox and an HDMI converter so you can enjoy Enter the Matrix and The Matrix Path of Neo all over again.

David Perry is a firm believer that the ability to relate in conversation on a whole host of different topics will create opportunities for meaningful connections that can help you grow your business. Join us for this episode of Push to be More as he shares his thoughts on leadership, how he deals with challenges and the importance of learning something about everything and everything about something! Here's some of the great stuff that we cover in this show:David moved to England in the early 1990s. He got involved with the game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which was a huge success and led to Playmates Toys funding his own video game company, Shiny Entertainment. From there, he went on to have an incredibly successful career in video games, e-commerce businesses, and more - all thanks to taking advantage of opportunities as they arose.David discusses the idea of levelling up. In a video game, every little thing you do progresses you towards the next level. This keeps people playing. In life too, sometimes people get stuck and don't move forward If they don't know what the next stage is, or can't see themselves getting closer to a goal.According to David, titles are not important in a company. He talks about how to use the idea of levelling up in leadership by finding 10Xers (talented people who just work it out) and hiring those who think outside the box.David talks about the importance of continuous growth and learning new things, even if they don't seem immediately relevant. He recounts a story of how he got free servers for his startup by cold-calling companies from Wikipedia and how such attitude gets things done.Learning something about everything and everything about something is a philosophy David consciously adopted which has led him to some amazing opportunities in his life.-----------------------ABOUT DAVEDavid Perry is an innovative leader in the gaming industry whose technology has shaped how we see gaming today and in the future. His work with Gaikai led to Sony PlayStation acquiring his company to establish itself in streaming video games from the cloud - PlayStation Now.David now finds himself as the CEO of Carro, a partnership e-commerce network designed for Shopify brands. By almost all accounts, the sequel improves upon the formula in almost every way. But does that mean that this gem by Shiny Entertainment and Playmates Interactive still holds up in the modern day? Before we unearth the truth, we catch up on the other games we've been playing such as LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Elden Ring, and... Katamari Damacy!? David Perry began developing video games out of his bedroom at 15. Over the next thirty years, he was a leading game designer and worked with companies like Disney, McDonalds, and Atari creating games like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Aladdin and the Matrix video game. In that time he built and sold two companies: Shiny Entertainment to Atari, and Gaikai to Sony (300M+).His expertise lead to a main stage TED talk (1M+ views),  an honorary doctorate in Engineering from Queens University, and guest speaking at Stanford, MIT, and many others. After selling Gaikai, David "retired" and picked up photography as a hobby. He noticed while doing self portraits for influencers that the monetization scheme for influencers was broken. Earthworm Jim hit the Sega Genesis with an almighty impact when it smashed into release in 1994.  Inspired by the success of Sonic The Hedgehog, Shiny Entertainment wanted to bring their own anthropomorphic mascot into the forefront - a humble earthworm.  Struck by a falling alien super suit, Jim somehow grows and occupies it rather than being crushed to dust.  Now he has to go on an adventure to beat the bad guys, kill the evil queen with the big but, and rescue Princess Whats-Her-Name.The game dazzles with naturalistic illustrations that you platform off.  It revels in its offbeat tone, with each level wackier than the last.  Novelty is worn with pride on both of its sleeves, and it refuses to dwell on any concept for longer than needed.  But does all of this add up to a fun and engaging experience for its 3 hour run time?  Or does it just feel like a disconnected mess?On this episode, we discuss:Can the lack of a coherent theme or identity be a theme in and of itself?  Is zaniness and weirdness worth celebrating or is it just inconsistent nonsense? How good are the essential platforming mechanics of Earthworm Jim?  Is having strong fundamentals more important than the many new ideas that are thrown your way?How hard is Earthworm Jim?  Does a high level of difficulty mesh well with a constant string of new mechanics?  Should you use save states? We answer these questions and many more on the 40th episode of the Retro Spectives Podcast! Is Earthworm Jim the greatest platformer ever?  Is it overrated garbage?  Is a coherent identity irrelevant in the face of groovy style?  Let us know what you think on our text based community discord server!
