What happens after you knock off your main antagonist and have to scramble to come up with an all-new villain? Find out as we revisit this 2016 episode that digs into the first few characters of 1981's FRIDAY THE 13th PART 2!! That means we're bringing along two old favorites: "Final Girl" Alice and our very own “posture pal” Crazy Ralph. First, Gena & Patrick explore what makes Alice's post-Camp Crystal Lake massacre apartment the height of 70s shabby-chic, discuss Jason's needlessly elaborate revenge plan, and consider how Jason can crisscross county lines with a bag on his head AND his mom's head in a bag!! Come join me by the fireplace. In this episode, we return to Camp Crystal Lake, right in the middle of winter, to revisit Friday the 13th and unravel why this date still gives us chills. We start with a nostalgic slasher classic: summer camp counselors, bad decisions, and a mother's revenge. We'll dig into why this simple film still works—and why campfire stories are so popular. From there, we step off the screen and into the fear itself. Why does Friday the 13th feel cursed? Is it myth, history, coincidence, or something darker? We explore the origins of the superstition, from Norse mythology and biblical symbolism to the Knights Templar and the psychology behind paraskevidekatriaphobia. We examine real-world crimes associated with the date, including the haunting murder of Kitty Genovese and the ripple effects that helped create 911. We even look at disasters, defiance of superstition, and the people who dared to mock bad luck itself. We close out with a Final Fright rooted in summer camp folklore. Ghosts in the woods, phantom cabins, porcelain dolls (absolutely not), and the real-life tragedy that may have inspired one of horror's most iconic stories. Is Friday the 13th truly cursed…or do we just keep giving it reasons to be?
Thank Jason it's... Tuesday?! On this week's revisit, we dig into more characters from FRIDAY THE 13th as we bid adieu to our beloved camp cook (Annie) and Crystal Lake's first-class clown (Ned), and we answer a series of important questions like: When you're new in town, should you ask a dog for directions? Is it okay to be jealous of a crazy person's biking posture? Are you properly prepared to exit a moving vehicle today? Plus, another seminal game of Choose Your Own Deathventure and a conspiracy that will rock the foundation of the Friday franchise forever! ✅ PODCAST SUMMARY — Season 7, Episode 21Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)In this killer episode, Dangerous Dave returns to Camp Crystal Lake and dives head-first into the movie that gave Jason Voorhees his first true rampage. It's sack-head Jason, pitchforks, camp counselors and pure early-80s slasher energy. We kick off with What Happened Way Back When, rewinding to 1981 with five surprising facts about the films, songs and TV shows that shaped the year the sequel dropped. Expect big hair, questionable fashion and box office chaos. In The Dangerous Deep Dive, Dave explores:The rushed production and studio panic behind the sequelHow Jason became the new killer after the OG twist endingThe cast and iconic Final Girl Ginny FieldA detailed breakdown of the plot and best killsFan and critic reactions from the time (“Cheap horror!” they cried… while audiences queued round the block)The sequel's influence on every masked slasher that followedNext, it's time for the Retro Rumble, where this sequel is judged against another horror contender to see who walks away with the blood-soaked crown. We roll into Back in the Ads, revisiting TV commercials from 1981 — when everything was either breakfast cereal, perfume, or bizarrely intense car adverts. Then, Dangerously Underrated highlights something from the era Dave believes deserves WAY more love — because not everything from the 80s has to involve a hockey mask. Our One Season Wonder spotlights a forgotten gem that vanished from TV after a single season — complete with five facts that will make you wonder how it didn't survive. Finally, we close the show with Better Than / Worse Than, comparing Friday the 13th Part 2 to other horror classics — and deciding exactly where mid-sack-era Jason ranks in slasher history.Next week… things get even more retro, as Dave jumps into a TV nostalgia favourite:> Episode 22 — Saved By The BellGrab your camping gear, avoid the woods and remember:> Jason hates pre-marital fun.

FRIDAY THE 13TH pt. 6: Jason Lives - Diving into the FUN!#jason #fridaythe13th #horrormovies The gang's back at Camp Crystal Lake (or should we say Forest Green?) for one of the most fun entries in the Friday the 13th franchise! In this episode, we're digging up Jason, diving into the 80s cheese, the killer soundtrack, the meta humor before Scream made it cool, and why Part VI might just be the ultimate comfort horror movie.
The So Many Sequels crew continues “So Many Scares” month by blasting off into one of horror's strangest sequels — Jason X (2002), where the infamous Camp Crystal Lake killer takes his talents to outer space.David breaks down the film's disastrous box office run and how it became one of the Friday the 13th franchise's biggest flops. Garrett confesses that this was his first Jason movie and defends its “so bad it's good” charm, while Josh struggles to believe how a hockey mask outlawed in 2024 could lead to one of cinema's dumbest future timelines. From liquid nitrogen kills to horny space teens and “Uber Jason”, the gang debates whether this tenth installment is horror camp gold or intergalactic garbage. Plus, how it compares to Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell, and the upcoming reboot.
Who you gonna call?! In this Halloween focused episode, the Richley boys question a Floridian's decision, have fun with a little "Will it Freebird?" and play D&D with ChatGPT (as Captain Hook escaping Camp Crystal Lake). Feast your ears!

Welcome back to Not A Bomb! This is the podcast where we explore some of cinema's biggest box office failures and decide whether they deserve a second chance. We are celebrating five years of discussing cinematic flops.Strap in, horror hounds and sci-fi fanatics, because this week on Not A Bomb, Troy and Brad are trading Camp Crystal Lake for the cold vacuum of space. That's right—our Spooktacular series takes a zero-gravity detour into the year 2455 with the tenth installment of the Friday the 13th franchise: Jason X. And if you thought Jason couldn't get any deadlier, wait until you see him with a chrome makeover and nanotech upgrades.Troy and Brad dive deep into the film's gloriously campy premise, dissecting everything from the questionable science to the surprisingly inventive death scenes. Yes, we're talking about that liquid nitrogen face smash. And let's not forget the holodeck sequence that lovingly parodies Jason's roots—because nothing says nostalgia like sleeping bag fatalities. So whether you're a die-hard Friday the 13th fan or just here for the popcorn and space carnage, this episode of Not A Bomb is your ticket to the final frontier of slasher absurdity. Tune in, laugh along, and remember in space, no one can hear you scream... unless Jason's upgraded machete is involved.Jason X is directed by James Isaac and stars Kane Hodder, Lexa Doig, Lisa Ryder, Chuck Campbell, Melyssa Ade and Peter Mensah. To celebrate the last 25 years of film, the Not A Bomb podcast is compiling a Top 25 list from the Not A Bomb community.
Camp Crystal Lake has long stood abandoned, its bloody history etched into the memories of all who grew up hearing the stories: the boy who drowned, the grieving mother who lost her mind, and the masked killer who rose from the depths to exact vengeance on anyone foolish enough to trespass. When seven teenagers venture into the ruins of the infamous camp at the start of summer vacation, they expect to find nothing more than decaying cabins and ghost stories to take home. Instead, they awaken something far darker. As night falls, the shadows come alive with the presence of Jason Voorhees himself, his unrelenting rage spilling once again across the grounds of the cursed lake. But Jason is not the only predator stalking these woods. Far older eyes watch the carnage unfold—eyes belonging to the Sasquatch, ancient guardians who have roamed these forests since long before human footsteps disturbed the earth. They have witnessed decades of blood at Crystal Lake with quiet detachment, but tonight, their silence will break. When the Sasquatch intervene to save two boys from Jason's rampage, it is not mercy that drives them but necessity. They know what the teenagers do not: every disappearance invites search parties, helicopters, thermal scans, and tracking dogs. Too much human attention threatens their existence, and so balance must be restored by any means necessary. What follows is a collision of legends—a battle of monsters bound by ancient instincts, hidden laws, and territories marked in blood. For the terrified survivors, the forest becomes a maze of horrors where every shadow holds a choice: fall to Jason's blade, stumble into the wrath of the Sasquatch, or discover the grim truth of why these creatures hide from mankind. The story does not end with the night. One year later, the survivors are pulled back into a conflict that stretches beyond their worst nightmares, forced into uneasy alliance with the very monsters they once fled. Together, they must confront something far older, far darker, and far more dangerous than either Jason or the Sasquatch.Prepare yourself for a descent into the deep woods, where myths bleed into reality, where monsters protect by destroying, and where the real horror isn't what hunts you—it's what decides to let you live. Best experienced in complete darkness with headphones… though you may want to keep a light close. Some stories have a way of following you home.

A carefree lakeside vacation is interrupted by the re-emergence of killer Jason Voorhees (Ted White). After he escapes from a morgue, leaving bodies in his wake, Jason travels to Camp Crystal Lake where a group of friends is staying. In this episode, Aran and Tom return to the blood-soaked woods of Camp Crystal Lake to revisit one of the most talked-about horror reboots of the 2000s — Friday the 13th (2009).We explore the long and winding road that led to Jason Voorhees' return to the big screen, including the many false starts, abandoned concepts, and bold script ideas that shaped the final film. With Platinum Dunes behind the wheel, this reboot became one of the rare horror franchise revivals that actually got a lot right — giving longtime fans some gory fan service while introducing a new generation to the hockey-masked icon.We dig into behind-the-scenes details, including production challenges, the casting choices, and why this Jason was leaner, meaner, and faster than ever. Plus, we uncover the hidden easter eggs and nods to previous entries in the franchise that hardcore fans will appreciate. We also discuss the sequels that were planned but never came to be, and how this reboot stands in the legacy of horror reimaginings. Does Friday the 13th (2009) still hold up? Was it the start of a new era or a missed opportunity?Join us as we reflect on its impact and how fans — including us — view it today. Last weekend, without any pre-planning, two of our NJITW stalwarts did some very Jersey things: Mike D and his family went to Camp NoBeBosCo, better known to horror fans as Camp Crystal Lake. Geth and his family wound up on an impromptu trip to the legendary Wild West City, and the experience was head spinning. We discuss both in this episode, along with shout outs to the Great Divide campground and the legendary Cliff's Dairy. Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast.
