Director of Burning Man Project's Philosophical Center, longtime co-conspirator of founder Larry Harvey, Cacophonist, playa newspaper publisher, billboard liberator, art theme writer, and suspicious character (according to paranoid people), his most realistic alias is Stuart Mangrum. He holds our legacy, and helps guide our story, while occasionally philosophizing. A Communications Strategist named kBot gets Stuart talking despite his anti-interrogation training. This is a story of pranks and participation, of 90s Burning Man and modern day miracles. Norman Greenbaum is an American singer-songwriter. He is primarily known for writing and performing his 1969 song "Spirit in the Sky". The song, with its combination of 'heavy' guitar, hand-clapping, and spiritual lyrics, was released by Reprise Records in 1969. It sold two million copies in 1969 and 1970 and received a gold disc from the RIAA. It has subsequently been used in many films, advertisements, and television shows.Although "Spirit in the Sky" has a clear Christian theme, Greenbaum was and remains an observant Jew. Greenbaum says he was inspired to write the song after watching country singers singing a song on television. In an interview Greenbaum stated that Western movies were the real inspiration for "Spirit in the Sky":Though Greenbaum is generally regarded as a one-hit-wonder, several of his records placed prominently in the charts, including "Canned Ham" in 1970, which reached number 46 on the Billboard pop chart. In 1966, as the leader and composer of Dr West's Medicine Show and Junk Band, he recorded the novelty hit "The Eggplant That Ate Chicago". See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Bee Work Bonus! Experience an apiary through your ears! Last week in Episode 44, we met Amanda Welch of Grubby Girl. Bee farmer and charmer. This week, we're donning our suits and heading out into the field to check on the hives. Because beekeeping is not a weekend hobby. Bees live precarious and fragile lives these days. It takes a lot of work to keep the immune systems of bees thriving and the hives healthy. So if you've ever wondered what an apiary sounds like, join us! Follow along on our journey by using the photographs below. Or if you're listening in your car or on the treadmill, just enjoy the sounds of bees, birds, doggies and the occasional Spring breeze. Trust me, it's good for whatever ails you. I walked away from this experience feeling like I'd just taken a 2-hour meditation class. Favorite parts? I learned what a bee "traffic jam" sounds like. Whether bees are calm or agitated, you can really hear the difference. Did you know each queen has a name? Beatrix was my personal favorite. After taking Amanda's class in March, having this 360-degree experience was a field trip for the mind and soul. Interested in learning more? Contact Amanda to find out more about the bee classes she teaches at the Jefferson School in Charlottesville, Virginia. Then go buy some honey or bath products to round out your apiary experience. Grubby Girl products are sold at the Saturday City Market, the Thursday UVA market, and on her website. This is meant as a companion piece to Episode 44, which I'm posting as an experimental, experiential "bonus". Because I've got big dreams about expanding Edacious. Finding a dedicated podcast space. Getting better equipment. Maybe even renovating a food truck or "Canned Ham" to take to festivals for live events. Would you pay $.99 for an episode like this? Buzz at me in the comments. Cheers!
Cabaret performer Tom Judson joins host Robin Milling to talk about his one-night only gig at 54 Below in New York City called Nature Boy: Songs Of The Earth & Sky. Tom will do what he does best, sing songs with the theme of nature accompanied by himself on piano, weaving stories of his colorful life in between. And what a journey Tom has had as he tells Robin stories of growing up on his grandparent's farm in upstate, New York; living this bucolic, protestant lifestyle to many years later shocking everyone with the news that he had made a series of films for grown-ups! Tom says the experience was quite fun actually and was flattered to be asked at the age of 44. You can't say Tom hasn't experienced everything life has to offer and that is prevalent in his multi-talented repertoire. Tom sings Simon & Garfunkel's For Emily: Whenever I May Find Her.
