643 - BONUS March 2025 Household Economy

Organize 365 Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 28, 2025 59:43

Your home is like “home base” in tag, it's the safe spot. In 2024, we spent resources on Joey and Abby's homes. In 2025, I want to do some renovations on the second floor of our home, where Greg and I spend a lot of time. I wanted to share how I plan to attack those renovations but first I felt it appropriate to offer this bonus economic episode to give insight to all this Tariffs talk and the swift changing of the government right now. I based my choices off of the large picture and this is how you can too as the household manager! Hire It Out vs. DIY There is a direct relationship between the money you have to invest and the amount of time a project will take. Either you hire a contractor to complete the task with a timeline shorter than you could've done. Or you do it yourself but it will take longer usually.  And then there's a hybrid option somewhere in there. I have decided on the projects I want to complete upstairs, however if I hire it all out like I did with the kids' projects I'll be broke soon!  Next episode I'll tell you all about it.  YOUR House When considering your household budget and anything you want to do you need to look at what is going on in your household budget. Just because the economy is bad doesn't mean your household is. The example I share here was the Organize 365® budget (remember our homes are small businesses) in regards to shipping costs, de minimis value, and taxes. I also shared how physical nexus and economic nexus affects Organize 365® sales and taxes so you could get an understanding of the complexity of what seems like a simple purchase or subscription from our community. You GOTTA hear the episode. And I say that to encourage learning. Always be moving forward.  Everyone may not be happy about this adjustment but when I looked at the entire shipping process and considering what the customer has to pay, in addition to their receiving end, it does not make sense to continue shipping internationally. If I don't make this adjustment and Organize 365® does under, then there's no money anyway. Better to adjust and make unpopular decisions. You may be looking ahead and realize that in order to celebrate your child's graduation like you may have for a previous child you need to cancel the annual summer vacation. As the household manager, in order to keep the budget afloat, this decision may make the most responsible financial sense. This is where you need to cut costs first, at the household level.  Economic Outlook Are we in a recession or not? I talked about my opinion of the stock market.  It may be an indicator of the emotional climate but not the economy. Right now, everyone can feel how volatile the economy feels. The President is making changes more quickly than people are used to. There is a lot going on with Tariffs and we are toeing the line with financial war. This is not in our control. My best advice, with all the economical uncertainty, is to attend planning day so you can plan out and allocate money for the next 120 days AND look over the next 3 years.  What Do You Need? As a household manager, looking at the current economy, I would not embark on the PhD. I know for my household budget and looking into the future over the next three years, now would not be a financially responsible time to tie up funds for that. However, I offered multiple ideas for how to continue personal development. If you can't attend a conference this year like you normally do, try a different mode of learning. I know I want to do some renovating this year as my time is becoming available. If there is a financially hefty project you want to do, you may need to contribute some blood sweat and tears this time, in addition to or instead of hiring someone to complete the task. Can you invest more time and still get what you want? EPISODE RESOURCES: Home Planning Day  The Sunday Basket® Sign Up for the Organize 365® Newsletter  Did you enjoy this episode? At 25, she became the founder and CEO of ColorComm Corporation. Prior to that, Lauren worked as a communications strategist at a prestigious crisis communications firm in Washington, D.C. Lauren has been featured in The Washington Post, Forbes, and People, as well as on MSNBC and CNBC, and more. She has been recognized by PR Week's 50 Most Powerful in PR, Ad Age's Women to Watch, and New York Women in Communications. She is the author of What Do You Need?: How Women of Color Can Take Ownership of Their Careers to Accelerate Their Path to Success*. Many of us wish to be good allies in the workplace, especially to those who are underrepresented. Yet, what we assume that means isn't always what's most wanted or needed. In this conversation, Lauren and I discuss what leaders and peers can do to be better allies. Key Points Instead of asking “How can I help?” consider, “What do you need?” That's more likely to generate specific actions. Women of color feel like they are putting in tons of work into relationships with the majority culture, but it often feels unreciprocated. White folks think of allyship as speaking out against discrimination. Women of color say it's way more critical to advocate for new opportunities. Tie allyship to economic goals: conference attendance, nominations for recognition, inclusion on high-profile committees, and position/promotion considerations. Make invitations to people of color to be at the table. This contributes more substantially than proclamations of support. When you make a mistake, apologize, own it, and move on. Don't tell a story to explain yourself. Episode 73 - What Do You Need to Let Go Of Embracing Change and Letting Go for Introverted CoachesIn this episode of the Visible Coaches Podcast, we, with a combined 30 years of business experience, explore the unique challenges introverted coaches face, especially relating to self-marketing and selling services in an extrovert-dominant world. We emphasize the importance of playing to introverts' strengths, identifying opportunities, clarifying messages, and nurturing markets without compromising energy or well-being. The discussion delves into the necessity of letting go of outdated behaviors, work types, client types, and pricing models to achieve growth. Through our personal and client stories, we illustrate the process of recognizing and shedding limiting beliefs and practices. We talk about the metaphor of repotting a plant to suggest that growth involves removing what no longer serves us, to allow for new, expansive opportunities. 00:00 Welcome to the Visible Coaches Podcast00:57 Letting Go: The Key to Growth for Introverted Coaches02:11 The Power of Repotting: Embracing Change and New Identities04:38 Navigating the Challenges of Letting Go in Business and Personal Growth06:40 The Journey of Transformation: From Overdelivering to Embracing New Possibilities11:46 The Importance of Specialization in Starting and Scaling Your Business14:25 Conclusion and Reflection: What Do You Need to Let Go Of?Join us on Monday for the next Message & Momentum Weekly session: https://thevisibleclub.com/messageandmomentumAngela and Anke unpack crucial but often overlooked topics to help you get found and noticed by your ideal clients, AND we open up the floor for hot seat coaching and Q&A, so you get YOUR questions answered. To find out more about us and The Visible Coaches Podcast, visit thevisiblecoachespodcast.com where you'll also hear about free events we offer to help introverted coaches make their mark in an extrovert's world. If you love planning and taking notes to stay organized and make progress, get your copy of our Become More Visible Journal. To get clarity on YOUR next step towards more visibility and business success, book a call with Angela.************

We had the pleasure of interviewing Candlebox over Zoom video!Celebrating 30 years of success, Candlebox is capping off their long and influential career with The Long Goodbye. The new 10-track collection, produced by Don Miggs, finds the group taking stock of evolving maturity, fleeting time, and lasting love, all while kicking a lot of ass. Lead single “Punks” is a cautionary message to young bands that they won't be the hot new thing forever. Charging forward with a slashing guitar riff and rapid-fire drums, Kevin howls about quick-burning success and vacuous trends. The Long Goodbye also includes the sneering statement of independence “What Do You Need,” co-written by Nick Brown of the alt-rock band Mona, who also appears on the track, and the moody, atmospheric “Elegante,” where Kevin dives headlong into creative wordplay as Miggs and the band mimic a synth-pop vibe with guitars and drums. Elsewhere is the acoustic “Maze” and “Cellphone Jesus,” where Kevin allows some of his worldview to seep in as he searches for a sign from above for a damaged society. The Long Goodbye is ultimately a statement record, a document of a band that somehow survived an era that tragically proved too seductive for some of their peers to remain not only successful, but relevant. And after Candlebox wraps it all up at the end of the year, the hits will still live on, along with a legacy that serves to inspire the young punks who come after them.About Candlebox:Emerging from Seattle's burgeoning mid-90s grunge scene, Candlebox quickly found mainstream success with their deep, lyrically-driven melodies and big radio hooks, as evidenced by their massive hits “Far Behind,” “You” and “Cover Me” that propelled their self-titled debut album, a defining record of the decade, to sell more than 4 million copies worldwide. Their follow-up album, Lucy, earned a platinum certification and solidified Candlebox as a tour de force in the thriving alt-rock scene. While the commercial success of the first album played a pivotal role in the band's trajectory to the top, it was their raw and unapologetically honest live performances that ultimately solidified their place among Seattle's elite. In 1998, Candlebox released Happy Pills, which would be their last album before going on hiatus from 2000 to 2006. In 2008, the band reformed and released their fourth album, Into The Sun, and hit the road for the first time in 10 years, touring extensively and releasing Alive In Seattle, a live album that included tracks from every era of their career. 2016 marked the triumphant return of Candlebox with the release of Disappearing In Airports, a more classic rock-tinged album hailed by many critics and fans as their best work in years. Singles “Vexatious” and “Supernova” drove the album to debut at #9 on the Billboard Charts and spurred multiple U.S. and international tours including major festival appearances at Carolina Rebellion, Welcome To Rockville, and Lollapalooza Chile. While these iconic rockers have been blazing full-steam since, releasing their album, Wolves, in 2021, and recently issuing a live, acoustic album, Live at The Neptune, Kevin and Candlebox are calling it quits in 2023, but they're not going quietly. We want to hear from you! Today's show is a special one. It's a peek inside our My Harp Mastery membership. You'll be hearing part of a recording of one of our Monday calls. On this call, our topic was three skills that are vital for your harp playing success, in particular memorizing, practicing for flow and continuity, and sharing music with friends. These skills may not sound very exciting, but I really want to share this call with you because I talk about ways to look at your harp playing that may be very different from the way you usually think about your practice and playing. It was an eyeopener for some of our My Harp Mastery members, and I hope it will inspire you as well. Because this is a recording of a call, you'll hear me reference some materials that our members have access to but which I can't share with you here on the podcast. The Business of Meetings – Episode 175 - What Do You Need to Be Employable? with Ira Wolfe In an era defined by rapid technological advancements and shifting employment landscapes, the future of work remains a topic of paramount importance.  Today, we have the privilege of engaging in a conversation with Ira Wolfe, a renowned expert in the field. We delve into his remarkable career trajectory and explore the challenges and rewards of changing professions later in life. We also uncover Ira's invaluable insights on pursuing passion and navigating the uncharted waters of growth, mindset, and adaptability.  Join us as we embark on this enlightening journey, destined to illuminate the path to success in the ever-evolving world of work! Bio: Ira S Wolfe, the "Millennial trapped in a Baby Boomer body," is one of the top 5 global thought leaders on the future of work and HR. He is the president and Chief Googlization Officer of Poised for the Future Company, senior consultant with Dame Leadership, and host of the top-rated Geeks Geezers Googlization podcast. Ira is a TEDx Speaker and 2022 inductee into the HRSouthwest Conference Speaker Hall of Fame. He is co-author of Create Great Culture in a Remote World, and author of Recruiting in the Age of Googlization, consistently nominated to best recruiting and HR book lists. He is a frequent contributor to Forbes and Medium and has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, INC Magazine, Fast Company, and dozens more. Ira's story Ira's remarkable journey was driven initially by his childhood desire to become a dentist. Despite having no familial background in dentistry, he persevered and traversed the educational milestones from high school to dental school, eventually establishing his own successful practice during economically turbulent times. However, he could not shake his aversion to the fundamental tasks of drilling and filling. Realizing his true passion lay elsewhere, he left his dental career to seek more fulfilling work. Although career transitions and soul-searching have become commonplace today, Ira undertook this journey more than three decades ago when such shifts were far less prevalent. Embracing his calling to assist others in finding meaningful work and reassessing their priorities, he embarked on a mission to help people discover genuine fulfillment in their professional lives. From Dentistry to Business in Practice In his dental practice, Ira focused on marketing, content creation, customer service, staff management, and hiring the right people. However, he wanted to help professionals in technical fields like dentists, physicians, accountants, attorneys, and engineers with the business side of their practices. So he started a business called Business in Practice to offer advice and guidance. Despite his success, he soon realized that many clients only wanted him to solve their problems without changing their behavior. Unable to accommodate their demands, Ira fired them all, rebranded his company as Successful Performance Solutions, and discovered his passion for employee assessments and diagnostic processes.  Personality Tests  Ira was always passionate about leadership, frequently participating in personality tests and management courses. Those experiences eventually led him to a sales training office where he encountered the DISC assessment tool, which he had previously used to understand his dental partners' different personality styles. Understanding the four P's: problems, people, pace, and procedures, Ira realized that personality assessments worked as a common language for teams with diverse approaches. With a team of 16 individuals, including two providers, he embraced the variety of personalities within the team, recognizing that each individual's unique perspective added value to the overall functioning of the group. Becoming a Thought Leader Ira found his passion in diagnosing and solving problems. (Which he enjoyed in dentistry as well.) He integrated various personality assessments into his business and became a thought leader in the future of work. Eventually, he sold the business and shifted his focus to speaking about the future of work and advising business owners on team-building and the changing workforce. A diminishing labor market  Ira created a video discussing the declining birth rate in the United States and its implications on the workforce. Comparing it to countries like China, Russia, and European nations with low birth rates, he emphasizes that the US also faces socio-economic challenges due to a shortage of young people to support an aging population. His video presents statistical data showing that from the 1950s to the 1980s, there was a significant influx of new workers into the US workforce, driven by economic growth and increased female participation. However, with the emergence of Generation X in the late 1980s and 1990s, although their numbers were smaller, it did not cause much impact due to the continued presence of the large baby boomer generation. The introduction of the millennial generation further increased the population entering the workforce. However, since 2010, the birth rate has declined, and immigration policies have significantly reduced the number of new workers. The current trend indicates that by 2025, only 200,000 natural-born workers will enter the workforce annually, compared to the previous average of 2 million. Additionally, the aging baby boomer generation further diminishes the labor market. The Future of Work While the United States may have a larger population of young people than other developed countries, it still falls short of the workforce needed to sustain its economy. Ira suggests that automation could provide some assistance but dismisses the fear that AI and technology will completely replace jobs. He contends that individuals who refuse to learn new skills and adapt are the most likely to be displaced.  A High Demand for Blue-collar Skills and Trades Ira emphasizes the high demand for blue-collar skills and trades because the jobs they do are not easily replaceable by automation or robots. He acknowledges the importance of education but argues that not everyone needs a four-year college degree. The Challenges Retiring Baby Boomers Face when Returning to the Workforce  While some boomers may need to return to work for financial reasons, many lack the necessary skills and physical stamina for jobs that require technological expertise. Better leadership, management, and productivity are needed to address those challenges. There is also a shift in the mindset of younger generations, who prioritize work-life balance and are unwilling to sacrifice their personal lives for work. That, coupled with a shrinking working population, further complicates the labor market. The lack of caregivers is another issue in the broader context of workforce concerns. A Polarized World Ira acknowledges the highly polarized nature of the current world and highlights the consensus among economists and business leaders that a different immigration policy is needed. While countries like Europe and Asia face low birth rates and aging populations, Africa has a large population of capable individuals willing to take on various job opportunities. However, it is still essential to provide fair wages and avoid exploitation.  Overcoming the Fear of Change Despite the challenges and fears associated with technological advancements and societal changes, Ira remains hopeful about the future. He believes that technology and progress will lead to breakthroughs in healthcare and allow people to enjoy life rather than carrying the burden of medical expenses. He emphasizes the importance of having a growth mindset, being open to learning new skills, and overcoming the fear of change.  Adapting to an Evolving World Adaptability is a crucial skill for the future, in addition to resilience, cognitive agility, and the ability to unlearn outdated practices. Despite being an older baby boomer, Ira encourages individuals of all ages to embrace a better future and remain productive by continuously adapting to the evolving world. TonioTimeDaily

“What Do You Need in Order to Have Ethical Sex? You need to know and be comfortable with your own body. This helps you to determine what you're comfortable consenting to and gives you an understanding of what you might like from your partner. You need to be comfortable with your own sexuality and be able to experience sexual pleasure without guilt or shame. If you're ashamed of being sexual, you might not plan ahead for sex or might be less respectful of your partner's feelings and sexuality. This works against having both protected and respectful sex. You need to speak up about your sexuality. If you aren't able to be assertive about what you'd like to do and what you wouldn't like to do, it's harder to have truly consensual sex. You need to have respect for others' values. Your partner may not share the same values or beliefs about sex as you do and may be more or less comfortable with different ways of expressing sexuality. To have respectful sex, you need to respect those values. You need to understand your own needs and your partner's needs. Understanding your own needs helps you express them to your partner, which enables respect. Understanding your partner's needs allows you to respect those needs in turn. You need to understand what you're looking for in a sexual experience. Are you having sex because you care about the other person, because you want sexual pleasure, because you want the other person to care about you, or for other reasons? Part of respectful sex is respecting yourself by acknowledging what you want and honestly evaluating whether sex is the best method to obtain it. Depending on your goal, you might also need to think about whether acting on that goal through sex is respectful to your partner. You need to be able to communicate with a sexual partner in sexual terms. If you aren't comfortable talking to your partner about protection and other aspects of sexuality, it's harder for the sex to be well protected and to be respectful. You need to be able to express your sexuality without exploiting or being violent towards others. If you aren't able to listen to your partner and respect what they're comfortable with, then you can't have consensual or respectful sex. You need to be able to protect yourself and your partner from sexually transmitted infections (STIs). If you don't have knowledge about STIs and ways to protect yourself from STIs (such as condoms or dental dams), you can't have protected sex.” I was taught warped affection, warped love, warped longing, warped desires, warped passion, warped infatuation, warped fondness, warped liking, warped adoration, warped attraction, warped caring, warped tenderness, warped compassion, warped sentimentality, warped lust, warped sexual lust, and warped sexual desires. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support

Our Training Unleashed podcast host Evan Hackel sat down with Crista Grasso, the creator of the Lean Out Method, a simple way to grow a business to scale in the right way, by minimizing waste and maximizing efficiencies, and a known authority on helping global businesses simplify and scale. The two discussed the importance of growing your business to the right scale.   What Do You Need to Focus on As You Scale? Crista says there are four factors to consider: Strategy, Planning, Systems and Team. One common problem is that when things are not working well, many companies assume they need to add more people. Yet the real problem could be something else: they don't have the right systems in place. And if they pause and simplify, many companies find they can stretch their people a bit further and align them with roles that will get more from the business. Where to Focus as You Scale If you can focus on your most important goals as a company – where you really want to be and what you really want to achieve – that will help you pinpoint activities where you can reduce your energy and your resources. Unless you have clarity of vision, everything will seem like an amazing opportunity and you can invest your people, time and effort in the wrong areas. So the first step is to clarify your vision, so you engage in activities that are directionally correct.   On a Bigger Vision of Training Training plays a critically important role in helping a company grow to scale provided the company asks not only “what are we doing?” but, “why are we doing it?”   Crista's One Biggest Tip for Members of the Training Unleashed Community “Have that clarity of vision,” Crista says. “If you know what is directionally correct for your organization, it will help you make the right decisions and help you grow to scale.” Learn more about your ad choices. In FIREPROOF: Your Grand Strategy for Transforming Failure into Fuel for Your Future, Mr Hollenbach takes the idea behind Yale University's Grand Strategy Program designed for political leaders and heads of large corporations and applies those principles to the individual. His book answers the question: How can I create a Grand Strategy for my life? He then leads the reader through steps to develop their unique Grand Strategy to create a life that helps others and leaves a stellar legacy. No matter the disaster's severity, your intrinsic value is not attached to an occupation or your outward identity. Your value is in who you are. Take what you have learned and set your path toward where you want to go by implementing the steps in Fireproof. In a readable style sprinkled with personal stories and captivating case studies, the author delivers material that is both inspirational and actionable. At the end of each chapter are action steps to help the reader answer the questions: • What Is Your Desired End State? • What Do You Stand For? • Why Are You Doing This? • What's In Your Way? • What Do You Need? • Where Do You Begin? • What's Your Timeline? • What Happens When Everything Falls Apart? While most people ask, “What should I do to reach my goal?” the Grand Strategy process begins with a much better question: “Who do I need to be?” Your core essence determines what kind of leader you are. When you know what's inside you—flaws and all—you can use tools to release your limitations and let go of self-defeating behaviours. You can, in real and practical ways, define yourself. Personal development topics create a thread throughout the entire work: self-leadership, self-awareness, communication, healthy relationships and self-care, as well as uncovering your core values and finding your big WHY. The author provides an analysis tool for challenging situations to help the reader discern which parts they can control, what they can influence and which things they can neither control nor influence. He also provides tools for releasing stress and working through feelings of overwhelm. He lists critical daily habits and mindset matters that are essential for success. Andrew Petty is Dying
Suffering, Surrender, and the Leap of Faith: How to Find Freedom on the Other Side of Letting Go, with Carrie Chown

What do you need to let go of? In her teens, alcohol became Carrie Chown's refuge from emotional pain. By her early college years, she was firmly in the grips of alcoholism. Carrie worked hard to keep everything looking shiny on the outside, but inside she wanted to die. Then, she was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension as a college junior and was told she had two years to live. Ironically, it felt like an answer to her prayer to die.  In June of 1999, Carrie summoned the will and the courage to get sober so she could begin an IV treatment the following month. Remarkably, she survived six years with pulmonary hypertension and received a life-extending double lung transplant in December 2003. After the transplant, Carrie was told that she might only have two more years to live.  With a handful of years of sobriety and intensive recovery work now under her belt, Carrie emerged from the transplant physically, spiritually, and mentally aligned. She was ready to live. She moved out of her parents' house, started working, got married, and bought her first home.  But she lost sight of all of the gifts in her life during an excruciating seven-year infertility journey.  There's more to this story, and Carrie fills in the gaps in the conversation that follows. But what I've just shared with you sets the stage for the insights and wisdom that Carrie offers in this episode. At face value, it's a gripping tale of human suffering, perseverance, and the will to live. But on a deeper level, it's a master class in how to find freedom on the other side of letting go.     Meet Carrie Chown Today, Carrie is a Life, Health, and Wellness Coach and Reiki Master Practitioner. She has a private practice in Woodland, CA where she uses traditional coaching, energy work, and unique life coaching experiences to help her clients move beyond the things that hold them back and create lives full of passion, purpose, and wellbeing.   Some Episode Highlights Carrie shares what she had to let go of in each of the three monumental surrenders she's experienced in her life–addiction, terminal illness, and infertility–and what freedom she found on the other side of letting go.  How to know when to keep fighting and when to surrender.  Carrie's take on the purpose of suffering.  The necessity of detaching from the outcome.  How letting go makes it possible to see other options.  The difference between suffering that heals and transforms and suffering that destroys.  Carrie's take on her leap of faith–why, how, and how it turned out.    What Do You Need to Let Go Of? Letting go is not a popular idea in our hard-driving Western culture. But one has only to consider how physically and mentally unhealthy our culture is--unprecedentedly so, in fact--to realize that there's much about how we live today that needs to change.  So perhaps letting go is something all of us need to practice more. Letting go of our demand that life be a certain way and accepting what actually IS, instead. Letting go of our demand that our partner meet all of our needs and assuming full responsibility for own wellbeing, instead. Letting go of our tireless efforts to prevent future catastrophes and accepting that much of the future is completely outside of our control. Letting go of our need for our kids to fit our mold and nurturing their unique qualities, instead.  Examine your own heart and observe your own life to discern where a surrender might be calling to you. Look especially closely at those areas in your life where you consistently experience a sense of stuckness and frustration, a pushing-back from life as it resists your repeated attempts to create a different reality. What freedom awaits you on the other side of letting go?    Let Me Know! What stuck with YOU from this episode? Message me on Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn @AndrewPettyCoach, or email me at andrew@digdeepwinbig.com. I'm taking a creative break in July to have adventures with my family and give my heart and mind an opportunity to reset and be refreshed. The show will return in August with two episodes that I'm really looking forward to. From her own heartrending experiences with loss and caregiving, Michelle Mathai will teach us how to have the hard conversations with our loved ones about end-of-life issues NOW--before end-of-life issues become a reality. And terminal brain cancer warrior, Pam Blackburn, will offer her final word from the sacred space she now inhabits between life and death. If these sound like hard episodes to look forward to, much less listen to, then lean into the discomfort and tune in anyway. They might just be the episodes that you especially needed to hear.  I'm so glad you tuned in today, and don't forget to follow this show.
