Sharon Daphna is a writer, researcher, and creator of The Chembow, where she documents more than a decade of work with orgone energy, orgonite, atmospheric conditions, electromagnetic frequencies, and the ideas of Wilhelm Reich. Since 2014, Sharon has made and distributed orgonite throughout nine western states, experimenting with what happens when these devices are introduced into environments saturated with artificial frequencies.In this conversation, we explore what might be called the invisible terrain: the energetic environment that surrounds us but rarely enters into conventional conversations about health. The evidentiary architecture connecting Rex Heuermann to the murders of Maureen Brainard-Barnes and Melissa Barthelemy rests on two pillars: digital communications data and DNA. This look back examines how prosecutors constructed those connections and what they reveal about the methodology investigators spent more than a decade trying to identify.In Maureen's case, prosecutors alleged Heuermann used prepaid phones to make contact, that cell-tower records placed those phones in Massapequa Park — his home area — and that he accessed her voicemail after her disappearance. DNA recovered from a leather belt used to bind her remains matched the profile of Heuermann's wife. Maureen, twenty-five, a mother of two, had traveled from Connecticut to Manhattan seeking income she could not find elsewhere. She was the first of the Gilgo Four to disappear, in July 2007.In Melissa's case, the phone trail is even more granular. A prepaid phone she had connected with traveled the route between Massapequa Park and Midtown Manhattan on the day she vanished — matching the commute between Heuermann's home and office. Her own phone traveled the reverse route hours later. Five weeks of subsequent calls to her fifteen-year-old sister — always under three minutes, always from high-traffic Manhattan locations — demonstrated a pattern prosecutors characterized as deliberate psychological targeting. Heuermann pleaded guilty to both murders, confirming strangulation as the cause of death. The placement of cell towers has always been the purview of local officials, but a new bill in Washington gives that power to the FCC. A cell tower might just pop up in your neighborhood without hearings or any kind of opportunity for local pushback or comment. This is the likely result of new proposed FCC rules that preempt all state and local authority over the siting, permitting and regulation of cell towers and antennas.  To be clear: No objections will be possible regarding the location, size, height, number of antennas, no need to prove there is a need for the antennas, no environmental reviews, no respect for aesthetic impacts, or historic districts, or scenic byways, etc. Towers and antennas will just appear outside one's home, or one's children's schools, without notice, and there will be nothing one can do about it. The proposed rules even say local governments will not be allowed to hire outside experts to measure emissions from the antennas. Telecommunications Forum CEO Paul Brislen spoke to Lisa Owen.

 Protesters at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Portland may have had their identifiable information from their cellphones surveilled, new reporting from Straight Arrow News found. An analysis done by the news organization found evidence that suggests a cell-site simulator was used in the area. These devices mimic cell towers and are able to capture a phone's unique SIM card number known as an International Mobile Subscriber Identity. Mikael Thalen is a tech reporter for Straight Arrow News and used a research tool known as Marlin to report this story. He joins us to share more.  

A spate of arson attacks on cell towers in Wanaka and the wider Otago region has left people angry and worried about communication outages. Katie Todd reports from Wanaka.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement paid eight hundred twenty five thousand dollars earlier this year to a company that manufactures vehicles equipped with various technologies for law enforcement, including fake cellphone towers known as “cell-site simulators,” which can be used to spy on nearby phones.   Also, hackers working for the North Korean government have stolen more than $2 billion in crypto so far this year. That's according to blockchain analysis firm Elliptic.  On Tuesday, Elliptic published a blog post with this new estimate, which the company says is the “largest annual total on record, with three months still to go,” and is based on more than thirty hacks this year.
