Marcus, who is a retired Navy SEAL, shares his experience returning home from the military and his personal battle with depression. He discussed what eventually led him to seek psychedelic treatment and begin his emotional healing. Amber recalls how she felt witnessing her husband struggle with the challenges of returning to civilian life. Her grandfather was Ralph Capone, listed in 1930 as Public Enemy #3 by the Chicago Crime Commission. That makes her the grandniece of Public Enemy #1: Al Capone. As a child, she didn't know he was a notorious gangster ... he was just her Uncle Al. She sat on his knee and traded "knock-knock" jokes with him. He taught her how to swim, ride a bike, and play the mandolin. But after he died on her seventh birthday she began paying the price of being a Capone. From age 7 to 13 her classmates were not allowed to play with her. Just before her 11th birthday her father committed suicide due to the burden of the Capone name. At age 18 she was fired from her first full-time job because of her name. These circumstances made Deirdre determined to find out more about her family history and to write this book. Over the course of many years she had countless conversations with her grandfather Ralph, as well as Al's other brothers and only sister, Al's wife, and his only child, Sonny. Some were more open than others, and each made her promise to not publish anything until all of them were dead and buried. Deirdre is the last member of Al's family born with the name Capone. She is literally …the last of the Capones. Finally, after all these years she is able to share things about Al Capone and his family that none of his many biographers ever knew. In today's discussion, performance mindset coach, Sean Hansen, discusses the gripping topic of veteran suicide and psychedelic-assisted therapy with the co-founders of Veterans Exploring Treatment Solutions (VETS), a 501(c)(3) dedicated to ending the veteran suicide epidemic.Marcus and Amber Capone have a 20+ year history of never giving up on one another. After meeting at Southern Illinois University in 1997 and marrying three years later, the young couple moved to Coronado, CA where Marcus began training to become a U.S. Navy SEAL, graduating with BUD/S class 236 just one month after the attacks of 9/11.Like many military families, the Capones adapted to the high operational tempo of combat deployments and wartime training cycles, sometimes keeping Marcus away from home for up to 300 days per year.  After 13 years and 7 tours, it was the transition away from the SEAL teams that would prove to be the greatest challenge yet.After years of escalating hardships, misdiagnoses, and failed avenues of healing, Amber was able to arrange for Marcus to leave the U.S. in 2017 to undergo a plant medicine experience; an intervention the couple attributes to saving his life as well as their family. Marcus immediately felt a deep conviction to pay this healing forward to his former teammates, which subsequently launched a successful grassroots effort that culminated in the official formation of VETS in 2019.As a 501(c)(3) organization, VETS provides resources, research, and advocacy for U.S. veterans seeking healing through psychedelic-assisted therapy alternatives. To date, VETS has raised funding for over 400 Special Operations veterans to receive this critical lifeline. Take the Windy City of Chicago circa the 1820s when a self-proclaimed Brooklyn street politician named Al Capone revolutionized the crime world with his hustling antics. Nearly 70 years later, the Bronx is introduced to Derrick Lee, another hustler who trades in his ruggish-thuggish ways to become a successful entrepreneur and later metamorphosize the world of comedy as Capone, the Gangster of Comedy. While both Capones lives slightly parallel each other, our beloved comedian's life is not tragic, but inspirational. Unlike Chi-town's original crime lord, Capone, the comedian didn't ignore the warning signs that he needed to cease the hustle. His first and last sign came in 1991 after receiving a nine-month sentence. It was then that the soon-to-be notorious funnyman knew the street life wasn't his calling. “Jail was a blessing for me,” recalls the 28-year old comedian of his spiraling street career. “At the rate I was going I'd either be spending a whole lot of time there or end up dead.” With a second chance, Capone left the street life and became a home attendant for the mentally challenged. “It may seem a little far fetched that I chose a Samaritan job, but I've always been interested in helping people, especially those who can't do for themselves.” Although his salary was a far cry from his previous income, he valued his freedom enough to stay on a legitimate path and supplemented his wages by moonlighting as a barber on the weekends. It was at his second job, that he began to hone his comedic skills by engaging in intense snap sessions with co-workers. “I was always crackin' jokes on the customers or my co-workers so the barber shop served as a sort of comedy haven for me.” It wasn't until 1992, when a promoter friend of Capone's challenged him to take his innate talent off the streets and to the stage that his comedy career was launched. “My first show was at Columbia University,” says the eight year comedic veteran of his meager beginnings and who credits his late mother for his comedic sense. “I won the amateur contest and I was invited to perform with the heavy hitters.” Performing with professionals such as Tracey Morgan (Saturday Night Live), Talent (Wyclef Jean's 1998 The Carnival), Michael Epps (Next Friday) opened up many doors for the boisterous budding comedian. He immediately ditched his day job after he'd saved his earnings to open his first barber shop six years ago. “It was always one of my dreams to have my own barber shop and work for myself.”

Après ses études en théologies, Denis se dirige à Shawinigan pour commencer sa « vie de prêtre ». Les guillemets sont importants quant à cette partie de l'histoire. Quand on pense à « un homme d'Église », on pense aux différents rites religieux et différents sacrements, mais pas dans le cas de Denis. Ce ne sont pas ces traditions d'église qui lui ont ouvert la voie, mais plutôt les gens qu'il a côtoyés.

Uncle Al Capone - Her grandfather was Ralph Capone, listed in 1930 as Public Enemy #3 by the Chicago Crime Commission. That makes her the grandniece of Public Enemy #1: Al Capone. As a child, she didn't know he was a notorious gangster ... he was just her Uncle Al. She sat on his knee and traded "knock-knock" jokes with him. He taught her how to swim, ride a bike, and play the mandolin. But after he died on her seventh birthday she began paying the price of being a Capone. From age 7 to 13 her classmates were not allowed to play with her. Just before her 11th birthday her father committed suicide due to the burden of the Capone name. At age 18 she was fired from her first full-time job because of her name. These circumstances made Deirdre determined to find out more about her family history and to write this book. Over the course of many years she had countless conversations with her grandfather Ralph, as well as Al's other brothers and only sister, Al's wife, and his only child, Sonny. Some were more open than others, and each made her promise to not publish anything until all of them were dead and buried. Deirdre is the last member of Al's family born with the name Capone. She is literally ...the last of the Capones. Finally, after all these years she is able to share things about Al Capone and his family that none of his many biographers ever knew.
