Boomer Living Tv - Podcast For Baby Boomers, Their Families & Professionals In Senior Living
In this podcast episode, we delve into the complex topic of why a parent may refuse medical or home care. We understand that dealing with elderly care resistance can be an emotional and challenging task for caregivers, but understanding the root causes of a parent's refusal of care is crucial in finding ways to support their well-being and maintain their autonomy and dignity. We will explore some of the common reasons for aging parent refusal of care, such as dementia and medical refusal, and provide strategies for supporting a stubborn elderly parent and dealing with resistant elderly parents. We'll also cover important topics such as medical assistance refusal in aging adults, home care refusal, and coping with a resistant elderly parent. Join us as we dive into understanding and supporting aging parents who refuse care. This podcast episode:- Aims to help caregivers understand the various reasons why a parent may refuse medical or home care. It highlights that a parent's refusal of care can have many root causes, such as a lack of understanding, fear of the unknown, or a desire to maintain independence.- Emphasizes the importance of taking the time to understand the cause behind such a decision before trying to force them into care they may not understand or feel comfortable with.- Mentions that past experiences can have a profound effect on a parent's decision-making, particularly when it comes to healthcare.- Highlights that cognitive decline can make it hard for aging adults to understand and accept medical care.- Mentions that people's beliefs can strongly influence their refusal of care. Religious beliefs, belief in alternative medicine, and cultural beliefs can cause someone to refuse certain medical treatments or procedures. It's important for caregivers to be aware of this and show an understanding of what the patient's beliefs are and how they influence their healthcare decisions. Caregivers should be respectful of patients' beliefs and preferences and make sure their treatment plan aligns with them as much as possible.
The Caregiver Space grew out of a personal need to connect with other caregivers and be part of a community where experiences and feelings could be shared and support could always be gotten. Understanding there are so many causes that make someone a caregiver made this site evolve into a place where a caregiver for any reason, could come and have a place to air their feelings – keeping them in is both exhausting and counter- productive. There are many services available to caregivers of patient with specific needs, but our concern is exclusively to comfort and help the caregiver.

When Cori figured out that she'd get spending money in high school for taking college classes, she jumped right in. She eventually earned four associates degrees, before later earning a bachelors and a masters. And that learning has served her well. Working in a small nonprofit often means being a one-woman show. Having those skills to draw on means she's got it covered. Not many of us end up in the same field where we started our paths. We still can use our early experiences to problem solve later on. After finding out that she had a larger Facebook reach than Buzzfeed Canada Cori gave herself permission to let up a bit. Having ambitions and pursuing them will get you far, at the same time, we need to keep an eye on what all we're talking on, so we don't burn out. By all means, go after what you want, and at the same time, make sure to prioritize your needs too. Cori put a photo up on the signup page for The Caregiver Space. I want you to hear her tell it, but it's made all the difference in keeping troublemakers out. Sometimes the simplest things we can do make the biggest impact. Are there areas in your business that you've been overthinking? Is there anything you can simplify? For complete show notes and links visit compasspod.com/019

Gary Chapman has long been one of the most respected singer-songwriters in Nashville. For nearly four decades, Chapman has seamlessly blurred the musical lines of contemporary Christian, pop, country and southern gospel, racking up an impressive list of awards including seven Dove Awards, five GRAMMY nominations and writing credits for legendary artists such as Kenny Rogers, Alabama and Wynonna. Chapman is also widely remembered as the host of TNN’s popular “Prime Time Country” television series and the “Sam’s Place” concert series and radio show at the Ryman Auditorium. Gary and wife Cassie adopted a baby daughter, Eva Rose in 2013 and remain very close to his son Matt and daughters Sarah and Millie, who’ve since spread their wings for school and successful careers respectively. “Family is everything to us”. Once a week, Chapman sings live from his living room and tells the stories behind a different classic hymn. “These timeless songs were the only thing that gave my father peace in his final days. When he was struggling, I would just take out my guitar and play the songs that I had learned as a child for him at his bedside. Singing those hymns I grew up with helped me remember what music is really for.” After a long struggle with Parkinson’s and Cancer, Gary’s father went to be with the Lord in peace like a preacher should, Easter morning at sunrise. “A Hymn a Week” has grown into a global, loving community. https://www.facebook.com/ahymnaweek/ Youtube Video Link:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCocxjr6WHxJn0k-qFHGgUNw

LAST DANCE AT THE SAVOY is both a personal story about Scott's husband, Geoff Miller, the founding editor of Los Angeles magazine, who lived life fully despite having a terminal illness, and a sharing of her insights on dealing with the day-to-day issues of caring for someone with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). *Includes a resource guide. *A percentage of royalties are donated to CurePSP

In fact, there is no approved treatment for the psychosis (although one is under review by the FDA right now). In lieu of an approved treatment, patients might be prescribed an atypical antipsychotic, but these aren't proven to work well and they have black box warnings. So as a result, loved ones work very hard to manage their loved ones visions and false beliefs. Can you imagine being married for 50 years and then having your wife accuse you of adultery or theft? Those kind of delusions are very stressful for the caregiver. Psychosis leads to more nursing home placement and, as a result, increased morbidity and mortality. Our message is that we want people to tell their doctor about the onset of Parkinson's psychosis. Studies tell us that less than 20% of patients and caregivers ever report symptoms. Maybe that is because there is a stigma against psychosis or it may be that these kind of symptoms are such that people do not realize they are related to the Parkinson's disease, itself.

Join Dave Nassaney, The Caregiver's Caregiver, and his guest, Adrienne Gruberg, who refers to herself as "one of the millions of baby-boomers now in the middle of the caregiving crisis." She was born in New York City in 1948, and graduated from Boston University School of Fine Arts. Adrienne spent time in Liberia, West Africa, helping to set up a study for the New York Blood Center to discover the serum for Hepatitis B. She has worked at NBC Network in the business affairs department of the programming division, and later founded Adrienne Youngstein & Associates - an award winning graphic design, marketing, advertising and branding company in New York City. With the encouragement and coaching of her future husband, Steve Gruberg, she became a contestant on the popular TV game show "$20,000 Pyramid" and won the Grand Prize. Adrienne became a constant caregiver to both her husband, diagnosed with lung cancer in 2005, and his mother, who at the age of ninety in 2007, was diagnosed with lymphoma and went to live with her son and daughter-in-law in New York City. As a result of this crisis, she is the proud Founder and President of The Caregiver Space. According to Adrienne, "This site grew out of a personal need to connect with other caregivers and be part of a community where experiences and feelings could be shared and support could always be gotten. Understanding there are so many causes that make someone a caregiver made this site evolve into a place where a caregiver for any reason, could come and have a place to air their feelings – keeping them in is both exhausting and counter- productive. There are many services available to caregivers of patients with specific needs, but our concern is exclusively to comfort and help the caregiver."
