Steffen Hou - Moms Of the Missing - Living the NightmareJul 13, 2023Ed is joined in this archive show by Steffen Hou, who has spent many years studying killers, particularly those who kill children. This has resulted in his book Moms of the Missing, a sort of how to parent and look after your children, with knowledge gained from the most tragic circumstances. In the book, Mr Hou talks to those the children left behind, scarred people, ever-searching parents, guardians and family members, all with one thing in common; they hold out hope - no matter how slim and unlikely - that they will see their child again."Oh my God, we found a dead body." The man's voice, calling from a mountain trail in Cleveland National Forest, was frantic. "Please hurry. I'm so scared. It's a little kid." When police arrived, they were met by a horrific sight. The girl was naked and had been positioned in such a way that detectives believed the murderer had seen his kill as some kind of a trophy. As if he were showing off his "work". The little kid was Samantha Runnion, a five-year-old girl who had been abducted while playing in her parents' garden the day before.Samantha is just one of too many American kids who disappear. Almost half a million children are reported missing every year. And all across America parents are searching for their missing children or if the worst case scenario has come to pass the person who killed them.Moms of the Missing investigates ten abduction cases. In this episode Ryan and I sit down in Cleveland National Forest and chat some of our favorite pieces of gear as well as some gear that just didn't work out for our style of camping. We have a few unexpected but welcomed visitors from a few campsites down (Shoutout Bob and Tim) who crash the episode but later end up coming by for some drinks and a hotdog.

rWotD Episode 2398: San Bernardino Forest Reserve Welcome to random Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of a random Wikipedia page every day.The random article for Monday, 27 November 2023 is San Bernardino Forest Reserve. The San Bernardino Forest Reserve was established by the General Land Office in California on February 25, 1893 with 737,280 acres (2,983.7 km2) in the San Bernardino Mountains. After the transfer of federal forests to the U. S. Forest Service in 1905, it became a National Forest on March 4, 1907. On July 1, 1908 the entire forest was combined with San Gabriel National Forest and Santa Barbara National Forest to create Angeles National Forest, and the name was discontinued. On September 30, 1925 San Bernardino National Forest was re-established from parts of Angeles and Cleveland National Forest. The reserve was the fourth one established in the state and was created on the same day as the Trabuco Canyon Reserve. And, like the other reserves, the San Bernardino Reserve's purpose was the protection of watersheds and water resources. It was bordered by the San Gabriel Reserve on the east at Cajon Pass and extended over all of the San Bernardino Mountains to the Mojave Desert. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:00 UTC on Monday, 27 November 2023.For the full current version of the article, see San Bernardino Forest Reserve on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Russell Standard.

On June 23, 1985, a body was discovered off of Sunrise Highway 30 in Mt. Laguna, California, along the eastern edge of the Cleveland National Forest in San Diego County. The female victim was found nude, beaten and strangled. How she ended up discarded on the side of the road is a mystery, but the story leading up to her untimely death is one that was heavily entangled in police corruption. #Becausegearhead - it's the first-ever Garage Hour. Combine big-AM talk radio w/ a first-time show host who's just found out how to talk to more people about cars, trucks, beers and guns, and that's this. From facts on the disaster caused by Obama's auto bailout (local impact, attacks on Republican dealership owners, Ford's debt, and why GM and Chrysler ain't cool anymore) to a little ditty about why watermelon environmentalism won't mix with real improvement, and you can see a lot of Justin Fort's baby monster here. ..And like always, there's more: Goodyear MT/R Kevlars, Saleen's bankruptsy, Scarecrow's diet, Econolube 163, and wherever the Hell is Hank Watson. Welcome back to La Cresta Life. We've been to the other side of Tenaja where you can see the ocean Today, we're going back to Tenaja the horsey side. Welcome to La Cresta life. So we're here on the horsey side, as opposed to the ocean side that we saw the other day. Then were going to take a little ride and check out the beautiful horses and the beautiful equestrian landscape. Tenaja is known for its kind of wide-open ranches, especially right here in the Tenaja valley. We're going to go that way toward the Cleveland National Forest. There's a trailhead there that you can hike and there's actually a waterfall. It's pretty famous it's called Tenaja Falls. We're not going to go there today, but it is a beautiful place to hike and in this wide-open valley. You're really having a good time up here. The hills above we have been there before, that is La Cresta highlands. We have the Cleveland National Forest Trail system. That's where we are right now will find it when we go to other trailheads Riverside Parks. So we've got kind of The Best of Both Worlds going on at Cleveland forest and our County Park. Meadow Oaks on the Santa Rosa Plateau Welcome back to La Cresta Life. Today, we're in Meadow Oaks. Welcome to La Cresta life. So technically we are in Tenaja. Tenaja is not an HOA, it's a community service district. So, there's a little pocket here called Meadow Oaks they have their own gate, it's guarded with a real life person and it's a little loop, a small community that you can see the map on my website, but we're going to take a little cruise around here today and let you see Meadow Oaks. So I did say a little more manicured, right? Definitely a little more formal, a little more traditional. It's all 5-acre minimums, just like the rest of the plateau. Remember we have 5 HOAs and one community service district. This one is an HOA with the minimum 5 acres and the common thread here is that they tend to have a lot of ponds. Not sure why, but in Meadow Oaks, people have their own private ponds. Well, that's it for Meadow Oaks. We've got a little fun we got some ponds, we got some friends back here. Yes, they have horses in Meadow Oaks, and here they come to say hello. Anyway, thanks so much for being with us. We'll see you next time on La Cresta Life.
Hey y'all. Welcome back to La Cresta life. This is the place you're going to learn all about La Cresta on the Santa Rosa Plateau. Stay tuned and we'll tell you all about it. So, La Cresta and the communities of the Santa Rosa Plateau. There are 5 HOAs and 1 Community Service District. Every single parcel up here is at least 5 Acres. So we all have space we all have open Skies we act as if we're all one big community. We have a ton of social activities. We love animals. So there's a lot of horses, clearly. There's a lot of horse ranches and a lot of other animals, but we also have a view properties and luxury property. So there's really a beautiful mix of super fancy properties and then kind of ranch-y properties and everything in between, but the beauty of it is we all come and go and appreciate each other because we're all living this kind of La Cresta life together and no one's afraid to get to prissy and get their hands dirty. So we have a lot of fun. We work hard we play hard and we're all pretty consistent about loving life on the Santa Rosa plateau. So while we're just a few minutes from town right down the street is town and it's only 15-20 minutes away. Its got a major grocery store associate grocery stores in pretty good restaurants and a freeway, which gets you pretty much everywhere between LA San Diego Orange County Palm Springs and Big Bear, you're only an hour and under an hour and a half to all of those places and only 45 minutes to Ontario Airport, which is a pretty great airport. So we are right in the hub or tucked in the mountains where Riverside County meet Orange County and where the secret little pocket and we do have a lot of fun. This is what we do on weekends. We have all of the amenities of town. We have stores restaurants really great hospitals. By the way that we also have the Cleveland National Forest on one side or buffered by 220000 Acres of Camp Pendleton on another side 9,000 Acres of Ecological Reserve on the other side. So we're basically a lollipop the street that comes up off the freeway takes you up the mountain and then it expands into the circle at branches. We are a Ranch Community at the top of this little bubble and we're immune from traffic street lights all the things that make you crazy during the day we came out at to our homes and we just breathe, so you have all of this natural wonder with all of the conveniences of town 5-acre minimum slice of animals, and it's super cool to come on down. I'll show you properties anywhere you want up here anytime. Give me a call.
I'm coming to you today from the heart of La Cresta on the Santa Rosa Plateau… Otherwise known to me as Paradise. La Cresta Life is the place where you will learn all about life here. In this episode, I'll be introducing you to this Southern California equestrian community, offering some basic logistics and some really cool stories. You will notice that I will use a few interchangeable titles for this area… La Cresta, The Plateau, the Hill. The formal reference is The Santa Rosa Plateau. However, many people refer to all of it as just La Cresta. Indeed, La Cresta is the largest of the associations up here, but also included are La Cresta Highlands, Santa Rosa West, Meadow Oaks, The Trails, and Tenaja. The whole area is tucked into the mountains between South Orange County and the Temecula Valley Wine Country. We are in unincorporated Riverside County and have the postal address of Murrieta, CA. All parcels are at least 5 acres, and there is no commercial zoning. Because we are bordered by the Cleveland National Forest, Camp Pendleton, and 8000 acres of Ecological Reserve, this is a very private and rural estate community. We experience a real country vibe, VERY little traffic, and amazing star gazing, which we protect by not having street lights. In a nutshell, this is a magical pocket of ranches and estates, in the hills above Murrieta, with a fantastic lifestyle and the conveniences of the city, just down the hill. OK, now that we got all that out of the way, let's talk about the really cool stuff…the People on the Plateau. This current COVID situation has really shown a light on the beautiful people here. While if you are going to be stuck at home, a ranch on the Hill is a pretty good consolation prize. That being said, we still need stuff. Enter the creative phase of the program… Here's to living in Paradise! See you next time!

https://tantrapunk.com/natural-family-planning-and-the-nature-of-birth-with-erin-rivera-merriman-tpp133/ In this episode I’m joined again by one of the highest of high priestesses in my life and in the world, Shakta tantrika medicine woman oracle Erin Rivera Merriman. She graciously offers profound green witchy wisdom and insight into to the poorly understood complexities of natural family planning and the nature of birth. Drawing from a multidimensional array of information sources, she helps us to navigate the mystery school that is the sacred womb and yoni temple. We also discuss the often misunderstood iconography of Goddess Kali, and Erin offers a very well ordered interpretation of the fierce, loving, compassionate, and untamed wildness that is symbolized in her more gruesome depictions. A tragic and disturbing incident was also mentioned in the conversation, our prayers go out to the victim of baby monitor hacking. Special Announcement! Rising Women Leaders is now on Patreon. Pledging $1, $3, $5, $25 per episode allows us to continue creating new content and fully devote ourselves to the mission of women rising in their unique brilliance. Become a Patron Today. One of the things I loved most about sitting down to talk with Erin was when we touched on the topic of comparing ourselves to other women. I think one of the deepest wounds that can really be a challenge when stepping into true sisterhood and community is when we get stuck comparing ourselves to other people. It brings us right into the question of wondering, is there really enough for everyone? How can we be so similar to each other, carry a similar mission and still be special and unique? These are just some of the questions we explored in this week's episode. We also discussed our shared journeys of navigating chronic pain and how that relates to being an empath, Erin's definitions of a "starseed" and "priestess" and which plant spirits will guide you into a deeper embodied experience of abundance. "Are people healed? Are people hearing the cosmic song? Are people vibrant and thriving in their bodies? Are people moving joyfully, dancing through their day to the grocery store? No! The job is not done and we need more people on the team!" The universe would not give so many people the same mission unless it was a mission that was so big it couldn't be done by just one person... Whether you're flexing your retro terror or just want to get a glimpse of the Garage Hour's roots, this is a great episode to dive in to the what we call old school. Grizzly Chris and host Justin Fort spend an entire episode trying to relate a few Dude Food recipes (Justin's boneless chicken w/ a top-secret marinade and Chris's watermelon margaritas), but the goons detour in classic Garage Hour fashion, hitting everything from Dazed & Confused (the movie) to Ahhhnold impresisons, Rob Zombie and nailgun lawsuits, the heat in San Diego (112?) and the Unabomber in a ten-by-ten shack. It's not all wanderlust, however, because you can't keep a good gearhead down: there's also Grand Cherokee trail rollovers, off-roading in Colorado and the Cleveland National Forest in SoCal, 4Runner parts and how long they don't last, Priuses and how they still can't off-road, Unimogs, and some freaky Unimog-4Runner mutant that roams Colorado doing its best impression of a sasquatch (because everyone's heard of it and no one's seen it). Why not? It's the Garage Hour. Have some.
In this episode I take a 15 mile solo hike along the Dripping Springs Trail in the Cleveland National Forest just a few miles east of Temecula California.
